Re: [ARR] VTV
VTV is a very special album for me too, despite me not knowing a word of Tamil. There is something quite spiritual about this album that I can't really describe further. There's a very nice range of music and the sound quality is crisp and top notch. The orchestration is beautiful and even the faster, techno numbers are intelligently created with exceptional rhythm and crafty arrangements. Man oh man...VTV, D6, CR, Blue, Jaane Tu, Yuvvraaj, Ada, Jodha Akbar.it simply doesn't get any better. --- In arrahmanfans@yahoogroups.com, pratap pratap_elen...@... wrote: Exactly man!!! [arr] London Philharmonic Orchestra and Rahman (and spare program)
I thoroughly enjoyed the night despite the initial disappointment of finding out that AR would not be performing, a few weeks back. It was unique and special and I was only seated 1 row away from the maestro himself! Azad Khan and Naveen Kumar were the surprise packages. They were magical. Truly. My pick was Roja, Taal (Nahi Samne - b.e.u.t.i.f.u.l), Couples retreat (Sajna was awesome!), Slumdog, Swades and Lord of the Rings (Lothlorien- wow!). Amazing stuff. Nihal's (BBC Asia Network) QA session could have fielded more relevant questions I felt, despite wanting to ask unique questions. But was a truly memorable night for me and for you I hope. Unfortunately it was too late when I found out that a program was on sale for £3. I contacted the Southbank centre for one on Thursday but they said they didn't have any. I was wondering if any of you have an extra program that I could buy off you? Would be eternally grateful if anyone is able to give me a program for the night- willing to pay what you ask for it! (Gopal, Vijay - any I could get off the production house? ) Pretty please? Thanks!
[arr] IN Entertainment acquires Hindi remake rights of Vinaaithaandi Varuvaayaa
http://businessofcinema.com/news.php?newsid=15895 MUMBAI: IN Entertainment (INE), has acquired the Hindi remake rights of Gautam Menon's Tamil film Vinaaithaandi Varuvaayaa. The Hindi remake will be directed and co-produced by Menon along with INE and will have music by A.R. Rahman. The cast of the film is yet to be finalized. The film was also made in Telugu as Ye Maya Chesave. Simbu and Trisha have enacted the lead roles in Tamil while Naga Chaitanya and Samantha Ruth have enacted the lead roles in the Telugu version. Menon says, We are delighted to be working with INE and the Hinduja Group for the Hindi Remake of Vinnaithandi Varuvaayaa. It has been a revelation working with A.R. Rahman on the original film and we plan to re-create the same magic in the Hindi remake. IN Entertainment CEO Sunir Kheterpal adds, Vinnaithandi Varuvaayaa is a simple yet an extremely engaging film with great music and a universal theme. INE is looking to develop and produce films with talented Film- makers and Producers in Tamil, Telugu Hindi and it is an honor to be associated with talent like Gautham Menon and A.R. Rahman in the first project itself. We look forward to working with the original producers, Gautham and S. Elred Kumar on other projects as well.
[arr] Times Online
There are some tempting nuggets scattered across the *Alchemy* season, the South Bank’s five-day celebration of Indian and South Asian arts. The young group of improvisers the Teak Project play a free show at the QEH today, for instance, and the festival closes on Sunday with a screening of the classic Bollywood epic *Sholay*. Sadly, the cornerstone of the event, a celebration of the relentlessly prolific screen and stage composer A. R. Rahman, turned out to be a bottom-numbing test of endurance. Thanks to the runaway success of *Slumdog Millionaire*, Rahman is very much a global brand. Even if you think Danny Boyle’s movie was a stupendously overrated sliver of melodrama with pseudo-documentary trimmings, there is no denying that it arrived at a propitious moment, when the new India was claiming its place on the international stage. But as the conductor Matt Dunkley and the London Philharmonic dutifully waded through one anodyne film sequence after another, it became clear that much of Rahman’s instrumental music has the same well-manicured but lifeless qualities as those chains of five-star hotels that cater to our global elite. The evening had opened with dancers decorously passing through the aisles holding stylised diva candles. Thereafter the proceedings took a more anonymous course. The programme crammed in material from all directions, including extracts from the score to *Elizabeth: The Golden Age* and the Hollywood comedy *Couples Retreat*. Rahman, a self-effacing figure who sat in the stalls, announced that he saw the evening as an opportunity to showcase “the other side of me”. While the vocalist Alma Ferovic and the Metro Voices choir gave sturdy performances of the multiplex fare, many of Rahman’s admirers at this sell-out show may have been left wishing that more room could have been made for his more conventional writing for playback singers. Naturally enough, the brief *Slumdog* extracts won loud applause, the guest sitar player Asad Khan injecting passion into the fusion of classical Indian textures and brasher Western pop figures. The flautist Naveen Kumar added another layer of much-needed local colour during his cameo appearances. Although the theme from *Roja* lingered in the memory, we were back in the airport departure lounge for the stage musical of *The Lord of the Rings*. A hint of Celtic mist had hung in the air earlier in the evening; now we were wallowing in overripe anthems, the full-blooded singer Michael Rouse marching off into the rain-swept hills.

[arr] Maaya Machindra in INDIRA??? :O
Folks, In the Discography section of the official website of AR, there is a mention of the song Maaya Machindra credited to Harini as the singer inside the movie list of INDIRA.! Is this a goof up?? OR is there any short piece of Harini in reality??? http://www.arrahman.com/v2/discography/films-tamil-indira.html Also, Maaya Machindra is very famously recorded in Indian in the voices of SPB and Swarnalatha. Then, was this song included first in Indira and then shifted to Indian..??? Any insights about this??
