I have voted for ARR for sure, but noting that "PRINCE GROUP" of dancers too 
are nominated, I don't know what to do

ARR is our Guruji and he has won 2 Oscars and many other awards this year, so 
naturally I am biased towards him.

But having seen the performances of the PRINCE GROUP on TV, I have no words to 
describe their talent... just just just out of this world !

I think I will vote PRINCE GROUP also..

Grammy Awards for his soundtracks from*Slumdog Millionaire*.

 The track *Jai Ho* which got Rahman two Academy awards and a Golden Globe,

Ten reasons why A.R.Rahman deserves the CNN-IBN Indian of the Year award, in 
the Entertainment category.

1. Three of his songs have been shortlisted in the Best Song Category at the 
Oscars, a first for Indian cinema.
 2. Two of his movies, Water and Rang De Basanti have been nominated in Best
Foreign Film Language for the Oscars, from Canada and India respectively.
  3. Composed the music for the most expensive stage musical, the Lord of The 
Rings, drawing global attention to Indian talent.
4. Composed a poverty anthem for the United Nations to raise funds for the 
eradication of poverty globally.

5. Took Bollywood music into the mainstream consciousness of the Western 
audience when his compositions, 'Bombay Theme' and 'Chaiyya Chaiyya' were used 
in Hollywood movies 'The Lord of War' and 'Inside Man' respectively.

 6. Performed to an audience of over 3 comprising of more than 70% native 
Americans at the famed Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles.

 7. Performed at Karaikal in Pondicherry for the
Tsunami affected people of Tamil Nadu.
8. Launched his own music label KM Musiq to promote classical and 
non-mainstream music
9. Launched the A.R.Rahman Foundation to promote the development of new musical 
talent.
10. His Roja was one of only two Indian films to feature in Time magazine's

 I guess we can also put in few words about The A R
Rahman Foundation (to support the underprivileged) and
his own audio label (K M Musiq), which is primarily to
support both classical and contemporary styles of
music (e.g. One of the First Cuts from his label is a
Ghulam Ali Album) and his effort as the UN Ambassador
for the "Stop TB Millenium Campaign". 
It may also be noteworthy to mention that he has been
the co-composer of "The Golden Age"..a Shekar Kapur
sequel of Elizabeth, a film that was nominated for 8
Oscars in 98. (including the one for "Best Music,
Original Dramatic Score")

Gopal - Can we quote Roja's selection in Times 100 as
an achievement for this year ? (Guess that was a 2005
feat!)

Well i am not saying that rahman is the indian who made india the most
proud this year but certainly deserves to be one among them.Our First aim
is to get our rahman as the winner in the cateogry winner(That is indian who
made india most proud in field of entertainment) .

mentioning that in field of entertainment rahman is the one who made us
the most proud this year,along with the reasons.The reasons could be the
below :

  Part 1 - About the Award
   
   
  The year 2006 is on its way out and CNN-IBN focusses on some of the people 
who made India proud this year. 
  
  The first of its kind in India, this is the biggest celebration of 
citizenship in Indian television history—the CNN-IBN Indian of the year award. 
  
  The award is the highest individual civilian honour in the fields of 
politics, business, sports, entertainment and public service. There is also an 
award for the Global Indian.
  
  Here's how the selection process works — first our editorial team will draw a 
list of nominees in each category. Then, to make  sure we haven't missed out 
anyone important, a five member advisory council will then ratify the final 
list.

  Part 2 - What we Fans could do.
   
   
  Well i am not saying that rahman is the indian who made india the most proud 
this year but certainly deserves to be one among them.Our First aim is to get 
our rahman as the winner in the cateogry winner(That is indian who made  india 
most proud in field of entertainment) .
   
  What we need to do is..First mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] com , mentioning that 
in field of entertainment rahman is the one who made us the most proud this 
year,along with the reasons.The reasons could be the below :
   
  1. 3 of his songs have been shortlisted in the Oscar's Best Song Cateogry, a 
first time in indian cinema
  2. 2 of his movies,Water and Rang De Basanti have been nominated in Best 
Foreign Film Language for Oscar From Canada and Inda respectively.
  3. Scored music for Lord of The Rings Stage play,taking indian music to the 
global audiences
  4. Gave 3 blockbuster albums,From National intergration and though provoking  
songs in Rang De Basanti,to classic albums like Guru & Water
  5. Has composed song for UN of the issue of poverty.
  6. Many of his songs have been used in various english movies,some notables 
are use of Chayyian Chayyina song in Spike lee's Inside man,use of bombay theme 
in Nichloas Cage's Lord of war,making the foriegners note the indian music.
  7.Did concerts all over the world,making the foriegners note of the Bollywood.
  8. He conducted a small concert along with his troupe at karaikal for the 
Tsunami affected people, with intrest on his own,showing the care that he has 
for people of india.
   
   
  and i think there are many more points where our rahman made us proud...so we 
shoud make our rahman atleast  as the indian who made us most proud in field of 
entertainment this year.
