A.R. Rahman concert-A terrific and high-powered mix of creativity and talent

Musical genius A.R. Rahman will begin his highly anticipated musical
concert named A.R. Rahman Jai Ho Concert: The Journey Home World Tour.
The world tour will mark its beginning by enthralling the USA
audiences and it is believed that later Rahman will travel to different
cities of countries like America, Canada, France, Switzerland, Holland
and Britain.
It has been reported that he will be having live concerts in these
places and Well-known choreographer-director Amy Tinkham has been roped
in for the world tour. Rahman became famous worldwide after his song
Jai Ho earned Oscars in 2009 and several other international awards.
As for the man himself, he wants people to know more about the richness of
Indian cinema and music.
He commented that while he wants the audience to get a taste of
Indian music, he has also kept in mind the taste of the global audience
in mind while choosing the songs.
Rahman added that he has tried to mix and match different elements that appears
to be fresh and innovative.
Amy
revealed that the show will be an interesting mix of East and West and
will give people a sneak peek to Rahman’s career right from his Roja
days to the latest hit “Slumdog Millionaire”.
Well that would be really interesting since not all shows tries to infuse
Eastern and Western elements.
Needless to say this would be one super duper rocking show.

[arr] Request to ARR Sir: Mausam & Escape very important piece for Jai Ho Concert in Paris

2010-06-15 Thread s03g373 s03g373

Please ARR Sir, don't forget to perform Mausam & Escape from SDM in Paris, this
music is worth the Jai Ho Circle ticket price by itself.

Guys, I don't know if you have watched to Jai Ho Sydney concert, let me tell
you, that in my opinion the highlight of the show was when they played the
music of Slumdog Millionaire "Mausam & Escape". It was brilliant, it is the
kind of music that appeal to western audiences with full of improvisation. It
brought such an energetic feel and boost the show to its extend.

I am happy that indian people appreciate ARR Sir and that they come massively
and numerously to see his concert, but in a certain way it is normal, because
we know that ARR is the Best. What I want is that americans, europeans and all
other foreigners living in France, Germany, US, ... come to see ARR concert and
get surprised by his talent.

Personnally, since I knew the concert date in Paris, I am promoting it at my
level to all my surroundings (work collegues, french friends, neighboors,
etc...), I have also made some promotion at my daugther school in which this
year topics is about India, this was the occasion for me to play some ARR
songs, to play some video clips of Jana Gana Mana (these were excellent video
as it shows all indian instruments and for people who wants to know about
indian music, it was the correct introduction and allow them to discover Mohan
veena, veena, ghatam, sarod, santoor, table, mridangam, shenhai, bansuri flute,
etc...).

I was so proud this saturday to present indian music to french people and more
especially JANA GAN MANA!!!

For your information hereafter is the list of music and videos that I have
played during this event.

Music section, I played

Jana Gana Mana (Flute version)
Jana Gana Mana (sitar version)
Jana Gana Mana (Collective version called "Artists instrumental")
Bombay Theme,
Yeh jo desh Hai (Shenhai version),
Pal pal from Swades (instrumental version),
Azem O from Jodha Akbar,
Mausan & Escape (which had a great success),
Etc... also figure in my list music from L.Subramaniam, Zakir Hussain, Naveen,
Mozart meets India (various artist album)

In the video section, I played:

Jana Gana Mana (Flute version)
Jana Gana Mana (sitar version)
Jana Gana Mana (Collective version called "Artists instrumental"
Azem O from Jodha Akbar,
Ennuyire from Dil Se,
Barso Re from Guru,
and many more

Unfortunately, the event last only 3 hours and was very short to present all
the richness and beauty of India. Besides the music, with my wife, we also
presented others subjects such as indian art (we brought some elephants, some
jewels and other handycrafts that we bought in India last year in summer
holidays), indian cuisine (children made Thali on this occasion with the help
of the receipes we provided), indian sweets ans fruits (we brought some indian
mangoes, goyaves (sorry I don't know the name in english, in tamil it is
"goyaka"). I presented also to french children tamil alphabets (I brought the
tamil LKG book and it was very useful as at the end I succeeded to hear french
children saying "Killi peasum", "maadu paal kodukkum", etc... all this with
perfect accent).

Sorry for deriving from my initial topic, this event is still in my mind and I
wanted to thank ARR Sir for feeding Indianism in NRI like me. Again I am proud
of having used JANA GANA MANA in a french school to introduce indian music to
french children, thanks ARR Sir!!!

Finally, The beauty of Mausan & Escape (of SDM), this mix between classical
indian music and western one is for me the best performance I have ever seen in
a concert.
I hope and sincerely wish that this piece will be played in Paris on the 17th
of July. I will be sitting in Jai Ho Circle in Paris concert and I hope I will
be able to shake hand to ARR Sir and to tell him all my love and respect to the
great indian he is in all aspects (my longtime dream).

JAi Ho,

Serge BELIER

Mumbai: AR Rahman had a star guest at his just concluded Jai Ho Concert in the
US. It was Kylie Minogue.

Kylie and AR Rahman bonded really well when the singer got her to sing Chiggy
Wiggy, a track from the film Blue that released last Diwali. The film bombed
badly at the box office and the track too didn’t stay on the charts for a long
time like other AR Rahman hits. But by that time, Kylie and AR Rahman had
forged a strong bond of friendship.
“Kylie and Rahman remained in touch since over email. Kylie wanted to work with
Rahmanbhai again. He invited Kylie to his Chicago show,” says a source close to
Rahman.
Rahman was pleasantly surprised when he found Kylie on the front row of his
show. Kylie was seen cheering and clapping after every act of Rahman during the
show.
Rahman promptly tweeted on Kylie’s page after the show.
“Thanks for coming, it was so nice to see you again,” said Rahman to Kylie.
Another piece of good news for Rahman fans is that the star musician has
decided to bring out a DVD of his successful tour in
the US.
“I know you are all excited to share pictures and videos from the concert. We
are going to release a DVD of the concert later this year. Please keep the
surprise and excitement alive for the remaining cities on the tour,” Rahman
revealed on Saturday.

Re: [arr] 'VTV' Hindi songs ready

2010-06-15 Thread kishore parayath
This is possibly a rumour. VTV ka Hindi title be finalize nahi hua hai. Then
how can the lyrics be written? How can the singers be finalized so fast? How
can ARR record all the songs so fast under this busy schedule (Jai Ho tour,
PULI's RR, Endhiran's RR etc) ?? That too with 2 new songs composed.
Definitely this is a rumour.

Friends, dont get fooled by such articles. Iam sure, Gopal will confirm
this.

I listened to Blue Theme, Rehnuma & Fiqrana yesterday, very energetic and
rocking songs!! Yet (IMHO) overall soundtrack was not as good as Rahman's

It's really not a bad album. In fact, it has some incredibly rocking tunes

that major, it's a daring album by ARR and I'm glad he did it as an experiment,

the writer has some good points to mention..
but arr needs to release at least half a dozen of classic albums
before it makes sense to make it truly american show..
but this time i think he just tried to give something different..
it is not like trying to become a pop star or something else..
in the past he has already performed on the stage with all the professional
singers and full scale orchestra..

I completely see your point.. he will definitely do
what you have suggested in the future..many more tours to come.
even we want to see his name to become common on the stands..that will come.
meanwhile it is like arr rejecting typecasting..
it is very similar to he composing for the likes of both
kadal desam and lagaan.

Is Jai Ho! A R Rahman's best composition? Most India [ Images ]n
fans of the composer in India and elsewhere in the Diaspora will
disagree with that question.
It is widely believed that Rahman has composed far better songs in
Bollywood and for Tamil films. My personal favourites range from
Chaiyya Chaiyya toTaal [ Images ] Se Taal Mila, and Sandhana
Thendralai from Rajiv Menon's Tamil filmKandukonden Kandukonden.

Nevertheless the box office success of Slumdog Millionaire
[ Images ] and the Oscar wins have clearly made Jai Ho! Rahman's
most popular song in the West. It is also his only known song in the
West other than perhaps the rest of the compositions from Danny
Boyle's [Images ] film.

And so no surprise that the management team behind Rahman's new
stage show would call it Jai Ho 2010: The Journey Home Concert.

After all, the hope was that this concert was going to introduce
Rahman in a big way to mainstream America. That 'journey home'
expression comes from one of the original songs of Rahman's West End
and Broadway musical Bombay Dreams.

I did not understand whether this time the expression 'journey home'
was supposed to represent Rahman's passage back to the US -- now
that he reportedly spends more time in Los Angeles; or was this
concert reconnecting his fans in the Indian Diaspora to their roots
by traversing through the highlights of his rich career.

Last Friday before the first show started at the Nassau Coliseum in
New York, I stood with two friends -- an Indian musician and an
American blogger -- at a bar at the venue doing something very
politically incorrect. We were conducting our own non-scientific
poll of white Caucasian faces in the crowds that were entering the
arena. There may have been more than 15,000 people in the audience,
but we counted about 20 white faces and perhaps we may have missed
another 30 to 40.

We posted on Twitter and later during the show other friends texted
from different locations in the venue. Why did not Rahman's so-
called non-South Asian fans show up? This much was clear -- 99.9
percent of the audience that arrived in their cars from New York and
other neighbouring states (I even met a family that had driven six
hours, all the way from Boston) were brown desis -- more Indians,
but surely also other South Asian fans of Rahman.

I am not an expert in booking musical shows, but I do know that when
artists like Bruce Springsteen, Madonna [ Images ] or Lady Gaga
[ Images ] perform in New York, they seek venues like Radio City
Music Hall or Madison Square Garden. And in order to reach all
shades and colours of New Yorkers, those shows are promoted in the
mainstream press.

But this Rahman show was mostly promoted to the South Asian market.
Desis know Nassau Coliseum since that has long been the site for
Bollywood shows, but it is hardly a venue that would draw other New
Yorkers.

Some may argue that a brown man's dollar has the same value as that
of a white man and I will agree with that. The Coliseum was filled
to about 75% capacity and so how does it matter who bought the
tickets? But I still feel that with a grand show such as this --
well produced by choreographer-director Amy Tinkham, who has worked
on concerts with artists including Paul McCartney, Madonna and

Oscar and Grammy-winner A.R. Rahman's highly-anticipated 'A.R. Rahman Jai Ho
Concert: The Journey Home World Tour' was witnessed by thousands of fans in
New York, Atlantic City and Virgina in USA recently. Rahman even has a
surprise guest! Kylie Minogue.

Kylie and Rahman performed 'Chiggy Wiggy', a track from the film *Blue* that
released last Diwali. After about 24,000 people saw the show in three
days, the show is now moving across America, Canada and London.

“I know you are all excited to share pictures and videos from the concert.
We are going to release a DVD of the concert later this year. Please keep
the surprise and excitement alive for the remaining cities on the tour,”
Rahman revealed after the concert.

The concert, produced by Deepak Gattani from Rapport Productions, will
travel to over 20 major arenas and cities worldwide. During this period, he
will have live concerts in USA, Canada, Netherlands, France, Norway, and UK,
covering the cities of New York, Atlantic City, Washington DC, Chicago,
Detroit, Toronto, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Dallas, Houston, Amsterdam,
Paris, Oslo, Glasgow, Manchester and London.

Well-known choreographer-director Amy Tinkham, who has worked on the live
musical concerts of pop icons Paul McCartney, Madonna, Britney Spears, Dixie
Chicks and Motley Crue, has teamed up for the tour. The live concert will be
a theatrical experience that will blend new technologies with dance
arrangements and acrobatics. It will feature changing sets, large images and
a cast of musicians and dancers from across the globe.

Are these journalists or fiction writers? Such cock and bull. The incident

Kylie and AR Rahman bonded really well when the singer got her to sing Chiggy
Wiggy, a track from the film Blue that released last Diwali. The film bombed
badly at the box office and the track too didn’t stay on the charts for a long

“Kylie and Rahman remained in touch since over email. Kylie wanted to work with

Rahman was pleasantly surprised when he found Kylie on the front row of his

Rahman promptly tweeted on Kylie’s page after the show.

“Thanks for coming, it was so nice to see you again,” said Rahman to Kylie.

[arr] Aishwarya, Rajnikanth's Endhiran arrives in Aug

2010-06-15 Thread A.R.Rajib
Aishwarya, Rajnikanth's Endhiran arrives in Aug
Two Oscar Winners working on film

Good news for fans tired of waiting - the Rajnikanth-Aishwarya Rai
extravaganza 'Endhiran' (Robot) will hit theaters this August. There is just
one song to be shot at a hotel still under construction near Anna Arivalayan
in Teynampet.

The Oscar winning duo of AR Rahman and Resul Pookutty have jammed for
'Endhiran' - Rahman has composed six songs for the film, one of which he has
sung himself. Sound designer Pookutty has been handed the final edit of the
film and is busy inputting the big action sound effects to polish the film
before release.

The producers of the film have already spent crores on the film but director
Shankar is contemplating on a 3D version, the conversion would be done
digitally during post production (like in the new Harry Potter film).
Shankar's strategy is to bring audiences to the theater, and keep pirates at
bay, in case you didn't already know, his previous film 'Jaggubhai' was
widely pirated, and was even available on the internet on the day of the
release. The director was shown a 3D demo of the film by a leading special
effects company, and was highly impressed by the result.

'Endhiran' has already broken a lot of records, AR Rahman is now the highest
paid musician in India and Aishwarya Rai is the highest paid Bollywood
actress of all time, with an upfront fee of Rs 6 crore. Aishwarya beat out
the likes of Priyanka Chopra, Deepika Padukone, Asin, Trisha Krishnan,
Shriya Saran, Priyamani and Nayanthara who were approached to star in the
film.

Endhiran was filmed in Himachal Pradesh, the US, Vietnam, Brazil, with a
song shot at the historic site of the Machu Picchu in Peru! Four hundred
students from the Vellore Institute of Technology were used as extras in the
film. The fight scenes in the film were choreographed by Yuen Woo-ping, who
worked on 'The Matrix', the animatronics and puppetry were done by
Hollywood's Stan Winston Studios, the visual effects/CGI were rendered by
Industrial Light & Magic. Endhiran releases on 14 April 2010.

*Mumbai: *His credentials as a filmmaker are well established and he is on
the wish list of top Indian film stars, but Mani Ratnam still feels like a
newcomer before the release of each new film.

*Growing in stature*: Abhishek Bachchan during a road show in Mumbai last
week to promote*Raavan*
--

   - *
   *

The Tamil director is awaiting the release of his bilingual film*Raavan* this
Friday.

"I am not worried about the craze and expectations from others," Ratnam
said. "I just want to get the film right and do as good as I can. I feel as
pressurised as a beginner before every release."

The 54-year-old director, who made films like *Roja*, *Dil Se*,*Bombay* and
*Guru*, which won both critical acclaim and box-office success, said he
often turns to his writers and actors for help while making a film in Hindi.

"I trust the writer when he says something will not sound right in Hindi,"
he said. "I ask him how would it sound right. I trust the actor and discuss
it with him. So we discover many things together."

The director, fondly called Mani Sir by his actors and crew, believes that
making a film in Hindi is a liberating experience because he lets go of the
control.

"In Tamil, I hold more reins and control while in Hindi, I trust the other
persons more, so it becomes a liberating experience," he said.

Ratnam described making *Raavan*, which stars Abhishek Bachchan, Aishwarya
Rai, and Vikram, in Hindi and Tamil
simultaneously as a "huge task".

"I am an instinctive filmmaker and the challenge is not to let go totally
the instinct while directing a scene in two different languages," he said.
"Once you finish a shot you can't move on to the next shot immediately. The
tempo just changes."

Ratnam, who has given Abhishek Bachchan hits like *Yuva* and*Guru*, does not
think he is responsible for the upswing in the actor's career.

"I have not done anything drastic for Abhishek. I just made him play a
character which is close to him. Since *Yuva*, Abhishek has grown as an
actor by leaps and bounds," he said.

"As a filmmaker you are selfish, you want what is right for your film. If I
think Abhishek can do a role well and if he is equally interested, then we
do it together. It is simple."

Ratnam said that in all three films he has done with Bachchan so far, he had
given the actor drastically different characters and he had delivered each
time.

"He has done something which we did not know how to do, but we managed and
he was able to get across the gist of the character on screen," he said.

"Abhishek is great to work with and he has been able to convert the film
into a fine product. But unless we find something new we will not work," the
director said.

According to Ratnam, *Raavan* as compared to *Guru* and *Yuva* is larger
than life and needed flamboyance in the portrayal. Bachchan managed to shed
his inhibitions to portray the character convincingly, he said.

The director wanted to cast Bachchan in the Tamil version as well, as Dev.
"But Abhishek would have had to learn the language first and I would have
still been shooting," he laughed.

But he is happy with Aishwarya's progress in Tamil. "Her Tamil is as good as
my Hindi," Ratnam remarked. "But she understands the language and picks up
the dialogues fast."

Ratnam said the actress's formal training in Tamil started when she made her
debut with his 1997 Tamil movie *Iruvar*.

But the perfectionist that Ratnam is, he does not like to look back on his
previous movies because he sees "only mistakes".

The veteran filmmaker believes cinema is an extension of story-telling and
he likes to narrate his stories in a language that the audience understands.

"I don't believe in being different for the sake of being different," he
said, adding that all his films deal with facets of relationships.

"Every film cannot have the same element. The idea of *Raavan *struck while
I was shooting the last schedule of *Guru*. I even discussed the concept
with Aishwarya," he said.

Ratnam said he had high regard for Oscar-winner AR Rahman, who has been a
permanent fixture in his movies as music director. In fact, it was Ratnam's
*Roja* that first introduced Rahman to the Hindi audiences.

"He wants to do something new and experiment. He leaves away safety and does
not want to concentrate on commercially hit songs," Ratnam said.

This time, the director is introducing Tamil superstar Vikram to audiences
across India through his film.

"Why not... he brings freshness to the scr
