Forgive for this non ARR post, but I just had to share one of my favorite American slow songs of the 1980s sung by Lionel Richie called Hello. It's one of the most beautiful slow songs I have ever heard and the melody, video, and lyrics combined are extremely touching, albeit a bit on the cheesy side by today's standards, but still sincere and touching. I also bring this song up because it really also reminds me of ARR's style and way of composing a beautiful slow romantic songdelicate, touching, gentle instrumentation, sincerity. The closest I can think of is Shauk Hai from Guru. I bet ARR himself loves this song too. If he hasn't heard this beauty, someone please pass this on to him!!! This is really a Rahmantic song from the West! Enjoy this - it's a beauty. http://www.youtube. com/watch? v=b_ILDFp5DGA Try the new Yahoo! India Homepage. Click here. http://in.yahoo.com/trynew

Its a hit nation wide. Its topping the charts currently. Big guns like Akshay Kumar and Sanjay Dutt are involved. Hence the media creates controversies like these. Dont go by these baseless news. Though its unfair to expect a repeat of Chaiyya Chaiyya, which revived the career of Sukhvinder, still I expected something new I dared not to write any comment earlier, bcos I wanted ample time to get this song to grow on me, before I write anything... After all these days of listening , I have this opinion... just an opinion mind you... I think that the real culprit is Sonu Nigam !! His voice is so artificial and make-believe. .. yes I am using word artificial and make-believe. .. because listen to chiggy wiggy from 3:27 onwards you'll know what i mean... I found his voice more original in Satrangi re from 01:03 onwards... I strongly feel Daler Mehndi or Sukhvinder singh would have been a better choice.. maybe even KK... but not Sonu, his voice doesn't suit for this song !! The other reason is the rhythm (I dont know what they call it, beat, rhythm whatever) that Rahman has used, the one which has already been popular. Right from the beginning, whenever I listen to this song I feel like listening to Pritam's Zara Zara.. Chiggy Wiggy would have been a super-hit if it had been done before Zara Zara... Cos Zara Zara caught peoples imagination with the sensuous swaying of Katrina Kaif to the music of Pritam.. The next culprit is the sound quality, I think the recording engineer wanted the listener to hear all the sounds of the song at the same time... I feel that the sounds that were supposed to be in the background were brought forward along with all the percussions and the lead voices (This is the case with all the songs of Blue, H.Sridhar's loss is very evident here) .. it feels really horrible when listened on a high end sound system.. its even more horrible on small time audio systems, especially in office cabs !! Donno why, but after sonu's voice takes over the song, I couldnt help but wanted the song to end quickly !!! And when the song ends, it felt very peaceful, as if after the storm... I feel let down, when my colleagues at office talk abt chiggy wiggy and compare it with Zara Zara... I realised that everyone feels that chiggy wiggy is an extension of zara zara As for the sound quality of the songs in Blue... I have a high end audio system in my car, with blaupunkt woofer(its awesome !) pioneer 2 din head unit, blaupunkt 800 watt amplifier, jbl speakers... I expected the songs of blue to blow me over with the sound... but it was too jarry... Fanaa from Yuva is the benchmark that i use in my car.. the beats in Fanaa are simply superb and it puts the woofer to its ultimate test, literally... I play this song at volume level of 8 with A/c on (my system supports 30 i think). Believe me, U have to listen to Fanaa in my car and experience the quality !!! But with Blue I feel that the recording quality is so horrible that I cant play any song beyond the volume level of 3 !!! Blue Theme and Fiqraana are exceptional and have a awesome beat, but the Bass recording is too bad (I am a novice at the technical terms used in the music production, so pls excuse me) That's it for now.. will write more later bye !! thanx anand that reply belongs to a true rahmanfan. i agree wit you completely.we shudnt waste time by such discussions anymore right??.we are wasting our time and rahmans music is gettin underrated these days which is even made abhijet(singer) to say there are many MDs in india better than rahman. just think, it has been a long time since rahman had a decent hit.we shud be discussin the reasons for this prblm, especially in the tamil industry.a few years back, rahmans music meant sure hit.still no one wud tell his music is borin and we know its still that sharp.its just that he isnt gettin the right film.doing a film like bose which is a sure flop wont do anythin. --- Anand Bharathan [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Rohith, I think this group has gone through this rigmarole many times before. Lemme give my views here. According to me a genius like ARR can never blatantly lift or copy because once your mind is thinking at such a creative level you just can't think of copying someone else's work. Having said that I am not saying his music may not be inspired. Just think, is there anything in this world which can be truly original, especially something like music which is from the time of creation itself. There are so many forms and genres and so many musicians that music is bound to overlap. I am happy even if ARR is 95% original and 5% inspired (not copied or lifted). To me if the music touches your heart it is original. And sure his music has touched millions. I don't care what others say. I don't see why you should be ashamed when someone says ARR copied. I think the way we project him to people really matters. If you tell people that he is the only 100% original composer, defenitely you will be challenged as everyone interprets music in a different way. And one can never be a complete authority in all types of music. I never get into arguments about things like copying and lifting because I lack musical knowledge. Instead I tell people to compare his music with the output from other musicians and even an idiot can say that ARR is way ahead without considering factors like hits or flops, box office, popularity etc. So just leave out the very very few instances when he might have been inspired and look at his whole body of work. Defenitely you judgment cannot get clouded by that small % of inspiration that you don't have time to appreciate the other part of his music. To me ARR still continues to give great music, as good as his earlier days but probably lacks popular appeal because the standard of the masses have fallen and not his music. We Indians are always fond of the numbers game so naturally there is bound to be more criticism when he may not be topping the popularity charts. To me geniuses like ARR never falter, they may have their low periods but will always be remembered. Common man, let us enjoy his creativity and not argue about songs from history. anand - Original Message -- Explore, Experience, Enjoy A.R.Rahman - The Man, The Music, The Magic. Re: [arr]: Annd Milnd Lftd dirctly frm Rhmn's aal COPYCAT rahman
in the beginin of raaga dance rahman used a loop which is there in sample loops which almost all musicians occupy( i guess its the same with anand milind).i once told in the group about some songs which rahman copied/lifted/inspired/ etc..and i got mixed responses, like some teaching me meaning of the word copy ,one going deep into my character( he shud be a phycologist)and even it was recommended that i should be thrown out of this group.but only one guy replied properly and explained about beats and drums available with MDs.i had given a list of songs in which rahman had used music that doesnt belong him. and none was able to explain them properly and completely.it was from this group itself i reached at the site IESPANA and found many such cases. a true fan of rahman shud not encourage him using others' music.we shud not be blind of rahman craze but shud be right kind of fans.he is ofcrse the king and i fell he is far beyond better than any other musician india has ever seen.he is really havin the potential to go international.but we shudnt mislead him by blindly praising such false sides of his music.just consider songs jumbalika ,parkathe etc. they were mere direct lifts. i dont care being out of the group for this mail.bcoz i beleve im a true fan and i will criticize him. the lifted cases were told to me by my friends.i was well known in my school for being an ARR fan but these cases made me ashamed and i had no explanation to give them.
