On Tue, Apr 7, 2009 at 5:17 AM, Bivin Chandra bivinchandra@ yahoo.com wrote: New Delhi, Apr 7 (PTI) The world might be ga ga over A R Rahman's Oscar winning composition 'Jai Ho' but legendary Ghazal singer, Jagjit Singh finds the song overrated. The 68-year-old legend who is famous for his candid nature believes that getting the Academy award was a golden moment in Indian history but the song per se did not deserve the honour. Getting an Oscar is no doubt a great achievement but the song, for which we got the award, is not so special. Frankly I did not understand on what basis it was awarded, Singh told PTI at a function where he released his new album 'Inteha.' The Ghazal maestro, said that he did not understand the lyrics of the composition and why it has become so popular that everybody from Indian political parties to International pop bands is eager to use it. When referred that lyrics for the song has been penned by Gulzar with whom he has given many hits, Singh said, When I work with Gulzar Sahab I categorically tell him to write such poetry which my fans and I can understand. Singh, who has composed some hit music for films like 'Arth' and 'Saath Saath' in the 80's does not seem to have a good opinion about today's Bollywood music as he stated, it lacks profound poetry and soulful tunes. [arr] Rahman on 'Slumdog Millionaire' criticisms
Rahman on 'Slumdog Millionaire' criticisms IndiaGlitz [Friday, February 06, 2009] The epitome of humbleness has finally opened up to vent out his opinion against the several brickbats that have been hurled at 'Slumdog Millionaire' over the past days. A.R.Rahman, the winner of the prestigious Golden Globe and a strong contender for the upcoming Academy Awards said, If creative people want to comment on a film, and if I were a director, I would make another film and prove my point and say this is what India is about. Supporting the film the music wizard said that the only thing that mattered to him is that he felt so good and extremely positive after watching the film. Rahman hailed the movie for depicting the reality and also beautifully showcasing the way Indian economy has grown over the years. Praising director Danny Boyle, Rahman said that he loved the film maker's vision of the screenplay and the artistic quality of 'Slumdog Millionaire'. Thinking in a broader perspective the composer added For me it is not about India alone. It is about the human spirit which triumphs and this could have happened in China or Brazil or anywhere else.
[arr] boss on the cover of People Magazine
hey guys check this out link http://www.bollywoodhungama.com/features/2009/01/31/4797/index.html The film Slumdog Millionaire has been making headlines for the number of Oscar nominations that it has garnered and the Golden Globes that it has won. However, this one individual associated with this film has been blessed with success at every step that he took in his career. But he has not once taken it for granted; instead he has worked even harder to outdo himself. He is none other than A R Rahman. This month in People magazine, musician A.R. Rahman opens up about the philosophy that makes him a great artist. The soft-spoken maestro attributes his success as much to his tremendous talent as having “ethics, commitment, passion and friendship”. After taking the international stage by storm with his score for Slumdog Millionaire, Rahman is now intent on cementing his reputation further. Talking about his spiritual side, Rahman says, “It boosts my confidence, instills humility and detaches me from everything else.” He in fact credits his father for teaching him to respect people. “My father was a hard worker and never judged musicians by their compositions. He had great respect for them as people and I learnt the same.” Though it is a Hollywood film that won him international acclaim (the Golden Globe and Oscar nominations), Rahman says that it is the victory of the Indian music. “My win is a win for Indian music. And I want to bring India more and more recognition in the field of music.” And now though the world is at his feet, for Rahman family comes first. “It is too exhausting to have many films on hand. We all need a personal life. I need to spend quality time with my family.” The magazine also features Rahman’s mother Kareema Begum, who treats the readers with an inside view of his life, “I have to send my grandchildren to the studio to remind him to have his food.” That just goes to show how committed he is towards what he is doing… So all of us here at Bollywood Hungama say cheers to India’s very own Beethoven.
