[arr] Promo shun!...
Promo shun! Firoz Nadiadwala doesn't want promos of Jodhaa Akbar attached to his film, Welcome. Ashutosh Gowariker is furious A still from Jodhaa Akbar Ashutosh Gowariker has cut a new set of promos for his forthcoming film, Jodhaa Akbar. Yet, it seems to be a long way away from making it to the theatres. If sources are to be believed, Gowariker is livid with Feroz Nadiadwala, producer of Welcome, for refusing to attach these promos of Jodhaa Akbar to his film Welcome, which is releasing on December 21. UTV Motion Pictures, who are the official producers of Jodhaa Akbar, are distributing Welcome along with Studio 18, and contractually the production house can attach any promos they desire. However, Nadiadwala has prevented UTV Motion Pictures from putting the Jodhaa Akbar promos for reasons best known to him. A source close to Gowariker says, As per contract clauses, the distributor UTV and sub-distributor Studio 18 can join any film promos they want with the main copy of Welcome. But Nadiadwala had a problem particularly with the Jodhaa Akbar promos. Apparently the reason is that Nadiadwala fears that Welcome will not look good compared to Gowariker's much more lavish Jodhaa The distributors are putting up with Nadiadwala's demands as they fear that any dispute will only delay the release of Welcome. From what we hear, Gowariker had suggested UTV to resort to legal recourse. Eventually, they refrained from doing so as it would have been a time consuming process. When quizzed about it Nadiadwala says, I have got nothing to do with it. Please speak to the distributors. [arr] Wish the media would stop exaggerating.....what else is new?
Does anyone else hear ARR these days continuing to boast and rave about the music of JA? I haven't. He once said in an interview that the music will appeal to a wide audience. That's it. See below: http://www.indiafm.com/news/2007/12/18/10620/
[arr] Concerns about JA
Problem most likely comes to steep prices for both movie and music, leading to difficulty finding distributers, backouts, etc. First, UTV wanted to back out of the film, then they bailed it out. Next, they had a hard time finding a music distributer. BIG music came along, and now is backing out. UTV has to launch its own music label to bail the music out again. See a pattern? No wonder the delays. Wouldn't surprise me a bit if the movie got postponed to Feb or March with music releasing in Jan sometime. As a fan of ARR and Gowarikar, waiting eagerly for both the music and movie, these series of events has been frustrating to watch. Perfectionism has its price, but hopefull, in the end, everyone will be smiling. Hope UTV promotes the music and movie with sincere effort.
Re: [arr] BIG music backs out of JA......replaced by UTV Music??
UTV has the copyrights, and they will be licensing the expertise of Sony Music for the rest of the things. (Remember Kisna?) So lets hope for the best. [arr] Rediff's article on top ten soundtracks of 2007
They left out Taare Zameen Par which is a shame. It's one of my favorites of 2007 and one of my favorites from SEL period. Guru: A R Rahman spells magic. His ability to invent far-out notes and transport the listener in a dream bubble makes him the most sought- after musician in the entertainment industry. In that respect, his work in Mani Ratnam's Guru coupled with Gulzar's lyrics is no different. You can't miss the sublime romance of Tera bina or Ay Hairathe, the in-your-face seduction of Mayya, the carefree bounce of Barso re or the profound poetry of Jaage hain. http://specials.rediff.com/movies/2007/dec/18sld4.htm
[arr] A noteworthy Rahman fan not in this group
.at least I don't think he is. This guy's knowledge of music and films in general is exceptional. I see his posts at naachgaana.com and he is one of the most intellectually minded and informed fans of quality music and movies out there. Here's what he says in response to a rediff article listing the top soundtracks of 2007 (which does include Guru): Guru actually released in `06. But if we're going by release date of the film then this is easily the best soundtrack of the year. Rahman's only competition is with himself. There have been no other Hindi Rahmans this year. Next year the best soundtrack will be either JA or Gajni. I don't say this dogmatically. There is just no comparison between Rahman and anyone else in any sense of the word.

[arr] A.R.Rahmans next
After finishing his second Tamil movie in a row for the less informed, they are Sivaji and the recently released ATM Rahman is now busy finishing off Ashutosh Gowaikar directed epic tale Jodhaa Akbar starring Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai in the lead. The results of Ashutoshs previous outings with Rahman for Lagaan and Swades need no elucidation. Produced by UTV pictures, Jodhaa Akbars music rights were earlier sold to BIG Music. However, quoting lack of time for the promotion of the music and blaming producers UTV for the same, BIG Music recently withdrew from their contract. Music of Jodhaa Akbar will now be promoted by UTV, who for this sole purpose is launching a music label on their own. Higher officials at UTV swear that there is no better launchpad for their music label than releasing Rahmans music. Rahmans music for Jodhaa Akbar has already raised the bar among critics and music lovers alike with its trailer, which had some great music by the maestro. Sources close to Rahman say that the music is very contemporary and one of his best. Send instant messages to your online friends http://uk.messenger.yahoo.com
