still people were very patient. and we were enjoying by singing (crying) ARR
songs from jodha akbar, bombay etc. up  to 8.00pm as boss was a little bit
late. and at last that moment came.. boss entered by singing Oh Saaayaa after
finishin the theme music in SDM. the stadium was exploding that time... then
the musical extravaganza started. Padakali chandichankiri by Benny Dayal and

Malargale by Chitraji and Hariharanji...No words to describe..But the real
magics were yet to come...with boss singing Rehna tu...and Khwaja meri kwaja
and maula maula at one stretch...then started the explosion with musthafa,
pappu cant dance and antha arabikadaloram... and the show ended with jai ho and

[arr] Gulzar on ARRs Double win

2009-02-25 Thread sajin mohan
Speaking on A.R. Rahman's two Oscars, Gulzar said: It's like the song I wrote
for Guru for him - 'Ek lo ek muft'. He got one Oscar and then the other one was
a bonus. Happily, I'm part of the second one.
Gulzar was not in Los Angeles when the double Oscar for Slumdog Millionaire
including one for a song Jai ho written by the poet-extraordinaire was
announced Sunday.
In fact, he wasn't even watching the Oscars when the Oscar for Jai ho was
announced.
Forget about me. I feel very proud of Rahman -- always have, always will. I
think Rahman brought a change to Indian film songs. He gave a new form to the
film song. This recognition at the Oscars proves that he has made a world of
difference to the Hindi film song. Otherwise classical Indian music was always
known globally even before the film songs.
Gulzar reminisced on Rahman and said: I started noticing his path-breaking
tendency when he did his first score with me in Dil Se. But even before that he
was doing pioneering work.
When I heard the announcement for his first Oscar, I got a lump in my throat.
It was enough for me. I got up and left the room. I didn't know my song 'Jai
ho' won the Oscar. My son-in-law Govind came and hugged me and said, 'It's won
a double Oscar - one for your song.'
Gulzar feels the double Oscar is a benchmark for our cinema. It makes Indian
cinema a part of world cinema, just like there are Asian awards that make us
part of Asian cinema. Oscars certainly put us under a global gaze. Since the
Oscars are American, our Indian films never before went into mainstream
categories. Slumdog Millionaire has opened up doors for our cinema.
Gulzar is also very proud of Resul Pookutty who won an Oscar for sound mixing
in the Danny Boyle's rags-to-riches drama Slumdog Millionaire
Rahman's Oscar we all expected. I'm happy to be part of his second Oscar. But
Resul's recognition is a breakthrough for all technicians in Indian cinema.
Gulzar would also like make mention of Sukhwinder singh who sang the
Oscar-winning song Jai ho. No one else is mentioning him. He's an integral
part of Jai ho. Of course Rahman is the most important part of the song. But
after that Sukhwinder and I are also important components in the song, he said.

Heyyy Vithur...
Your selections are superb...But how can you avoid Taal from your list?? We all
know that selecting 10 of ARR sir is just like going to sun However deeply
analyze  each and every song... itz to difficult but i dont think that
we can not avoid Taal and Kannathil Muthamittal.. Especially the BGM in
Kannathil muthamittalGoosebumping...Better not to try to find out the best
10 out of ARR's compositions... all are best...
And what about Munpe vaa frm JOK??? ARR himself told it as one of his
favourite...

Wow Sergie..ur list itself is giving goosebumps..
one reason for trying to find 10 best soundtracks is not to find
the best ten, but in our efforts we will revisit a few tracks which
we havent heard in a long time.. :)

It is very difficult to list 10 best album of ARR Sir. Quite
impossible, as I think that many of them should be in the list, for
example:

 Kandukonden Kandukonden,
Uzhavan (especially for Kannilil ennai iramho, Pennalla
Pennalla)
 Taal,
 Pukar,
 Rangeela,
Taj Mahal (especially for Kuliruthu Kuliruthu)
 May Madam (especially for Minnale)
 Boys (especially for Ale Ale)
 Meenakshi,
Jillundru Oru Kadhal (especially for Anbae Va, New York)
Swades (especially for Yeh Jo Desh, Saawariya, Aahista)
Indira (what a song thoda thoda malarntha enna),
Sangamam (especially for Mazhaitulli , Margazhi tingal, Varaga
Nathi karai oram, Mudhal Mudhal)
 Fire,
 Earth,
 Water,
 Kaadhalan (especially for Ennavalae adi)

Guys, could not make a proper list, there are too many, I am sure
I am missing a lot of others

Jai Ho! My 2 years old son sings it many times a day. The
funiest thing is that he wakes up singing it even before having his
breakfast.

The top 10 greatest AR Rahman film soundtracks
   Sidin Vadukut - Wednesday, February 25, 2009 10:34 AM
Don't take our word for it.
It's what you, the readers of this blog, told us after
enthusiastically participating in the poll mentioned in the last
post. Many of you left comments and dozens of you polled. At the
final count, we had exactly 200 votes when we decided to analyze
results at around 10:30 AM this morning. We had asked you to
choose
from five films of our choosing (Rang De Basanti, Roja, Pudhiya
Mugam, Delhi 6 and Lagaan) plus Slumdog Millionaire and let you
add
films of your own choosing. And you committed music fans added
plenty: we had atleast one vote for a total of 25 films.
(Opinions
made in the comments section have not been taken into account.
Not
because we don't like your comments, we crave comments, but
because
we could be double counting people who commented and polled.)
Here in reverse order of votes won are the top 10 most popular
ARR
film soundtracks according to PlayThings readers:
   Number 10: Thiruda Thiruda

A ARR-Mani Ratnam project from 1993 that did not do too well
at the
box office but won plenty of fans for its music. Every track was
a
hit including Veerapandi Kottayile, Konjam Nilavu and Rasathi.
Little
known fact about Thiruda Thiruda: the writing credits for this
movie
goes to a then little known writer and film maker Ram Gopal
Varma. He
went on to later make Ram Gopal Varma ki Aag and make me want to
bludgeon myself to death with a remote control.

   Number 9: Iruvar

Again a ARR-MR project, Iruvar was a controversial lightly
veiled
biopic of Tamil politician, film star and god-on-earth MG
Ramachandran. No one will forget the Hello Mister song in the
movie
not just for the music itself but for the unveiling of a young,
sexy
Aishwarya Rai in her debut film. Cue goosebumps. And then some.
(Also
  Mohanlal! Yay!)

   Number 8: Alaipayuthe

Yes, this ARR-MR collaboration business is beginning
