Re: [arr] Which ARR album surprised you the most?
Pleasantly surprised... 1. Boys 2. Kangalal Kaithu Sei Plain surprised... (with less favourable reactions from me) 1. Parthale Paravasam. The pre 2000 albums did not surprise me. I was just taking them all in the flow :) In the recent albums, Pleasantly surprised... 1. JTYJN 2. Yuvraaj Plain Surprised... 1. Couples Retreat Regards, Mugilan. [arr] Glad with how VTV has turned out !
Thanks ARR. As I listen more and more to this album, its as if ARR has composed music in a parallel universe. A year long wait of wanting to see what ARR and Gautham can conjure up together is finally over. And I love the end result. Thanks Gautham for the platform. Regards, Mugilan.
Re: [arr] Top Ten ARR Albums 2000-2009
My list will stand like this. 1. Delhi 6 . . . . . . 2. AlaiPayuthe / Saathiya 3. Boys 4. Jaane Tu 5. Kandukondaen Kandukondaen 6. RDB 7. Kannathil Muthamittal 8. Swades 9. Lagaan 10. VTV As I kept making this list, I had the following thoughts. 1. I liked the music in both of Rakyesh OM's films very very much. I did not watch Delhi 6. But I hope they combine together for the next movie too. 2. I have only 2 of Manirathnam's movies in the list. I doubt if it would be the same if I had to make a list of the 90's. 3. I personally love commercial music like Boys and Jaane Tu (if u can call it so) more than the classy stuff (Water, Bose, JA, etc), including those fun and commercial songs, which supposedly wears down after the initial high. 4. Most eager for VTV. Jan 12th will be a special day. 5. I had never expected to change my most favourite ARR album from Dil Se. But I guess, if I had to make a new list, it will have to be Delhi 6, followed by Dil Se at a close second (and Thiruda Thiruda at 3). Happy Birthday Dear ARR. Love you much. Regards, Mugilan. Re: [arr] Try to answer the following 2 questions:
Tamil 1. Kangalaal Kaithu Sei - Expected very little but then was mesmerised for days to come. 5 gems! 2. Sivaji - Huge let down. Hindi 1. Jaane Tu - Didnt know much abt the cast or the director. So was not very hopeful. Felt there wud be songs like Lakeer or the 'Koye Koye' song from Tehzeeb. Dunno why. But then, there is no song I like less in this movie now. A throughly enjoyable album! 2. Daud - Coming after Rangeela, I was mighty disappointed with this. Not that it was bad. Like chord, I had my hopes too high. English 1. Slumdog - That was around the time when we first started dropping hints in this group abt a new english movie by ARR, by some popular british director, whose name I didnt catch then. But I loved 'O Saaya' right from the 1st time, when I watched its video in youtube. Like a bucket of cold water on my face, it made me damn awake! 2. Bombay Dreams - Only because I could not relate much to it and for the sake of completing this list in 3 languages :) Regards, Mugilan. Re: [arr] Let's keep in mind the attitudes and exposure of the elders
Good Thoughts Chord. I completely agree. However, I guess, I have been really lucky in this regard :) The biggest ARR fan and the closest to me is my dad. He brought a Tape Recorder during the time Genteman was released. That was my first ever cassette. He bought it after he liked the songs. However, the next cassette we bought was Kizhaku Cheemayilae and it was on the day of the audio release. He brought it home with a lot of excitement I still clearly remember. With the song on side A starting Athaiku piranthavalae, I remember the smiling approvals we gave each other :) We still treasure all those audio cassettes. Infact for most of them, I can recollect the day we had bought it and the initial feedback we shared. During my school days, it was always my dad who tracked the audio release dates and kept coming home with the 1st day release cassettes. After I moved to chennai, I slowly took over, thanks to the Internet and arrahmanfans.com:) He still listens to most of his music. He loved Chinnamma Chillakama(Meenaxi). He loved O Saya from Slumdog! No Surprise, the first person I called after ARR won the oscars was my Dad. He was at his school. He is a teacher. Luckily he was in a break so I didnt have to wait to share the news :) Sorry abt a long mail. Somehow, whatever Chord shared, made me nostalgic about all the good times :) Thanks for reading. Regards, Mugilan. On Sun, Mar 1, 2009 at 11:04 PM, Chord purev...@yahoo.com wrote: After reading Jagjit Singh's, Pyarelal's and Ali Khan's comments about ARR and his music, it also struck me the big generational differences in terms of attitudes and exposure towards music. Personally, I have found that even with people I know, like my parents and their friends, their appreciation for music is within a narrow range. Anything outside that range is overlooked and not appreciated as much, and sometimes ridiculed. I have found that amongst many elders, there is a certain arrogance or haughtiness implying, we know what's best. This is a product of our culture revering elders and their wisdom by tradition in contrast to many seniors and elders feeling left out and disrespected by attitudinal changes in today's world reflecting less respect and reverie towards seniors. For example, when I gave my parents a copy of the D6 CD, they only liked the folk and semi-classical elements of the soundtrack. That's it. When I asked them about Jaane Tu, they said that they didn't like the music, although they love and appreciate ARR's other works that are more in line with their taste. Of course, even within elders, there will be a lot of variation in terms of taste and attitude, but overall, I feel that they are more narrow minded about music than we youngsters are OVERALL AS A GROUP, keeping in mind individual differences. Because ARR's music is so diverse and touching upon so many different genres, a large percentage of his work is not going to be appreciated by those with more narrow minded definitions of good music. Who knows, maybe when we reach that age, we too may reflect some of that narrow mindedness in terms of our exposure compared to what the youth may be listening to at that time. However, I have hope that because we youngsters have been exposed to such an array of world music through ARR and other artists, I think we will generally have a broader appreciation for music than previous generations. ARR has gifted us with something very important: tolerance and open mindedness for different types of music. Thank you ARR!

That means Gulzar ji, Sukhwinder and other singers, etc. didn't win an Oscar for themselves. Several of my friends and even i myself were under the impression that Gulzar ji got Oscar. -- Rawat

I do not understand a word of Hindi to make a better comparision, but still wud make a wild guess on seeing the visuals in the trailer :) Regards, Mugilan. Note: For non-tamils, Oru malai and Suttum vizhi were two equally popular songs from the tamil Ghajini.

Re: [arr] :: Book your T-shirts ::
Hi Bharath, This mail is a unicast to u. I personally don't like the image which has been chosen for the black and white color. I know that this pic of Rahman is quite a popular one used widely for Bombay Dreams. But the reason why I don't prefer is because it shows him to be very serious and it is as if he is staring at someone. I would prefer a one in which he is smiling confidently(he has a wonderful charm when smiling), or one in which he looks passionate abt his music. All the other pics which you chose are fine with me and I think fall under the specified categories. However this is just a personal thought. But since many people have voted for this you may want to go for the same design. Anyways thought of letting u know my comment. And I am ok to any design decided upon by the group. And am definitely going for the T Shirt anyway :) Finally, I should congratulate u for the wonderful work u have done with this TShirt concept. All your designs were amazing. I have also used ur wallpapers many times to decorate my desktop. Thanks mate! U Rock! Regards, Mugilan. On 6/14/05, Bharat K V [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Hey Guyz Gurlz, BOOK YOUR T-SHIRTS NOW...!!
