*Virtual fandom
Shouvik, a virtual fan from Hyderabad, thinks that being part of a fans
community online helps you procure a lot of resources, which will be
impossible as an individual. Plus it builds your contacts. He even designed
what he describes as "India's first community based fan club." Samata
Biswas, a researcher, feels that it is impossible for people with busy
schedules to be real time fans. "You don't know where these clubs are, how
to join, etc. Here you can just log in anytime and contribute."

For the 3,00,000 strong A R Rahman Fans community in Orkut, virtual space is
for meeting and organising. The community is used as a platform for the
planning of their outdoor activities, which include free food distribution
for the poor, concerts, and aid for the disabled kids. It also serves as a
platform for raising money for these charity works by selling Rahman tees,
Pray for me Brother colourbooks, etc. What this also says is that fan sites
have marketing potential which could be manipulated. *

[arr] For Rehman Sir.....My poem "Aazadi"

2008-08-19 Thread Vithur
Posted by Pradeep in orkut For Rehman Sir.My poem "Aazadi" Dariya mai
baha do ranjis sub
aub aman ki kuch baat ho jaaye..
mere desh main khushaali ho...
bus itminaan se mulaqat ho jaaye...

Ek anokhi khwahis si
saji jamin hai fursat se...
aub maati ke pehlu se...
kuch nai fasal-saugat ho jaaye...

Jub saare armaan dekh liye
kyun apne pyare khafa huwe...
aaj mili aazadi main...
fir Id-milan dustoor ho jaaye

Main sabra mai aaj dooba hun...
kuch door chalke roya hun
vajud ko apne dhundhu herdum...
main fir kahin jaake khoya hun...

Rait ke gharondo ko chodo...
aub toote sapno ko khojo
mere santh chalo nai awaz liye...
aaj fir ek khwab ek ummid ho jaaye

English Translation

Lets remove bad emotions just throw them on the sea
Lets talk something about peace
Hope happiness in my country
Lets introduce ourself thats a key

With a different desire...
Motherland looks beautiful...
>From the soul of the dust...
Lets have green grounds cause thats a need...

We saw all the hopes...
Don know why dears are not happy...
today we got independence...
Lets have Id togather cause thats a meet

Today I am in deep in waiting
I weep after little walking...
Always find myself in the world
I m lost after some where going...

Just leave Sand's house
now search your broken dreams...
Take a new voice, come with me
Today, lets have a new hope- some new dreams

For Rahman SirMy Next Poem "Maa" Lehraati faslon ki tarah,
Basant ki ritu ki tarah,
Chandan si thandak liye-
Tu mere saamne he hai...

Tu ehsaas hai parindon ke udne ka...
Tu ehsaas hai nadiyon ke machalne ka...
Tu aasman hai meri her ummid ka...
Tu mere saamne he hai

Aaj mai kuch door chala hun...
Aaj chand ko khojne laga hun...
Tu khayal hai, mere ek aaftab sa...
Tu mere saamne he hai

Bikhare tinkon si zindagi hai...
Her din nai maut nai bandagi hai...
Tu roshni si hai kaali raaton mai...
Tu mere saamne he hai...

Maa tu khamosh hai tufaanon mai...
Maa tu Aks hai ujiyaron mai...
Tu thami mere liye chhattano si...
Tu mere saamne he hai...
Maa
Herdum Tu mere saamne he hai

English Translation...

"My Mother"

Like plants are swinging in the wind...
Like weather of spring
With coolness of sandal...
You are in front of me.

You are a feeling like I am flying bird
You are a feeling like a River's run
You are the Sky of all my hopes
You are in front of me.

Today I walk for some mile...
Today I am searching moon in the earth...
You are my thought like a sun
You are in front of me.

Life is like some particles
Everyday like a new death and prey...
You like a candle in dark nights
You are in front of me.

Mother you are silent in storms...
Mother you are a shadow in lights
You are steady like a rock anywhere
You are in front of me.
Mother! Always you are in front of me.

[arr] It's Hollywood calling for singer Sukhwinder Singh

2008-08-19 Thread Vithur
Sukhwinder Singh has hit it the big, as the singer is working on
international projects with filmmakers Danny Boyle and Steven Spielberg.

Sukhwinder now has two full fledged major Hollywood projects to his name -
the first being Danny Boyle's *Slumdog Millionaire* starring Anil Kapoor and
Irfan Khan with music by AR Rahman and lyrics by Gulzar.

"It's a very innocent song, but it's also energetic and stylish. When you
hear the beginning, you will feel that you have started some *bhajan*, it's
a soothing number with a style element," says Sukhwinder about the song *Jai
Ho* from the movie.

Sukhwinder also has an offer to sing for Steven Spielberg's new film
starring Denzel Washington. Though details of the Spielberg project are
under wraps, Sukhwinder will be singing a traditional folk Kutchi song.

"The song is based on a situation in Kutch in Gujarat. I have already done
the vocals and have sent it to them. They have liked it, so let's see what
happens," he adds.

Re: [arr] Should Rahman Publish his autobiography in Future?

2008-08-19 Thread Matthew Islam
Nasreen told me a few months back that the book was still on. She's working
on it as we speak but I personally think it will take a lot of time to
finish. AR is a hard man to sit down for long periods for stuff that doesn't
concern work because there is so little time he has to himself.

If I get an update, will let you guys know.

Oh and her full name is Nasreen Munni Kabir. A genius of sorts on the
history of Bollywood and Indian Films past, present and future. Now her most
famous work is SRK's documentary that she directed called Inner and Outer
World of Shahrukh Khan. She also is a fulltime contributer to Channel 4 in
the UK. She is a sweet person and I would think the best person to document
AR's life if it were to happen. I was personally pushing, like a million
others, for her to do a documentary but AR was less inclined on it...

Be well and Take Care.

[arr] Talent is not Age Dependent says Rashid Ali

2008-08-19 Thread Vithur
Living in London, did you get to estimate how much of a rage Kabhi Kabhi
Aditi from Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na would turn out to be?
Although I'm based in London, I travel a lot to India and have many contacts
there. And in today's time of Internet boom, topographical difference can
hardly be a dampener. Besides, there are many satellite Asian channels,
which play Bollywood music. And Aditi is not the only song that I had sung
in the film, there's also Kahin to. Earlier too, I had sung a number, Ishq
Ada Hai in the film, Ada. So, it's not that I'm clueless about how my songs
are doing. I also made it a point to catch the flick.

What was the response to your first playback, Ishq Ada Hai?
Ishq Ada Hai was recorded seven years back as AR was looking for a
singerwho
could sing in a
totally different style. In addition, AR essentially wanted an acoustic and
organic feel to the song. He asked me to play some guitar and I started
experimenting with what became the intro. He wanted an intense effect to the
voice and suggested that style. I was glad that song was chosen for the
promo of the film and found its way to the top five in many charts. I'm
pleased that both this song and Kabhi Kabhi Aditi were the first songs on
each of the respective albums.

Was a career in music a natural choice, since your mother carved a niché for
herself in the world of classical music?
My mother was a ghazal singer but she would regularly perform lighter music.
She successfully recorded some albums in UK, one of which featured Ustad
Ghulam Mustafa's compositions. As far as I'm concerned, I broadened my
outlook in music having adapted to many genres in Western, Asian and World
music. Thankfully, I've also gained a lot of experience in studio work as
well as by performing live with many musicians — playing Jazz gigs to Arabic
music. Having recognized my ethnicity, I also listened to many Indian
artistes whilst growing up.

You had worked with Rahman on the Bombay Dreams project and had been part of
the troupe for a while as a guitarist, before this big break. How did the
two of you come together?
I met AR at a concert in UK, seven years ago. The initial conversation was
completely about my mother, Farida Ali's connection with Ustad Ghulam
Mustafa Khan, since he had worked on her ghazal album in UK and also about
my love for Jazz music.

You started off as a guitarist and then emerged as a singer...
>From the beginning, AR knew I was also a singer. It just took time for
tracks like Ishq Ada Hai to surface. India is looking for new sounds and
styles — now is a good time to be in Bollywood.

When you chatted Rahman up, were you aware of his iconic status?
At that point of time, I did not know too much about AR's projects, other
than the fact that he had given music for Bombay, Rangeela and Taal.

You are 42 and yet sound like a 20-something in Aditi. Has age got nothing
to do with how one sounds?
Talent is not age-dependent. I do naturally have a young voice, since I do
look after my voice and myself.

Having given a smash hit, would you now like to pursue Bollywood seriously?
Since I am a singer, I feel that I would like to pursue any projects, which
will highlight my abilities. Bollywood is an important part in the spectrum
of entertainment. Besides this, I hope to further showcase myself as a
guitarist and composer.

What's keeping you busy at the moment?
Right now, I am working on my own album which will be produced by AR
Rahman's own music label. I am the first one to be signed on by him. I want
India to discover not just Rashid Ali's voice but also what his own music
and guitar playing is about. There's no denying one thing — Rashid Ali is
here to stay.

Guys,

Let's have an insight into our music tastes. Go deep into the psyche ad come
out with one song you consider to be purely divine in nature. It could be any
song and it is also very personal. Often Rahman says that the song comes from
above and that he is just an instrument. So let me start of this discussion
with my personal favourite

MUNBE VAA ( SILLUNU ORU KADHAL )

I know it is many of your favourites. Well, it is not mine. It is not just my
favourite, rather i would say it is my lifeline. The more I listen to this
song, the more I feel rejuvenated. Till today I consider this song straight
from heavens where I imagine the gandharvas playing in the skies and that
Rahman has brought this for the earthlings. No matter how much I write about
this song, I feel empty. I like to speak about this song, listen to this song
and devour this brilliance. Last week a north Indian friend of mine comes up to
me and asks for this song. Being a bit possessive about this song, I was
reluctant to share in the beginning. But the divine nature of this song caught
up in me and pushed me into passing the song to him. Such is the power of this
song. My friend, who doesnt have any idea of tamil, is taken aback by the
composition. I am only glad to exlplain the lyrics and the situation in the
movie. I am blessed

Thanks

Sujith

[arr] Another version of Sakkarakatti's 'Taxi song' filmed

2008-08-19 Thread Vithur
Another version of Sakkarakatti's 'Taxi song' filmed IndiaGlitz
[Tuesday, August 19, 2008]

Ever since A.R. Rahman's masterful compositions for the film 'Sakkarakatti'
was released, all the songs have been making waves literally. Clearly
'Sakkarakatti' the launch vehicle of debutante Santanoo had A.R. Rahman's
compositions as the USP of the film. To match with the splendorous mirth of
the songs debutante director Kalaprabhu has made it a point to match up with
brilliant visualization.

The song 'Taxi' sung by Blaze has come out in such an impressive manner that
the filmmakers have decided to shoot one more version for the song and
reports suggest that both versions will feature in the film.

'Sakkarakatti' will mark the debut of two star kids. Hero Santanoo is the
son of veteran actor-director K. Bhagyaraj while Kala Prabhu is the son of
producer Kalaipuli S. Dhanu.

[ARR] Sajni Background Score

2008-08-19 Thread kishore parayath
I heard that for SAJNI music (KANNADA), ARR didnt take any remuneration, and
it was free. It was more like, Sajni..MUSIC: COURTESY- AR RAHMAN ...and not
MUSIC DIRECTOR: AR RAHMAN...
Someone else directed the singers to sing the tunes of JODI..

In that case, I would like to know about the background score of SAJNI
Who had scored the BGMs
