Thanks Guys,

I'll be designing the other search query pages according to the criteria of
singers, directors, year etc, and will be asking for the feedback.

Please note that i can help in design purpose only, not very good at coding. I
am sure that the friends here are well qualified for this job.  I'll do my best
with what i know.

example can I get all songs sung by Udit both solos and otherwise?

  Dear All,

I am keeping track of the ingoing discussion and work done by members about a
full ARR movie and dongs database, in that regard, i have designed the front
design of a movie details. Please note that some details given a not correct,
as i am not very aware of the ragas, but can have an idea about how it looks.

Since its sole purpose is about ARR Movies, I have made a bigger search bar
where anything can be searched, with some category thrown in ..

My plan is to design the following pages

1. Main Movie page - shows detail about a particular movie ( as attached)
2. Year page
3. Singer
4. Language - year wise listing of movie
5. Director
5 - Actor / Actress ( Since the db is about ARR, i think details about the
actor/actresses is sufficient)

Any other you guys can
 suggest.

Suggestions are welcome

Thank you everyone who took the time to compile the list for the db.

i have just created a form to collect the data directly to MySQL.  so that
exporting it to any db would be easier.

i will be adding in teh album names from the excel file we have when i get a
chance, but if you want to add something by yourself, please feel free..

it is just using a form generator.  the only goal is to collect the data.

Re: [arr] Why the past songs are better

2010-08-22 Thread rakesh kumar
Roshan,

Frankly speaking when i see the heading, I though again somebody starting the
old better and new lost charm discussion.. again. And other members wil join
it and will be a long mail thread.

But i am glad when i read it. It was really good and you said exactly what i
feel. Its the nostalgic feel of momemts which we associate with a particular
song which makes it special and likable. I myself had these memories.

I remember going to my best friends house, who is a punjabi and he said, listen
to this album and he played Rangeela I cant tell u the feeling when i heard
that beats and songs. It was simple anything i had heard before. though
expected from Rahman as i was hearing his songs since roja, but the moment come
unexpected. On my way back to home, i had new Cassette of Rangeela.

I feel people always have this old is gold concept in their mind. let the new
songs become old, then they will also be likable and nobody will say its not
soul less.

Great post buddy.

A lot of our members have expressed their feelings that AR Rahman was
better in his 90s.  Though I don't agree with them I have my favorites from the
past.  Not just from Rahman. From all the composers, musicians and singers.

But the fact is that it is not because the songs were better in the past. it is
because we always hold on to our past. be it songs, incidents, falling in love,
breakups, marraige functions, first job, college graduation, a great friend..
the whole life.  We always think that past was somehow better.  We are always
worried about the future.  don't we cherish  memories from our childhood and
teenage ?  It is the same with songs.  when we hear an old song, it triggers
memories of incidents, people, happiness or sadness that we related to that
particular song.

Beatles' Yesterday is an absolute favorite of mine.  there are plenty of great
songs even better than that one. but it brings me back the memory of a great
time had in Brunei when I got my first job there in 2003. That is when I
started listening to international artistes often and on top of that I was in
love. And, when I hear it now, it gives makes me feel like I have lost
something but, in reality I haven't.

I love Tanha Tanha from rangeela a lot.  it is a great song, musically.
But the reason I love it the most is because that is when I got my first
portable cassette player (Videocon Walkman) along with a cassette of
rangeela as a gift.  I did my schooling in a hostel, and I became a popular
kid because I had a walkman.  lots of kids would come to our dormitory
to listen to the songs. So, we put some money together and bought a
speaker and placed it on top of a cardboard box with a hole in it, so
the rest of the kids can hear it.   I was so excited. because not only I
got more friends, I was doing something with electronics stuff..
cutting the earphones and connecting the wires to the speaker, making
the sound go louder with just one cardboard box with a hole! I felt like I was
Einstein!

now, when I hear that song.. it brings back memories of my friends, that
cardboard box, that videocon walkman, and my great school and teachers.

We all talk about how great the classics were.  we regard RD Burman, Noushad,
Ilaya Raja and the whole lot of great musicians as the best and some people
even compare them with today's musicians and talk about how music has lost its
soul.  It hasn't lost any soul. it is because those people related to their
most cherished memories when they hear their favorites.   give today's music
another 20 to 30 years and we will be talking about how great the 2010's music
were.

It is same for AR Rahman.  the reason why some of you think that ar rahman
created better music in 90s is because you were probably teenagers or children
during that time and probably were having the greatest times of your life.
there were lots of things happening,  experiencing new things..  and probably
ar rahman's music even helped you a lot at that time. and when you hear it now,
you are taken back to that golden era of your life.

try to understand that fact before saying ar rahman's music lost the soul.   it
only means that you have grown up,  you  have become more experienced, aged and
wiser ( and probably grayer and fatter - no offense, just for fun.). get into
the mindset of a teenager again and see if you all can enjoy the Kala Bandar
and Jai Ho and Fiqraana and even Enthiran.   I bet you will.

sorry about the long post :)

There’s more than just sports to look forward to at the upcoming
Commonwealth Games scheduled to take place between October 3-14 in Delhi.
Some of India’s best musicians will lend their magic to the multi-national,
 multi-sport event.

Composer-musician Ranjit Barot has been appointed as the music director of
the Games while A R Rahman has been commissioned to compose the theme song
or the official anthem. As music director, Barot will be working on all
segments of the event, including the opening and closing ceremonies, along
with Rahman, Taufiq Qureshi, Hariharan and other musicians. “There are a
number of cultural segments involved in the Commonwealth Games, so there is
plenty of scope for varied styles. However, since the Games will be held in
India this time, the underlying feel will be quintessentially Indian. We
have tried to capture the essence of ancient and contemporary India through
the music. It is a challenging and hugely satisfying experience,” says
 Barot.

I'll be honest, really honest. I'm telling you the complete truth.I
think Raavan is a short masterpiece. Short, yes, but sweet and brilliant, you
bet!!!

And by the way, if you don't think Khili Re is a lovely melody, I don't have
much else to say.

At the outset, I am a very old fan of ARR. From Roja days and still buy his

Lets be honest here - how many agree with me on the following

 1. The songs sound like 'I have heard them before from ARR. It did not feel
 new.

 2. Where are the lovely melodies? I miss the romantic, smooth ARR melodies
 that captivated us before

 3. Too garish and loud with no substance in some songs? When Endrendum
Punnege in Tamil was released, it took us by shock. What music it was. Is
there any such 'Wow factor'. I doubt.

Awaiting Endhiran to see how the ARR - Sankar combination has worked things
 out.

music but sub standard lyrics). i felt the lyrics and music doesn't go
together in Raavan. the same i felt about Blue.
the lyrics has no formation what so ever.

 Dear cke

I have so far concentrated only on behne de lyrics and they seem very
 moving.

Others like Kata Kata are by nature humorous light natured song so
only superficial lyrics are appropriate for them.

Real sub standard lyrics were in Ghajini's pyaas pyaas, paas paas, aas
aas, even blue was not as bad.

what do you guys think about it??

nice to see another fan here who also gives due weightage to lyrics.
hoping to see you mention more examples of good and bad lyrics.

Re: [arr] ARR 5th in list of Most Trusted Indians

Wow.. Thats a strange but a very interesting list.. And quite well surveyed.

On Tue, Mar 2, 2010 at 7:18 AM, Gopal Srinivasan catchg...@gmail.comwrote:

 Kalam tops trusted Indians list

 IANS
Published on Tue, Mar 02, 2010 at 17:31, Updated on Tue, Mar 02, 2010 at
 18:14 in India section

New Delhi: Former president A P J Abdul Kalam and industrialist Ratan Tata
top the list of 100 most trusted Indians while artist M F Husain is at 91
and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati is at the very bottom, a survey
conducted for Reader's Digest has revealed.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is ranked seventh, one place below chess
grandmaster Vishwanathan Anand, Sachin Tendulkar is at number eight and
Nobel laureate Amartya Sen at 10th place along with Wipro chairman Azim
Premji and Indian Space Research Organisation M Madhavan Nair.

Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi is ranked 29th in the survey
published in the March edition ofReader's Digest that hit the stands
 Tuesday.

*Others in the top 10 list of India's most trusted Indians are former
police officer Kiran Bedi (3rd), Infosys co-founder Narayana Murthy (4th),
music composer A.R. Rahman (5th) and cartoonist R.K. Laxman (9th).*

Among India's most trusted professions, teachers are at the top, followed
rather surprisingly by firefighters and farmers follow at number three.

Scientists and members of the armed forces share fourth position, with
doctors at sixth, pilots at seventh, pilots at seventh, surgeons at eighth,
nurses at ninth and engineers at 10th.

At the bottom end of the scale of 40 most trusted professions are religious
leaders (35), lawyers (36), police officers (37), government officials (38),
 realtors (39) and politicians (40).

The survey was conducted online by market research firm Digital Edge that
sent out 5,000 invitations, with 761 people responding by the cutoff date,
Digest editor Mohan Sivanandan told IANS on the phone from Mumbai.

The survey covered 30 cities, with two-thirds of the respondents being
under 35, possessing a bachelor's degree and three-fourth's male, he added.

Given this, Sivanandan has added a caveat in his editorial in the Digest.

Although we cannot claim this survey to be absolutely scientific, you'll
agree with me that the overall results mirror public perceptions fairly
accurately. Equally interesting are the views and explanations from experts.
On a personal note, I don't have cause to rejoice, because journalists are
ranked 30th among 40 professions, just below plumbers, the editorial says.

Thus, the survey has more than its share of surprises, with cricket captain
Mahendra Singh Dhoni ranked at 42nd, way below shooter Abhinav Bindra
(25th), while tennis star Sania Mirza is at 81st.

The respondents gave a massive thumbs down to politicians and sports
 administrators.

Bharatiya Janata Party leader L.K. Advani is at 94, Railway Minister Mamata
Banerjee at 96, Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar at 97, Communist Party of
India-Marxist general secretary Prakash Karat at 98 and former railway
 minister Lalu Prasad at 99.

Indian Premier League commissioner Lalit Modi is just one notch above
 Advani.

Bollywood and the small screen have their share of places with actors
Amitabh Bachchan and Aamir Khan at 14 and 18 respectively, with TV comic
Jaspal Bhatti at 43, scriptwriter Javed Akhtar at 46, Shah Rukh Khan at 53,
Sushmita Sen at 64, Rajnikanth at 67, Kamal Haasan at 71, director Anurag
Kashyap at 78, Malayalam actor Mohanlal at 80, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan at 82
and TV serial producer Ekta Kapoor at 95.

Among the other surprises in the list, President Pratibha Patil is ranked
way below at 67, Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia
at 41, Home Minister P. Chidambaram at 50, novelist Khushwant Singh at 51
and environmentalist R.K. Pachauri at 61 along with CNN-IBN Editor-in-Chief
 Rajdeep Sardesai.

Congress president Sonia Gandhi is at 72, Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee
at 73, Minister of State for External Affairs Shashi Tharoor at 84, Leader
of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Arun Jaitley at 86, Gujarat Chief Minister
Narendra Modi at 87 and Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah at
 89.

 Hi friends,

Good day to you. Today many of us has got many friends because of
 A.R.Rahman anna and

by his music. We started loving him because of his music and it was keep on
 increasing whenever

a new album of him get released.

Though we started loving him for his music ,we have considered him as our
 role model when we

Came to know about his hard work, discipline, respect to others and his love
 to everyone esp.to

 The society.

Due to internet we the fans of arr came closer and whenever we got the news
 from many fans

Around the world that they have done some kind of activities for the
 society and the needy people

It has induced us to do some social service from our side.

We have formed arr fans club in *coimbatore* in the name “Rahman *Bloods
 of coimbatore*” and *Mr.bala*

Was the main initiator for to form the group and many people joined and

Started contributing and it has developed as a good team.

We have done few activities in small scale initially and that’s the time
we came to know about the tree plantation

Program in tiruppur by “Isha Yoga centre”.Isha yoga were planning to
plant more trees and the concept kicked off from tiruppur

Which is called as the export city of tamilnadu.

They will plant the tree and look after the tree till it grows well as the
tree has to be taken care

For the initial period and will name the tree in the name of the person who
has donated which is a nominal charge.

We the fans of arr decided to contribute and donated isha yoga to plant
four trees in tirupur on behalf of

*Our brother A.R.Rahman,his mother and H.Shridhar*.

So two trees was contributed in the name of our anna and one by his mothers
name and another in the name

 Of shridhar sir.

Last week we got a letter from isha yoga thanking for the contribution and
 they have mentioned the locality

Where the trees has been plant. We will send u the scanned copy of the
letter sent by them soon. The trees will spread the names of arr,his
 mother,shridhar forever.

*Mr.Vignesh and Mr.indrakumar* were the important persons co-ordinating
for this cause under the support of fellow

 Members.

As anna’s b’day is approaching and isha yoga having centres in many parts
of the country wants to spread this

Program to a larger extent, contributing to this cause in ur city atleast
planting a tree in the name of arr will help the society

In future.u can also plan for this activity for his forth coming b’day

Kindly contact isha yoga in ur city and contribute for a tree.

May the glory of ARR grows always by the almighty's blessings

 Thanks

From the Ramayan to Rahman, that's the journey that according to Gulzar
  saab, the phrase '*Jai
  Ho*
 http://www.bollywoodhungama.com/broadband/video/Movie-Songs/UvvqNk19/3/Jai-Ho-Slumdog-Millionaire.html
 '
has made. It's not as if I coined it on the spot for *Slumdog
 Millionaire*,
says Gulzar saab after hearing that '*Jai Ho*' has been nominated on
Thursday in prestigious category of 'Best Song Written For A Motion
 Picture'
  at the Grammys.

'*Jai Ho*' is a term that is as ancient as it is sacrosanct. I would
 sound
extremely foolish if I took any credit for that phrase or for the success
 of
that song. The entire credit must go to Rahman and Rahman alone. He has
taken our popular sounds to an international level.

On hearing of his song '*Jai Ho*' being nominated for the coveted Grammy,
the song's writer Gulzar saab makes a startling observation and
 suggestion.
Both me and Rahman have done work that has been like before. What makes
 '*Jai
Ho*' special was that it was part of a non-Indian film. *Slumdog
 Millionaire
  * is not an Indian film. Just like *Gandhi* was not. We need to
 understand
that international recognition comes to us when India is packaged into a
non-Indian vehicle. Slumdog Millionaire could vie for mainstream American
and European awards because it was an international film. Otherwise our
films like *Neecha Nagar, Mother India, Do Beegha Zameen* and the films
 of
Mrinal Sen and Satyajit Ray have been nominated in the 'foreign'
categories. Gulzar saab has a suggestion. Let's have a category for
 best
foreign cinema in our National awards so that we too have a chance to
  recognize films made outside India.

As for '*Jai Ho*' acquiring a life much longer than the film, Gulzar saab
says, When I wrote '*Jai Ho*' I was looking for a phrase that would best
represent Indian sentiments. That it's now gone from the Oscars where
 movies
are honoured, to the Grammys where music gets recognized, is an amazing
journey for '*Jai Ho*'. Like I said it's from the Ramayan to Rahman. I
 will
  take no credit for it.

[arr] In Fond Memory of Sridhar Sir..

2009-11-29 Thread Rakesh R
On the 28th of November, 11 of us(fans of AR) took time out of our routine
to Donate lunch to kids at an Orphanage in Chennai and spent some time
there. This was initiated in fond memory of the Great sound engineer Mr. H.
Sridhar, who passed away an year back.

The orphanage was a small one and managed by a trust by name, Kaakum
Karangal. There were a total of 60 people taken care by the trust of which
there were 30 Boys, 20 Girls and 10 elderly people. We sponsored the day's
lunch for them and it was a special meal with sweets, and other savories.

We went there by about 1 in the afternoon. We thought we could serve, but as
it turned out they had a completely different system of service, a highly
disciplined and military style; the children were made to sit in 4 rows with
plates in their hand. And the food was kept at one end with 2 elderly people
serving it. The kids took their turns, in a very orderly fashion, to get the
food. They were served by the elders. After filling their plates they sat in
their place. Once they settled with the food, they gave a 2 minutes' prayer,
all reciting aloud. It was so good to witness 60 people saying out the
prayer aloud. Sent out so much positive vibes. :)

After that they sat there, happily eating. We could see that joy in their
eyes and that was joy to us. Food filling their stomach and our hearts..

This was the perfect way to pay tribute to a genius like Sridhar sir,
spreading joy in his name..
He continues to live in all our Memories.. May his soul RIP.

Thanks Regards,
Rakesh R

poetic sense may have been lost in translation, but hopefully the meaning
has been conveyed and that the music itself makes up for any flaws of my

All your wonderful comments have inspired me to complete my next project,

Re: [arr] The Significance of ARR's White House Invitation

2009-11-25 Thread Rakesh R
Good write up.. And yeah, the last thing AR would want is to be recognised
when he takes a walk on the streets of LA. :D

On Wed, Nov 25, 2009 at 12:26 PM, ichord purev...@yahoo.com wrote:

As ARR fans, we are of course pleased that ARR was allowed to showcase osme
of his talents in a very exclusive atmosphere at the White House State
Dinner, the first one under the Obama administration. The larger picture of
this struck me when I read a FB post of another ARR fan who mentioned its
 significance.

Was ARR the logical/default choice of a performer given the Indian/American
partnership being celebrated at The White House? One could argue that. But,
I think the fact that ARR was selected alongside a list of very popular and
distinguished artists highlights his overall esteemed status in the West
post Slumdog, largely because of Slumdog, but not just because of Slumdog.

ARR is now a brand name, exclusivity personified when it comes to high
quality popular Indian music, and recently his musical entrance into
hollywood with Couple's Retreat being met with overall praise and
appreciation by both East and West only adds to his towering resume. In
India, he has always been a celebrity since Roja, but now, even in the West,
he has achieved celebrity status through his accolades and efforts, which
will continue to be appreciated as he continues to build on his hollywood
career. While he is not a household name in the US and will likely never
reach public celebrity status like superstar pop musicians (which to me is a
good thing!), the global respect and admiration for his work is right up
there amongst the musical elite around the world. No other MD in India has
 achieved this before.

How fitting that India's Mozart be recognized world wide, but to me, it's
not a given that he would achieve this. While I had always hoped and prayed
that his talents would be recognized outside of India, I was very cautious
about my hopes, since it's not talent alone that achieves this, but the
right timing, smart decision making, marketing, personal relationship
skills, attitude, contacts, and little bit of good ol good luck.

I hope that the Obamas get a chance to delve into ARR's music beyond
Slumdog and uncover more musical riches.

some awesome numbers which they wold have never otherwise... I have got

 Felt good to know so!
Singing Hindi versions over Tamil versions may not be the best option.
Chandralekha sounds best in Tamil, known fact. Hence. The other songs were
 in Hindi only.
Chandralekha in Hindi did not sound too good in Delhi..the tamil portions
 were way better.
ARR's speciality is his improvisations.. and he does them with style!
especially raagas and aalaps.. there is so much fun hearing a new version!
The CD is always there for the original.
One could see how much fun AR had while singing Fiqrana... He was into it!
The way he was touching the Fiqrna notes... he was so enjoying it!
let's give it him..he created the song... will post the entry video
soon..forgetting lyrics is a part of the live show business..and that's
another beauty..how ARR can hum it off or alaap it off! I totally enjoy the
 live act! :)
Mausan and escape start was nothing but some jamming session..to create a
build up for the act to follow..
Rehna tu.. he usually hums the entire continuum, those who attended the
previous shows must be familiar..this time he played the harmonica on it..
something unusual.. sounded good..maybe vocally he went off and came back at
some places..but was a good performance.. he would actually touch higher
 notes in this song...
Naveen was there for the bombay theme..the singers were not there..and this
was only to support the Visual credits on the LEDs..
This concert AR actually opened up..u hardly hear him shout and say
Welcome Kolkata...this is the Jai ho o o o o concert! ;) and he also spoke
on and off and in between two songs!! And he had some energy in Khalbali!
 Must mention that!!
Rajib...coming all the way to the concert must have been fun and worth it!
There are still so many fans in group and otherwise who have not had the
good fortune of seeing him live. Enjoy the moments.
Appreciate how u write about the show, but to just let u know, after having
seen enough shows.. improvisations, mistakes, lyrical errors are part of the
 game.
If u could not hear the song, then it's a complain, for sure!! But that you
could hear improvised versions of the alaaps, the sounds were fine, right!?

On tap for this evening: the National Symphony

The guests – about 350 to 400 – will savor the hottest event in

according to people familiar with the planning. More details will be
released later in the day, including the guest list and the menu (which

group? I've seen some people at times ask Gops and/ or Vijay to confirm any
news. Can anyone name the 10 oldest members of the group. Thank you.

 Dear All,

December 1st, 2008 was the sad day , when Mr. H Sridhar, the astounding
Sound Engineer passed away . This year Dec 1st falls on Tuesday. We a group
of Fan members were thinking, as to why not spend a day with an orphanage in
 Chennai, sponsor them special lunch.

So, we have tentatively thinking of spending next Sunday in an orphanage
in West Mambalam, Chennai. We shall sponsor special lunch for the kids there
and dedicate the day for Mr. Sridhar.

 More details to follow...

My comments on A.R.Rahman's Jai ho concert @SaltLake
 Stadium,Kolkata,India

   14th November,2009

I did my Passport ,visa just to attend this concert (Let's not say how much
struggle i had to doto get my passport visa done, just to make dis writing
 shorter)

I dint had any passport . .as i never went outside Bangladesh,no Place ever
attracted me that much to visit it(even inside BD) ,may be i was waiting for
something special like this one. So,here I am. . .new country, new city,
Outside of motherland for the first time. . .just to see Mr. Allaha Rakha
Rahman for the first time.Luckily language and the huge number of relatives
was a plus point here, otherwise it would have been impossible for me to
 attend dis Concert.

Ok,let's start da main part of this writing, which is describing the whole
Concert in MY WAY. . .at first the cheking wasnt enough, there was no metal
detector or anything like that,no one even hand searched anyone, which was
very risky in my view, thankfully therz no mishap :-)

I hated the starting portion of some organaizer ppl's speech, expected
Sourav Ganguly to be there, but later thanked him not to be there as that
 saved our precious time

 @6:45pm . . ARR came up on stage with a lift singing . . Jaage hain. . .i
found it too repetitive . . Saw this kinda entry with this perticuler song
in many of his concerts . . .there are huge number of masterpieces to
replace this one. . .but his performance rocked in it !!

Then . . .khalbali . . Same with it. . .repetative but performance rocked.
. Audience just gone crazy after this

*Singing tamil songs in West bangla was a BIG MISTAKE* , it was like a
foreign film without subtitle to atleast 95 % of them present there,i loved
Atthiradi . . As i was a huge fan of dis powerpacked song, but west bangla
Audience couldnt just relate to it,only i was shouting the song from the
crowd, and i could see ppl were in a shock, they never heard of this and
allmost all tamil tracks (that is what i felt being there, and being a
bengali. . .forgive me if therz any exception). . .when i was singing all
tamil songs, ppl around me was looking at me weirdly, may b wondering how this
long haired boy can sing in this weird language,as they heard me talking in
bangla as well [?] . . . A Big thanks from my side to arr for performing
tamil tracks in kolkata. . .but mass people dint like it.

Hariharan's Nahin samne stole hearts of Classical lovers of west bangla, saw
one old guy beside me enjoyin it fully. .. . I dnt need to comment on
Hariharan's performance at concerts. . .he is always perfect.

Delhi6 title track and then jiya se jiya made the mass crowd cheer up after
nahin samne. . .but there was some mistakes in both these tracks, happens in
 a live performance . . Nevamind.

Then lady lush came with killer dancing performance with Liquid dance . .
Audience (including me) were in shock to see this kinda dance in a ARR
 concert,it was just WOW . .

Then the Bangla track Ekla cholo . . I knew it will b played here. .
.thought Nachiketa ,the main singer of the Bangla part of dis song would b
there, ppl would just love it. . He is da ARR of west bangla. . .but Javed
ali was more than perfect in accent and singing both sonu nachiketa's
part. . One of the most loved track of dis concert

Sadhna ji started with Kehna hi kya . . I was very happy. .. . The dancers
behind set da environment there, then sadhna ji's singing . . Awesome stuff.
. .but ARR's performance in those sa re ga ma part was bad . . He forgot
it totally, and managed to complete it being totally away from the original
part, i dint like it,i am a huge fan of dat part of dis song. . .then it was
again sadhna ji with jiya jale. . Her performance rocked . .and it's one of
da most populer track of ARR in both Bangla. . So u can imagine the
 exitement.

I also didnt like Arr's Fiqrana performance, and the music was nowhere close
to the original. . .arr forgot the lyrics in someplace, sang out of tune in
someplace. . .I think it was perfect @ reharsel,as far as i can remember. .
Dnt knw how they messed up with it the next day. . .the sound system was
also at it's best at reharsel . . .bt @ the concert. . .there was indeed
 some problems [?][?][?]
Sometimes there was some bad sounds, and in one place arr's singing was not
 audible at all . .

But his Dil se just rocked. . . He was @ top of dat lift. . .the look was
awesome. . .i would have loved if he had sung the tamil version of it, but
 mass audience wont. . .

Then again Lady Lush back with another powerpacked dancing and rapping on
Konjum nilavu. . .with neeti muhan. . .but alas most of the audience never
heard of the tamil version. . .so they couldnt sing with the singers./.But
they surly heard of the hindi version

I am scared that I have to wait even longer for original compositions in Tamil,

I am scared that Madhushree will now be singing in English.

I am scared that all of a sudden an ARR album will cost Rs.500.

I am scared that Vithur and other rippers will be sued for ripping the BGM a

I am scared that the new, young, bold and innovative directors of India might
be scared to approach Rahman seeing the Spielbergs, Maniratnams, Mehras,
Shyamalans, Tarantinos, Wachowskis, Scoreseses and so on, at the A.M Studio.

I am scared that Rahman will now have critics for the sake of criticism from
all over the world.

I am scared that next time I attend Rahman's concert I might be only able to
afford a seat at least 543 rows back.

I am scared that Yahoo might send a notice to Gopal and Vijay for clogging
Yahoo's bandwidth.

Yes. I am seriously scared that Oscars will win Rahman!

For the first time in life, I am happy to be scared!!

Friends,

It's good to bask in the unprecedented run of success that ARR has been having.
But it's a thin
line that separates confidence and over-confidence. It's important that we
don't lose sight of
those very qualities that has taken ARR to the heights he has reached. Let's be
humble and
let's pray.

some of which i remember :
1. Bombay : A childs voices in the bombay theme.
2. Kadalan/Hum Se Hai Muqabla: Voice similar to the chicken in Gopala Gopala
2. Taal : Rain drops at the start in Taal se taal mila
3. Jodha Akbar: Sword clinging sound in Azeemo-shaan Shehanshah.

Few days back somebody pointed out that SDM is a British film and films like
SDM and harry potter will never be nominated fro Oscars..they have better

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Full_Monty

The Full Monty was nominated for a total of four Academy Awards: Best Picture,
Best Director, Best Original Music Score, and Best Original Screenplay.

So i think we can see SDM on nomination charts as well as Winners List. And our

Rahman proposes, Himesh disposes

A R Rahman wants Himesh Reshammiya to sing his composition; but Himesh has
other plans

By Ashwini Deshmukh
Posted On Wednesday, November 19, 2008

Himesh Reshammiya
Himesh Reshammiya had once said that if he had to sing for any music director
other than
himself, it would have to be for A R Rahman. Now, Rahman has come up with a
composition, which
he thinks is apt for Himesh to sing.

Rahman said, “Yes, I have come up with a composition that Himesh can do justice
to. It is an
important song for a big actor, in a huge project and for a big banner. But
since the shooting
of this song will happen only next year, it will be wrong on my part to
disclose too many
details about it at this time.”

• I don’t sing for any outside banner (where I don’t act). I would instead
request Rahman
saab to give music for one of my films where I am the actor and singer – Himesh
Reshammiya

So what made Rahman choose Himesh for the song? Rahman said, “Himesh’s voice
and the attitude
with which Himesh sings is just apt for this composition. I haven’t spoken to
Himesh as yet but
I will be talking to him very soon.”

When we told Himesh about Rahman’s plans, he said, “I am a great fan of AR
Rahman and his
music. It’s a great honour for me to sing his composition, but as a policy
decision, I only
sing for myself onscreen. I don’t sing for any outside banner (where I don’t
act).

A R Rahman
I would instead request Rahman saab to give music for one of my films where I
am the actor and
singer. In fact, if he agrees, it will be a dream come true. In my forthcoming
films Kajra Re,
Mudh Mudh Ke Na Dekh Mudh Mudh Ke, A New Love Ishstory, and an untitled film
for Studio 18, at
least one composition in each album is dedicated to Rahman saab. I just love
his music

Subject: [arr] The best message I got after Jaane Tu… was from A. R Rahman:
Abbas

I'm here only because I had courage to ignore Ram Gopal Varma: Abbas Tyrewala
By Subhash K Jha

Abbas Tyrewala who started his career as a lyric writer has gone back
to his roots. Last month he flew to Chennai to write the Hindi lyrics
for A R Rahman's score for the chartbusting sounstrack Boys.

Says Abbas, This is the first time I've done something like this,
convert the Tamil songs which are huge hits into Hindi for the dubbed
Hindi version. The trick is to not translate the original words which I
couldn't anyway because I don't know Tamil, but to go with the flow and
rhythm.

Abbas started his career as a lyricist. But lyric writing was
never a serious vocation. I did it as a passion and hobby. I wrote
songs for Ram Gopal Varma's Love Ke Liye Kuch Bhi Karega, E Niwas's Dum
and Hansal Mehta's Dil Pe Mat Le Yaar. My lyrics were quite wacky. That
chracterizes everything I deal with, including my finances.

Abbas wanted to cast Farhan Akhtar in Jaane Tu… At that time I didn't know
Farhan was seriously interested in acting.

I
wanted to cast him in role of Sushant (played by Ayaz Khan), the
debonair slightly arrogant character. Then when I heard Farhan was
seriously interested in acting, doing leads I banished the thought. I
think all writers-turned- directors would make a good actor.Me? I'd also
act well if cast well, in a wacky role.

Last month Abbas was actually mobbed in a mall in Chennai. These two
girls came up to me for a picture. We've had much bigger hits but
somewhere people have connected with Jaane Tu….

The
place I am in today comes from my having the intelligence to ignore Ram
Gopal Varma years ago when I was writing a film called Ek for him. He
had told me to change my name because he found my name to be too
bizarre to be taken seriously as a writer. I stuck to my name. It's a
difficult name and difficult face to forget.

The era of star-directors seems to be upon us.

Says Abbas, Before Karan Johar there were Sooraj Barjatya and Aditya
Chopra. The only reason they weren't stars is because they were
reclusive. These were the first directors whose names were bigger than
the actors.

Then
there was Ramu. But the culmination of this trend is Sanjay Leela
Bhansali. With due respects he isn't a recluse like Sooraj Barjatya or
Adi Chopra.

These guys stayed away from the limelight because
they wanted the film to be bigger than them. Sanjay is very clear he
wants his name to be as big as his cinema. He's no producing his own
films. I'm turning co-producer with my next film because I want to own
my own films.

Shekhar Kapoor says it's very difficult to be
simple.Does Abbas agree? I don't know. Different things come naturally
to different people. I've a bit of Woody Allen in me.

Honestly I never knew how Jaane Tu…Jane Na would turn out. The problem
was not whether people would like Imran Khan. The problem was, would
they respond to such a non-violent pacifist hero?

The best message I got after Jaane Tu… was from A. R Rahman. He said this film
would many open doors for me. And it did.

A lot of writers don't succeed that well as directors. That's because
they give a playwright's touch to their dialogue-baazi. I'm completely
involved with the cinematic medium. Jaane Tu… is my most commercial
film. Now I want to march to my own drum beat.

Abbas feels for too long he has been considered an avante-garde writer.
Do you know Munnabhai MBBS was originally meant to be a 1.5 crore film
with Om Puri in the lead? Fortunately Vinod Chopra saw something in it.

Abbas is not fully satisfied with Rock On, the second cult hit after
his Jaane Tu…Jaane Na this year. I had some issues with Rock On. But
then I've major issues with my own film also It's a very interesting
premise.

Quite
well shot a times. A few moments worked for me. But given the kind of
reviews I had read, I was a little underwhelmed by Rock On. But then
Arjun Rampal on stage looks like a few million bucks.

Subject: [arr] THE DAY I MET REHANAJI,

I had a chance to meet Rahmanji's sister Rehanaji. She shared a few
incidents about thier childhoo days to me. Am sharing it here now,

Rehanaji said during schooldays Rahmanji was equally naughty as any
other boy of that age. She and Rahmanji used to fight always for
almost everything. She also said that there would be no oral fights
ever. Everytime they fought they used to hit eachother.

Rahmanji used to get more angryand fight woth her most of the time
because whatever the minimum number of friends he had used to go and
play with Rehanaji at once they returned from school. Because
Rehanaji used to throw off her bags and go out to play after the
school but our Rahmanji used to come home and sit with the Harmonium
after school.

She shared more expeiences about them playing indoor games.
Rahmanji used to play only indoor games during his childhood. His
most favourites were carrom board and chess. He used to win over
Rehanaji everytime they played carrom. Even if Rehanaji was in a
stronger position to win Rahmanji would win the game by taking out
his coins from the board when Rehanaji does not know. Everytime
Rahmanji cheated the game would finally end in a big clash and a
fight as usual. Rehanaji shared this incident very happily.

She said after 20 Rahmanji became more silent and involved himself
fully into music all the time. She said there was a time when she
used to advice him but times changed when she started learning more
things from Rahmanji. She said they speak more about spiritualism
and music nowadaya. I would really fail on my dity if I dont
mention about the prayer she had in between the chat. She very
plitely said she'll be back after her prayers and went for prayer.
This shows the level of devotion to God in Rahmanji's family.

She shared more experiences like the emotional way Rahmanji's songs
are. She remembered a daybefore the audio release of the movie
Karuthama. She had the audio cassette with her. That was the time
when they were building their house. She had gone to the terrace
alone to check the amount of work getting completed. She said she
listened to Porale ponnu thaye at that time and unkowingly she had
tears flowing down from her eyes. She says Rahmanji's songs always
takes time to grow on you. She feels that all the MD's are getting
inspired from the works of Rahmanji.

She then remembered another incident about the recording session in
Rahmanji's studio for the song Poovukenna Pottu from BOMBAY. There
is a baby which smiles in the song. Rhamanji asked Rehanaji to
record her daughters voice for it which was only 6 months old. She
then brought her child and made her sit before the mike. The baby
started laughing in the beginning but soon started to cry at the top
of its voice and it never stopped. So Rahmanji had to record the
cry. Rehanaji became very confused on what Rahmanji would do with a
crying sound because the songs itself was nee siricha deewana but
Rahmanji had changed the cry to laugh somehow and inserted it in the
song.

These were the few incidents she had shared with me. Am really
grateful to God for giving me an oppotunity to meet someone from
Rahmanji's family. Although i haven't met Rahmanji in person, I
found myself very lucky to have met Rehanaji who made me feel very
comfortable throughout. Thanks alot to her too.

She also said gajini audio is soon to release.

Sorry bros if it was too boring. Felt i should share it with
everyone.

Regards,
Janardhanan R.

Subhash Ghai recently got very overwhelmed with emotions at the music launch of
his soon to be released musical extravaganza `Yuvvraaj'. While the occasion was
very important to him, there was one special guest who made it all the more
extraordinary for him and that was Karima Begum, mother of musical maestro A.R.
Rahman.

It was for the first time that Karima Begum made her public appearance. She
flew all the way from her home town Chennai to Mumbai just to inaugurate the
Music of `Yuvvraaj' where she presented the first CD to Subhashji.

Subhashji still gets emotional reminiscing the day After the music
inauguration of `Yuvvraaj' I went to my room and while contemplating about the
entire day I remembered my own late mother who made me what I am today…she
taught me the value of relationships, love, she brought music to my life and of
course the significance of blessings from near and dear ones. I was very close
to my mother and even though she is not around but I can still feel her
presence even today. When I first met Karimaji, I found the same love,
simplicity and power in her; she brought the same smile on my face as my mom
did. Yuvvraaj's music is scorching heights on the music charts all over the
world and it has to be a blessing up from above.

Yuvvraaj produced by Mukta Arts Limited, will release on 21st November, 2008

player from somewhere. They came back saying a little boy was there - I was
okay with the 11-year-old! he smiles. From placing his fingers on the
keyboard to helping him play, he's proud of his 'little spark' who has sure has
gone places.

Pyramid Saimira to no longer star in Marma Yogi
D GOVARDAN. Financial Chronicle
Chennai
Article Rank

THE Chennai-based theatrical chain company,
Pyramid Saimira Theatres
(PSTL) last big carrot to
dangle market attention
seems to have just slipped
away from its grasp. Marma
Yogi, the much touted magnum opus of Kamal Haasan
has now been postponed
indefinitely.
Marma Yogi was to have
been produced by PSTL on
a first copy basis through an
arrangement with Kamal Haasan's Rajkamal Films
International. To be made
in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi,
the initial estimates placed
the production cost of the
film at around Rs 120 crore.
He (Kamal Haasan) is
not doing Marma Yogi now.
It has been postponed, an
associate, privy to the developments at Rajkamal Films
International told Financial
Chronicle.
The project has been
postponed indefinitely as
the star is now gearing up to
do another project instead.
Discussions are already underway with a few film
companies, he added,
when quizzed further.
Marma Yogi was to feature Kamal Haasan in the lead and he was also billed
to direct it. Two female
leads – Trisha and Shriya
Saran — were also roped in
with plumb roles for the
period film, which was positioned as a 'high cost, high
value' film by Pyramid
Saimira Group.
It already had several
false-starts, with a few
deadlines fixed for film's
launch and also for the
commencement of the
shooting. The launch venue
too shifted from Chennai to
Mumbai. But, the project
failed to start till date.
In fact, industry apprehensions over Pyramid
Saimira's ability to take the
film forward were raised
quite a few months back
and rumours that the actor
may join hands with another company for the film also
started doing the rounds.
Subsequently, both Pyramid
Saimira and Kamal Haasan
came out with a joint statement in the third week of
August this year, reposing
their faith in each other's
capability in taking up the
project.
Rajkamal Films International has signed an
agreement with Pyramid
Saimira Group. Any news to
the contrary is a slur on
our bonafide partnership
Kamal Haasan had then
said in his statement, issued
along with that of Pyramid
Saimira.
Marma Yogi has not
been dropped. We are renogiating the terms, an
official with PSTL told FC
on condition of anonymity.

Subject: [arr] Interesting writeup on Rahman's music from naachgaana

I respect this member a lot and he usually has very intelligent
comments. This is a response to the thread about Yuvvraaj's music
being declared best music of the year by T Series.

Rahman is always ahead of the competition. I don't say this as a
matter of faith. There are other albums I've liked, other songs I've
been addicted to (the Bhool Bhulaiya title track has been the single
most addictive one for me in recent times!). But what we have to
recognize and/or understand is that Rahman moves at a level of music
composition (in the widest sense of the term) that is way beyond that
of anyone else on the contemporary scene (for example SEL and V-S
have admitted as much in different contexts). A Rahman album can be
average by his standards but not with respect to the competition. We
might often prefer other albums and composers the way one loves fast
food even as one understands it's not high cuisine. A failed
Beethoven musical work still does not equate Beethoven with John
Williams! Much as a mediocre work by Tagore is only so by the poet's
lofty standards and does not exactly make Prasoon Joshi better than
him even on the latter's best day! I mean this sort of analogy when I
compare Rahman with the competition. The `gifts' Rahman displays are
simply far in excess to those other composers (assuming one can use
the label for all of them and I have my doubts!) reveal. It's not
just a matter of `tune' but also musical arrangements, transitions
within songs, what I would impressionistically call the 'surprises'
Rahman offers, the counter-intuitive features of his melodies, so on
and so forth. One should just look at the list of instruments Rahman
uses in each album. This is just one index of his skills as a
composer. But there are many elements that are lost on the untrained
ear (including my own) which is why it is important to pay close
attention to what informed reviewers (in India, such as the great
Ustads in their fields and only occasionally among `critics', and
elsewhere in the West) say about his work. For example I recall
reading when Swades came out that Rahman had used a very rare raag in
one of the songs (I forget which one). This again points to the
extent to which Rahman is familiar with the repertoire of his field
in both the classical and the popular sense. Just recently he has
suggested that anyone `who likes Beethoven' will like Yuvvraaj. There
is a lot to be pondered on when one hears such a statement. And then
as one goes through the gamut of one's career one sees everything
really in his 'smorgasbord' (Qalandar's word I think in what was the
best piece I have ever come across on Rahman's music) from North
Indian forms to Carnatic ones, from jungle beats to classical stuff
reminiscent of Bach. And one could multiply these examples. So it's
not a question of blindly judging Rahman the best. it is also about
paying `attention'.

Subject: [arr] AR Rahman is to music what the Champions T20 League is to cricket

ESS to give Champions T20 League a big marketing push

With less than a month to go for the start of inaugural Champions T20 League,
ESPN Star Sports (ESS) is planning an extensive marketing campaign to create
awareness.
Targeting the family, the campaign will kick off later this week and cover
print, television, radio, online and outdoors.
We want to position this event as being completely different from anything
else including the IPL. It is the first of its kind since it only has the
champion sides. So we came up with the tag line Champions Takre Toh Game Hi
Badal Jaye, says ESS marketing director Nirmal Dayani.
ESS got the ball rolling by getting AR Rahman to compose the anthem. The music
video is being put together. We want to emphasise the fact that AR Rahman is
to music what the Champions T20 League is to cricket.
The message that ESS is looking to send out is that when one talks of the
Champions T20 League there is no comparison with anything else in this sport.
The same applies to AR Rahman and his music.
Dayani adds that cricketers who will take part in the event will be used in the
campaign. The channel is shooting creatives with them. This is especially
important since the channel is looking to create team loyalties and have fans
bond with their favourite side and stars.
Dayani adds that while the event will have all the excitement and entertainment
associated with the T20 format, the fact that only champions are taking part in
this event gives it an aspirational dimension.
ESS is looking at tying up with retail outlets and other companies fior cross
promotions. We are in the process of finalising the deals. The aim is to offer
consumers an enriched experience, says Dayani.

The Champions T20 League takes place from 3-10 December 2008. Eight teams take
part including Chennai Superkings and Rajasthan Royals who will represent
India. The finals will be held in Mumbai.

[arr] Marmayogi to be Shelved for a few months.. :(

2008-11-06 Thread Rakesh Rajan
Kamal Hassan’s next film project titled Marmayogi which has Trisha, Hema
Malini, Shriya and Shobana in the lead is said to be in doldrums due to
financial constraint. The project is already estimated to be a 120 crore
project and Kamal is eager to start the film project.Already Pyramid Samaira is
financing this project and will also take the distribution rights. But due to
the debacle of Kuselan at the box office the financiers of Pyramid Samaira are
rethinking on this project.

Kamal Hassan is deterred with this issue and is said to take up this project on
his own with the support of some NRI’s. Kamal Hassan received a big blow
yesterday when one of the NRI’s who supported this project backed off by saying
that he is not having enough faith in this film.
The films script is said to be based on ancient civilization concept and may be
the project can be shelved for almost three to six months.

[arr] ARR @ Oscars

2008-10-30 Thread rakesh kumar
Hi all,

If SDM is nominated in the best original score category, the ARR will be
performing at Oscars. Now that is one hell of a sight.

I hope to see it in the next oscars. fingers crossed.

Totally agree with you jiban.

We have to look forward. Dil se .. Bombay .. Roja ..are all gems from ARR..
which we all will cherish.. but we should look forward and appreciate gems like
Yuvvraaj which is different and excellent in his own standard.

I stongly disagree with the way Jahanzeb categorising 'class'

for ARR's music..though Dil se, Roja and Bombay are masterpieces

..ARR has grown mature with Lagaan, Swades,JA and Yuvvraaj..

Those who are disqualifying Yuvvraaj music, shows their lack

of knowledge of Western classical music..

Its timne for us to walk with Rahman sir forward rather

getting nostalgic about past glories..

We have to come out of our shell now..

well i sincerely pray that the film becomes a hit. otherwise the

music

will quickly disappear. barring 2-3 songs the rest do not have a

mass

 appeal.

now about comparing with Bombay, Taal, Dil Se, ... for me it is

complete nonsense. yuvraaj can never be close to these

masterpieces.

for me if the above four fall in class 1 of ARR then Yuvraaj falls

in

class 4. Lagaan, Saathiya, Earth 47, Sapnay, Rangeela etc are

class 2. JA, JTYJN, RDB, Guru etc are class 3. Yuva, kabhi na kabhi

etc fall in

 class 5.

Giving it further thought, I feel that Taal/ yuvraaj music are
