of late, he has sung a few GEMS !!
 Hope he carries on
on a side note, I felt his voice was a little inferior in Lukka Chupi - Just

to change the contours for music?

In an innocuous development Nokia last week took the initiative to release
the new album of Rabbie, the popular singer of 'Bulla Ki Jaan Main kaun', on
Nokia mobile phone giving the option for the listeners to download the song.
It was as a matter of fact a podcast. Going one step further Nokia has also
taken the initiative of launching Music Nokia Express Music express mixer
application, which is an online music mixer to remix two tracks of Rehman's
latest album, Ada… A way to life. The listeners were given this opportunity
to remix these songs as per their choice, and there is an award as well
which would be given by A R Rehman himself for the best remixing.

This would trigger two developments, one it would ensure the sale of this
handset at a much faster pace, as the music crazy generation would be
provided an opportunity to have a remix of their own, as it would also lead
to proliferation of new generation of music remixers, and would as a logical
effect add to sales of Nokia. Does this have an ominous portent for the
music industry? It would surely have, as the listener is now being given an
opportunity to download only one song that he likes and he may not buy the
whole album, and by providing an opportunity to remix it also, would trigger
curiosity in the listener to go in for remixing the whole set of songs from
a particular album.

The conversion of music into mobile has already been initiated in India as
well, and the market is now ripe for launch of new generation of music
devices that would have to include the features of remixing. In the not too
distant future, the music companies would have to perforce tie-up with the
mobile service providers and scale down there costs of music rights
otherwise the listener may be happy to download one song and keep on
remixing it in as different ways as possible to his heart's content. As it
is the shelf life of present day music is less, and with the option of remix
it would further cut down the shelf life.

The young music director G V Prakash is going stronger and stronger day
after day.

He made his beginning just a year ago with 'Veyyil'. Today he has grown in
stature to compose music for Rajini starrer 'Kuselan'.

The up and coming musician, who is on cloud nine after making Daler Mehendi
to sing in his music for a special song in 'Kuselan', said, Music composer
Rahman, who is his maternal uncle, will soon lend his voice for a number in
my music. I am preparing for that.

Stating that he had got the opportunity to score music for a Rajini film at
a very earlier stage of his career, Prakash said, This shows the confidence
they have in me. I will fulfill the expectations for sure.

[arr] ARR 's song made as Prayer in Dehradun College

2008-05-08 Thread Vithur
as i told u yesterday that my college has decided to have ek tu hi bharosa
as their prayer song, today was the day to introduce it into our assembly..
i reached the college at 8.45 a.m n i didn't know that lots of surprises r
waiting for me there. as i entered into the college, first surprise appeared
in front of me when i saw the lyrics of ek tu hi bharosa hanging on our
notice board with an information this is our new prayer song, so students r
requested to note the lyrics n learn them.
i felt great to see the beautiful lyrics on my notice board.
then it was 9 o'clock, the time for our morning assembly. everybody
assembled in the auditorium. the principal of our college came on the dice
to say sumthing. i understood that it would b regarding our new prayer. he
said, students, from today onwards we r adding a new prayer in our morning
assembly. the prayer is composed by a.r. rahman. this was my second
surprise to hear the name of the maestro from my principal's mouth which was
told to him by me on the previous day.
he called me up to start the prayer as most of the students were not knowing
the lyrics. i was already nervous as the whole concept was mine so i
couldn't speak much there. i just said, let's start the prayer. i wud b
singing few lines n i request u all to plz repeat them after me. i thought
this wud b the easiest way to make them learn the lyrics. as i was singing
the song, i was literally gettin goose-bumps. i had never felt so great in
singing any song...
as the prayer ended, the whole auditorium echoed by the clapping sound... n
that's for me.. i was also clapping n that's for our god arr... can't
express my feelings at that time in words
it was the greatest moment of my life n that's bcoz of our arr...
i salute him...

[arr] A R Rahman goes designer for Cannes

2008-05-08 Thread n_farsad
The music maestro has hired designer duo Shantanu and Nikhil to dress
him up for the coveted film festival, reports Sheree Gomes-Gupta

He has wowed audiences the world over with his superlative
performances, and his music probably overshadows everything else he
does…or even wears. But, as we recently learnt, AR Rahman isn't just
conscious of the beats he composes, but also the way he looks.

Not only does the music maestro have a stylist, but he has roped in
his favourite designers — Shantanu and Nikhil — to dress him up for
the Cannes Film Festival, starting May 14.

His style sense completely gels with our brand philosophy, which is
understated, classic, sophisticated and luxurious. Which is why he
loves our clothes and has been wearing them to his concerts, says
Nikhil Mehra of the designer duo.

So, what'll he be wearing? We've made him a navy blue jodhpuri
bandgala, reminiscent of his Indian heritage, yet with a very stylish
cut and silhouette suitable for red carpet dressing. Bringing in the
luxe touch to the outfit is the appliqué work on the jacket inspired
by the Mughal era. The outfit pays tribute to Rahman, both as a man
and as an artiste who does India proud, he adds.

Interestingly, the music composer had just one request for the
designers — to avoid the colour black. Yes, he does not like the
colour black. But apart from that one input, he left the designing to
us, reveals Nikhil.

Known best for their red carpet dressing, having designed for the
likes of Amitabh Bachchan, Sushmita Sen, Shilpa Shetty and Saif Ali
Khan, among others, for several award functions, the two are now in
the midst of getting their line for the IFFA awards in place. We're
busy finishing the collection and will be soon sending the designs out
to various actresses, informs Nikhil.

And while they've got a whole bevy of beauties on their wish list,
they're hoping Deepika Padukone, Konkana Sen Sharma and Katrina Kaif
will wear their red carpet style to the IFFA. Let's see how it works
out, he says.

REEL OFF - Ahmed Khan on Aamir’s six Ghajini get-ups

A ce choreographer Ahmed Khan is amidst a flurry of activity at the moment.
Besides producing his next film, Paathshaala starring Shahid Kapoor and Ayesha

to perform like their favourite screen idols. Ahmed recreated the title song of

However, his most exciting assignment at the moment seems to be Ghajini, where
he is making superstar Aamir Khan dance to A R Rahman’s tunes.

Ahmed reveals that the film's music is a little ‘hatke’ even by Rahman
standards. He says, the film's music is very different….a bit of Rhythm
Blues. You’ll know what I mean when the music comes out. There’s a particular
song in Ghajini where Aamir has spotted six different hair styles. I’m sure
it’s going to create a buzz.” Apart from choreography, Ahmed was recently in

“Both actors are very dear to me. I was all set to do the item song in Krazzy

ARR doesnt like the colour Black.. To be noted... All our T Shirts have been
in Black Colour :-(

Re: [arr] Vijay TV awards to ARR

2008-05-08 Thread Vithur
http://www.hindu.com/mp/2008/05/06/stories/2008050650210400.htm

*Awards and accolades all the way *

**

**

**

**
Seven Tamil films bagged most of the Reliance Mobile Vijay Awards at a
recent function

   Photo: R. Shivaji Rao

*MOMENT OF PRIDEDirector Maniratnam receiving the Chevalier Sivaji Ganesan
Award from Director K. Balachandar at the second annual Reliance Mobile
Vijay Awards 2007 *

Paruthiveeran and Polladhavan bagged four jury awards each (including
Best Film and Best Director respectively) as Pokkiri and Sivaji shared
honours in the popular category, winning four statuettes each as well. With
Chennai 28, Mozhi, Kattrudhu Tamizh winning two pieces each, 20 out of
the 30 Reliance Mobile Vijay Awards were clearly dominated by these seven
films.

Satyaraj was adjudged the best actor for Onbathu Rooba Nottu, Superstar
Rajnikant was voted by fans as their favourite Hero and the industry awarded
the Best Entertainer Award to Vijay. Karthi and Anjali won the best debut
actor awards for Paruthiveeran and Kattradhu Tamil. Priyamani was
adjudged Best Actress and Nayanthara was voted Favourite Actress.

All of this took over five hours to unfold as one man decided to make it an
enduring experience for the audience. When Yuhi Sethu announced I am back,
little did we know what we were in for. Clearly lacking in brevity and wit,
Sethu decided to pun-ish us with his brand of dry humour that was received
with an appropriately dry response from the crowd.

Cinema was moving closer to realism as news was becoming larger than life,
he observed on behalf of the jury that included Bhagyaraj, Madhan,
Priyadarshan, Lizzy and Yuhi Sethu himself.

Vijay is regarded as one of the smartest Tamil language channels, said
Ajay Vidyasagar, president — Content, STAR TV, recalling how Kathai Illai
Nijam was the first live reality show in Tamil ever and now Jodi No. 1
rated as highest viewed non-fiction show ever. He said that STAR's
association with the Tamil film industry goes back to Channel V's Quick Gun
Murugan ads made in 1996 that popularised the catchphrase: Mind it, today
used by the Chennai Super Kings team mascot Dhoni in the latest Pepsi
commercial.

The emotional highpoint of the event was when a frail Film News 'Anandan'
was honoured for his contribution to Tamil Cinema by Manorama who called him
the 'Chitraguptan' of Tamil Cinema. Later in the evening, K. Balachander
gave away the Chevalier Sivaji Ganesan award for excellence to Mani Ratnam,
who said it was honour to get the Sivaji award and wished he had the
opportunity to have worked with the veteran. And, A.R.Rahman said, Ella
Pugazhum Iraivanukke.

Among the acceptance speeches, the most sentimental were by the directors
Vetrimaran and Venkat Prabhu, the most unassuming speeches were by Prakash
Raj and Prabhu Deva (Prakash Raj said other people from his team probably
did a better job and a visibly thrilled Prabhu Deva said how he didn't
expect this as he admired all filmmakers nominated, including Vishnuvardhan
for Billa) and the actors thanked the directors (Satyaraj gave Thankar
Bachan all credit, Karthi did a crowd-pleaser saying a couple of lines from
the movie before thanking Ameer and Superstar in a video-recorded acceptance
speech held Shankar responsible for the success of Sivaji).

The Best singers Neha Bhasin (who said she it was her first award ever) and
Krish performed, the king of bling BlaaZe did a hip-hop act and there were
item numbers by Kamna, Samiksha, Rahasya and Sada who were accompanied by
John Britto's energetic bunch of dancers.

Overall, it's a show best seen on TV where you have the option of changing
channels to escape Yuhi's longish academic preludes to each of the thirty
categories.
