Right now, i am just waiting for a meeting to happen with a prospective

I got time and thought to relax with Rahman Sirs music...

To calm my mind the songs immediately came to me were, Pachai Nirame...from
Alaippayuthe... then..Vellai pookkal...From kannathil muthamittal...Mustaffa
from Kadal Desham and all...

These came just random...I was wondering we go through so many situations
like this..maybe some client meeting...some interview...some date...some
tragedy..some celebration like wedding or birthday or anniversary or just a
get together...?

I am sure there will be some or the other songs for each situation by AR
Rahman Sir

Now, coming to the topic, lets start a discussion on various moods and their
most appropriate song (3 atleast).. What say, friends...?

I dont know whether i had seen any thread like this

4. When you are with your wife...
5. After having a fight with your wife..

 Big dreams in the pipeline

Flautist Navin Iyer on working with his mentor A.R. Rahman, his
collaborative album and his experiments with unusual flutes

It’s what you might call a quintessential Chennai music success story — boy
begins learning Carnatic music at the age of three-and-a-half; has his flute
arangetram in his teens presided over by acclaimed vocalist,
Balamuralikrishna; does jingles with his childhood friend (music director
G.V. Prakash) when he is just out of school ; is ‘discovered’ by the movie
industry at Saarang, where he does a hat-trick as best instrumentalist three
years running while studying engineering; and turns down a job with Infosys
to end up working with none other than A.R. Rahman.

Meet Navin Iyer, who at 24 is one of the most in-demand flautists in the
film music industry, having recorded for over 500 movies in Tamil, Telugu,
 Malayalam, Kannada and Hindi.

“I think I’m the youngest musician in the cine industry — not counting
singers,” says the young flautist (and self-taught saxophonist) as we meet
at his brand new personal studio in the heart of Mylapore.

Life is hectic since, as he explains, he’s one of a handful of flute
‘session artistes’ in the country. “Being a session artiste is another skill
altogether,” he says, lounging behind the studio computer in an old pair of
jeans and faded T-shirt. “The music director will demand a particular feel
for a song, which you have to deliver; at the same time, you have to be able
to add your own creativity and compose on the spot. You should be able to
change gears between the two immediately.”

Recordings may last just a few minutes — his flute piece for ‘Akkam Pakkam’
from Kireedam took just four (“sometimes things just fall into place”) — or
up to two hours for background scores, which generally take longer. “You
need to watch the movie scene to get in sync with it,” he says, comparing
the process to being ‘in a relationship’. “Unless you spend time with it,
talk to it, you won’t get the exact feel.”

One movie scene is etched in his memory for good — the one in Rang De
Basanti, his first recording for Rahman. “He just called me and said ‘can
you come?’” he recalls, still sounding awed. “My flute comes in the
background score of the scene after Madhavan’s character dies… it was a very
emotional scene, very emotional for me too!”

Since then, he’s played for a number of Rahman’s projects, including the
big one, Slumdog Millionaire. “The morning of the recording for Slumdog…I’d
actually overslept, but luckily made it in time,” he says, adding with a
laugh, “And then, my God, the Oscar!”

He travels quite a bit for recordings, and sometimes, music directors
travel to him, such as Vishal of Vishal-Shekhar who came down to Chennai
just to record the flute track for Aakhon mein teri from Om Shanti Om,
because he liked Navin’s ‘ideas and style’ .

“Earlier, music directors would have the entire score written and cine
musicians played according to that,” comments Navin. “Now music directors
are more open; they enjoy it when we give our inputs. It adds a new
 dimension to a song.”

Gone also are the days when session artistes had to come together at one
time to record a song; today, with the magic of track technology, individual
artistes can play their parts when they have time and “ping pong on to the
next recording,” he says. “Right now, for example, I’m practising during the
day for my concert tour with Earthsync, so I’m often recording through the
 night.”

The day we meet, he’d been at Malayalam music director Ouseppachan’s studio
at T. Nagar recording till 4 a.m., had gotten a couple of hours of sleep,
hit the gym (“it keeps you kicking”), and fit in our interview before a
practice session at 10 a.m. That’s the way he likes it — busy, with plenty
of variety. At his studio is a specially-made glass flute which he’s been
experimenting with. Next up is one made of clay, another of marble and a
 saxophone of bamboo.

Ready to roll out is a collaborative album, ‘Three 4 the Music’, with
mridangist D.A. Srinivas and violinist Raghavendra Rao that connects
Carnatic music with everything from blues and jazz to Irish folk music
(which translates as karaharapriyaragam, he tells me). And for the future,
he wants to compose his own music.

“I want to explore, expand my horizons and focus on my versatility,” he
says. “I don’t want to get stuck in a small circle of experience.”

 *Trivia*

Navin Iyer has collaborated with Vikku Vinayakram, Bombay Jayashri, Kadri
Gopalnath and T.V. Gopalakrishnan on one hand, and U.K. percussionist James
Asher, Earthsync and numerous DJs on the other.

He sometimes does up to seven cine recordings a day.

He sang on the title track

 hey!

i don't know about all that. Just that i am a huge fan of headphones and i
try and collect some rare or some sorta expensive ones. But in audio stuff
expensive does not mean good!..there are some basic ipod headphones for even
1000 rupees by sennheiser that are damn cool, esply the bass response. Try
it or try 'JBL reference' headphones i think it costs 2500 rupees, an
 absolute stunner.

OK, here is the little i know and it works

 *Home Theatre*

Dont go by the number of speakers. Some sony models come with 5 center
button speakers and woofer of 4 channels thats like 11 speakers!! - Farce.
Just take any 850RMS above home theatre with auto/manual calibration. Use
manual calibration for rear right and rear left and notch it by say 1.5 dB.
treble sounds crispper then. Works for ALL RAHMAN DISCS.

Don't go by the size of the woofer. As long as its in a wooden box its
fine. However, don't ever push the woofer into a corner of the room. It booms
and the bass reproduction is wrong. You are looking for a rumble not windows
rattling. Move your woofer about half feet away from walls. Test it by
playing Maula Maula track from Delhi 6 ( a suble bass line that sounds so
 great!!)

If you have some cash to blow try these

- Jamo S 606 home speaker systems
- Harmom Kardon HKTS series

And yes, i agree Bose is over rated. Its great but lot of other guys have
caught on and now theres very little difference. Go right ahead and by
anything nice thats has packed speakers in wood. Not plastic.

And if you get a DVD/CD player with the package but it. Normally u only
get an AMP. In that case PLEASE do not compromise on your DVD player. Don't
 fit local ones.

Play CDs and not MP3s in these systems to judge the output.

Sometimes we might feel the bass or treble is low while playing a CD. But
the sonic range is usually very rich and if you just change your seat it
 might sound better.

 *CD players *
 *
 *
I sometimes think standlone systems sound way better. When you buy a HiFI
or a mini HiFi, try and locate one with a manual EQ. This feature is
becoming quite rare and i hate it. I found a pair from Wharfedale quite
stunning. But then don't break your head!, but any neat wooden bookshelf
speakers with system of about 150 RMS will be just fine for a small room.
 Like a Hostel room.

 *Headphones*
 *
 *
Firstly, throw your iPOD headphones into the trash. The device works fine,
but pathetic headphones. For your regular use like running,GYMing etc buy the
Sennheiser that comes in a green box ( don't know the model number). Costs
about 1500 rupees. It takes your iPOD audio to a different level. However, i
found HD 595 Senheisser the awesomest one! Bose also works, but dont pay
that much seriously. MP3 is MP3, you wont get some magic extra sounds and
most of today's bollywood music is compressed and fedility is missing ( this
included BLUE also, sorry ...). Blue sounds bad even in good headphones.
 Seriously, whats with that?

 *Audiophiles thingy*
 *
 *
Well, investing on sound is not a bad idea only if you are listening to
that kind of a material in its original medium. And this does not include
Original MP3 CDs! Some of these Sony CD contain 'Super MP3!!' what the heck
 is that!

The thing is, Audiophiles range is no doubt superior but it depends a lot
on listening ambiance. Mostly we live in apartments with lot of world noises
and volume issues. With this we only end up under utilizing the machines.
And if you hookup an MP3 player you are just wasting your money in those.

Most materials are not produced for Audiophiles.

*Dos and Don'ts for playing audio CDs*
 *
 *
Don't look for surround sound in audio CDs. Even if its is Rahman you
won't find 5.1 effect in audio CDs. Its not meant for it. Super Audio CD or
SACD is very rare. I have a few but have not compared with any standard CD
 medium of the same track.

Don't increase the volume and think wow. If you can't hear details in
1/3rd volume then either your setting is wrong or the CD is badly recorded.

*REFERENCE AR RAHMAN TRACKS FOR TESTING IN YOUR NEW HOME THEATRE/ CD
 SYSTEM*.

Selected purly in brilliance in the sound
 (Not in any order)

1. Dil Se Re
2. Marudhaani - Sakkarakatti
3. Ghanan Ghanan - Lagaan *(Bose showrooms used this track as demo for
a long time!)*
4. Taal Se Taal Mila
5. Gurus of peace - Vandemataram
6. Do Kadam - Meenaxi - A Tale of 3 Cities
7. Ekla Chalo - Bose the forgotten Hero
8. Main Albeli -Zubeida
9. Kwaja Mere Kwaja - Jodha Akbar
10. Aha Tamizhamma - Azhagiya Tamizh Magan

Well written, Vinod. All praises for your efforts.

On the content of your review, I think Sonu might have got scared of
the big budget and an international star so he might have decided to
play it safe so that the burden of if the song flops doesn't come on his
shoulder, so he didn't experiment, didn't stretch him limits, and gave a
time tested often heard sound, as you said artificial and make-believe
that became his undoing in this song.

I think the overall predictable progression of the song itself is
responsible for lackluster-ness of this song. So many songs like this have
been heard across decades that this entire concept of a culture-clash
culminating in local culture defeat the intruder, doesn't excite the
 imagination any more.

The concept itself doesn't gel with anything that ARR is known for. He
should not have got for a culture defeating another culture, but should have
gone for it to culminate in a synergy of the two cultures.

I dared not to write any comment earlier, bcos I wanted ample time to

get this song to grow on me, before I write anything...

After all these days of listening , I have this opinion... just an
opinion mind you...

I think that the real culprit is Sonu Nigam !! His voice is so
artificial and make-believe. .. yes I am using word artificial and
make-believe. .. because listen to chiggy wiggy from 3:27 onwards
 you'll
know what i mean...

I found his voice more original in Satrangi re from 01:03 onwards...

I strongly feel Daler Mehndi or Sukhvinder singh would have been a
better choice.. maybe even KK... but not Sonu, his voice doesn't suit

for this song !!

The other reason is the rhythm (I dont know what they call it, beat,
rhythm whatever) that Rahman has used, the one which has already been

popular. Right from the beginning, whenever I listen to this song I
 feel
like listening to Pritam's Zara Zara..

Chiggy Wiggy would have been a super-hit if it had been done before
 Zara
Zara... Cos Zara Zara caught peoples imagination with the sensuous
swaying of Katrina Kaif to the music of Pritam..

The next culprit is the sound quality, I think the recording engineer

wanted the listener to hear all the sounds of the song at the same
time... I feel that the sounds that were supposed to be in the
background were brought forward along with all the percussions and
 the
lead voices (This is the case with all the songs of Blue, H.Sridhar's

loss is very evident here) .. it feels really horrible when listened
 on
a high end sound system.. its even more horrible on small time audio
systems, especially in office cabs !!

Donno why, but after sonu's voice takes over the song, I couldnt help

but wanted the song to end quickly !!! And when the song ends, it
 felt
very peaceful, as if after the storm...

I feel let down, when my colleagues at office talk abt chiggy wiggy
 and
compare it with Zara Zara... I realised that everyone feels that
 chiggy
wiggy is an extension of zara zara

As for the sound quality of the songs

As much as I love CR's music and the pure and beautiful artistry in the
album, whether the music receives the same kind of acclaim that Slumdog did
will depend on the commercial success of the movie. At the very least, ARR
will likely receive acclaim from some critics who are open minded and
appreciate variety and detail in music. To us ARR fans and lovers of good
music, this soundtrack is truly a great achievement. However, as I've seen
people here talking about another road to the Oscars with CR, let's be
careful about expectations. No matter how good we think the music is, the
film has got to be successful and well liked for the music to really go
places IMO, and very importantly, how the music tracks are used in the film.

You remember when Slumdog's early reviews came out even before the movie
release? People were also talking about how great the music sounded too. In
the video reviews we have seen thus far, nobody has mentioned anything about
the music, which doesn't necessarily mean anything bad, but just an
 observation.

Let's enjoy CR for the beautiful soundtrack that it is and as ARR fans, we
can truly celebrate a career highlight. However, let's just be cautious
about our expectations about the eventual commercial and universal
acceptance of this brilliant score, esp. since the music may sound too
foreign to untrained and unexposed ears.

I wanted to start a new thread on this. I feel that the media attacks on
Chiggy Wiggy the song are slightly unfair and over the top. Yes, I agree,
it's not AR's greatest song, but it's not as bad as it's being made out to
be in the media. I know it's a high profile song due to Kylie's presence and
there was much hype about it, so I understand the disappointments by some,
but to single the song out like that and pan it in notable media is too much
IMO. I have to suspect some kind of media backlash, or at least sections of
the media have organized bias against the song for some reasons. Maybe they
were paid to write bad stuff about the song by someone.

I will say this again: I like Chiggy Wiggy. I don't love the song or think
it's brilliant, but I find it catchy and experimental and just fun. Kylie's
voice is very sexy and silky. I love the sound effects in the song and the
ending when Sonu uses Punjabi slang is really funny and very entertaining.
The melody sticks and the beats are good. In fact, when I check out comments
on the web about this song, there are just as many positive comments as
there are negatives about the song, so there are a good percentage of people
 who love it too.

But, one achievement that I want ARR to succeed in again is to
create a song with such a haunting, impactful, touching melody that
entire India and many abroad would tear up, be moved, and would
consider that song to be one of the greatest melodies of Indian film
song history. Of course, the lyrics and singing of that song would
need to be equally powerful as the melody and the music.

One example of this type of song is Maa from Taare Zameen Par
(SEL). Shankar won the national award for it and the song itself was
praised to no end by young and old alike, north, south, east, west.
The closest recently that ARR has come to this recently is Tere Bina
from Guru, Khwaja Mere Khwaja from JA.pan India appreciation and
beyond.

I know ARR is capable of this. He just needs the right opportunity
in a film. Who knows, maybe Raavan will be the film

I am hearing the words mediocre and average being thrown around in
some places to describe Blue's music in some reviews. Guys, how can
  such brilliant work be average?

It is a person's personal judgment whether a work is brilliant.

Similarly, it is some other person's personal judgment whether a work is
not brilliant, and is mediocre, below average.

  The depth of compositions and
intricate orchestration and arrangements is anything BUT average or
below. Even saying above average is a huge understatement.

You started with lyrics are said to be bad, then you take a switch to
music is good to say that thus, lyrics also have to be good. see for
yourself. It is not really logical line of thinking.

depth of compositions and intricate orchestration and arrangements is
one aspect of the song, and that may be brilliant. Similarly, words/
lyrics are another a different aspect of the song and they may be
mediocre/ below average while other aspects of songs are brilliant. One
part being great doesn't make an entire song great. One part being
wanting doesn't make overall song lacking.

For example, in recent times, chak de india's song kuch kariye had such
lovely, heart touching, earthly lyrics by an unknown Jaideep Sahni
that would do even a Gulzar or Ghalib or Meer proud, but the music, was
just ok, went too fast to let people absorb the lyrics, and the khichdi
of loud in comparison chak de India refrain, and female chorus,
backgroun just killed/ murdered/spoiled the beauty of the mukhda/
stanza portion of lyrics. This song should be taught in class room as
the perfect case how to kill great lyrics.

Similarly, Taare Zameen Par, had excellent hearth touching lyrics in
dekho inhein hain os ki boondein, tune, music also good, still the
song went a tad slow, too soft, introvert, subdued that it didn't get
the prominence it could have deserved. Maa of the same movie were too
emotional in lyrics, music and singing that it deserve to not get
popular, irrespective of award it fetched for the singer.

Again, all these are my personal judgment.

ARR's Zindagi of Yuvraj has everything great, music, lyrics, whatever
else. However, Ghajini's Kaise mujhe though we all like that a lot, now
I think that that song is lacking something that I can't pinpoint
really. may be, it went a tad too loud, sort of a declaration for a
emotional song that should have been introspective - a la zindagi.

But, other songs of ghajini -- and I am not speaking of latto and
bachchoo which were intentionally kept cheap, had poor lyrics. The most
popular guzarish had lyrics that a 10th standard child poet might write,
just putting rhyming words matching scale - no thought, no concept, no
inner beauty, no content - that was wordsmithing, words being fitted to
give the shape of a song like a menial worker putting physical things to
fit in a shape. Even then it got popular.

Coming to lyrics of ballooo, blooo, ullooo, falloo, there are good urdu
words put at places, that had not earlier been used much in ARR songs,
so they sound good. But that is it and that is all. There is not much
depth vibrating through entire song. These are just individual separate
pieces that are good lyrics, but none of the entire song is a single
whole entity having a life of its own, no single thought or line of
thought peeking from the entire songs.

It is a general feeling that ARR is quite confident (though I think too
proud would have explained it better but that would hurt several of
you) about his musical instincts and creativity, and I concede that
rightly so, but that makes him ignore lyrics intentionally. Seems as
if he considers lyrics are necessary evil and he is compromising the
greatness of his music by putting lyrics in it. Sometimes he gets good
poets so good lyrics come up but not as a rule of ARR songs, just
because of the individual presence of a good lyrics writer who is not
ready to compromise. Seems ARR's standard of lyrics is as low as
jurrasic park mein sundar se jode rap music gaaye jam ke or patti
rap or latka jhatka or telephone dhun mein hansne wali sort of
cheapness presented in the name of lyrics.

Again, all these are my personal judgment.

Blue lyrics are better than Ghajini's, but still writer is appeaing as
novice who might have good potential in future, but is a kid learning
 and experimenting at present.

Again, all these are my personal judgment.

Coming to music, I have been

Why ur 'orkut' name starts with Rahman?
Why Rahman poster is hanging in ur bedroom?
Why Rahman wall paper is there in ur laptop?
Why u always listens to Rahman there are so many.
On this last point if I start any of the following from my
collection they again got upset...it's not their kind of Music :(, they will
 hv below comments:
Pink Floyd (whats going on! r u mad??)
 Metalica (earbuds will burst)
 Evanescence (tooo loud)
Alicia Keys (never heard this kind of sound ever)
 George Michael (less complaints)
 Santana (don't know the language)
 Yanni (instrumental...ooops)
Rabindranath Tagore songs (pls stop his boring songs in 21st
 century)
 Lusiano Pavoratti (cat crying)
 Andrea Bocelli (cat crying)
 ShivKumar Sharma/Rano majumdar/Navin/Zakir/Rashid Khan/Ajay
Chakraborty/Sultan Ahamed/Amjad Ali/Ravi Shankar (when time will move?)
Celene Dion (liked 'my heart will go on' that's all)
The list goes on.. However who asks me the above set of
questions they never enjoy any of the above musiciansfor them Kumar
Shanu is a living legend, Nadim-Shravan created best ever melody in history
of Indian Music, Abhijeet is one of the best singers of the nation, Pritam
is the most talented composer in current time.. and their list goes
 on...

So I treat them as Musically illiterate and vice versa. Also I try not to
waste my valuable time with fighting with these guys... I tell them... pls
forgive me I hv my own likings

On the better side...I hv few friends who are professional Indian
Classical instrumentalists. sometime they come to our vicinity for
concerts and whenever we meet I provide them Rahman's gems... and in
return they provide their valuable time in discussing music (mostly Rahman's
 music).

I generally don't type so much but happened today...

.because you're so passionate about ARR? I love to talk about ARR,
his music, his life, and some people think that I go overboard...think that
he's all that I listen to and that I have no other musical interests
 besides
him, which is not true. I get sarcastic comments sometimes or people having
the attitude, there he goes again with his ARR thing...implying that
I'm totally obsessed with him. I think there is a difference between
 passion
 and obsession.

I love lots of musical artists from different genres of music, but of
course, ARR represents a very heavy part of my rotation.

 hi everyone,
listening to the blue movie theme music and a teaser of chiggy wiggy , i am
sensing another disaster hindi album after dilli 6, ghajini, yuvraaj ,jtjn
by A R RAHMAN. THE theme has nothing new in it and chiggy wiggy sounded very
ordinary song until now. i will not say much but blue doesnt looks to me a
groundbreaker, i waited for so much time but i am not feeling good about the
album. hope it comes out better.

For All Disappointed Readers,

Take note of one point of ARR music...

His music is something very different from others.
It maynot strike you as an extra ordinary music at the first listen.

For many movies i felt there is no punch. But the more you listen the more
you enjoy the music. It came with RDB, Delhi 6, Slumdog, etc etc
So as many already said dont jump into conclusions

I remember, i never noticed 'vellai pookkal' of ARR...
But today that stands one of my favourite

His music is like wine..
The older the better..!!

Matt Wade Herald Correspondent in New Delhi
 August 11, 2009

INDIA'S Oscar-winning pop icon, the *Slumdog Millionaire* composer A.R.
Rahman, wants to counter recent attacks on Indian students in Sydney and
Melbourne with a free concert during the Sydney Festival in January.

''Considering the recent hassles that have created a bad vibe I thought
this concert would be a statement of peace,'' he told the *Herald*
  yesterday.

Rahman said he hoped to deepen the connection between India and Australia.

''I hope it will do what ever it can to reunite culturally and
 spiritually,'' he said.

Festival organisers said Rahman suggested a free concert as a
demonstration of cultural diplomacy and a gesture of goodwill. It will be
held at Parramatta Park on Saturday, January 16.

''This show is very important to me,'' said Rahman, who won two Academy
Awards for composing the soundtrack for the hit movie *Slumdog
Millionaire*. ''I hope it creates a bridge of understanding and love.''

A series of attacks on Indians studying in Australia over the past two
months has received widespread media coverage in India and damaged
Australia's reputation as a safe destination for students.

''As a musician I believe in peace and I believe in the good nature of
people, so I feel that it was one of my duties to come and perform in what
ever way I could help building a bridge between both countries,'' Rahman
 said.

He hopes the concert will help break down cultural misunderstandings and
boost the morale of tens of thousands of Indians studying in Australia.

Rahman, 43, is a superstar in India, where film and pop music are one. His
film scores and soundtracks have achieved sales of more than 300 million,
making him one of the best-selling recording artists in the world.

Rahman has won 13 Filmfare Awards, four National Film Awards, a BAFTA
Award and a Golden Globe for*Slumdog Millionaire*.

A *Time* magazine critic dubbed him the ''the Mozart of Madras''.

The film's anthem, *Jai Ho*, became an international hit and Rahman
promised fans to expect songs from the movie at the Sydney concert.

Rahman's friend, the Australian filmmaker Baz Luhrmann, choreographed
Rahman's performance of *Jai Ho*at this year's Oscar ceremony.

The song was used by the Congress Party as part of its triumphant
 re-election campaign in May.

Rahman has fond memories of playing to packed crowds in Sydney and
 Melbourne in 2005.

''They were probably some of the best concerts we have ever done,'' he
said. ''I want to re-create that in Australia this time.''

The Premier, Nathan Rees, congratulated Rahman for ''his leadership and
goodwill'' in offering to perform at the free concert.

''We all look forward to having him here next year.''

‘Rahmania’ is a show performed by Pune’s well reputed musical band ‘The
Wandering Souls’. This show was conceptualized in the year 2006 and since
then had been performed at various venues in and out of Maharashtra.

Right From the chimes of “Chotti Si Asha” in Roja, A R Rahman has enchanted
all generations of the nation with his unique genre of music.

The Wandering Souls is a band formed in 2003 formed by a bunch of musicians
and is the only band to have performed with A R Rahman at his LIVE concerts
such as the ‘Jai Ho’ concert.

Rahmania is an attempt to bring this genius out of the listeners hearts and

missd many singers as SPB,Sujatha,Sreeni,Sukhi..atleast they shd hv called
Unnimenon or Jeychandran 2 perform in Kerela. Song selection was
good...though many more Tamil songs cud hv been taken.
as far as the technical spect goes...
I totally agree..Shridhar's loss wud be felt till a long time! We hpnd to
meet KJ.Singh on our flight bk 2 Mum...the monitor /feedbk system hd tripped
just b4 they wer starting...thats the reason of the delay. He told ARR it wud
take sum time 4 the sound to settle..so there was a lot of booming...also he
said that ideally 4 such a huge stadium the sound crew shd hv been loacted
almost 100-110 feet away frm the stage..this was just 85-90 feet..so they
cud not get a proper feedbk.Thats the reson the gallery ppl wer not able 2
hear the sound clearly...KJ was very keen 2 get the feedbk frm us he said
all this wud be rectified by the nxt concert!Insha allah!!!
 Overall..a unique experience..memorable!

ARR's band to patch up without him...Sridharji used to give the world's best
 sound output..

[arr] JA's BGMs and Movie - opinions

2008-02-21 Thread Vinayak Kamat
Friends,

Before I watched JA, I was not quite sure if it would live up to the
BGMs of Lagaan and Swades. However after watching the movie, the BGMs
and Man Mohana had a haunting effect and would always reverberate in
my mind.

I have to say this is another classic ARR-AG combo movie.

My music picks in JA are,
1. Man Mohana - this is my favorite composition in the whole album, it
has the amazing orchestration and music that goes with the vocals.
Awesome. I loved it just like I liked 'Saawariya' from Swades, where
it forms the part of the narrative and there is great orchestration in
the interludes.

2. Akbar agrees to conditions - Classical music with chorus
3. Akbar goes to Amer - Classical music with chorus
4. Akbar with the food - This has that haunting effect
5. India Intro - with Amitabh's narration - In the Lagaan mould
6. Akbar informs his ministers to inform Bharmal that he agrees to
marry Jodhaa, this scene is where he is at Khwaja's darga. The Khwaja
mere Khwaja instrumental with Oboe instrument, included in the album
is another classic.

Scenes I liked,
1. Khwaja mere Khwaja
2. In lamahon ke daaman mein
3. Akbar with the food
4. Confrontation with Bairam khan
5. Akbar with the Elephant
6. Jodhaa and calligraphy
7. Akbar enters Amer and identifies Jodhaa as per the tradition

There are many more. But the whole cinematic experience was none like
any other.

I have been a big fan of AG since Lagaan days, now he has reconfirmed
the fact that he is one of the Ace and the most talented directors of
our country today.

As always ARR takes us to the transcendental musical experience when
he teams up with AG. God Bless ARR.
