Kismat se is a beautiful song, sung by anuradha paudwal and Sonu nigam.
I kinda like the hindi version, though it also has a tamil version..

2008-05-05 Thread Aria null

Kismat se .. is nodoubts one of the gems created by our maestro!!!
it is just breathtaking when sonu nigam hits the high notes (stanza part)...
Infact, sometimes i dream that in the song...In Lamhon Ke daaman mein (from
jodha akbar)...
if sonu had sung the chorus, high notes part as solo .. it wud have been just
mind blowing..
but May be i am wrong , arr knows whats best..not only for the song..also it
has to be according to the picturization of the song in the movie...

but just wish that i cud hear that chorus part as solo voice...

[arr] The Mozart of Madras

2008-05-05 Thread Vithur
 http://erikschaepers.wordpress.com/2008/05/05/the-mozart-of-madras/ The
Mozart of Madras May 5, 2008 · No

I would like to introduce the man whom they call "The Mozart of Madras" …
his name is AR Rahman.

He is an incredibly talented musician, composer, arranger, producer,
performer .. you name it , AR does it. And he does it very, very well. So
far I have "only" listened to a double-CD collection entitled "Introducing
AR Rahman" but when I listen to something intriguingly new, it means that
the particular CD is in permanent rotation in my car's cd player, for weeks
on end.

AR manages to blend the Indian concept of melody-over-rhythm with our
Western concept of Melody-over-Harmonies, and the result is almost always
sensationally beautiful.

It is quite remarkable that although I do not speak a word of Hindi ( do
you? ) AR's music flows so naturally that it needs no explanations at all.
Same was true for Mozart, the master of masters.

A great example of AR's craft is "Thirakkaatha
Kaattukulle"
.

Peace and Love,

Erik

If that comment is true, which I doubt, it's stretching things to say
that only ARR is a MD. There are other talented and prolific MDs in
India who do great work like SEL, Moitra, Bharadwaj. It is nice to
hear that she has only praises for ARR and of course ARR is the best
without a doubt.

Mad about Rahman, dil se These fans live and breathe A R Rahman's music,
finds
Sharmishta Koushik

It was the year 1992. The film Roja was released and with it, a new music
sensation blossomed in the Indian film industry, attracting droves of fans,
mesmerized by his melodies. Their chotti si asha is simply to have the pleasure
of listening to A R Rahman's music and perhaps, watching him perform live, and
if they were really lucky, say a few words to the musical genius in person.
Meet the A R Rahman Fans.
What started off as an e-group, set up by Gopal Srinivasan, a
Bangalore-based consultant, is, today, a veritable database of all things
Rahman. From several media interviews to rare recordings of his tracks and the
inside information on when a new album will be released, these die-hard fans
are truly connoisseurs of Rahman's art. "The intent behind establishing this
group was straightforward — to use the power of the internet to network with
Rahman's fans around the world so that we could share the joy of listening to
his music. In many ways, it is Rahman himself who is responsible for the
popularity of this group — his music and his appeal cutting across barriers. I
am guilty of initially under-estimating the global reach of his music — little
did we realize that we would have people from so many countries across the
world joining in," says Gopal Srinivasan. And indeed, today, the e-group has
over 13,000 members.
On a rather sultry Sunday evening, a few members of the group in Bangalore
gathered in front of the rose garden in Cubbon Park to talk about their
passion. Quite befitting, considering that for most of them, their love affair
with A R Rahman's music began with the film Roja (rose), and like his music,
their devotion to his talent has only increased from strength to strength.
Says Kangan Upadhyay, who works in a software company, "We heard the songs of
Roja before they were officially released. And although I didn't know the
language, I could relate to those songs.''
And she gives credit to the music director for her superb scores in her II
PU exam. "At that time, the music of Alaipayuthe was released, and I kept
listening to it all the time while studying. I scored 99% in Maths. I kept
humming the songs in my mind even as I was writing the paper,'' she recalls
with excitement.
The way Rahman's compositions revolutionized Indian film music is something
the fans immensely respect. "He brought in a whiff of freshness,'' says Balaji
Rajagopal, a chartered accountant. "He brought to Indian films a sound which
was, until then, only heard in jingles,'' says Chandrashekhar Ganesh, a techie.
"Earlier, viewers would walk
out of the theatre for a smoke when the songs would come on. Rahman's music
changed all that,'' says Gomtesh Upadhyay aka Gomzy, a techie.
"He's even a good singer,'' says Vithun Kumar, a BE student. Adds Shahnawaz
Gaffoor, a techie, "His music is international.''
Not surprisingly, Rahman's concerts are always a grand event, akin to
international acts performing in India. And these fans ensure they are there to
watch Rahman live. Most of them took off to Chennai recently, when Rahman
performed there for a concert organized by The Times of India. In fact, it was
during the 2005 concert in Bangalore when the city's fans met each other in
person. They volunteered backstage and even had T-shirts created especially for
the event.
Rehearsals are when they get to interact with the maestro. Some of the
members have even met him at his residence in Chennai. "Once, I went to meet
him at his place. As he was busy he told me to come the next day. He asked me
if I was a non-vegetarian. Since I wasn't, he ensured that vegetarian food was
ordered for me,'' says Prabhu Krishnamurthy, a techie.
During the 2005 concert, they even gifted Rahman a montage of all his album
covers, about 94 — both film and non-film scores. It now adorns a wall in his
studio. And needless to say, if a fan wants to meet him at the studio, those
from this e-group are allowed right in. Rahman has even dedicated a colouring
book for children, released during the Pray For Me Brother tour, to the e-group
in November, 2007.
The members definitely deserve such a token of appreciation, considering
they have taken pains to count the number of musical genres he has explored.
According to them, his music spans about 36-38 genres.
The Bangalore-based fans meet up from time to time, if someone gets hold
of the latest copy of Rahman's

[arr] It’s happened to Aamir once again

It's happened to Aamir once again
By Behindwoods News Bureau.
May 05, 2008

Aamir Khan's Ghajini
suffered yet another blow
with the actor injuring
himself during a stunt sequence. The
accident, which occurred on May 4,
2008, in Sultan Bazaar, happened when
Aamir was chasing the villain for
the climax scene. The scene that was
being canned at that time required
the actor and the villain to fall
on the ground for which thermacole
was used.
  [Aamir Khan]
With thethermacole suddenly
giving in, Aamir hadhurt his
leg. Readers may recall the Aamir
had a similar injury just two weeks ago
but returned to the sets despite doctors'
advice to rest for a few more days. Reports
say that it's a hamstring injury,
which would take at least three weeks to
heal. With this sudden injury, the film
would be halted till the actor recuperates.
Get well soon, Aamir!

Re: [arr] What is a Remix?

2008-05-05 Thread Vithur
Brother Kalyan

I think remix is just adding new instruments, new sounds to the existing
tracks, and make it look sound newer, in accordance to the current times,
without changing the tune of the song.

May be you have to try this for the vocals provided there . Remember, this
is going to be scrutinsed by ARR, and hence he will surely see whats new abt
the remix. We have to try doing something new

[arr] Six Bollywood Movies That Should Already Be In Your Collection

2008-05-05 Thread Vithur
1) "Dil Se (With the Heart)": There is one reason you should watch this
movie—A.R. Rahman. Rahman is a music director who changed the face of music
in Bollywood movies. Mani Ratnam, the director of the film, uses his music
to not only tell the story of a female terrorist and a male journalist
looking for the truth, but to also highlight the different stages of their
relationship—attraction, infatuation, love, reverence, worship, obsession
and death. The dream pairing of Ratnam and Rahman has produced films that
cater to all of your senses, and this one is no exception.

[arr] Sathyam cinemas e-news on Jana Gana Mana

2008-05-05 Thread Thulasi Ram
http://www.sathyamcinemas.com/jana.html for VIDEO

http://www.sathyamcinemas.com/readarchivenews.asp?id=17

*AR. Rahman enthralls once again!*

It was a huge surprise for the audience that had come in to watch the
evening show of Sivaji on Saturday 11 th August. The backdrop on the stage
and the security at the first rows had them guessing for quite a while; and
when his name was announced the crowd cheered madly, and a few rushed
forward to get a glimpse of the music maestro. A R Rahman, Bharatbala and
Kanika Myers had come to Sathyam Cinemas to launch the theatrical video of
Jana Gana Mana.

With a few words on his experience working with the country's musical
greats, he proceeded to unveil the Collector's Edition pack with the video
directors.

Sharing their experience on making of this historic expression of national
pride, Kanika Myer and Bharatbala said, "The collective energy reflected in
this album is beyond explanation and one has to experience it to believe the
passion that went into creating this collection. All the great artistes came
forward and worked tirelessly to salute the spirit of India and its freedom.
We hope that every Indian will want to possess his/her copy of this
memorable collection of renderings and films."

"The greatness of this concept is the humbleness it reflects; the legends
praising the motherland in their unique way is an experience in itself and I
enjoyed every moment of being associated with it. I really feel proud to be
part of this timeless creation" said, A. R. Rahman.
