[arr] Benny and Chinmayi

2008-07-12 Thread Thulasi Ram
recently, we've seen ARR use Benny a lot.. ATM, jaane tu and now
sakkarakkati..Beeny's voice is so youthful and it rocks! m not sure if Benny
is ARRs find but i like voice better than naresh's or karthik's.. he is at
his full tempo in the taxi taxi song and with fully energy in the chinamma
song.

on the other chinmayi has shown her versatality by giving two different
voices for i missu da and chinamma song. i had to look the credits again to
assure if it was chinmayi, as both voice is different from the one i've
heard in tere bina!

to me, i miss u da song is the biggest surprise of the album, orchestration
and additional programming for that the complex tune is just excellent.
chinmayi has done a great job for that song..

overall, this album is bubbling youth and has an amazing feel.. hope the
movie does great in the box office and also in terms of script.. verdict of
music is just out-n-out hit!

[arr] [Non-Sakkarakatti] - Gentleman song in a french movie Sheitan

2008-07-12 Thread Madhavan Rajan
Gentleman song "Ottagaththa Kattiko" was used in the french movie "Sheitan"
and the french artist "La caution" (Hi-Tekk and Nikkfurie) have been given
credits for this song...
We all know that "La Caution" used the complete song in their album "Pilotes
Automatiques", but this is the first time I'm hearing that they have even
gone one step ahead in selling this to a movie without giving any credits to
our boss AR Rahman...

I have the whole movie with me...However, I see some of the you tube links
already available...

www.*youtube*.com/watch?v=rLU19UOohmI - This has the clip exactly from the
movie...(Certified "U" to watch this video)

www.*youtube*.com/watch?v=IGcr2ZKfb00 - This has the song from an unofficial
site...(Certified "A" to watch this video)

I searched the groups and found a relevant topic discussed in 2006, but
still posting here as that had no video links at that time...

Viviane Chaix, the french artist being in our ARRji's band might be helpful
in finding the information on how "La Caution" came to know about this Tamil
track...

Cheers,

[arr] Sakkarakatti review 3

2008-07-12 Thread Gopal Srinivasan
The long awaited soundtrack of the movie Sakkarakatti has hit the
stores yesterday. Rahman has scored half a dozen bright and colorful
songs for this ‘Shanthanu’ starrer.
1. Taxi Taxi*
Singers: Benny Dayal, Blaaze, Viviane Chaix and Javed Ali
Lyrics: Blaaze, Na Muthukumar, Viviane Chaix
Basically a friendship song like Mustafa, full of Blaaze’s Rap
interludes, Vivian’s ooh laas and french chants. The rhythm of this
song is pretty ordinary but the vocals and other additions take it to
the next level. This song gives us the feel of a ‘Bollywood’ number.
Lyrics bringout this ‘ipod’ age’s friends and their relationships with
a bit of slapstick humour. Pals dont miss this!
2. Marudhani
Singers: Madhushree, A R Rahman, Henry
Lyrics : Vaali
Probably a heroine solo melody, with soft beats and chorus. Pleasant
interludes and Rahman’s hummings complete this soft but quick number.
This is the only song which contains ARR’s voice in this album. Dynamic
Vaali’s lyrics are spoiled by Madhushree’s poor Tamil accent. So a kind
request to Madhushree:’Please find a good tamil teacher before
commiting your next Tamil song’.

3. I Miss You Da*
Singers: Chinmayi, Indai Haza
Lyrics : Na Muthukumar
Another solo female song in which ARR has experimented with converting
different ordinary sounds into one sweet melody. Appears to be a fusion
of pop music and dubstep genre. Chinmayi’s versatile voice realises
ARR’s dream. Also the song progresses with ‘Adhiradikkaran’ kind of
beats now and then. The chorus and beats are avant-garde. May demand a
lot of listening before you love it. Muthukumar’s lyrics are very
ordinary and fails to impress. The feel produced by this song is
similar to the effect produced by ‘Maja Maja’(SOK) and
‘Kettena’(Desam). A song for the world!
4.Chinnamma
Singers: Benny Dayal, Chinmayi
Lyrics : Pa Vijay
A Tamil version of the song ‘Chinnamma Chilakkamma’ from Rahman’s
soundtrack for the Hindi movie Meenaxi(2004). Though a repetitive
seranade from ARR, not disappointing. Benny sings very similar to Udit,
the singer of the original Chinnamma. But Benny beats udit with his
proper Tamil pronounciation. We could hear Udit’s humming at the ending
point of this song!. Benny’s adaptable voice eeks out his best at the
high pitch areas. Chinmayi in this song sounds very different from ‘I
miss you da’. Both the singers have given their maximum effort in this
song. Pa Vijay’s lyrics have perfectly fit this Andhra folk song. The
song begins like an old Telugu song played in a old philips radio.
Fantastic! One of ARR’s best folk numbers. The Andhra feel reminds us
‘Errani Kurrani’(Kadhalan) song. With the usage of folk instruments and
a few western equipment Rahman has challenged the kuthu song world!

5.Elay*
Singers: Krish ,Naresh Iyer
Lyrics : Na Muthukumar
Seems to be the ’soul’ song of this movie. Full of guitar sounds,
violin pieces and quick beats. Though the music is of the Rock genre,
the lyrics and violin gives us ‘at home’ feeling. A positive and
pleasant song which bridges east and west. Though a number of
instruments are used, nothing goes haywire. Wonderful orchestration and
coordination by ARR. In this song Muthukumar gains what he lost in ‘I
Miss you da’ song. The song ends by providing us a jazz feel. Krish and
Naresh sing exactly with the feel of south Indian boys. At times this
song reminds us ‘Roobaaroo’(Rang De Basanti). But the utilisation of
other instruments makes this song different.
6.Naan Epodhu
Singers: Reena Bharadwaj
Lyrics : Pa Vijay
Another reiteration from Meenaxi. The Same singer is called back. A
wonderful North Indian style song, with a lovely tune and guitar
interludes. Beautiful addition of effects at right times. Right choice
of voice. Totally an awesome song. But, this awesome song is stained by
the awkward pronounciation(Pen or pin??!!) of the singer. This is the
third female solo song of this album and the shortest one. Pa Vijay’s
romantic lyrics along with excellent instrumentation doesn’t fail to
create the intended swooning effect. A sweet song!

[arr] Sakkarakati sounds like it comes from the future!

2008-07-12 Thread vimaljk
and I mean that in a great way!...awesome soundtrack (Note: i'm not
talking about Naan Epodu and Chinnama...b/c those tracks are always
associated with Meenaxi for me...of course..Meenaxi is a masterpiece
as well!)

the remakes of Meenaxi help highlight just HOW innovative and
futuristic the other songs in the album are!

[arr] Re: #22

2008-07-12 Thread vimaljk
ARR deserves to win for Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na more than Jodhaa
Akbar..it's a better soundtrack AND immensely popular...in terms of
both brilliance and commercial success ..it's his best hindi album
since Rang De Basanti..plus the sogns were HUGE in making the movie a
success..the only way Jaane Tu..won't win is if Ghajini and/or Yuvraaj
make a bigger mark..which is always possible!

[arr] “I wanted my son to debut in a Shankar movie”

2008-07-12 Thread Mohd Nash
The Sakarakatti audio launch held at the Sathyam theatres registered a
near-full attendance of invitees; and significantly it brought 20 directors of
Tamil cinema in one stage. While Vikram and Susi Ganesan took a leave of
absence owing to their Kanthaswamy shoot schedules in Mexico, Radhika
Sharathkumar made a few heads turn with her entry.

First copy of the CD was released by Rama Narayanan and received together by
A R Rahman’s mother and Shanthanu’s mother and yesteryear actor Poornima
Bhagyaraj. Two songs were screened and the launch was peppered with emotional
speeches by a few directors.

After praising Shanthanu for his aerobics in the songs, Ameer wished him to fly
high in his career after the release of the movie. He further expressed his
longing to meet A R Rahman. “I have traveled far wide and met personalities;
however, I haven’t got an opportunity to visit Rahman at his home in Chennai.
It is my wish to visit him very soon,” he noted.

Jeyam Ravi revealed that he was earlier associated as an Assistant Director in
many movies produced by Dhanu. He further stated that Shanthanu has tremendous
networking skills and knows more people in the industry than him.

It was Bharathiraja who added zing to the event by expressing his longing and
desire for Rahman and his music. He said that it is wonderful to witness the
third generation in action and that Dhanu is a real crowd puller. After which,
he concentrated mostly on pulling pranks at Rahman revealing how difficult it
was to get tunes from him. “It is easier to extract milk from a tigress,”
Bharathiraja said.

Bharathiraja also declared that he would make Rahman act in one of his movies.
“His eyes are like Mono Lisa’s, beautiful and expressive. It would be such a
waste if I didn’t employ them in one of my movies. He is acting in one of my
movies,” Bharathiraja declared assertively.

A R Rahman, in his speech, mentioned that he was apprehensive to take up
Sakarakatti since he had no free time for another year at that time. “However,
director Prabhu already had five of my Hindi songs in mind and asked my consent
to use the tunes. We only selected two of them and the rest four are fresh
tunes,” Rahman said.

Bhagyaraj let a peek of fatherly anxiety by saying that he wanted his son to
debut either with Shankar or Maniratnam. “I was amazed at Prabhu’s talent of
story telling and didn’t have to think twice before sending Shantunu to the
sets of Sakarakatti,” he reminisced. “I was quite lucky in terms of my career,
maybe because my mother named me after luck. I wish the luck to continue in the
case of my son too,” Bhagyaraj said. He also requested Shanthanu to consider
new directors in his career unlike other established actors who think twice
before signing in for debutant directors’ ventures.

The two songs, Chinamma Chilakamma and Marudaani Vizhiyil, which were screened,
included extensive visual effects done by Soundarya Rajnikanth’s Ochar Studios.

[arr] Sakkarakatti review 2

2008-07-12 Thread Gopal Srinivasan
Sakkarakatti Soundtrack
by [EMAIL PROTECTED] (Suresh Kumar)‘God
Father’, ‘Jillunu Oru Kaadhal’, ‘Sivaji’, ‘Azhaghiya Tamizh Magan’ in
Tamil, ‘Guru’, ‘Jodha Akbar’, ‘Ada’, ‘Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Naa’ in Hindi
were Rahman’s works in recent past and with that you know the kind of
comparison I draw in here. I too agree that it is unfair to compare
chalk and cheese as the kind of movies Rahman chose to do in Hindi and
Tamil were totally different. But my problem is mainly with Rahman’s
choice of movies and then comes the quality of music. No doubt all the
aforementioned Tamil soundtracks were big hits but Um… Forget it.
Coming to ‘Sakkarakatti’

We have another sure-shot
winner from Rahman in ‘Sakkarakatti’ soundtrack which is full of Rahman
clichés. He kills a Tamil song again by using Madhusree; he explores
Chinmayi’s voice further in a song, the template of which is one of the
weirdest experimentations of Rahman in recent past, uses two of his
already released Hindi tracks from ‘Meenaxi’, composes a ultra cool
number with Blaaze’s rapping in between and it has a single word
repeated twice as its hooky phrase.

‘Yelae’ is the most
interesting song of the soundtrack. An instantly catchy guitar riff and
a flamboyant violin running across wildly in conversation with the
vocals, harmonica bits, the musicality of the word ‘Yelae’ and the
amount of casualness it brings to the mood of the song, the cool
singing of Krish and Naresh Iyer all put together makes ‘Yelae’ an easy
stand out of this soundtrack.

The one good thing about
listening to ‘Sakkarakatti’ is that it made me to revisit the
soundtrack of ‘Meenaxi’. ‘Meenaxi’ is so special to me because it was
the first ever soundtrack CD I bought after buying Philips 5 in 1
player. Aah… What an experience it was. It was a real stunning
soundtrack of Rahman and not so surprisingly it still is.

What I expect from Rahman is such a complete soundtrack, which Rahman once use
to dish out movie after movie in Tamil.

2008-07-12 Thread syednasar 2001

I wanted my son to debut in a Shankar movie”
Jul 12, 2008, 16:21

The Sakarakatti audio launch held at the Sathyam theatres registered a
near-full attendance of invitees; and significantly it brought 20 directors of
Tamil cinema in one stage. While Vikram and Susi Ganesan took a leave of
absence owing to their Kanthaswamy shoot schedules in Mexico, Radhika
Sharathkumar made a few heads turn with her entry.

First copy of the CD was released by Rama Narayanan and received together by A
R Rahman’s mother and Shanthanu’s mother and yesteryear actor Poornima
Bhagyaraj. Two songs were screened and the launch was peppered with emotional
speeches by a few directors.
After praising Shanthanu for his aerobics in the songs, Ameer wished him to fly
high in his career after the release of the movie. He further expressed his
longing to meet A R Rahman. “I have traveled far wide and met personalities;
however, I haven’t got an opportunity to visit Rahman at his home in Chennai.

The two songs, Chinamma Chilakamma and Marudaani Vizhiyil, which were screened,
included extensive visual effects done by Soundarya Rajnikanth’s Ochar
Studios.

Rahman to act in a Bharathiraja movie?
Jul 12, 2008, 16:10

Bharathiraja poured his heart out over the Sakarakatti audio launch and
expressed his longing to cast A R Rahman in one of his movies. In his
address during the audio launch held yesterday at the Sathyam theatres,
Bharathiraja declared that it was a difficult task to meet Rahman, leave
alone getting his tunes.

He's constantly flying between London, New York, and Paris. Getting his
tunes is equivalent to extracting milk from a tigress," Bharathiraja
revealed to the invitees at the launch. "Besides, he is blessed with
beautiful and expressive eyes which I would definitely put to use in one of
my movies," he added. Further, addressing Rahman he also reiterated that
Rahman would be a part of one of his movies in the near future. Rahman
acknowledged these comments with an occasional smile..

[arr] WORST way of interpretation

2008-07-12 Thread Thulasi Ram
m pasting the quoted lines that indiaglitz has in their article..

*
Speaking on the occasion, Rahman said, 'when Kalaprabhu approached me to
work in 'Sakkarakatti', I declined the offer as I was really busy. But
Kalaprabhu insisted that I should work in the movie'.*

we all have seen/heard what ARR had to sasy abt sakkarakkati. he spoke just
for 1min and 25 seconds BUT NEVER said anything as given in the lines below.

this is ridiculous and worst way of interpretation. ARR never said that he
had declined the offer. all these media persons seldom interpret stuff "AS
IS".. fed up with them. ARR had a great way of expressing about his feelings
towards re-used songs and that was never pointed out..*

How can you expect a song to be in some other voice? There ought to be
some reason. Did you know the story or read about it somewhere?

Otherwise how could you start expecting and now getting disappointed

Guys... please do not.. If you are not satisfied with this album..
you cannot be satisfied with any other good music. Just try to listen

I found the lyrics are the WOW factors in each tracks.

Believe it or not but Imran Khan starrer JAANE TU YA JAANE NAA has done
better than Aamir Khan starrer TAARE ZAMEEN PAR at the box office. While
both the films had a debutant director at the helm, Abbas Tyrewala has
scored bigger box office returns in it's first week (against LOVE STORY
2050) when compared to Aamir Khan whose TAARE ZAMEEN PAR was pitted against
WELCOME last year. Well, the numbers say it all. Read on.

When released on 21st December 2008, TAARE ZAMEEN PAR had taken a good
start, though not excellent, and went on to do steady business in its first
week. The film's first week collections read just a little over 16 crores
though good collections in weeks to follow meant that the film broke 60
crores barrier and went on to earn a blockbuster status for itself.

As things stand today, though it has to be seen whether JAANE TU YA JAANE
NAA would accomplish similar feat, first week's collections indicate great
box office outing for this film that has redefined the careers of Genelia
D'Souza and Manjari Fadnis.

The film has crossed 20 crores in one week flat while released on similar
print count as that of TAARE ZAMEEN PAR. Collections have been stupendous
all over, as a result of which the number of prints has been increased in a
major way resulting in increased shows due to heavy demand for the film.

Good news for the film is that JAANE TU... euphoria has continued well into
it's second week as well. With no competition at all in its second week, the
film is all set to gain from strength to strength and earn further crores
for itself.

Brand 'Aamir Khan' has worked. And how!

2008-07-12 Thread Mathan
yes... please do not start this sort of topics. I am just sick of it.
Please don't compare this with any other album and other MD's tracks.
Whatever it is try to enjoy it. If somebody not satisfied with this
album I am requesting them to wait for the next one.

I can only find lot of WOW FACTORS in each tracks, and I quit
satisfied with this musical treat. Eventhough two of the tracks with
old tunes. I love the lyrics too.

Re: [arr] Chennai Sakkarakatti CDs and Posters (Not yet released in Sg)

2008-07-12 Thread Srini

The music hasnt released yet in Singapore..

When I went asking a few shop guys said.. "whats this sir? atleast 3
people have asked for the cassette since morning and first I wondered
why are they asking for provisions in a music store!!. 2 shops said it
will take 2 weeks to arrive!!

I went to this ABR Trader(?) store (in serangoon road) and after a
similiar conversation.. the lady owner asked "whose the actor sir..
why is every1 asking for this today".. I told her forget the actor..
its Rahman.. then she ordered!! her husband to get the CD rightaway...
and she asked me to come back in 2 days..

So, people in Singapore.. try the CD on monday at this store (Pls dont
quote my name or this conversation;)

_
Cheers,
Srini
Are you searching for a reason to be kind?

[arr] I would love to hear Mardani in Hindi

2008-07-12 Thread V S Rawat
Mardani is one song whose beauty I could enjoy without getting deterred
by an unknown language.

So many different tunes in a single song. Seems some other MD would have
created 5 to 6 different songs using these different tunes, but guys,
this is the gesture of plenty that only our man can show that he gave
all these many tunes in a single song. Such hard work, such a creativity.

It sounds so soothing, so loving.

I would love to hear Mardani in Hindi.

Gops, please request ARR to re-use this song in some hindi album in future.

PremJee,

Why did it come as a surprise to you now? It was already disclosed in
this group almost a month ago and you had enough time to accept the
reality. Were you not checking the group's mail or have you joined recently?

Anyway. Keep accessing this group and you would come to know in advance
about inside information.

I personally don't think ARR would like to re-use his songs from one
language into other language. He must be knowing how disappointing it is
for his fans to rehear already heard music. he is creative and would
love to create new music every time. It must have been the rights owners
and the producers who want to cash on good music and make him do it. We
have to live with market's realities.

2008-07-12 Thread Thulasi Ram
yes ARR speech was so moving and it clearly shows how much he values
people's intention and the respect he has for his profession. in the world,
where people just lift others tunes and call it theirs and claim spot #2,
ARR is totally a pristine human being.

[arr] Sakkarakatti Audio Launch

2008-07-12 Thread Vithur
'Sakkarakatti' Audio Launch [Saturday, July 12, 2008]

The popular celebrities of Tamil gathered for the audio launch of
'Sakkarakatti', produced by Kalaipuli S Thanu.

The movie features Bhagyaraj's son Shanthanu and Vedika in the lead roles. A
R Rahman has scored the music and is directed by debutant Kala Prabhu, son
of Kalapuli S Thanu.

Speaking on the occasion, director-actor Bhagyaraj urged the actors to
respect assistant and associate directors.

'According to reports, a disturbing trend prevails in Kollywood today as the
popular actors are determined to do movies only for popular film-makers. Had
I not been encouraged by directors like Bharathiraja, I would not make it
this far. The talent matters and not the experience'.

The function was attended by K Balachander, Bharathiraja, Mahendran, Balu
Mahendra, S P Muthuraman, S A Chandrasekar, R Sunderarajan, P Vasu, Dharani,
Vikraman, K S Ravikumar, Murugadoss among others

The album has five songs which includes a couple of songs inspired by
Rahman's composition from his Hindi film Meenakshi (Chinama Chilakama).

Two songs were screened on the occasion. The first copy was released by
Rahman's mother and was received by the artistes and technicians of
'Sakkarakatti'.

Speaking on the occasion, Rahman said, 'when Kalaprabhu approached me to
work in 'Sakkarakatti', I declined the offer as I was really busy. But
Kalaprabhu insisted that I should work in the movie'.

Tamil Film Producer Council president Rama Narayanan also spoke on the
occasion

sure there r some flaws in her Tamil Diction. But hey, the singers u
mentioned couldnt create the magic that Madhushree can tru her voice.
while u could see the beauty of the music and tune, i see the beauty
of her voice... esp where she goes Maruthan. ... towards the ending

and yes, in Tamil, other music director has been able to bring the
best of Madhushree more than ARR. for instance Unakkul Naan -
Pachaikilimuthucara m, probably her best Tamil Diction song. Rasasiya
Kanavugal - Bheema another beautiful number. Her Eppo Nee - Kaalai was
a hit number, and yea, her magic scored there, eventhough some part
her diction was off.

and as for Maruthani... isnt it " Ade Poodi, THEIpalee"
