Hi everyone I'm enjoying this album from A R R completely. very frankly the 
first time i listened, i was shocked! not a single track which i liked. ( never 
experienced this for any manirathnam's movies even his non A R R ) 

Today i finally started liking all the tracks and true to all Mani and A R R 
combo this is too good.
 
the sound is completely different. Arrangements took a long time for me to sink 
in...but today for about two hrs i could not here to the songs and that's when 
i realized how much i liked it.  

Well going by the songs and the sound i think this movie is going to deal with 
some serious issue...like most of mani's movies

My guess is that Ravan could be about naxalas ..

friends i guess we are in a for a bigger treat in form of the BGM...looking at 
the pics the hard work of the shooting crew would be well complimented by A R R.

The best bgms of A R R have been for Mani's more issue based movies such as 
dilse, bombay, iruvur, kannathil ...going by this I'm sure Ravan's BGM is going 
to be outstanding.

seems the movies is not like Water ...but it is Smart in terms of sound Like

I am loving this new Avatar of Rahman. all songs are raw, earthy,
in-your-face and with lots of energy. even the sweetest song in the album -
khilli re doesn't sound all that sugar coated.  the heavy metal style guitar
riffs in thok de killi is so awesome. and i can't get enough of Rekha
Bharadwaj. she is one hell of a singer!

Sometime ago, I read that T-series will be releasing the music of Raavan as 
part of deal with BIG music. Don't know if the agreement is for both tamil and 
hindi versions or hindi alone.

wikipedia is not a source for us to count on. its very much editable by anyone. 
even u can go there and edit and change the date.

i dun think the movie is going to be release anytime sooner. give it another 
4-5 months time. :) till then enjoy VTV. :)

Mani Ratnam (born 1956) - the acclaimed Indian film maker from south India -
has dipped into the great Indian epics and come up with great contemporary
stories before. His 1991 Rajnikanth-Mammooty blockbuster *Thalapati* (Tamil)

had an unmistakable flavor of certain subplots from the Mahabharata -
Rajnikanth's character was a modern day Karna and Mammooty's that of
Duryodhana.

Famous worldwide in the Bollywood and Indian movie lover community, Mani
Ratnam has delivered a string of smart box-office superhits also known for
their great cinematographic qualities - ROJA (1992)

and so on. Mani Ratnam has frequently worked with the now suddenly famous A
R Rahman in many of his movies. In fact, Roja was one of the movies that put
the name Allah Rakha Rahman in media and cinema prominence early on in his
career.

It should not, therefore, come as a big surprise that a couple of years ago
Mani Ratnam started a film project about adapting sections of the Ramayana
into a contemporary movie. The movie was envisioned on a grand scale -
written by Mani Ratnam and *Rensil D’Silva*, to be made in two languages
(Hindi and Tamil), with largely different casts, a lot of action, special
effects and music, as expected, by A R Rahman, who now is reportedly equated
to an Indian version of Mozart.

Mani Ratnam's 2010 epic is titled *RAVAN* in Hindi and *RAAVANA* in Tamil.

RAVAN (the Hindi movie) has a star cast of Abhishek Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai
Bachchan, Bipasha Basu, Vikram, Govinda, Nikhil Dwivedi, Suhasini,
Priyamani, Ravi Kishan, Nikhil Dwivedi and more. Suhasini is Mani Ratnam's
wife. Ravi Kishan is a celebrated Bhojpuri cinema hero who sometimes appears
in Bollywood movies and TV serials.

According to rumors, in Mani Ratnam's adaptation, Vikram is husband of
Aishwarya. Vikram had in the past once shown indiscretion (to put it mildly)
towards a girl, and the girl had been unable to withstand the torment and
killed herself. Abhishek is the brother of this dead girl, and in search of
revenge, kidnaps Aishwarya to get back at Vikram. Things take a romantic
turn when the kidnapper and kidnapee fall in love. Bipasha Basu plays
Ravan's wife Mandodari (the daughter of Maya).

The shooting for Ravan was completed towards the last quarter of 2009. An
important part of the finale of the movie is actually shot in the
controversial Vedic Village in the suburbs of Calcutta.

Meltdown hits Mani?

 Reliance Big Pictures (RBP), which has struck deals with Hollywood studios was 
said to be making four films in Tamil- Mani Ratnam's bi-lingual Ravana in 
Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Cheran's Autograph- 2, Hari directed Surya's Singam to be 
produced by Studio Green, and a Fazil film with Pritviraj. 
Due to world wide recession and economic meltdown, the grapevine is abuzz that 
they have put three of these films for which shooting is yet to start, on the 
backburner. Meanwhile sources in the industry say that they have sent a letter 
to Mani Ratnam to cut down his budget, from the originally signed Rs 120 crore 
to Rs 60 crore! 
This has come as a major setback to Mani who was shooting his film on a lavish 
scale in the forests of Kerala. The meltdown has hit Mani the hardest, as his 
action adventure film, a modern day 'Ramayan' a bi-lingual has top stars like 
Abhishek Bachchan, Aiswarya Rai, Govinda, Vikram, Prabhu, Pritviraj, Karthik, 
Priyamani and so many others. 
Reliance Big Pictures it seems has told Mani that his film is not commercially 
viable at the rate they purchased due to global meltdown and recession. Mani 
will now have to either look for a new producer or do some cost cutting if he 
has to continue with Ravan. 
The corporate theory now is that all top actors and directors in Bollywood are 
willing to slash their salary, and bring down production cost. So why can't 
Mani do some drastic cost cutting. 
However when contacted the COO of Big Pictures Mahesh Ramanathan, refused to 
comment. Mani Ratnam also was not available for comment.
