It truely does. All the six songs. Add to it the ARR song "Jaa Re" and you have
one classy album in your hands. Certainly one of ARR's topnotch albums.
Fantastic job ARR!!

Infact the total play time for the six songs is 29 min and 30 odd seconds.

[arr] Latoo!! Great song with excellent lyrics

2008-11-22 Thread edwardian10
Hi all,

Latoo is not only a great song but the lyrics are excellent. I may
write them some other time but are actually very poetic. For example
the opening lines which goes like PALAK KYON PARKAY RAY, DIL MERA
DARKAY RAY
It beautifully explains how a girl is waiting for her lover and she
doesn't know why she is anxious and restless and finally she realizes
its because her sweet heart is coming :P I am sure the electrifying
dance sequences and great picturization is going to make this one of
the biggest hits, if not the biggest one, of the year. It's a straight
forward dance number but with great lyrics. No BS.

Excellent job once again by Prasoon Joshi. He never disappoints so far.
Well as for the song, and the album. ROCKS BIG TIME. Guys look at the
promo of BARKAY song. No one could have used ARRahman's music better. I
mean the whole AAMIR KHAN sequence with his dancing is crazy stuff. I
am going to watch this movie at least 3 times i am pretty sure.

Take care every body.

Hello my friend,

What a great recommendation. Each number is a gem.

Just to give you a little info, the singer Shafqat Amanat Ali Khan
was the vocalist of the famous Pakistani Eastern Classical/Rock band
called "Fuzon", before it split. He belongs to a famous Classical
music family in Pakistan. His most famous work in India has been the
song MITWA for Shahrukh Khan starrer Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna, besides a
few more good songs. In one of his interviews almost an year back,
the band said that they had worked with ARR on a couple of songs.
That would be a real treat.

Thanks.

[arr] Rahman's Love !!

2008-05-28 Thread edwardian10
http://www.bbc.co.uk/urdu/entertainment/story/2008/05/080526_bollywood_d
iary_awa.shtml

Translation (from BBC Urdu website):

At the completion of the shooting of Aamir Khan's newphew's
film "JTYJN", A.R.Rahman took Aamir with him to Chennai. Throughout the
journey, Aamir asked Rahman but he didn't answer where they were going.
After travelling by car for 5 hours, they reached the tomb of Amin Pir.

Rahman's love for sufis is known to the entire world. That day was the
URAS of Amin Pir. When mehfil-i-sama (Qawalis etc) started, both Rahman
and Aamir were swaying from 1 am till 5 am. There can hardly be a
better example found of such a beautiful blend of love and music.

THanks.

[arr] ARR in Farah Khan's NEXT ??

2008-02-21 Thread edwardian10

According to a Pakistani Urdu newspaper, which took a phone interview
from the singer Amanat Ali of SAREGAMA fame, the singer informed them
that he was signed by Farah Khan for her next film, in which he would
be singing 4 songs and the music is by A.R.RAhman. The cast of the
film is in the process of being finalized these days. He also said
that he is currently in India and is working on his private album.

Personally, I feel the music of Om Shanti Om was pretty good and Farah
Khan shouldnt be really too much tempted to rope in ARR but then
everybody knows ARR is the best and someone like Farah Khan shouldn't
look for anything less than the best.

I would personally like ARR to compose for her film as her films are
all out entertainment and would be good to see ARR's music for such a
movie.

Thanks for reading.

A.R.Rahman in a Lollywood flick

Who doesn't know the famous composer A.R. Rahman? Yes, he is the one
who rendered music for the best of Bollywood movies. Whether the film
makes business or not, his songs are sure to create waves all over
the world. Nah! We don't intend to bore you with stuff that you
already know. Our actor/producer Humayun Saeed has hooked A.R. Rahman
for his upcoming movie. The title of the film is still under
consideration but the musical score is all set to fit in the movie.
Great news for all the music lovers who want to see the Lollywood
music flourish just as the pop music. Humayun Saeed has recently
returned from Norway after selecting the locations of shooting and
plans to finalise the cast soon. After the turnover of Khuda Ke Liye,
Humayun Saeed is very optimistic about his movie and he ensures that
his movie will compel a lot of people to take their families to the
theatres. It's time to revive the culture of cinema in our country.
Nice thoughts Humayun!

Take care.

[arr] Re: A R Rahman credited for Shakalaka Baby - Chinese

Hi Gops,

So the groups has JUST achieved a breakthrough. So A.R.Rahman will be
credited each time the video is played or the song from this album is
mentioned. Great. ARR can be proud of the group :)

However, I still won't buy the argument that Universal Music had
originally intended to credit ARR. I say this because they never
sought ARR's permission to begin with and that's why he and his legal
advisors were informed only by this group. ARR reserved the right to
say NO. However, they have gone ahead, recorded the song, made the
video, played it many times and NOW at the end they are saying they
would give credit to ARR. What would they do if ARR says NO THANK YOU
i cant permit you to use my tune which I am sure ARR would never do.
Just wondering.

Thanks Gops anyways for breaking the good news. Since I wrote the
second email in resopnse, saying it was International piracy since
the song was also included in ALW's Bombay Dreams cd, I hope my email
was one of those forwarded to A.R.Rahman. Just tell him edwardian 10
means Jawad Babar :P

Thanks,
Jawad.

Is the writer crazy or what. He probably doesn't know the meaning or
correct use of INFAMOUS. Infamous means notorious, i.e., famous but
not for good reasons.

Anyways, looking forward to the soundtrack

best foreign film) and "Swades" (known for featuring one of Shah Rukh
Khan's best performances) fame returns to the silver screen with his
latest magna opus, "Jodhaa-Akbar".
> The screenplay centers on a classic sixteenth century love story
between the Mughal Emperor Akbar and a Rajput princess Jodhaa. The
princess is originally used as a political pawn in a marriage to gain
the allegiance of the Rajputs, and initially feels no love for the
Akbar, but rather holds a fiery resentment in her heart. Akbar may
have been able to win an empire that stretched from the Hindu Kush,
to Afghanistan, to the Himalayas to the Godavari River, but will he
be able to conquer his queen's heart? Hindi films have tried period
pieces to varying effects. In recent memory one can remember the
debacle of J.P. Dutta's "Umrao Jaan" (starring Abhishek Bachchan and
Aishwarya Rai) and Santosh Sivan's under-rated flawed yet
beautiful "Asoka" (starring Shah Rukh Khan and Kareena Kapoor). If
there is one director that can perhaps provide Bollywood fans with a

set the screen on fire with their chemistry and the outlawed kiss
from that blockbuster. If there ever were an actor that could convey
the intensity of Emperor Akbar it is Hrithik Roshan. Who could
possibly steal the Emperor's heart? None other than Aishwarya Rai
could portray the intensity, anger and passion of Empress Jodhaa.
Here's hoping that the chemistry they shared in "Dhoom 2" is amp'd up
in the capable hands of a director the caliber of Gowarikar. In
addition to signing the hottest lead pair, Gowarikar has also signed
his infamous partner in music, A.R. Rahman (with lyricist Javed
Akhtar). The musical score for "Lagaan" is considered to be a classic
and will stand up to the test of time. The soundtrack to "Swades"
didn't live up to expectations, but nonetheless contained some
memorable tunes that matched the mood of that movie. Here's hoping
that maestro Rahman will provide us with one of the
> best soundtracks of 2007. Already the anticipation is building for
the qawwali number, titled, "Khwaja Mere Khwaja" which will feature
the smooth vocals of Sonu Nigam and Alka Yagnik. Backed by a
solid producer like Ronnie Screwvalla, Ashutosh Gowarikar looks set
to wow audiences with his latest release. He's spared no expense in
making sure that the film is historically correct, from hiring
scholars, to herds of animals, to detailed costumes, to intense
performances the movie promises to be one that will leave Bollywood
fans worldwide breathless and caught up in the eternally classic love
story of "Jodhaa-Akbar".

replacing the MD of a film, he would never say he was bad or such
thing. The fact is that he says that he liked the songs and BGM etc
of the tamil version but when it matters most, he turn to his
favourtie MD and we all know who that is.
Infact I hope you guys remember the headline AAMIR BOWLED OVER BY
RAHMAN, when he recently went to chennai for shooting and heard
Sivaji's songs, he was amazed.

So dont make a matter of it, Aamir Khan is a professiona and he is
expected to be polite to everyone.

This guys is so obsessed with RHYTHM that he cares about it even in
the spelling of his name. I mean, RAHMAN is one of the 99 beautiful
names of God Almighty and spelling it REHMAN woulnd't make it any
different in it's meaning or character.
But when it comes to ARRahman, the fact that RAHMAN looks more
rhythmic and symmetrical than REHMAN, he prefers RAHMAN :P LOLZ
(I noticed it because i prefer to do the same. I always write him as
Rahman , just like i prefer my name as JAWAD and not Javad or Jawed
which some people might right it as).

Just an interesting point i thought.

And mind you this is not the first time ARR- Gulzar have been
inspired by Sufi poets. Their classic CHAYYA CHAYYA, was based on
Bulleh Shah's THAYYA THAYYA. (The orginal lyrics featured in the
soundtrack of DIL SE as a remix of chayya chayya, called THAYYA
THAYYA, again sung by Sukhwinder).
Only a great poet like Gulzar and a great musician like ARRahman can
do justice with the work of such legendary sufi poets.

2006-11-17 Thread edwardian10
-HI guys,
I was going to mention the same thing, although with a different
reference. This flute piece was also used in Pakistani pop legend
Junaid Jamshed's song KAHO NA, from his last album DIL KI BAAT,
released in year 2002, composed by musician and director Shoaib
Mansoor. I am sure this is not a copy and probably a smaple. Even, if
its an inspiration, its very aesthetically done.
Similary Shoaib Mansoor used a small musical piece, in his legendary
song SUPREME ISHQ, which is similar to the starting vocal of HELLO
DOCTOR. Now, im convinced that was a programme too.
Anyways, its too minor a thing. Just got curious and thought should
share with you guys.
GURU is mindblowing. Its going to be a big hit.
Take care,
Jawad

[arr] Re: London Dreams to have 7-8 songs

2006-03-30 Thread edwardian10
Thanks gops for the artics.
Just as my observation over the years, whenever ARRahman composes 6 or
more songs for a sound track, or when a sound track includes a theme
music of BGM, its a mega hit.
Examples include Roja, Bombay, Rangeela, Taal, Dil Se, Lagaan, Range
de Basanti and so on.
And the prospect of a Rock album from the man is really exciting.
Can't wait for that one.
Take care everybody.

[arr] Re: [Possibly-ARR] Aamir confirms team-up with Mani Ratnam

2006-03-26 Thread edwardian10
Now thats what i call a NEWS. :P
The one movie with Mani Ratnam is the non stop comedy, and it has
music by ARR.
The second one the Ghanji remake, even that posssibly has ARRahman
doing the music as previously mentioned quite a few times but not
confirmed yet.
That is great news.
I just have one wish that the songs of Maniratnam movie, although it
would be an all out comedy, should have serious lyrics and only
picturized funny (like say Andaz apna apna songs). That would be
something great. And no need to say i want GULZAR for lyrics.
 just imagine ARR-Maniratnam-Aamir khan- Gulzar
What a soundtrack that would be.
Take care and enjoy.

2006-03-17 Thread edwardian10
Hello buddy,
Plz go to the following site.
http://boxofficeindia.com/00-09.htm
It says Gadar has NET GROSS of 70 crore,K3G has 49 crores and No
entry has 44.8 crores business. (the figures given in India glitz
news are ADJUSTED NET GROSS)
RDB has already grossed 44.2 crores, and it can topple even K3G for
the second place in 2 to 3 weeks. (In terms of adjusted gross, RDB is
supposed to do even better, keeping in mind the super hit business it
has done in USA,UK and other countries, plus the DVDs etc) so i
expect RDB to be in all time top 5.
Take care.

[arr] Re: A Look Inside the Mind and Soul of Composer A.R. Rahman - India West

2006-02-24 Thread edwardian10
Hello Gomzy,
Yes its true. The song Chayya Chayya is inspiration from Bulleh
Shah's Thayya Thayya (sung by sufi singer Abdia Parvin from
Pakistan), and Gulzar Sahib based his lyrics on sufi poetry from
Bulleh Shah, but since the influence is very obvious, both Gulzar
Sahib and ARRahman never felt shy in saying it was based on Bulleh
Shah's work.
Now if you are still having any doubts, the song THAYYA THAYYA (and
not Chayya Chayya) on Dil Se album, again sung by Sukvindar Singh is
Bulleh Shah's kalam (or peotry). These are the original lyrics which
were previously sung by Abida Parvin. These ones are not by GUlzar
Sahib, but although ARRahman changed the music a bit, the basic
meldoy remains the same.
Just like ghazals, the sufi peotry is also something which is ,and
can be, sung by many people, coz its to do with arts and culture,
unlike film songs, which are written for a particular film. If you
remeber, BULLEYA KI JANA MAIN KON, a chart buster from Pakistani Rong
band Junoon, was re-done by a SIKH singer and apparently he was
topping charts with it as well.
So nothing really to worry about, but the news however, is true.
Take care.
Jawad.

[arr] Re: Vishal from Vishal-Shekhar on A R Rahman

2006-02-22 Thread edwardian10
Come on guys,
Dont make them heros for that now.
They are the same guys who after (the less success of)The Rising for
ARRahman and with their own hit soundtracks such as Kaal etc said,
ALTHOUGH WE LIKED ARRAHMAN INITIALLY, HE IS VERY MONOTONOUS NOW".

Now that ARRahman has given superhit such as Rang De Basanti, and they
have a few flops such as home delivery etc, they are saying THEY DREAM
TO DO WHAT ARRAHMAN IS DOING.

Very typical of ppl in showbiz who keep changing their statments. You
see the difference even here(personality not music). ARRahman is an
exceptional person (and ofcourse musicican)

Take care,
Jawad.

[arr] Aamir to act in remake of hit Tamil film !!!!

2006-02-17 Thread edwardian10
http://www.bollywoodworld.com/news/bwnews.php?
subaction=showfull&id=1140167558&archive=&start_from=&ucat=1&

Aamir Khan with wife Kiran Rao at the Rang De Basanti premiere at
Cinemax, Versova
Pic: Rakesh Dave
His recent marriage to Kiran Rao seems to have helped Aamir Khan in
more ways than one.

Aamir has started watching films in south Indian languages — Kiran
can now help interpret them, and was so bowled over by director
Murugadas' hit Tamil film, Gajni, that he has agreed to act in its
Hindi remake.

Gajni, an action-packed film starring Surya and newcomer Asin, will
also be directed by Murugadas for a South Indian producer, who plans
to relaunch his banner with a film after a long hibernation, after
making a series of films with Amitabh Bachchan.

Aamir saw the film in Mumbai with Kiran at a special trial held
exclusively for him recently, and allotted dates for the project as
soon as he is through with his work in Yash Chopra's Fanaah.

Director thrilled

Though Khan was not available for confirmation on signing the
project, an associate of Murugadas confirmed that the director was
thrilled to be making his debut with the Hindi version of his own
Tamil hit, with Aamir.

Though he refused to divulge details about the project, he said there
were plans to sign on a new face opposite Khan, since the producer
wants to complete the film in a single, non-stop shooting schedule,
and release it by the end of the year.

Pre-production work is underway, and the script is undergoing some
changes suggested in the story line by Aamir, to make the narrative
pacy and taut.

( Question no 1.If im not wrong, ARRahman was said to be doing the
music for the Hindi version of this film called Gajini.
Question No 2. Is Gajini a comedy??? As we also heard that Aamir
khan would be doing a full comedy movie Mani Ratnam. )
Can anyone plz clarify
ARRahman/Aamir Khan combo is lethal. Rangeela/Fire/Lagan/Rising/RDB
Take care

[arr] RDB Rocks!! and so does its music (Both BGM and soundtrack)

2006-02-09 Thread edwardian10
Well the music rocks big time.
SOund track we have alrady discussed in detail.
Background music is awesome, esp the rock score for bgm where aamir khan
was having a race in his truck with his friend on the bike and the bgm
of the final scene where ARRahman alaaped with music when they were
dieing is simply oneof ARRahman's best BGM. Its similar in quality to
bombay theme and spirit of rangeela and thump of daud.
 Rocks big time.
Take care.

[arr] Rang De Basanti soundtrack has everything!!!

2006-01-18 Thread edwardian10
Hi fellows,
I thought of listening to the soundtrack many times before writing
something about it.
Well let me repeat, RANGE DE BASANTI soundtrack has everything.
In terms of music, if you want:
1)Bhangra - Rang de basanti
2)Classical- Luka chupi (esp second half)
3)Techno- Pathshala
4)Love duet- Tum bin bataye
5)Arabian - Khalabali
6)Devotional- Ik onkar
7)Remix- Be a rebel
8)Dialogue song- Lalkar

I mean almost every song falls into a different genre and how many
times can one come across such an album.
If you go to lyrics, they are simply superb. WHY??? Reason is it has
classy lyrics in songs like RDB, luka chupi, tum bin bataye. But in
other songs like Patshala, khalabali and roobaroo, the lyrics are
very simple, yet meaningful and nothing nonsense.
The lyrics themself remind of early 90s ARRahman songs, stuff like
Rangeela and Hello doctor songs.I feel more criticism for youthful
songs is expected from the seasoned fans like say myself, or gops or
vijay iyer(im saying just for eg) who are now in late 20s or early
30s. But when i was 18 years old and listened to rangeela, the effect
would was exactly similar to a college student listening to RDB now.
But ireally enjoyed the youthful lyrics too. Stuff like SHEESHI
BOTHAL PEE LEE HAY,RAATH NEELI NEELI HAY, ...GHAR BATHA KE AAYE
HAIN,.and DEKHO LAMBOO SHOR HAY, BURBUR KARTHA H2SO4 HAY.

even the word SALA has only been used twice in ARR's music.
Incidentally the only time before was in Rangeela's KYA KARAY KYA NA
KARAY and this time again its in Aamir Khan starrer ROOBAROO.
So in my opinion, there are many good reasons to believe that Rang
De Basanti is one gem of an album and its Vintage ARRahman of mid
90's .
Take care and comment plz!!!

[arr] Re: Roop Suhana Lagta Hai is an ARR song right?

2006-01-15 Thread edwardian10
>From what i know, since ARR's Hindi wasnt too good at that time,
another musician had to be selected to use hindi singers and put hindi
vocals to his tamil stuff. The music ofcourse, would always remain that
of ARRahman. Anu Malik acted more like a music conductor for ARR's
music. It wasnt a copy really but the music should go to ARRahman
really and thats what is known to the whole world and thats why the
same song is avaialable for download at ARRahman's sites everywhere.
Take care.

[arr] Re: maniathnam+rahman+amir- A WISH

2006-01-09 Thread edwardian10
hello everybody,
It would be a really amazing project with 3 geniuses working together.
However i have a wish (i wont say suggestion, as it may disappoint
some members).
When it comes to the lyrics of a comedy movie, there are 2 ways to go
about it. One is to go with absolutely normal and serious lyrics,
great poetry if he could, and have great music but then picturize it
in a really funny way, so that the comedy touch is enhanced.A classic
example would always remain ANDAZ APNA APNA (another aamir khan
classic) where the lyrics were great but serious but still due the
the funny picturization, all the videos would make you laugh. and due
to the great lyrics, the songs are still heard and remembered. A
recent example might be garam masala where songs had serious lyrics.
Second approach would be to have funny lyrics itself. Although i
have absolutely no doubts about the music creativity of ARRahman,
songs with very funny lyrics never become classics, although they may
be hits. Something like NO ENTRY was the biggest hit of year 2005 but
the songs are nothing memorable at all.
So for a MANIRRATNAM-ARRAHMAN-AAMIR KHAN movie,i wont settle for a
music anything less than CLASSIC,nothing less than DIL SE class :p
So i only wish (and am not suggesting)that the lyrics are serious
and meaningful but the picturization is funny, and not funny lyrics.
I remeber when the songs STRAWBERRY ANKHAIN from sapnay was
released, all my friends used to laugh at me that this is what
ARRahman made and i had to defend him by saying that the music is
really great and lyrics is not his job.
I welcome you guys to comment.
Take care.

[arr] Re: Worst Music

2005-12-30 Thread edwardian10
Hello Mr.Shaikab,
I wish you were sensible enough to first see the original message
where u would find out that the message (and thus the title)wasnt
posted by me.
It was my reply to the message, saying although u cant call it his
WORST music, for an amir khan starrer after 4 years, it (according to
my opinion, and at the end i repeated strictly my opinion)wasnt upto
the occassion.
Be careful and more courteous while using words. You dont need to
pity my music sense. Better pity your sense of community
participation.
Take care.

In addition, Daler Mehendi will perform to the tunes of his new hit,
the title song of 'Rang De Basanti', which has already gotten the city
grooving and yearning for more.

[arr] A Suggestion To A.R.Rahman

2005-11-28 Thread edwardian10
Hello everybody,
Well to begin with, the promo of RDB Rocks.
The track itself is one hell of a track. The way the keyboard is
used, could only be done by ARR.
I have a suggestion. I think although having used Daler Mehndi in
this song, i think he should stop using Daler Mehndi or Sukwinder
Singh in Punjabi bhangara tracks.
Daler Mehndi's voice, although he is a great singer no doubt,is not
very youthful im afraid. I mean if SALAM NAMASTE song was made with
Daler Mehndi's voice, im sure it wont have been as big a hit.
I think ARRahman should make even bhangra and punjabi songs with
other singers like Sonu Nigam, Adnan Sami or Kunal Ganjawala, to
name a few. Their voices give a very youthful feel which Daler
Mehndi's voice fails to deliver sometimes. Besides, when he makes
these different sounds with the song,it is expected from him in his
songs, but if someone like Sonu or Kunal Ganjawala do that, it would
be a very new feel to their style of singing and im sure would be
something new to listeners.
Although i can foresee Rangeela's heights for both Aamir khan and
ARRahman with RDB, promised by the promos alone, i would suggest to
ARRahman to kindly refrain from using Daler Mehndi's voice in such
youthful numbers in future.
Does anyone agrees??? Any commments are welcome.
Take care,
Jawad.

[arr] Re: Rang De Basanti . . . . .Songs Update. . . . .

2005-11-22 Thread edwardian10
Thanks for sharing the news. However a small correction. Its not the
first time that Lata Mangeshkar would be singing with a composer.
She has already sung with Adnan Sami Khan in film Lucky and he was
the composer of that film.
Looking forward for RDB.
Take care,
Jawad.

Hello buddy,
Thanks alot for this track which i was long looking forward to.
Yes it would be great if u could upload it in even better quality,
even if that makes the songs size bigger. The quality would be even
bettter then. 256 kbps should make it perfect.

2005-11-02 Thread edwardian10
Hello everybody,
If u have noticed, at the end of the garam masala trailors, when the
voice of the singer says GARAM MASALA, that sounds exactly like the
voice that says SALAM NAMASTE from dol dol song in YUVA. Even this
garam masala voice sounds like that of blaze, who had sung dol dol.
 What do u think guys,

Thanks for the nice article gops. I think it might be a little old
because in this ARRahman talks about doing the 4 out of 5 compulsory
things of islam and talking about the fifth. That is kalama, namaz,
fasting, zakat and talking about intending to do hajj.
However, it is to be noted that he already has performed hajj last
year.(i hope you remember his shaven head :P)

[arr] Re: Lyrics & translation of Tauba Tauba from Vande Mataram

2005-09-29 Thread edwardian10
Dear Jitesh,
Well as u said in EK HO GAYE HUM OR TUM, means Me and you become one.
AIK always means ONE.
but in english, the phrase is quite frequently used in a different
sense.For example:
ONE HAS TO GET UP EARLY IN THE MORNING.
ONE HAS TO GO TO JOB EVERYDAY.
But in urdu/hindi, we would hardly ever say
AIK KO SUBHA JALDI OTNA HAI
AIK KO ROZANA JOB PE JANA HAY
but in this tauba tauba song, he used the word AIK exactly in that
sense as i just described which is such a common expression in
English.
I hope i have been able to make it clear :P

Jawad.

[arr] ARRahman's tune stolen in film GARAM MASALA

2005-09-27 Thread edwardian10
Hi everybody,
The songs ADA'a main tune from the new film Garam Masala is stolen
from the song ATHURA of A.R.Rahman's movie U20 E18.
The MD PRITAM who in his last film choclate stole 2 songs 100 % from
pakistani songs, does it again. While in chocolate his song Zehreli
ratain was a ballant copy of Jal's Aadat, and song december was a
total copy of Abrar ul Haque's December, Thanks GOD this one is not a
100%copy, however the fans of ARRahman should tell this to various
websites because there is every chance we might get to hear those
beautiful ARRahman's beautiful compositions in Hindi later but if
these other composers steal them then who knows BOYS is next to be
copied by someone else in hindi before ARRahman actually releases the
hindi version.
 Do something about it guys.
 Take care,
  Jawad.

I personally feel that, while the sound track of MP is pretty good,
BOSE was a timeless classic. I imagine if he had given that soundtrack
to MP, i cant imagine what it would be like to seee Aamir khan perform
on QADAM QADAM, ika chal, and zikr.
 Really, just a weird thought

Book on Deepa Mehta

Deepa Mehta
NRI filmmaker Deepa Mehta's daughter Devyani Saltzman is ready with a
book regarding her mother's painful divorce and the hardships she
faced trying to make her latest film 'Water' in Varanasi, as Hindu
fundamentalists threatened dire consequences.

The book entitled, 'Shooting Water: A Mother-Daughter Journey & The
Making Of A Film' took six years to complete. Key Porter Books will
release the book across Canada on October 1st. Penguin India has
bought it, but the release date is to be announced, probably to
coincide with Water's release in India.

[arr] Bollyvista reviews THE RISING (in great detail)

2005-07-27 Thread edwardian10
'Mangal Pandey - The Rising' is many things - a huge film with a big
star cast, Aamir's first release in four years (as he teams up with
his 'Ghulam' co-star) and the ruling Rani of Bollywood. It boasts of
an internationally famous music director and the best lyricist in
the Indian film industry (master of patriotic lyrics). When all
these top names/talents combine, the expectations assume mammoth
proportions. So does the music of 'Mangal Pandey -The Rising'
measure up to the expectations? Let us check out for ourselves, the
music of a film that marks the comeback of one of the finest actors
of recent times, Aamir Khan.

The first version of the title track 'Mangal Mangal' says - "Wake up
India!! If you have forgotten the sacrifices of Bharat Mata's
patriotic sons, Bhagat Singh's and Mangal Pandey's." Coming to the
track, we have to go overboard (as some may think) and make a bold
statement (repeating what Aamir says) "Here is the patriotic song of
the decade" and that too in three different flavors/variations.

A.R. Rahman and Javed sahib have worked wonders together and created
a song (sorry, we know its blasphemous to term it as just a song)
that just cannot be described in words. This track will definitely
move the hearts and souls of all the patriotic Indians, many
centuries after the sacrifice of Mangal Pandey. Awesome, amazing and
superlative are a few words that come to mind.

The first version, termed as the "Prabhati" (sunrise or dawn
breaking) by the leading man Aamir, is a mind-blowing composition.
After 'Kisna' and 'Bose', Rahman proves yet again that he is the
best when it comes to period films (sad that he has announced that
it will be his last!). 'Mangal Mangal' uses no techno gadgets, no
drums or guitars, just ancient percussion instruments like
the 'Dhol', 'Tabla' and 'Daf'. Javed Akhtar demonstrates once again
that no one knows more about the rich Indian culture and heritage
than he does. Listen to how he describes the festivities /rituals
that unfold with the sunrise, the holy dip, the 'Surya Namaskar'
(that Aamir performs with perfection in the promos) on the sacred
ghats of the holy Ganges.

"Bhor aave jo Ganga nahane, Raat har ghaat se hat jaye, Surya kirno
ki talwar tane, Aur andhiyara sab kat jaye, Koi tat par hi dhooni
ramave, Koi jhatpat darshan ko jaye."

In the second version of 'Mangal Mangal', the theme is "Agni"
(fire). The rhythm and tempo is faster. The song starts off
with 'Nagada' sounds (an ancient drum used by the rulers before
important announcements for their 'praja'). Though to some the first
and second version may seem similar, here 'jago' means the awakening
of the mind against the atrocities of the British Raj. Kailash Kher
sings with such zeal and fervor to convey the rebellious mood
(during the sepoy mutiny of 1857 whose hero was Mangal Pandey), the
seething anger and the fire within in such a manner that the song
becomes an ace. Check out the lyrics - "Aag aisi lagi hai dilon
mein, Na bujhegi kisi ke bujhaye, Man ki agni hai aankhon se jhalke,
Sar nahin jhukte hai jhukaye.

The third version has a theme "Aatma" (soul). While both the
previous versions have Kailash Kher as the solo singer, the third
and slower version of 'Mangal Pandey' has both Sukhwinder and
Kailash singing another exceptional track. The essence here is
sacrifice and the pride associated with laying down one's life for
the motherland. The lyrics are again superlative and the rhythm
varies in pace according to the mood/requirement of the song
situation. Javed sahib's lyrics go - "Koi duniya se ab jaa raha hai,
Kitne gaurav se sar ko uthaya, Dhanya hai bhaagya har us maata ke,
Jo aisa beta paya, Woh nidar hai, Woh amar hai, Jaan jati hai to
jaye." We guarantee that a lot of moist eyes will be there during
this song (on-screen)!

'Tabla' and 'ghungroo' (anklet) sounds, a perfect welcome to the
Rani of Bollywood and also to Rahman's first 'mujra', 'Main Vari
Vaari'. Kavita, who after her marriage has become quite selective,
sings this composition that deviates from the norms of
traditional 'mujra' compositions. The song is composed more in
the 'qawwali' mode as in the 60's and 70's (where qawwals
combined 'qawwali' with 'mujra' styled songs).

'Main Vaari Vaari' may not be in the league of 'Dil Cheez Kya Hai'
('Umrao Jaan') or 'Maar Daala' ('Devdas') but before putting it
down, one must remember that Bollywood's most famous 'mujra' 'Inhi
Logon Ne' ('Pakeeza') relied more on rhythm rather than restricting
itself to the prevailing norms. Kavita is excellent as she sings to
Javed sahib's lyrics - "Tumhari adaon pe main vaari vaari, Tumhari
adaon pe main vaari vaari, Har ek baat hai jaise meethi katari."

A Still from 'Mangal Pandey - The Rising'
Next up is the only average composition of the album, 'Holi Re'
(which has Aamir's voice too). It's nice to hear Udit singing for
Aamir once again, as he was Aamir's voice in 'Q

[arr] Aamir sings for The Rising

After rendering his vocal chords and making an anthem out of 'aye kya
bolti tu', Mr. Perfectionist Khan does it again. In The Rising, we
hear this Mangal Pandey sing a Holi song, titled Holi Re along with
Udit Narayan, Madhushree, Srinivas and Chinmaye.

Whether he is a part of the full-fledged song or just the prelude is
yet to be confirmed.

A R Rahman will perform a grand musical concert, to be directed by
Mani Ratnam at Shri Krishna Gardens near Koyambedu. Stars like
Abhishek Bachchan, Kamal Hassan and Madhavan are being roped in to
perform at the event to be held on a huge 80 X 40 stage.

Take care buddies and enjoy.I would definitely be waiting for the vcd

[arr] Re: BOSE: new controversy-Some important & interesting facts

2005-05-05 Thread edwardian10
A couple of days ago,Krishna Bose, Subash Chandra Bose's daughter in
law was in the border city of Peshawar(Near Afghanistan)and she met
our family's elder,the ex-interior minister Retd.Maj.Gen NaseerUllah
KHan Babar at his residence. She also met Siraj Khan, the son of the
freedom fighter Ibad Khan, the person mainly responsible for flaying
BOSE to Afghanistan. The interesting part is that Siraj khan belongs
to our village pirpiai and this was even mentioned in the newspaper.
(iwill be scanning and putting that cutting in files section soon).
Here's the exact english translation of the urdu news.
"The hero of subcontinent's freedom fight Subash Chandra's Bose's
daughter in law Krishna Bose is in Peshawar to meet her family's
helpers.At ex-interior minister Naseer Ullah Babar's residence,she
met Siraj khan, the son of prominent freedom fighter Ibad khan, the
person who mainly helped Bose flay away to Afghanistan. She made it
clear to Siraj khan that she will never forget the co-operation his
father did to Bose.On monday,Krishna BOse,who is a member of a
delegation from india, met Siraj khan and Rtd.Gen NaseerUllah
Babar.Prominent journalist Mr.Rahim Ullah Yusafzai was also present
on the occasion.
Siraj khan's father Ibad khan belongs to village Pirpiai of
district NOwshera.in 1941,Ibad khan helped and cooperated Bose in
flaying away to Afghanistan. After going to Afghanistan,BOse went to
Germany.Krishna Bose said that if pathans hadnt fought against the
British then neither Pakistan nor India would have been free
today. For freedom struggle, the role of Pathans is an unforgettable
one.She told Siraj khan that if his father hadnt helped Bose, then
today he wouldnt have been considered this great a hero of freedome
fight and that her family would be grateful to him and his family

[arr] Re: 'Roop suhana lagta hai' from 'Gentleman' YES IT IS INSPIRED !!!!

2005-04-15 Thread edwardian10

Hi everybody,
The song ROOP SOHANA LAGTA HAI has always gone as an ARR
composition. The reason being after Gentleman became superhit in
tamil, when they wanted to re-make it in hindi, the problem arised
with ARR's hindi. Thats why anu malik was roped in to rather RE-
RECORD the songs with the duty that he should get the singers to
sing them well in hindi,wiht ARR's permission.Obviously ARR,at that
time, with the language problem couldntdo so.The hindi songs of
GNETLEMAN were mega hits.Couple of ARR greats were roop sohana
lagata hai and Aashiqui main had se guzarnay ko jee chahy.
Unfortunately,no one knew much about arr in bollywood so initially
anu malik took credit for composing those songs. But later on
everybody came to know that these were arr compositions.
I hope that clears up the thing.
Take care,
 Jawad.

2005-04-07 Thread edwardian10

I totally agree... I personally rate his KANGALAL KAITHU SEI and
TEHZEEB as one of his all time best,in tamil and
hindi, respectively.Meenaxi certainly also deserves to be put there.
Ofcourse all others are good too.
take care,
 jawad.

[arr] Re: Translation of ZIKR

2005-04-07 Thread edwardian10

Dear Shivu,
Although it's very difficult as most of the words (especially the
beautiful names of Allah) are in Arabic, I will try my best to give
u the meaning.

Those of you, who seek Allah's attention, Come, as you are called by
Allah.
There is no better deed than ZIKR, said the Holy Prophet of Allah.
And those who do ZIKR of Allah from core of their hearts, become
successful.
And Zikr cuts Nafs (a human being's desire to do whatever he wants,
good or bad but used mostly for the desire to do evil things) so
Zikr is sword of Allah.

zikr aman hai zikr hai fatah zikr shifa hai zikr hai dawa
Allah ho baqimil qule fani aur fana hai sub wo muqab-Allah

Zikr is peace, Zikr is victory, Zikr is remedy, and Zikr is prayer
(I can't give exact meaning of the second line but it means
something like this)
Only Allah is eternal and will be there when nothing else will be
there, as everything other than Allah will get destroyed one day.

Hasb-e-Rabi Jallallah, maafi-qalbi gher-ullah
noor-e-Muhammad sallallah, haq laillaha illallah

hu... Allah hu... Allah hu

Hasb-e-Rabi Jallallah, maafi-qalbi gherullah
noor-e-Muhammad sallallah, haq laillaha illallah

Apart form Allah subhan ta alah's greatness,
Take anything other than Allah out of your heart
And leave Light of Muhammad (May peace be upon him)
The Truth of La ila ha il Allah (the Kalma of testimony or
shahadath, the basic of Islam, where every Muslim declares that
there is no one worship- worthy other than Allah)

Har gul mein har rooh mein, har shey mein noor-ullah
Har dil mein har pal mein reh zikr-e-illallah

In every flower, in every spirit, there is light of Allah
In every heart, in every moment, there's Zikr of Allah

zikr hai behtar nafrat se zikr hai behtar ghaflat se
zikr hai behtar hujat se zikr hai behtar gheebat se

Zikr is better than hatred; Zikr is better than not caring about
life hereafter
Zikr of Allah is much better compared to saying bad things about
fellow human beings

Ya Qayum ya Qayum Ya Qayum
Ya Awal Ya Akhir, Ya Awal Ya Akhir
Ya Halleem ya Kareem Ya Azeem ya Raheem
Ya Rahman ya Subhan ya Adnan ya Mannan
Ya Zol Jallal wal iIkram Ya Zol jallal wal Ikaram

Now he recites the beautiful names of Allah.
Ya Qayum (Al-Qayum mean THE SELF-SUBSISTING i.e. HE WHO HOLDS THE
ENTIRE UNIVERSE)
Ya Awal (Al-Awal means THE FIRST i.e. HE WHO WAS THERE WHEN NOTHING
ELSE WAS THERE)
Ya Akhir (Al-Aakhir means THE LAST i.e. HE WHO WILL BE THERE WHEN
NOTHING ELSE WILL BE THERE)
Ya Haleem (Al-Haleem means THE FOREBEARING ONE i.e. HE WHO IS
CLEMENT)
Ya Kareem (Al-Kareem means THE GENEROUS ONE)
Ya Azeem (Al-Azeem means THE GREAT ONE)
Ya Raheem (Al-Raheem means THE MERCIFUL, He who gives blessings and
prosperity)
Ya Rahman (Al-Rahman means THE BENEFICENT)
Ya Subhan
Ya Adnan
Ya Manan
(The above 3 are not names of Allah but im not in a position to
write anything about it.)
Ya Zol jallal wal Ikaram (means THE LORD OF MAJESTY AND BOUNTY)

Well it still might not be 100 percent exact meanings but still they
are the closest. It's such a beautiful peace of devotion, which
should catch attention of any human being, regardless of his caste,
religion or language.
 Take care and happy listening,
Jawad.

[arr] Re: arr ftp

2005-04-04 Thread edwardian10

Yes dear, most certainly YES. Plus kindly put full verson of HABIBI
SONG FROM TEHZEEB. That 30 second sound clip was amazing and the
quality was extremly good. Even for that one song alone, the revival
of the ftp is justified, not to mention other great songs.Kindly dont
put that fake version of EKAM SATYAM.
I appreciate you for your great efforts and you are a really great
ARR fan.
Take care and all the best,
 Jawad.
