[arr] Mesmerized by MISSION USTAD

ARR sir's first foray into the small screen world all
because of a cause. He was looking as gracious as ever
with that heavenly smile in his face.

But I still do not understand what exactly is the role
of Lara Dutt in the judges panel. She is a real
mismatch amongst these 2 geniuses, although she is a
UN representative.

But anyways I think this will be the greatest reality
show of Indian television coz its studded with amazing
artists who would churn out their own comps and
OBVIOUSLY LAST BUT NOT THE LEAST THE LEGEND WOULD
JUDGE THE PROCEEDINGS.

By d way did u guys notice that ARR Sir was completely
awestruck while listening to the "MAULA MERE" song.

ARR pioneered the use of rap in indian languages, starting with Pettai Rap in 
Kadhalan.. Even before Blaaze, there were rap bits in ARR several songs (though 
not officially called Rap)..

I don't think he should stop using rap but improvise it further..

Mohit Chauhan of Silk Route is now trekking terrains like film music
(Jab We Met) and Mission Ustaad, a music show with A.R.Rahman besides an
album of APJ Abdul Kalam's poems
He is best known as the lead vocalist of Silk Route. But now Mohit
Chauhan has changed tracks to a hit song in Jab We Met and his being a
part of the music show Mission Ustaad on the new channel 9x. The music
is by A.R.Rahman.
About the show, he says, "It's for a noble cause connected with
the UN Millennium Campaign with special relevance to India. I will be
singing original songs on it."
And how does he feel about his hit film song?"Pritam called for Tum
se hi in Jab We Met and though I have sung before in films, like in Rang
De Basanti, Road and Main Meri Patni Aur Woh, this song has now made me
a known entity, for which I have to thank him," says Mohit
Mohit, like every singer in the country, wants to be a part of Hindi
film playback. For someone with a `pop' background, he has a
good roster of film assignments - Shyam Benegal's Mahaadev with
Shantanu Moitra, Popcorn Entertainment's EMI starring Sanjay Dutt
under a new music director, Rakeysh Mehra's Dilli 6 with A.R.Rahman
and another interesting film with new music makers Rajendra-Shiv.
And what happens to Silk Route, which gave the hit album Boondein with
the chartbusting track Dooba dooba? Mohit admits that the group has
disbanded and that the members are all following their individual
careers.
The singer-lyricist-composer admits that he is an untrained musician but
says that he was "singing all the time" since childhood. "My
influences were varied - from Kishore Kumar, R.D.Burman and
Laxmikant-Pyarelal to A.R.Rahman, Paul Simon and classical music. And
yes, folk," stresses Mohit. "Folk music is very important."

creative artistes who pay little importance to education, you would be
wrong - though hailing from Nahan, a small-town next to Solan in

and compose six songs and poems of none other than our ex-President APJ

Only a few days back it was reported
that Kailash asked the `Mozart
of Madras,' A.R. Rahman to croon
for him. Although nothing was confirmed
from Rahman on this, sources say that
two other composers are also in the
fray trying to rope him in to sing for
them. It is not uncommon for composers
to sing for others.   [A R

In fact, in Kollywood, veteran composers like M.S.
Viswanathan and Shankar (Shankar-Ganesh) have sung
for other composers.

Of late, such trends haven't been witnessed
in the film industry. The reasons attributed, by
the insiders, include ego clashes that might arise
and erosion of fan base.
But composers themselves have never opined on
those lines. News is that `Isai Gnani'
Ilayaraja had recently offered to sing for other
composers. Rahman is now becoming hot property
as a singer in Bollywood after his hit numbers
in Guru, Swades and Dil Se. Himmesh Reshammiya,
a self-confessed fan of Rahman, had announced
that if ever wanted to sing for another composer
it would be only be for Rahman. This composer/singer,
known for his nasal twang, has asked Rahman to
sing for him and close on his heels is Adnan Sami
who has also made a similar request. Rahman when
questioned on this said, "It's extremely
kind of them to think of me, but I can't
just sing like that. When I render a track, I
cut myself off from other things. Even for a concert,
a couple of days before it I don't pursue
my other music stuff, but just concentrate on
the singing." He also added that he hadn't
turned down their request but as he is working
on an album, he can consider these offers only
after completing it. Is he trying to be politically
correct or is he just politely turning down these
offers?

i met yasser again in dubai and i got my copy on friday.really fanatastic 
effort by yasser.
the calendar is very very beautiful,specially i like the arr's view mentioned 
in every page.
we left only after taking dinner together..
we have a plan of UAE fans meet also,on arr's birthday
any other silent members in our group from UAE please post ur opinions and 
views.

because of two other external factors. They are lack of official recognition
for background scores and lack of good film critics in India. Till date
there is no category commenced in National Film Awards for best background
score.

I dont think this is entirely true. National award is given for best music
and not just songs. Jhonson got back to back national awards for his scores
in Ponthan Mada and Sukrutham. For Sukrutham the song composer Bombay Ravi
also won the national award.
