When A Treat Is Not A Treat, But Is A Double Treat!
Trust A R Rahman to
pull a fast one on us when least expected. For the past 3 years we’ve
been fed on crumbs, literally – there have been a measly 3 albums (Rang De
Basanti, Guru and Jodhaa Akbar)
composed by the musical genius since 2006 and we’ve been forced to
sportingly take that lying down. And now out of the blue, two A R
Rahman albums releasing one day apart! Talk about a double treat. And
even though I know that as a die-hard A R Rahman fan I should be
ashamed for not having had a shadow of an inkling that Rahman had been
preparing to cut his own album for the past 6 months or so, there’s a
certain special charm to pleasant surprises like these. It kind of
makes me wish I hadn’t spent the 6 months before the release of the 7th Harry
Potter book obsessing about the million or so theories concerning anything and
everything about Potterverse.

Right then, so the big question, of course, is – how good are the two new A R
Rahman albums – Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na and Ada? I’ll start with Jaane Tu Ya Jaane
Na, or JTYJN for short (I really did think Aamir Khan, of all people, wouldn’t
find
the need to have the title of his movie sound like the first half of
the script). The movie is supposed to be a youthful romance, and
Rahman, as always, makes sure that every track in the album perfectly
fits the theme of the movie. The first track, Kabhi Kabhi Aditi Zindagi is -
there’s no other word for it – vintage A R Rahman. In other words, a very very
good composition. Jaane Tu Mera Kya Hai is somewhat a middling track – a little
weird on melody, and the kind of song you don’t really know whether to like or
not. Nazrein Milaana almost sounds like Shankar-Ehsaan- Loy territory, and I
think I should
add here that Rahman does a better Shankar-Ehsaan- Loy than anyone else,
maybe even better than the trio themselves. I normally hate to use this
word, but the track is wonderfully- peppy. So much for the perennial classical
inclinations of the maestro.

Pappu Can’t Dance is, plain and simple, disappointing. If there has been one
grouse I
have held against Rahman these past few years, other than his tendency
to occasionally disappear from the music scene for months together, is
that he seems to have lost his touch when it comes to dance numbers.
Which was the last really rocking dance number you heard from him? Masti Ki
Pathshala from Rang De Basanti?
When I heard that song for the first time, I had a hard time getting
past the fact that the song actually had no tune to speak of.
Personally, I thought the Meherbaan track from Tehzeeb was great, but even that
was nearly 5 years ago. I don’t know about you, but I really miss the days of
Rangeela Re and Humma Humma. But we must make do with what we have, and what we
have is still quietly and impressively enthralling. Kahin To Hogi almost sounds
like a Westlife/Boyzone track with Hindi lyrics, and it
does its job well. And can we ever have a Rahman album without a single
track that strays dramatically from the beaten Bollywood path? Tu Bole Main
Boloon is laden with heavy jazz and funk elements, and while I’m sure it’d
suit the context of the movie well, I can’t really say that I enjoyed
the track.

Ok, enough of film talk. Let’s talk about Rahman’s own privately recorded album
Ada now. The thing that struck me the moment I started listening to the
tracks of the album is how unnatural Rahman’s songs sound when sung by
typically dulcet singers like Sonu Nigam and Alka Yagnik. Maybe I don’t
notice that in Rahman’s Bollywood albums, but then again, how often
does he sign up the typical Bollywood singers anyway? I personally
can’t get enough of Rahman’s own vocals – there’s something very
endearing about the way he completely disregards the lyrics of the song
(he still can’t speak Hindi, even after all these years) and gets lost,
almost like a child, in the rhythm and melody of the track. As it turns
out, however, there’s just one song sung by him in the album, and that
put me off in a big way. Ada is a very nice album, no
doubt, but I somehow get the feeling that Rahman is playing it safe
with this album – almost too many mass-appealing numbers. Gulfisha is a
fantastic track, but what on earth is Gumsum all about? For a second there I
almost felt like looking it up on the
internet and making sure that it was actually Rahman who’d composed the
track and not some blissfully stagnant Nadeem-Shravan or Sajid-Wajid
type of music director, what with the Madanpura-style beats andall. Hawa Sun
Hawa restored some of my faith in Rahman, and Meherbaan almost made me feel
guilty of my earlier d

Shooting starts for 'Chennaiyil Oru Mazhai Kaalam'

Gautham, who has finished up the work on 'Varanam Aayiram' starring Suriya will
start the shooting of his latest movie today.

The story of the film takes its shape from the call centre life of the city and
the leading lady and the most experienced among the new actors Trisha plays the
role of a girl working in a call centre.

Satish who was last seen in the movie 'Unnale Unnale' plays an important role
in this new film.

The film while showing the IT culture of the city also will portray the life
experienced by the employees during the night shifts.

The health and family problems faced by the call centre professionals will also
have its say in the new urban film.

The film has songs composed by the music maestro A.R.Rahman and is produced by
P Madan and J Ganesh under the Escape Artist Motion Pictures Banner.

Art direction is by Rajeevan.

Although Chennai is a hub of lots of leading call centers in India and a vast
number of the present day youth who are also a part of the strong film crazy
youngsters who represent the majority of the film audience works in the call
centers and IT companies, not many films have come out of Kollywood which shows
the life of this community till now.

Given the skills of Gautham Menon a fantastic film that shows all the sides of
the kind of life led by the youngsters as well as their attitude towards life
can be expected.

[arr] Blog review - JTYJN - 4

2008-05-24 Thread Gopal Srinivasan
Jaane Tu ya Jaane Na looks to be the perfect launch pad for Imran Khan, nephew
of Aamir Khan. The music by A.R.Rahman seems to have create the right
impression. The music of Jaane Tu Jaane Na, is peppy and youthful, the one that
can be in the same mould as Duniya Dilwalon Ki. With peppy and soulful romantic
numbers in Jaane tu Ya Jaane Na, the album should surely rock.

'Kabhi Kabhi Aditi Zindagi' should end up as one of the best romantic tracks of
2008. Beautifully written by director and lyricist Abbas Tyrewala, this should
be likened by all, particularly by the girls who are named ‘Aditi’ and their
boyfriends. The singer Rashid’s voice seems to be a perfect foil to Imran Khan.

Tap your legs to the foot-tapping “Pappu cant dance”. Strict warning: Play it
loud. The track is racy and fun-filled. Singers Anupama Deshpande, Benny Dayal,
Blaze, Tanvi, Darshana, Satish Subramanium, Mohd. Aslam have created a zingy
feel to the track. Both the remixed version and the actual version, though the
remixed version is more danceable.

The song ‘‘Jaane Tu Mera Kya Hai’ sung by Runa has a haunting feel of lost
love.. It is in the same mould as ‘Zara Zara’ or ‘Tanhai’. But the track may
take time to grow. The pensive feel is conveyed in a more solemn mood through
Sukhvinder song in the male version.

‘Nazrein Milaana Nazrein Churaana’ is yet another youthful track that can make
you addicted. This one is also sung by a bevy of singers- Naresh Iyer, Benny
Dayal, Satish Chakravarthy, Darshana, Shwetha, Tanvi, Bhargavi, Anupama etc.
'

Tu Bole Main Boloon sung by A.R.Rahman has feel of a classic Hollywood musical
. The song is a take on how boys and guys have different ways of looking at
things. This one also make time to grow but the musical arrangements are just
perfect.

Rashid Ali is again in top form with the most romantic song of the album ‘Kahin
Toh Hogi’. A personal favorite, this one has a very good repeat value.
Defintely one of those tracks to enter your i-pod.

Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na is the best album of the year so far and if there is no
competitor in its way, it will fetch yet another award for AR.Rahman. The
frothy and youthful album of A.R.Rahman in the form of Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na, is
a pleasant diversion from the music wizard who had been slotted lately into
giving music only for period films and serious cinema. Finally the Rangeela
flavor of Rahman is back!

Listen to Pappu can't dance saala :)

[arr] SAKKARAKKATTI - 2 crore song

2008-05-24 Thread kishore parayath
As i previously said in a thread that there is a song in Sakkarakatti, which
has been grandly arranged with SOUNDS and TONES which has been never before
heard in Indian cinema. Now, another website confirms taht the song is shot
in Prasad Studios, with a HUGE SET which depicts the NEWYORK city after 500
YEARS!!! The producer says that the total cost of a song would come around 2
crores!

[arr] SAKKARAKATTI this june???

2008-05-24 Thread kishore parayath
Hey pls confirm the audio release of Sakkarakatti.

Re: [arr] Re: ADA Vs JTYJN - Which album attracted you more?

2008-05-24 Thread kishore parayath
*Both are entirely diferent albums.Dont compare them, just becuase ARR
composed them. ARR is the most versatile compose on Planet Earth.. JTYJN isa
a youthful album... Composing for JTYJN is no big deal for ARR.. And as
usual he has delivered great numbers Whereas, ADA, as the journals say,
is a Musical Journey by ARR It is for the matured music listeners
Except for the soul-stirring Meherbaan, rendered by ARR himself, every other
song takes time to grow on you. But when u have digested the Music, then you
would feel that ADA is one of the all-time great works of ARR..*
*So never compare two ENTIRELY different ALBUMS. It would be like
comparing the Hi-tech Thiruda Thiruda with the folk in Kizhakku
Cheemayile...*

Re: [arr] Re: Jagghubai song! exclusive news

2008-05-24 Thread Aravind AM
It is indeed true... ARR himself had mentioned this in an interview...
it was posted in the group last year

Well, ATM song is also nice since it has a similar style and lyrics.
Both are excellent intro songs, but Ah Aah really wasted on SJS.

Anyway, you can read the news on Jaggubhai on
www.onlysuperstar.blogspot.com , a blog of an ardent Rajini fan, and
hence he provides only 95% reliable news, and I think this is true
 too.

The scoop is that JB is revived and Sarath is playing the hero. Music
 composer is still unknown.

Hi (Whoever you are)
Nice try man and nice finding.
We appreciate your hard work.
But i feel sorry for you, because even a 2 year child can tell after
listing both songs that nothing is similar.
But at least you listened to Rahman Saab's song carefully, which is great.
Because unknowingly you did yourself a great favor.

If it makes you happy, then we agree for your sake that the song was
copied.
Please keep listening to Rahman Saab's music carefully and let us know
if you find out another such copying.
Because people like you really help us in boosting our faith in Rahman
Saab more and more every time.

God bless you my friend.

[arr] Vidyasagar speaks abt ARR

2008-05-24 Thread Vithur
In Cofee with Anu, Vidyasagar had picked up a card laid on the table by Anu,
and it was none other than ARR, who was in the card. So, these are the
words, spoken by Vidyasgar

" We both joined together to the same Guru ( Dhanraj Master). My father was
in his father's troupe. I learnt Guitar, while he learnt piano. He has been
a musician with me too. It is very heartening to see, a Tamilian taking
Music to INternational heights. He has long way to go.

Here Anu adds abt ARR telling A very nice person .. For which Vidyasagar
tells... Yaa. Sweeet fellow..

Three cheers for Rahman, Aamir IndiaGlitz [Saturday, May 24, 2008]

http://www.indiaglitz.com/channels/tamil/article/38774.html

Rahman and Aamir Khan have developed a fascination for each other. After
'Rang De Basanti', the two come together for 'Ghajini', directed by A R
Murugadoss.

Aamir Khan has roped in Rahman to score the music for his home production
'Jane Tu' to be directed by Abbas Tyrewala. Aamir Khan is launching his
nephew Imran Khan as hero in the movie.

Rahman says, "It is nice to work with Aamir. He gives one enough freedom. A
great producer, he values music a lot".

[arr] Indiaglitz music review - JTYJN - **** (4 stars)

Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na - Youthfully Romantic!
http://www.indiaglitz.com/channels/hindi/musicreview/10214.html
*SAVIO ZACHARIA*, IndiaGlitz [Friday, May 23, 2008]

*'Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na'* music releases very much the Aamir Khan style under
the hands of mentor Shammi Kapoor. The movie produced by Aamir Khan might
just prove to be the perfect launch pad for nephew Imraan Khan. The movie
promises more with director Abbas Tyrewala penning down some beautiful lines
and with the ace A.R.Rahman at work.

The album opens to some fine guitar beats in complete symphony with the
youthful and melodious voice of debutant Rashid Ali supporting the charming
looks of yet another debutant Imraan Khan. The track 'Kabhi Kabhi Aditi
Zindagi' , has already been creating the required buzz with the current
promos and is sure to be remembered as one of the top tracks of the year.

Anupama, Benny Dayal, Blazee, Tanvi, Darshana, Satish Subramanium and Aslam
bring in the 'Pappu can't dance' number . The song has already had its share
of hype thanks to the lyrical links to bollywood hunk Salman Khan. Though
Aamir has cleared the apparent links to Salman by stating that Salman is
indeed a better dancer, the audiences may still carry the Salman-Pappu
linkage.

Though the track reminds you of Rahman's *'Girlfriend* 'number from *'Boys'*,
it fails to make the same impact. The music is loud and calls for all the
Pappu's to prove their might. The remix version in indeed racy and the track
is set to do well with the ongoing promotion.

*'Jaane Tu Mera Kya Hai( Aditi)'* has been rendered by yet another newcomer
Runa. The lines of this one along with the soft background beats enhanced by
the vocals provides for a great track for those lovelorn or solitude seeking
personalities.

The male version of the track '*Jaane Tu Meri Kya Hai(Jai)'* crooned by the
brazen Sukwinder Singh grabs you with the very first go. Sukwinder makes you
feel for the broken hearted and takes you to just another world.

*'Nazrein Milaana Nazrein Churaana'* yet again brings in a bunch of talent
in the form of Benny Dayal, Satish Chakravarthy, Naresh Iyer, Darshana,
Shwetha, Tanvi, Bhargavi, Anupama. The composition is very much like a
Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy saga but it just shows you how versatile Rahman can get.
The track though isn't the finest around but tends to grow on you after a
while. Some good promotion will boost it further.

*'Tu Bole Main Boloon',* which apparently is the title track of the movie,
brings in some beautiful composition enhanced by Rahman's vocals. The lines
of the track too draw some attention. The track brings in the western jazz
feel and is one of those quietly funny yet romantic numbers that explore the
differences between a girl and boy.

*'Kahin To Hogi Ho'* equates to being exactly what 'Pehla Nasha' was to 'Joh
Jeeta Wohi Sikandar'. The soulfully power packed track brings forth Rashid
Ali to deliver his second splendid number on his debut album. Vasundhra Das
provides some back up on the vocals. This one is sure to be a favorite
amongst the ones in love or the lovelorn listeners. The serenity just grabs
you instantly as the track unveils. As for Rashid Ali , he seems to be
Rahman's next Naresh Iyer(who made his mark with 'Ru Ba Ru' in 'Rang De
Basanti').

On the whole, Rahman returns to such youthful campus love story after a
hiatus but still proves he's got enough romance running right through. The
album backed by Abbas Tyrewala's lyrics provides enough support for his
directorial venture. As for Imraan , looks like the music promises the same
platform that Uncle Aamir Khan had with 'Qayamant Se Qayamat Tak' and 'Joh
Jeeta Wohi Sikandar'.

*Rating : *

well then it will become musical blockbuster of all time and will break

the way he composed JTYJN. Hai Dard is bit dissappointing for me in ADA but
thats alright for me,rest of the songs were composed well. Overall
you can say brilliant album. Waiting for Joginder's review on ADA.

[arr] planet bollywood reviews ADA - 8.5/10

2008-05-24 Thread Thulasi Ram
It's always a rare treat to reap the pleasures of a complete Rahman
soundtrack. And after 2004, in which he released a whopping four [Hindi]
soundtracks, we've merely been getting quick glimpses of the musical
phenomenon either once or twice a year. That's all about to change, as we
have TWO back-to-back Rahman albums releasing simultaneously – JAANE TU YA
JAANE NA and ADA. If you add in January's release of Jodhaa-Akbar, then we
already have THREE Rahman soundtracks in a short span of just five months.
Let's take it one step further, shall we? IF (and that's a big if) release
dates are expected to remain constant, then by the end of the year we may
very well witness the release of two additional Rahmantic scores in GHAJINI
and YUVRAAJ. Now, if you told me a few years ago that in 2008 the Industry
would listen to the music of Rahman in five separate and complete
soundtracks, I would have said you're crazy!

Nevertheless, today we're zoning in on just one – ADA…A Way of Life. The
music of ADA is intriguing to me for a couple of reasons. When you look at
Rahman's resume (1998 and onwards), barring just a few cases, all his
projects have been highly anticipated scores. ADA is definitely not one of
them. If you clicked on this review thinking it's just another low-budget
disaster with forgettable music only to soon realize, in a dazed and
confused state, that the music credits read A.R. Rahman, I guarantee you're
not the only one. In fact, the music of ADA was conceived and recorded some
six years ago, while the film was still in its prime. ADA, a film that had
seemingly joined the countless other projects sitting on the backburner has
now been given new life with the release of its music on May 20, 2008, six
years later!

*"The music of the film actually took six years to make because the film
started six years back in 2002. The music has a very old school melody feel.
But it also has other tunes so it does have a color of different genres in
it."* – *A.R. Rahman* [CNN-IBN]

It will be interesting to experience what Rahman terms as "old school
melody." Since he's always maintained a very distinct class of melody, ADA
will give listeners the perfect opportunity to witness a live progression in
melodic genres first hand. It's also refreshing to see Rahman stop on a dime
to compose for a more modest film (which he hasn't done in years) after just
delivering music for one of India's grandest films, Jodhaa-Akbar. Lyrics are
provided by Raqueeb Alam (Water) and Nusrat Badr (Devdas).

Rahman packs a peppy punch in the very distinctive *Ishq Ada IMale Version)*.
>From first-hand experience I can tell you that the number one struggle for
composers and arrangers who are trying to get ahead now a days is the
ethereal fusion of universal appeal with avant-garde sound. Rahman isn't the
Madras Mozart by fluke, he has mastered this union to provide us with both
soul-stirring melodies and foot-tapping beats, while maintaining that
never-before-heard sound. *Ishq Ada* is a pure synergy of both elements.

Let's first look at Element 2: Rhythmic Background. Rahman differentiates
the rhythm from the very get-go by commencing the number with an
instrumental rhythm, as opposed to the more conventional percussion rhythm.
The catchy rhythmic riffs of the guitar immediately bring the playful
atmosphere to the forefront of the composition. As the melodic lines
progress, so does the rhythmic build-up, as Rahman casually throws in some
arabic percussions to give more spice to the musical aura, while the
instrumental rhythm remains beautifully camouflaged beneath the percussions
and melody.

Element 1: Melodic Foreground. Although I don't quite see the "old-school
melody" in this composition, I definitely can say that Rahman has dabbled
quite a bit with experimentation while conceiving this franticly cool tune.
Despite having numerous variations of the same melodic structure, Rahman
surreptitiously strips the piece of differentiated stanzas. Normally this
would be devastating, but it's Rahman's versatile melody that keeps masking
itself to keep you hooked! Rashid Ali is perfect in his rendition of the
relentless tune. His vocals are just as playful as the melody itself, as he
balances his performance with emotion and poise. Lastly, the only other
instrumental performance, apart from the guitar rhythm, is the harmonium,
which makes short timid appearances between melodic riffs. It's Rahman's way
of adding a simple touch to a relatively simple song. Raqueeb Alam's short
and snappy reflections on love fit the mood of the piece with perfect
lyrical harmony. Verdict: Let the soul-tapping beats and stylish tunes of *Ishq
Ada* flow through you…grow on you…

We are in true Rahmantic heaven with the absolutely gorgeous duet *Hawa Sun
Hawa*. I know I may catch a lot of flack for this, but this has to go down
as one of Sonu Nigam's and Alka Yagnik's greatest duets – and that's saying
something! It all begins and ends with Rahman's golden melody. I

[arr] Planet bollywood JTYJN music review.

2008-05-24 Thread juliencristobal
About 12 months ago, under the auspices of the previous backers,
Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na? (referred to as Jaane Tu from here on) was
faltering as a project but an effort to resurrect its fortunes was
attempted by a certain Aamir Khan. The thing was, the family name was
at stake, what with the debut of his nephew Imraan Khan.
So the question is what changes were introduced by the new co-
producer, a perfectionist by nature? Well a number of things actually
and for us lucky music fans the re-selection of the music director
from Himesh Reshammiya (no disrespect to him or his fans) to….any
guesses who that might be? Yes listeners, he chose the best of the
best, A R Rahman! Well let's admit it, he probably felt he had enough
on his plate without needing to worry about the music so it was best
left in the legendary hands of our very own Mozart!

But before we move onto the soundtrack, can I but try to curtail your
expectations a little? You see for many of us, the amazing sounds of
Jodhaa-Akbar still linger in our ears and for good reason. However
comparisons with that may as well stop right here, that was a
magnificent effort that matched the grandeur of the movie and touched
upon the true genius of Rahman's abilities. It would have to be a
truly special soundtrack to match that. We now also have his latest
musical release in Ada which is another soulful piece that oozes
quality but remember that it has been 6 years in the making…Jaane Tu
on the other hand appears to be a light hearted romantic centering on
a bunch of college friends. Interestingly if you exclude Rahman and
Sukhwinder, the remaining singers (14 or so!) are either completely
new or relatively new. What does that tell you about Rahman's own
vision and expectations? Right with that reality check out of the
way, let's move onto the soundtrack; a fun, refreshing and thoroughly
enjoyable effort in its own right…

First up Rahman adds style and substance with the short but ultra
soothing Kabhi Kabhi Aditi Zindagi. But on a music front don't expect
too much experimentation here as the maestro focuses on getting your
attention from the start with the aid of a catchy rhythm; a funky
beat underpinned by the subtle strings of an acoustic guitar that
hold the backbone to the song. This is used to create a relaxing mood
and a backdrop to an uplifting number about life, friendship and
human relationships. Listen out for the seamless changes in tempo as
well.

However whilst Rahman takes a back seat with the music he introduces
a new singing sensation in Rashid Ali and what an impact he makes
with minimal fuss! His vocals are a breath of fresh air and the
undertone therein holds that youthful gusto that is begging to be
heard, quite simply a superb debut on display here by this little
known singer. Special mention for the lyrics too by Abbas Tyrewala
(also the director for the movie!) which are personable (hence the
repeated reference to the lead female character Aditi). This gives
the lyrics greater impact and meaning especially on screen. Put
simply this a gorgeous little lounge number to break the ice and open
the soundtrack…

More style follows but this time in support of the newcomer Imraan
Khan who gets a personal introduction with the peppy Pappu can't
dance! and confirms the composer's attention to detail. From the
outset this sounds like a typical dance / masti type jingle with
Abbas' silly lyrics about `Pappu' but listen closely and you will
hear the intricacy with layer upon layer of variety to hold your
attention right until the end….from the mix of current (acoustic
guitar is back to provide killer riffs!) and traditional arrangements
to the use of multiple young singers (Anupama, Benny Dayal, Blazee,
Tanvi, Darshana, Satish Subramanium and Aslam) sharing lines
harmoniously and some brilliant little chorus effects, they all add
to the enjoyment of this fun packed song which will undoubtedly sound
even better on screen!

Note the Pappu can't Dance! Remix is disappointing in all honesty as
it's unnecessarily loud without adding any serious value to the
original which you should stick to.

Rahman, back in his comfort zone, effortlessly produces the title
song Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na which probably plays in the background to
the movie. This one is fairly sombre in truth but that reason alone
does not mean it is any less enjoyable. However there is no USP as in
the previous tracks which may put off certain listeners as will the
typical lyrics by Abbas. There are two versions to provide variety;
newcomer Runa Rizvi sings the more upbeat version of the two which is
orchestrated with modern sounds and a favourite of Rahman, Sukhwinder
Singh performs the reprise. This version is slower and backed with
more traditional instruments such as the dhol. Both perform admirably
but you have to say the composition overall is average by Rahman's
standards for lacking a killer USP.

Any reason why no credits were given to the person who played the
trumpet so beautifully in this track? Many have called it a
saxaphone, but it's in fact a trumpet. It's not a synth trumpet.

It' Anbe Aaruyire song from Ah Aah
Well, ATM song is also nice since it has a similar style and lyrics.
Both are excellent intro songs, but Ah Aah really wasted on SJS.

Anyway, you can read the news on Jaggubhai on
www.onlysuperstar.blogspot.com , a blog of an ardent Rajini fan, and
hence he provides only 95% reliable news, and I think this is true
too.

The scoop is that JB is revived and Sarath is playing the hero. Music
composer is still unknown.

[arr] Re: I copy / You copy / He copies.....LET's ALL COPY !

2008-05-24 Thread Dinesh Vaidya
To all whose who responded to this thread and those who read it...

Please, do not applaud me for my email, when you are a true RAHMANIAC,
such feelings come right from your heart It does not take much
efforts for someone to comment that "he has copied" ... I wish life
would have been so easy for all of us to pass judgements with such an
ease.

My advice to such "quick gun" members would be to understand that
Rahman spent a good part of his life doing unimaginable struggle and
hardwork and has achieved the success which he deserves now. The
Rahman I know, does not need these PROPS in copying a tune here and a
piece there to make his songs successful !

We all have come together under the banner of RAHMANIACS, not to put
down others, nor to show how great we are... We are here to enjoy
Rahman's music and simultaneously try to imbibe his life's philosophy.
So our aim should be to copy his humbleness, talent, and his support
to social welfare instead of spending our energy in finding which song
is similar to this one or that one..

Dear ALI AHAD, Which border you are you talking about ? Are there any
borders in music ? or in sharing love, compassion, humbleness ? Not to
my knowledge. So you may be talking about political boundries, but
with Rahmaniacs, there are no borders ! Rahman will never believe in
borders.

Let's all interact and stay together as RAHMANIACs, and World will be
a much better place to live.

Best regards
Dinesh Vaidya

[arr] For Kunal Kohli, it's thoda direction thoda production ( semi ARR)

2008-05-24 Thread Vithur
*For Kunal Kohli, it's thoda direction thoda production*

Mumbai (PTI): Filmmaker Kunal Kohli, who has turned producer with `Thoda
Pyar Thoda Magic', says he always wanted to be a director-producer to own
the movies he makes.

He, however, said he has been given a free hand at Yash Raj Films that has
produced his previous three movies.

"I was always involved in the production even as a director and had full
control of my movies," Kohli told reporters here last evening.

He said Yash Raj Films is jointly producing `Thoda Pyar...' with him.
Despite turning a producer, direction will remain his first love, he said.

According to him, if a film flops, the director stands to lose the most. "A
producer will suffer only financial loss, but the director stands to lose
creatively which hurts more than the financial loss."

"I plan to produce films for independent directors as well. With corporates
coming into the film industry, several newcomers are getting a chance to
direct films. I have three assistant directors whose films I plan to
produce," he said.

The filmmaker, whose ventures include `Hum Tum' and `Fanaa', said he has
consciously tried that his movies have different shades. "I don't want to
have a style. I want to be challenged when I a trying something else."

About `Thoda Pyar Thoda Magic', Kohli said it was an entertaining film which
would appeal to kids and the kids inside grown ups. "We don't make films for
kids any more. If there are some, there is childishness. We need to talk
intelligently to kids."

Kohli said said his new film speaks about love, relationships and family.

Kohli said he is not a lavish spender on films.

"Thoda Pyar..." was completed in less than Rs 20 crore. My previous films
`Fanaa' and `Hum Tum' were made at a budget of Rs 24 crore and Rs 7.5 crore
respectively."

"Even movies like `Taare Zameen Par' and `Munnabhai' were made for Rs 12
crore and Rs 15 core respectively. Audiences come to theatres to see the
quality of the content and not the cost at which it has been made," he
maintained.

Kohli felt that Saif Ali Khan, who had featured in `Hum Tum', has excelled
in every new image a filmmaker has given to the versatile actor.

"Even in Thoda Pyar.., he will be seen in a totally different avatar," he
added.

Speaking about Rani Mukherji, Kohli said her repertoire of work in the last
few years has a varied range which no other actress of recent times can
match.

The filmmaker said he was heartbroken at the break-up of music composers
Jatin, Lalit who have scored the music of his previous films.

*"Even A R Rehman had publicly stated that the duo should stay together. For
`Thoda Pyar... I have worked for the first time with Shankar Ehsaan Loy. My
music composers have always given me original scores," he said. *
