Wonderful singing by Benny and the Nadaswaram ending is surely a page from the Rehna Tu continuum outro. Nothing fancy in this composition, but the feeling left behind is extremely elevating and cleansing. Fantastic start. (8/10) 2) Anbil Avan: ARR at his playful best. He must have had a lot of fun putting this track together. There is nothing heavy or mind blowing about this track, but what makes it work for me is the joyful innocence in the melody and the very interesting sonic arrangements using a Shehnai type sound juxtaposed with a church organ sound. The musical interlude that has this also has some very nice, quick chord progressions that defy banality. The melody sticks easy and would be a fun song to dance with. (7/10) 3) Vinnathaandi Varuvaayaa: Wow..what a minimalistic impact! There is only one religion that they follow – Rahman’s music. They call him “Boss”. And no points for guessing who their God is. I know, it is crazy calling a human being God. But craziness comes to them naturally. The amount of pride these people take in being a Rahmaniac is bewildering. They would have first hand information of his compositions. What movies he has signed, what song is coming next, researching deep into each one of his compositions – they take all this up as their duty. Following Rahman in his concerts, buying original CDs on the first day of music release, posting their thoughts in various groups are all part of their duties. They do it blindly. Once you are a Rahmaniac, there is no looking back. You have to catch up with every composition of his’. And defending every composition of his too when people accuse that the songs are not up to Rahman’s standard. It is mighty hard for them to accept that any Rahman composition can be “ordinary”. Ask them what the one thing is that you want to do in life”. The answer would be simple –Meet the Boss! One of the things you would notice about rahmaniacs is all of them would have their status message reflecting his song names/movie names etc. It is not to show off their craziness. They do not know any other way in which they can express the happiness, bliss, eternal piece they feel while listening to a his album. And the pleasure you get when you play the CD for the first time, is unmatched. The CD would be played in loop. And on each round of listening, the music grows on you. Slow nectar, they call it. There are other songs/compositions too which would be like cocaine – would shoot up to the brain straight. These people need no drugs to follow the music. His music in itself would take the effect. So what is bringing out this huge outpour of emotions into words. The Oscars ? The Golden Globe? I guess not. Something better has happened in the year 2009. It started with a certain song called Arziyan. Life had a new meaning to it. People say you have to die to go to heaven. I tell them I have been their atleast a thousand times – each time I hear Arziyan. I thought that had to be the best composition of the year. But along came Passage. The moment I heard Tango, I was paralyzed. I could not understand the emotion that I was going through. From happiness to fear to anger to sorrow, I felt them all together at a single point. And by the time the harmonica, violin and the keyboard had stopped playing, I was transported. I did not want to open my eyes. I did not want to come back to the real world. But then I had to. Since I knew that more was coming my way. A (re)treat was coming my way. And today, the day on which “Couples Retreat” is unveiled, I thank God, the real one, for having had me live in this era – The era in which A.R.Rahman lived. The fact that his mother is Muslim and father Hindu makes it somewhat uncomfortable for the neighborhood to accept him without reservations. And when he begins to show an interest in Bittu (Sonam Kapoor) -- who is so desperate to break out of the conventional shackles that she is even willing to elope with a scoundrel -- we know there is trouble brewing. Unfortunately, Mehra jumps from a small, intimate ring into a large broad-based one by introducing caste-based politicians and a devilish though fictional character in the form of a black monkey that is out to rape women and loot property. It is into this trap that Roshan walks in, his American upbringing making him incapable of understanding the conspiratorial mood in Delhi 6. The multiplicity of events and the last scene where Abhishek and Amitabh Bachchan are talking (most likely in Heaven) are absolutely bizarre. A.R. Rahman's music is certainly not his best, and the editing that appears in such a tearing hurry to push each shot away does little to give a real feel of the situations or the characters. In the end, Delhi 6 remains just a bird's eye-view of a locality with men and events disappearing as fast they appear. guys..i have a ARR picture printed t-shirtcost is Rs.350 ...i just went to annanagar(chennai) kodak showroomi gave the picture of ARR which i created using adobe photoshop(basic)..they scanned and printed the t-shirt...In the evening itself i got the t-shirt..so i think,this is a better way..nowadys these kodak and many other photo stores are doing works like this..pics in cups,t-shirts..etc..so instead of shipping and sending...do this..this will save your time and you can create your own t-shirt pics toothanks.. With the only Rahman release in 2009 being Delhi-6, one eagerly awaits the soundtrack of Blue with bated breath. Expectations break the sky-high limit due to the Oscar tag associated with A.R. Rahman, as also the wonderful soundtracks he has given his fans in 2008 (a bumper year for both him and his fans, what with six albums releasing back to back every three months †Jodhaa Akbar, Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na, Ada, Yuvvraaj, Slumdog Millionaire, and Ghajini). So does one get what he expects from this album? Read on to find out. Sensuous cooing, backed by the right pads and synth loops strikes all the right notes to addict the listener right from the word ‘Go’ for the bumper opener of this soundtrack, Chiggy Wiggy, which turns out to be an experiment (albeit highly successful) from the composer’s side, presented to us. Australian pop sensation Kylie Minogue turns out to be a powerhouse performer for the first half of the song which is backed by the right set of beats that will make the listener groove to the track from the opening beats. Categorised under the Pop/RB category, the first half of the song turns out to be a winner hands down, while the second half takes a sudden Bhangra twist, bringing in Sonu Nigam into the picture. The latter manages to give the right impact to the song, which suddenly morphs from Western to Indian, though it still doesn’t lose on the addictiveness factor. In fact, it’s the second half which might turn out to have some detractors from the urban audience, even it would grow over them after sometime. In fact, it can be a vice-versa situation for the rural crowd in India. Suzanne provides ample backing vocals to this song, however her efforts might go in vain, as people would tend to think that it is Kylie who is singing. Lyrics by Abbas Tyrewala turn out to be innovative; nobody would really do something as pitching in semi-Urdu lyrics into a subtle Bhangra beat - which he manages brialliantly to do with this song. Overall, this one turns out to be a seriously mind-blowing number, and for some, might require a few hearings for the song to completely envelope them into addictiveness. In the end, the song will manage to conquer the hearts of all; it is just a matter of time. Speaking about conquering hearts, it is Shreya Ghoshal who does exactly that (and some more) for the song Aaj Dil Gustakh Hai, which has the composer’s stamp all over it. It shows; be it the melody or the beat, or the synthesizer or the pads even for once you don’t feel that Rahman has deviated from his version of “the lighthearted- cum-intense romantic track�, which is a good news, as it is this very style of his that really captures the imaginations of millions of fans around the world. Coming back to Shreya and her new sensuous vocal avatar, her voice totally floors you. Sukhwinder Singh doesn’t disappoint either, he delivers yet another hit with the composer (who has inadvertently used Singh in many of his successful soundtracks) . Lyrics by Mayur Puri (who probably makes a first-time collaboration with the renowned composer) are contemporary and simple enough to understand †which is exactly what is required to connect with the youth of today.
