[arr] Decade’s top words:‘Jai ho’ has been ranked 16

2009-11-23 Thread A.R.Rajib
Most influentialDecade’s top words: Global warming, ObamaNew York, Nov 22,
(PTI):
*Global warming, 9/11, and Obama have been named the top words of the decade
by a group that studies usage and has also listed the period’s leading
phrases and names that include Indian terms Bollywood, ‘slumdog’ and ‘jai
ho’.*

The top words named by the Global Language Monitor (GLM) are global warming,
9/11, and Obama followed by bailout, evacuee, derivative, Google, surge,
Chinglish, and tsunami. *Twenty-first on the list is the word ‘slumdog’,
popularised by the Oscar-winning film ‘Slumdog Millionaire’.*

*The catchword of the film’s popular song ‘Jai ho’ has been ranked 16 in the
top phrases of the decade while the term Bollywood the 17th top name in the
list.*
Other entries in the top words list are H1N1, misunderestimate (one of the
first and most enduring of Bushisms), Twitter and blog.

The top phrases of the decade are climate change, financial tsunami, war on
terror (Bush administration’s response to 9/11), swine flu, king of pop,
stay the course (Bush’s off-stated guidance for Iraq war) and ‘Yes, we can!’
(Obama’s winning campaign slogan). The top names are Heroes (emergency
responders who rushed into the twin towers after 9/11), Osama bin Laden,
Dubya (George Bush’s nickname), Taliban, Katrina, Tiger Woods, Saddam
Hussein, and Facebook.

“Looking at the first decade of the 21st century in words is a sober, even
sombre, event,” says GLM’s chief word analyst Paul J J Payack. “For a decade
that began with such joy and hope, the words chosen depict a far more
complicated and in many ways, tragic time. Nevertheless, signs of hope and
renewal can be found in the overall lists,” he says.

The words were culled from throughout the English-speaking world, which now
numbers more than 1.58 billion speakers. The survey encompassed the years
2000-2009, and the expanded lists include 25 top words, 20 top phrases and
20 top names.

The analysis was completed on November 16 using GLM’s predictive quantities
indicator, the proprietary algorithm that tracks words and phrases in the
media and on the Internet. The words are tracked in relation to frequency,
contextual usage and appearance in global media outlets, factoring in
long-term trends, short-term changes, momentum and velocity.

Dear All,

December 1st, 2008 was the sad day , when Mr. H Sridhar, the astounding Sound
Engineer passed away . This year Dec 1st falls on Tuesday. We a group of Fan
members were thinking, as to why not spend a day with an orphanage in Chennai,
sponsor them special lunch.

So, we have tentatively thinking of spending next Sunday in an orphanage in
West Mambalam, Chennai. We shall sponsor special lunch for the kids there and
dedicate the day for Mr. Sridhar.

More details to follow...

Re: [arr] My comments on Jai ho Kolkata

2009-11-23 Thread naztitude
Singing tamil songs also means giving the Bengalis a chance to listen to some
awesome numbers which they wold have never otherwise... I have got three email
requests asking me for the FRENCH RAP song... Called Taxi Taxi! Felt good to
know so!
Singing Hindi versions over Tamil versions may not be the best option.
Chandralekha sounds best in Tamil, known fact. Hence. The other songs were in
Hindi only.
Chandralekha in Hindi did not sound too good in Delhi..the tamil portions were
way better.
ARR's speciality is his improvisations.. and he does them with style!
especially raagas and aalaps.. there is so much fun hearing a new version! The
CD is always there for the original.
One could see how much fun AR had while singing Fiqrana... He was into it! The
way he was touching the "Fiqrna" notes... he was so enjoying it! let's give
it him..he created the song... will post the entry video soon..forgetting
lyrics is a part of the live show business..and that's another beauty..how ARR
can hum it off or alaap it off! I totally enjoy the live act! :)
Mausan and escape start was nothing but some jamming session..to create a build
up for the act to follow..
Rehna tu.. he usually hums the entire continuum, those who attended the
previous shows must be familiar..this time he played the harmonica on it..
something unusual.. sounded good..maybe vocally he went off and came back at
some places..but was a good performance.. he would actually touch higher notes
in this song...
Naveen was there for the bombay theme..the singers were not there..and this was
only to support the Visual credits on the LEDs..
This concert AR actually opened up..u hardly hear him shout and say "Welcome
Kolkata...this is the Jai ho o o o o concert!" ;) and he also spoke on and
off and in between two songs!! And he had some energy in Khalbali! Must mention
that!!
Rajib...coming all the way to the concert must have been fun and worth it!
There are still so many fans in group and otherwise who have not had the good
fortune of seeing him live. Enjoy the moments.
Appreciate how u write about the show, but to just let u know, after having
seen enough shows.. improvisations, mistakes, lyrical errors are part of the game.
If u could not hear the song, then it's a complain, for sure!! But that you
could hear improvised versions of the alaaps, the sounds were fine, right!? :)

Rajib, when you go to a concert, you are expected to knw what to expect and not
the other way aroundif i went for a u2 or an aerosmith concert, i dont
expect to know all the songs though they are in english..i just go for the love
of the artiste and the love of music,.

The alaap in kehna hi kya has akways been an improvised version...also the
start of fiqrana was awesome with ar asking the crowd in the voice modulator if
they were enjoying the concertnajeef, can you post that bit for everyones
benefit?

My comments on A.R.Rahman's Jai ho concert @SaltLake Stadium,Kolkata,India

  14th November,2009

I did my Passport ,visa just to attend this concert (Let's not say how much
struggle i had to doto get my passport & visa done, just to make dis writing
shorter)

I dint had any passport . .as i never went outside Bangladesh,no Place ever
attracted me that much to visit it(even inside BD) ,may be i was waiting for
something special like this one. So,here I am. . .new country, new city,
Outside of motherland for the first time. . .just to see Mr. Allaha Rakha
Rahman for the first time.Luckily language and the huge number of relatives
was a plus point here, otherwise it would have been impossible for me to
attend dis Concert.

Ok,let's start da main part of this writing, which is describing the whole
Concert in MY WAY. . .at first the cheking wasnt enough, there was no metal
detector or anything like that,no one even hand searched anyone, which was
very risky in my view, thankfully therz no mishap :-)

I hated the starting portion of some organaizer ppl's speech, expected
Sourav Ganguly to be there, but later thanked him not to be there as that
saved our precious time

@6:45pm . . ARR came up on stage with a lift singing . . Jaage hain. . .i
found it too repetitive . . Saw this kinda entry with this perticuler song
in many of his concerts . . .there are huge number of masterpieces to
replace this one. . .but his performance rocked in it !!

Then . . .khalbali . . Same with it. . .repetative but performance rocked. .
Audience just gone crazy after this

*Singing tamil songs in West bangla was a BIG MISTAKE* , it was like a
foreign film without subtitle to atleast 95 % of them present there,i loved
Atthiradi . . As i was a huge fan of dis powerpacked song, but west bangla
Audience couldnt just relate to it,only i was shouting the song from the
crowd, and i could see ppl were in a shock, they never heard of this and
allmost all tamil tracks (that is what i felt being there, and being a
bengali. . .forgive me if therz any exception). . .when i was singing all
tamil songs, ppl around me was looking at me weirdly, may b wondering how this
long haired boy can sing in this weird language,as they heard me talking in
bangla as well [?] . . . A Big thanks from my side to arr for performing
tamil tracks in kolkata. . .but mass people dint like it.

Hariharan's Nahin samne stole hearts of Classical lovers of west bangla, saw
one old guy beside me enjoyin it fully. .. . I dnt need to comment on
Hariharan's performance at concerts. . .he is always perfect.

Delhi6 title track and then jiya se jiya made the mass crowd cheer up after
nahin samne. . .but there was some mistakes in both these tracks, happens in
a live performance . . Nevamind.

Then lady lush came with killer dancing performance with Liquid dance . .
Audience (including me) were in shock to see this kinda dance in a ARR
concert,it was just WOW . .

Then the Bangla track "Ekla cholo" . . I knew it will b played here. .
.thought Nachiketa ,the main singer of the Bangla part of dis song would b
there, ppl would just love it. . He is da ARR of west bangla. . .but Javed
ali was more than perfect in accent and singing both sonu & nachiketa's
part. . One of the most loved track of dis concert

Sadhna ji started with Kehna hi kya . . I was very happy. .. . The dancers
behind set da environment there, then sadhna ji's singing . . Awesome stuff.
. .but ARR's performance in those "sa re ga ma" part was bad . . He forgot
it totally, and managed to complete it being totally away from the original
part, i dint like it,i am a huge fan of dat part of dis song. . .then it was
again sadhna ji with jiya jale. . Her performance rocked . .and it's one of
da most populer track of ARR in both Bangla. . So u can imagine the
exitement.

I also didnt like Arr's Fiqrana performance, and the music was nowhere close
to the original. . .arr forgot the lyrics in someplace, sang out of tune in
someplace. . .I think it was perfect @ reharsel,as far as i can remember. .
Dnt knw how they messed up with it the next day. . .the sound system was
also at it's best at reharsel . . .bt @ the concert. . .there was indeed
some problems [?][?][?]
Sometimes there was some bad sounds, and in one place arr's singing was not
audible at all . .

But his Dil se just rocked. . . He was @ top

Saregama to release AR Rahman's Couples Retreat soundtrack Story
By:Businessofcinema.com
Teamupdated on:Nov 23, 2009
MUMBAI: A.R. Rahman makes his first foray into composing music for an
American comedy feature film with Universal Pictures' forthcoming romantic
comedy, Couples Retreat. The soundtrack will be released via Saregama India
digitally and in all retail outlets nationwide on 30 November.

For Couples Retreat, Rahman has conjured up the sounds of a tropical island
oasis fusing the laid-back rhythms of island music. Rahman created a score
that complements the film’s light-hearted tone with a hint of his signature
Indian sound.

"There are so many musical avenues to be explored. I've wanted to try new
things and for a long time and had hoped to have the opportunity to venture
into American comedy. This film presented a lot of creative challenges and
was deeply rewarding to be a part of ," says Rahman.

Couples Retreat is directed by Peter Billingsley and stars Vince Vaughn,
Jason Bateman, Jon Favreau, Malin Akerman, Kristin Davis, Kristen Bell and
Faizon Love.

Oh! my God! The Legend's First Anniversary.

Vithurji I am so unlucky that I can't participate in the activity. No issues.
Next Rahmanji birthday is coming. So we should celebrate his birthday on 3rd
January 2010(Sunday).
Because 06-January-2010 is Wednesday(Working day).

I want to participate in the music entertainment for the orphanage kids. I know
you would have already planned. Please post the schedule.

Why this mail thread is extending for just an unnecessary debate "Who is senior
and Who is junior", It can be better put up like this, "Am I a active member of
this group".

Vithur ji,

Please don't list anyone's name. Everyone is an ardent fan of Rahmanji(You use
to reply, whenever we say you are a great fan of ARR). I request you to cut
down the thread by replying once.

And Mercury UK put their money where their mouth was - for the re-release of
Goldspot’s “Tally of the Yes Men,” Mercury UK sent Sid and producer Jeff
Peters to Chennai to work with the orchestra of Bollywood musical
heavyweight A.R. Rahman. The collaboration of the two with Srinavas Murthy,
orchestral director of Rahman’s AM Studio in Chennai was the breath of life
that was needed for the second incarnation of “Tally of the Yes Men.” The
three redid the arrangements for Friday, Rewind, The Guard
