Its impossible for any Tamilans to hear this song and not get a goosebumps. Especially Shruti Hassan's portion followed by the chorus. Just marvelous! It was so heart warming to see all the Tamil singers performing in A.R.Rahman's songs. Its been 6 years since Harini sang in A.R.Rahman's composition, and Bombay Jayashree, 13 years. Its another great thing to see P.Suseela singing for ARRahman after 15 years. Great to see a song fully performed by leading Tamil singers and beautiful lyrics about Tamil language. One part it says, A lively language, a world language which will live and grow forever, its our language!. It simply will give u the goosebumps. Such inspiring lyrics. And they way the singers render it, hats off to all the singers. Gautham Menon beautifully shot the video, and Anthony's editing. Its spell bounding... the Gautham Menon-ARRahman combo continues to rock! After listening to this song, the love for my Tamil language has grown tremendously... Such divine song from A.R.Rahman. I read some of the members here was complaining about Blaaze's portion. But i really feel it was very appropriate. Showing the Tamilans are rocking in all genre, even in Rap. Loved it...! In any event, my previous post was specifically drawn to answer Mr. Rawat's contention that younger female singers are at par with the veteran singers. Without further diverting from the topic, I would like to reiterate that Karthik has done a marvelous job both in Behne de and Usure Pogadhe and he deserves all the accolades and credits for a job well done here. Correct me if I'm wrong but your argument was that Sonu and Sukhwinder are more deserving singers as compared to Karthik and you believe that they would done a better job in Behne De. I, for one find it futile to bring Sonu or Sukhwinder into this picture. Don't get me wrong for I've nothing against these two great singers but if ARR decided to have Karthik's voice in Behne De then I'm very sure he has very good reasons for the well-made decision. For one, there is something very unique about Karthik's voice which makes him stand far apart from his contemporaries. He has a deep voice which he uses with great effectiveness. They touch you soul when sung in the low notes and they give you goose bumps when sung in the high notes. And these qualities are very much apparent and (judging from the lyrics) essential to Behne De and Usure Pogathe. Quote - My only submission was that perhaps ARR is being overloaded with too many projects (national and international, collabs etc.) and hence the effort to give a song to the most deserving singer (one who is conversant with the genre and language) - is somewhere getting diluted. Perhaps you're giving ARR less credit than he deserves. I don't believe ARR would compromise on the quality of any of his projects in favour for another. Then again, I don't understand how ARR being overloaded with work has anything to do with the selection of singers. In any event, Sonu and Sukhwinder did sing a song each for Raavan. (It was most unfortunate that Sonu's song got axed but that's not the issue here.) My contention is that if ARR had wanted Sonu or Sukhwinder or any other singers to sing Behne De, then he would most certainly have got them to do so. But clearly he wanted to credit Karthik with this number and it's my humble opinion that ARR has made an apt choice here. --- On Thu, 5/27/10, Gopal Anandan agop...@... wrote: From: Gopal Anandan agop...@... We are trying to understand why one version sounds better than the other. One of the reason is also the choice of singers for that genre or type of song and for that particular language. ARR has introduced so many female singers, you can name any female singer and find that her first ARR song is great and doesn't give any slightest indications that it could be her first song. To begin with, the number of female singers introduced by ARR is relatively smaller as compared to the male singers. Nevertheless to answer you question, yes, I do feel that singers like Harini, Chinmayee, Reena Bharadwaj etc would take years before they can be compared with the likes of Lata Mangeshkar, Asha, S.Janaki, Chitra, Kavitha Krishnamurthy or Swarnalatha. I'm not saying they're bad, but they still have not captured the versatility nor do they possess the talent that is evident in the latter group of singers. I'm not going to bring Shreya Ghosal or Sadhana Sargam into this argument as they were clearly introduced by other MDs and it took them some time (esp in the case of Sadhana) before they got the oppurtunity to sing under ARR..nevertheless among the list of new singers we have today, I don't think many of them could be called trend-setters or

Srinivas’ sonorous melody *Mellaga* has Phani underplaying the orchestration suitably, while *Ghal ghal* is interesting in its rendition of a distinctive duet with Phani and Abhinav! [arr] A.R. Rahman wants to unite the globe through Bollywood-like stage show
A.R. Rahman wants to unite the globe through Bollywood-like stage show With scores of dancers moving in unison atop trains, singing amid ancient ruins and running across cricket fields, the average Bollywood production is a grand spectacle. Taking such a show on the road would seem to require significant downsizing. Not for A.R. Rahman, who garnered worldwide exposure with his Academy Award-winning score to Slumdog Millionaire. The Indian film composer is trying to orchestrate his own rise to international stardom by making his production even bigger to dazzle audiences in massive concert venues across the Western Hemisphere with elaborate stage shows teeming with dancers, acrobats and high-tech lighting. I'm an introvert, actually, he said, then corrected himself, I was an introvert, rather. He's also rowing against a tide that has capsized other non-Western stars who attempted to find a place in a global pop pantheon dominated by European and American performers. Fusing the two musical cultures, The musicians are elements of a stage show that also includes four troupes of dancers, each of which will strut the stage deploying an entirely different style of choreography. All the while, a high-tech projection rig that's only been used before in standalone light shows will throw three-dimensional renderings of the Himalayas, the Ganges River and the slums of Mumbai onto the stage. A.R. Rahman attends a news conference to announce his upcoming AR Rahman Jai Ho Concert: The Journey Home World Tour held in New York last month. The tour begins June 11 at New York's Nassau Coliseum and wends through North America and Europe before ending at London's Wembley Stadium in late July, with ticket prices for the roughly three-hour-long shows ranging from $45 to $1,000. http://www.app.com/article/20100531/ENT/100527117/1031

Rahman There is no shortcut to success and the same holds in Hyderabadi singer Mohammed Irfan Ali’s case who is on a high after he lent his voice to Behne De from Raavan. The 24-year-old city lad who gained popularity for competing in Voice of India shares his experience of working with A.R. Rahman. Irfan says that he owes his break to his guru S.P. Balasubrahmanyam, who had promised to recommend him to A.R. Rahman. Nearly 18 months passed before Irfan received a call from Rahman’s office. “I am a huge fan of Rahman sir and was very excited to work with him,” he says. Incidentally, Irfan was clueless that the song he was recording was for Raavan. “I thought the track was for Rahman sir’s personal album. But when I was told that it had been penned by Gulzar saab, I figured it was for a movie,” he says, adding, “I only realised that it was for Raavan when one morning I was browsing through Rahman’s official website before the film’s music launch and saw my name in the credits!” He informs that the dream break gave him the much needed push and says, “I’d been trying to sing in movies for the last two years. I lent my voice for a solo track in Jannat but it didn’t figure in the album. Maybe I was destined to debut under Rahman sir’s guidance. I’ve sung a solo track for another film but I don’t want to discuss it till it’s finalised.” In the meantime, he hopes to sing for some Tollywood films back home. http://www.deccanchronicle.com/tabloids/irfan%E2%80%99s-dream-debut-ar-rahman-320

Re: [arr] {SEMI-ARR} Online listening PAPPU
Mellaga is my pick of the lot followed by Maya Ledi Pilla. The rest are not the kind that I dig. I would have liked for the vocals to be mixed more prominently in Mellaga. It sounded a bit distant (muddy?) to me. Srinivas is a fantastic singer who really needs to be doing more projects. Impressive for a debut album! *Countdown- 18 days to Raavanan* *By Moviebuzz* | Monday, 31 May , 2010, 10:03 *Sify.com* is starting a countdown to the eagerly awaited movie of the year Mani Ratnam’s *Raavanan* in Tamil. The film is a tri-lingual in Hindi (*Raavan*) and Telugu (*Villain*). It is being marketed by Reliance Big Pictures and is scheduled to release worldwide in all three languages on June 18. *Raavanan* features Vikram, Aishwarya Rai, Prithviraj in the lead along with Karthik, Prabhu and Priyamani in supporting roles. This along with its slick three minutes trailer has created a big buzz around the film. The audio launch of the film was done in style by Ratnam, which made the hype bigger as expectations have reached an all new high. Re: [arr] I feel Behne de singing didn't keep up with its music
Well said, Gayathri! I am hoping this will get Karthick his first National Award. Not sure it would be as pleasing and intriguing if someone else had sung it. From: Gayathri Chandrakasan gayathri_c...@yahoo.com To: arrahmanfans@yahoogroups.com Sent: Mon, 31 May, 2010 4:11:36 Subject: Re: [arr] I feel Behne de singing didn't keep up with its music Gopal ji, I'm not trying to give much importance to the debate of new vs seasoned singers myself. --- On Thu, 5/27/10, Gopal Anandan agop...@yahoo. com wrote: From: Gopal Anandan agop...@yahoo. com Subject: Re: [arr] I feel Behne de singing didn't keep up with its music To: arrahmanfans@ yahoogroups. com Date: Thursday, May 27, 2010, 5:06 AM Gayathri ji - the debate is not so much about comparing new vs. seasoned singers. I'm not going to bring Shreya Ghosal or Sadhana Sargam into this argument as they were clearly introduced by other MDs and it took them some time (esp in the case of Sadhana) before they got the oppurtunity to sing under ARR..nevertheless among the list of new singers we have today, I
