2009-11-27 Thread Sath Murthy
Late Jeeva did direct the film 13B. Vikram Kumar directed yaavarum nalam with
Madhavan in lead.

If this film is produced by Mohan Natarjan, then it may have the possibility of
ARR's music, becoz KSR- ARR - Vikram were supposed to come together for Mohan's
project. KSR opted out of it, citing the story reasons.

Lets see.

[arr] What iF Score Picks: Couples Retreat

2009-11-27 Thread $ Pavan Kumar $
http://www.ifmagazine.com/feature.asp?article=3586

* COUPLES RETREAT: After his Oscar-winning splash on SLUMDOG
MILLIONAIRE,
it seems only natural that Indian music superstar A.R. Rahman should go
Hollywood for a romantic comedy. And Rahman throws himself into this
fun COUPLES RETREAT with tropical abandon, proving he can do
slapstick boopity-boo stuff as well as the next American guy. But what
helps separate this RETREAT from other generic soundtrack
resorts is Rahman’s talent for lush string arrangements and
infectiously danceable songs, both of which this album has in
abundance. His orchestral music is as lush as the tropical blue seas,
with upbeat island grooves and a rousingly romantic main theme. Topping
off the mix is “Sajna,” which Rahman performs along with Blaaze and
Vivian Chaix. It might not be “Jai Ho,” but the groove is as smooth as
a Pina Colada on a hot day at the Antigua Sandals.

[arr] [non-ARR] Wake Up Sid BGM and Paa

2009-11-27 Thread Jahanzeb
I watched Wake Up Sid the other day and was very impressed by the BGM. It only
rarely happens that I see credits after watching the movie to see who was the
BGM composer, and it happened this time. Those who don't know, it has BGM by
Amit Trivedi. I must say very intelligent composing by him. In places so
mesmerizing and overall suiting wonderfully with the scenes. I see this man
going places.

The other album I liked very much is Paa by Ilaiyaraaja. Man this man got his
own style. His music may not include many instruments like our man but it is so
soothing and there is something about it which is hard to explain. I liked Gumm
Summ Gumm Summ, Hichki Hichki and Halke Se Bole in particular. Early before Paa
I got to listen his music for Cheeni Kum and liked it too a lot. I have one
question from you guys, is this completely fresh music by him in Cheeni Kum and
Paa or he re-used some of his earlier (Tamil) compositions??

Somethings remind me of a Japanese proverb:
"If others can do it, you can also do it for sure. If others fail to do it, why
not you give a try and succeed."

In contrast to that I see few with the mentality
"If others are able to do it, I think I can do it better than those, why do it
instead let me speak about it."

In fact, in one interview, Mani said that for yuva he informed AR that there
wont be any songs..and only BGMs.. But after AR created the score of Sandha
kozhi ( kabhi neem neem ), Mani felt that the score is too good and decideed to
have one song..And the same thing happened 5 times and it became 6 songs :)

http://bit.ly/8nONMs

CHENNAI: Oscar-winning music composer A R Rahman will soon compose a
theme song for the Tamil Nadu Police as part of its 150-year
celebrations.

Rahman, who is currently abroad, is expected to begin work on this project once
he returns home.

The
Tamil Nadu police had reportedly approached the musician to compose
music for a documentary on Tamil Nadu Police much before he won his
Academy Awards. After winning the awards, Rahman had opted out of the
project because of time constraints, but has committed to compose the
Tamil Nadu Police’s theme song, a senior police source said.

The
documentary about the Tamil Nadu Police, however, will be released on
November 30 by Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, at the inauguration of the
national seminar on Road Safety and Urban Traffic Management.

The two-day seminar has been organised by the Tamil Nadu Police from November
30, as part of its sesquicentennial celebrations.

An
exhibition of various equipment used for road safety and traffic
management is also being organised. During the valedictory function of
the seminar, a coffee-table book chronicling the 150 years of the Tamil
Nadu Police, ‘The Pioneer Peacekeepers’ will be released by Governor
Surjit Singh Barnala.

Roja took me to Bollywood

http://bit.ly/ 4W7Syn

“I had no plans of dubbing my Tamil films in Hindi. It was only after
the success of Roja that I toyed with the idea of releasing films in
Hindi,” said filmmaker Mani Ratnam.

Speaking at the sidelines of
National Film Development Corporation' s (NFDC) Film Bazaar at
International Film Festival in Panaji, Mani Ratnam said, “The success
of Roja and Bombay took me from one to another.”

Even after two-and-a-half decades of writing and directing films, I still
struggle on climax, he candidly admitted.

Mani,
who introduced the likes of A R Rahman to filmdom, said that his aim is
to make a song-less movie in Bollywood. “Though I like songs and dance,
I would love experiment by doing a film without them,” he said. Mani
Ratnam is currently directing Ravana, a movie starring Abhishek
Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai in lead roles. It has music by Rahman.
