Awsome work Alphons, Hats off to both legends. :) i am listening to your tracks
from your first malayalam movie. Most of the tracks always have special place
in my heart. But i never thought u can sing like this. What a rendition. Can't
believe you composers did the song over nite. I heard u have mentioning this in
some news channel right? Anyway the best part of the song is your voice. Double
Hats off to u.

Hi! Arvind

This is going into Non-ARR arena but cant help clarifying things.

Mella Thirantha Kathavu was an album for which MSV collaborated with IR. Both
were given credit for the album. Not just that, both did couple of devotional
albums too.

Coming to Hey! Ram, L.Subramaniam was originally signed for the film. However,
Kamal Haasan had a fallout with him and went to his favourite Ilaiyaraaja. The
tunes in Hey! Ram, that we hear(d) are completely composed by Ilaiyaraaja and
anyone who can follow ilaiyaraaja' s style of music can confirm the same.
Infact, if you can youtube a bit, you can find videos of recording sessions of
that album. None of the L.Subramaniam' s tunes were used in the film and
Ilaiyaraaja being a strict disciplinarian has never allowed/took credit for any
other composer (exception being his son Karthik Raaja, who worked on couple of
pieces in some of IR albums such as Raasaiyya). It happened only once, in 1977,
when he was forced to use a superhit Hindi song in telugu and he reluctantly
had to give in that time, since he did not have much voice in the industry.

I am aware that this is purely Non-ARR topic, but i wanted to clarify so that
facts are known about all the artists involved (be it L.Subramaniam,
Ilaiyaraaja, MSV).

Coming to Punnaghai Mannan Theme, if we have any musicbuffs here who are
knowldegeable about Ilaiyaraaja' s composition style and his school of thought,
they can vouch that the theme music was composed by him. ARR programmed it and
his contribution was not miniscule. I would credit the track to both. But the
tune, it has IR written all over it.

Regards
Kamal Aakarsh Vishnubhotla.

Mr Murali,

>>though he did not composed it,theme of bombay and duet is a good example for
>>his excellency.

Pls dont try to create a controversy by making baseless allegations!

And The Hindu article that you mention - do you have a link for the same?
I dont remember reading anything like that! Does anyone recollect AR saying
something on Punnagai Mannan theme? IF so, pls post the link!

In this Rahmania interview, Suresh Krishna very clearly says that the full song
was composed by AR.

And, one more thing - your statement that "e.one knows that ir want to be the
sole personin creating music in his films" is not true either! With due respect
to Ilayaraja, there have been quite a few cases where someone else has composed
the music and IR has got the credit.. The recently well documented one is that
of the song "Ooru Sanam" (and a few other songs too) in "Mella Thirandhadhu
Kadhavu" which was composed by MSV, but it was credited to IR! When IR was at
his peak, and MSV had almost hit his nadir, he was working as a an arranger for
IR's recordings and Mella Thirandhadhu Kanavu was one such project where MSV
worked for IR... and MSV actually composed the tune.
S.Janaki revealed this a few years back in JAYA TV Raagamalika show in the
presence of MSV, and has made it a point to bring this up in almost every stage
show she attends!

Most of the songs in Hey Ram were composed by Legendary Violinist L
Subramaniam, who was initially the composer of the film... He mentioned very
clearly in his Kumudam interview that most of the "Hey Ram" tunes were his, and
he felt very very bad that he wasn't credited, and instead IR was credited!

With such a history, it is hard to doubt the news that AR composed
PunnagaiMannan theme, but was not credited!

All the "assumptions" on which you make ur arguments dont hold good!
Pls back up ur arguments with facts, and pls dont create unnecessary confusion
in the group!

in an interview by the hindu rahmannna has clearly stated that he was just an
opeartor for the songs composed and the theme music done. he has said that ir
has composed the tune and he programed it.

no confusion that ir has composed
