giving him the best scores Mani cant resist himself but devour all those

Mumbai: AR Rahman is scaling one milestone after
another. The 'Mozart of Madras' performed at the White House in front
of President Barack Obama and Indian PM Manmohan Singh to mark the
latter's three-day visit to the US.


He sang two tracks --Jai Ho and Dreams on Fire -- from his Oscar-winning movie 
Slumdog Millionaire. 


As
part of an initiative by the government authorities, Rahman performed
with Indian and western artistes to welcome Singh in the US. 


A
source said, "It was an electrifying performance celebrating
brotherhood between India and the US. Rahman set the mood for Manmohan
Singh's three-day visit to the US. High level government officials of
both countries witnessed this performance."

Rahman has a great
fan following in the US. "He was the best person to have during this
crucial meeting of the two country's heads. There were bhangra performers too 
at the event. Rahman also teamed up with musician Taku
Hirano with whom he had performed at Time magazine's gala event that
had crowned the 100 Most Influential people of the world in New York
City."

Rahman, Gulzar to be felicitated at IFFK


Panaji, Nov 26 (PTI) Oscar-winning trio A R Rahman, Resul
Pookutty and lyricist Gulzar will be facilitated at the
International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK), where veteran
actress Sharmila Tagore will be the guest of honour.

FFK Director K R Mohanan said that the artistes will be
honoured at the inauguration ceremony of the festival, which
begins from December 11.

Veteran filmmaker Mrinal Sen has also been invited to the
festival and a retrospective of his films will be held during
the event.

Retrospectives of Mexican director Arturo Ripsten,
Japanese director Mikio Naruse, French filmmaker Jacques Tati
and Malayalam director Lohitadas will also be held.

Mohanan, who is here for International Film Festival
of India, said a major attraction this year would be the
constitution of a lifetime achievement award in international
cinema, which will carry a cash prize of Rs two lakh.

has lost their lives in the terrorist attack.but at the same time,there is no 
point in mingling the terrrorist attack with ARR's visit to White house..i 
dunno why ,just an simple and proud matter becomes sentimental and being 
diverted to another level which is totally unnecessary..as Mr.ravi 
said.hoardings or banners cant stop terrorism...i find it absolute nonsense 
when people fight with hoardings when it"s absolutely a "culture" formed 
somewhere..what is the use did we ever find any PERMANENT solution for

AR has gone from representing love through his music. If love is in every heart 
there can be no fight and if no fight no terrorism. Isnt that we can think in a

Dear Cartoonist,

As you know the year 2009 was an eventful one
for the Kerala Cartoon Academy. This year we exhibited 123 cartoon and
caricatures of Dr Manmohan Singh by 123 cartoonists in different parts
of the world, in the backdrop of the Indo-US nuclear deal, and also to
mark the 25th anniversary of the Academy.
The works have also been compiled in the form of a book.

This
year, the KCA is planning an exhibition of Elephant Cartoons and also
the caricatures of Oscar winners Resool Pookutty and A R Rahman, to
salute the talented Indians and their achievement globally.

We
are planning to 50 caricatures each of Resool and Rahman, which would
be exhibited in December. As of now, we have collected 50 Resool
Pookutty caricatures from 50 cartoonists. We would like to thanks the

Hmm,
I don't think titan tune was composed by Rahman. It is a Mozart composition 
(25th symphony or 5th symphony or something) which i think he merely 
reproduced. Learned people, please confirm.

“I had no plans of dubbing my Tamil films in Hindi. It was only after
the success of Roja that I toyed with the idea of releasing films in
Hindi,” said filmmaker Mani Ratnam.

Speaking at the sidelines of
National Film Development Corporation's (NFDC) Film Bazaar at
International Film Festival in Panaji, Mani Ratnam said, “The success
of Roja and Bombay took me from one to another.”

Even after two-and-a-half decades of writing and directing films, I still 
struggle on climax, he candidly admitted.

Mani,
who introduced the likes of A R Rahman to filmdom, said that his aim is
to make a song-less movie in Bollywood. “Though I like songs and dance,
I would love experiment by doing a film without them,” he said. Mani
Ratnam is currently directing Ravana, a movie starring Abhishek
Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai in lead roles. It has music by Rahman.

The ever-youthful legendary lyricist Vaali is surely a man to be
celebrated. He has just finished writing his 5000th song for Shankar’s
‘Endhiran’. Whatta massive achievement, we say!

“Little beetle leaf, beetle nut, few papers and a pen this is what I need to 
start writing a poem,” says the great man naively.

“My
childhood passion was to become an artist. There was a popular artist
called Maali who was working in Vikatan then. One of my close friends
named me Vaali after that artist and told that I would become popular
like the artist one day,” revealed the poet whose original name is
Rangarajan.

It was TMS who invited Vaali to Chennai and cinema.
Vaali became a household name when MGR was in his career’s peak. “I
penned ‘Machchana’ Pathingala while I was working for ‘Oodum
Mehangaley’ and ‘Naan Aanaiyittal’ songs meant for MGR. Same way I gave
‘Chikku Bhukku Rayiley’ for Rahman, then went on to give ‘Thathai
Thathai’ for Yuvan,” says the poet with pleasure.

The 78-yr old
Youngster’s songs were loved by the people of 4 generations. Yet the
man is not outdated, he can still write kinky duets and give lyrics for
peppy youthful songs.

Yeah pratap! guessed so. You dont have exclusive channel by channel mixing, 
surround sound has channel overlaps. Do please send across the Punjabi rap and 
electro beats that come during the bike chase scene etc. Some BGMs rocked, but 
i did not have the courage to watch the film again. It was just plain dull dud!

Dude. Lot of leaks man!, its 75% A capellas in most places Did you extract it 
out of a CD/lossless or some R5 print/rip with AC3 in 5.1? 
Nonetheless useful ones.

“India and Hungary are very close to each other”
Almost 900 film scores, 5000 film songs, countless discs — a dizzy amount of 
work stands behind IlaiyaRaaja. The most wanted composer of the Indian film 
industry is a relatively frequent guest in Hungary: as friend and as colleague, 
he is in touch with several Hungarian jazz musicians, from time to time he also 
resorts to the help of the Miskolc Symphony Orchestra. He has recently been to 
Budapest again.

One tries to imagine Indian film composers very rarely, but still: we had 
imagined IlaiyaRaaja exactly like this. Bright eyes, friendly face and the 
obligatory glasses. He received amicably the journalists of Népszabadság in an 
elegant, stylish hotel room, after offering them a seat, he almost disappeared 
in a giant armchair. During the conversation there was a bleak smile on his 
face, even when we were asking him about his ex-disciple, the composer to the 
soundtrack of Slumdog Millionaire, A. R. Rahman and his success in Hollywood, 
or about Rahman at all. Smiling and correct, he refused to answer by saying 
everybody can do what he’d like to do, and well, it wouldn’t be elegant to talk 
about a fellow. “And anyway, would a Hungarian journalist talk about other 
Hungarian journalist colleagues?”, he asked, and it could be seen he was sure 
of getting a negative answer.

Right from this saw we that IlaiyaRaaja doesn’t know the Hungarian, to a bit 
extended level: the European press relations. Which is, however, a good thing.

The most productive composer of the Indian film industry came to Budapest to do 
the post-production of his newest film score which had been recorded in July 
with Miskolc Symphony Orchestra conducted by László Kovács, the mixing was done 
at the Hungarian Radio’s studio with the help of Dénes Rédly, sound engineer. 
But why had he chosen a Hungarian symphony orchestra for the records? The two 
countries are fairly far away from each other…

“India and Hungary are actually very close to each other, the national 
tricolors differ only in one tone of color,” he answered laughing, but then 
turned to talk seriously: he thinks Hungarian musicians can compete anytime 
with other countries’ artists. In his homeland there are no symphony orchestras 
at all. In Chennai where he lives, there are excellent musicians playing on 
strings, playing on wind instruments but they’re never organized to one 
orchestra: setting up this kind of ensembles has no tradition there.

When IlaiyaRaaja had been in Budapest around 2000, he had gotten to know Attila 
László jazz guitarist-composer. He had liked the compositions of László so much 
that he had asked him to work together. In August, this year the Hungarian 
composer traveled to Chennai with Béla Lattman, bassist and János Nagy, pianist 
to play for the recording of the Indian master’s 882th film score.

A series of coincidences had led IlaiyaRaaja to the profession of music, for 
that later his goal could be defined: once he would be music director. When he 
had stepped into the field of film-making, composing had had just a functional 
role in the Indian film industry, there had been far less spiritual content, 
and the variety of music had had much room for improvement, too. This probably 
had derived from the working method of composers, indeed from the relations 
among musicians. Raaja had found something important for him in Western music, 
he had started to play the guitar, the piano and the violin, and he had been 
the first to use Western instruments, indeed unknown genres in his 
compositions. Just to mention some examples, pop, jazz, rock and roll, bossa 
nova and flamenco had gained grounds on the Indian screen by his work. And it’s 
not an irrelevant feat of arms that he had been the first Asian artist to 
compose a symphony for the London Philharmonic Orchestra.

Raaja said, in the beginning, if something hadn’t worked out as he had wanted 
it, he had become impatient with his musicians. Afterwards, by more and more 
spirituality moving into his compositions, this gradually had disappeared.

When asking him about the method of composing — by thinking that a work of life 
like his (more than 5000 film songs and almost 900 complete film scores are 
signed by his name) is a result of an effective method of composing — he 
answered: composing is not a question of will or ambition for him. It doesn’t 
need to be that.
