[arr] [Semi-ARR] Simply Sonu Concert in Houston this past Saturday

I got free tickets for Sonu Nigam's concert this past Saturday and
thought the arrahmanfans group might be interested in some ARR related
news from the concert.

The concert started with a cover version of Roobaroo from Rang De
Basanti. The cover was performed by the accompanying musicians and not
by Sonu. This version was not bad but was let down by the lead vocalist.

Sonu Nigam performed two of Rahman's compositions - Saathiya from
Saathiya and Satrangi Re. Both the performances were impeccable
singing wise. Before starting Satrangi Re, Sonu mentioned that in
spite of singing a huge number of songs in career, that this song
remains a favourite. Once the song was completed, Sonu Nigam received
a standing ovation from a few and chants of Sonu, Sonu from the crowd.

The songs were lip synced, just used like a background, but it seemed to
blended well with the screenplay and the story. So I think it clearly proved
that the people are changing and they are looking forward to more sophistic
and non cliché stuff.

*Was there a growing division, do you think, between films, between Indian
films that are favoured by rural audiences and urban audiences?*
I think the line is becoming thinner and thinner, really, because, unlike a
couple of decades ago where people didn't know anything about the happening
outside. Now people know what it is that Hollywood and Chinese films are
made of. This influences people and so filmmakers are compelled to do stuff
which is world class.

I can see that the past six years a massive change has happened and there
are extraordinary filmmakers who are evolving.

*What do you think are the qualities of a truly great composer?*
One needs to transcend somebody by even if it is just one instrument theme.
And now the challenges of the composers are much more as its not just about
composing a great theme. One needs to know recording, production and how to
intertwine music with the movie.

And with Indian films it is an even greater challenge, because we need to be
like a Michael Jackson or John Williams, Hans Summer and an Indian folk
composer and put all of them together. So they expect finesse and they
expect versatility.

trustee / advisor  or whatever in this effort to bring education to the
poor. Both ARR and Former President's vision in this aspect is very close.
They should join hands to bring this to the poor.

school.

found on net. There are many other fantastic BGMs in the movie, so I 
humbly request you all not to post mp3s of the BGM.

However, the most famous BGMs namely the rap and the athiradee reprise 
have been making rounds on the net, so here are the links to listen to 
them. Only the 2 tracks have been uploaded, so please buy the CD when 
it is publicly available.

anything to do, trying to get his 15 min fame riding on the popularity of our 
boss.

He is showing how much he is hurt by ARR and all other great musicians sings 
the National Anthem beyond his imaginary stipulated time.

One frustrated soul he is..

One word was put across by my friend to take an observation. He said
these days the songs which ARR sings is rich in guitar & strings
unlike his earlier dominated by percussion. 
I had felt this long ago as ARR is working for world music he is
reserving some of his best strings delivery in his own songs (I am not
blaming). He just has done it very right. Whenever I listen to New
york nagaram the best scene I could imagine is ARR with a guitar on a
park bench and just freaking the chords and a sea in front of him with
a sunset on the backdrop. Hope somebody does an album with it.
