[arr] GURU: REVIEW

2007-01-12 Thread Aditya YVS

jus saw the film today,
Easily the best performance by a hindi actor in ages.Direction and
techincally a masterpiece.Especiall camera work and the way camera
moves...wen ppl sit on the swing.MUSIC IS OUTSTANDING. But story is not
truely inspirational. yet at the end of it feels reasonable to say " guru ko
phansi to nahi de sakte hai naa" so i forgive him for these few minor
errors. But i felt dilse and yuva were much better in terms of story and
pace, especially climax and how mani takes it there.
This is one film where rahman has given more to the screen than mani has
given.but for rahmans music thsi movie wud have been just another
movie.Ourmasters most evocative background in recent time.

[arr] guru review

All:

Listened to all the songs in guru. Here is the review

1. Ay hairathey:

The pick of the album with an exquisite mixing of
dhamdhara, ghazalish singing of hariharan accompanied by the beautuful
voice of alka. This is a lilting melody. The violins, accordion and
rahmans "dhamdhara jashna" beyond the mind. gives a bhajan feel and
all swaying to its melody.

2. Tere bina:

Excellent rendition by Rahman, beautiful lyrics, Chinmayis lilting
voice takes the user beyond.the alaap for nusret ali kahan is
fantastic. again takes u beyond the mind.

rating: *

3. Jaage hain:

Starts of on "Lakshmi kalyanam viabogame " note. The violins, the
grandiose orchestraic feel with a lot of soul. both rahman and chitra
give the song a liling touch and the high pitch by rahman is beyond
the mind. This pretty much sums up the the theme of the movie.

rating: *

4. Barso re:

Again a great rain number with a soft melodic voice of shreya
gosal and great instrumentation from rahman. awesome !!

rating: *

5. Maaya:

nice arabic beats, sensuous voice of maryam toller, a chilky beats
of rahman and the buddha bar lounge "flute" just adds to the
grandiose of this song.

rating:

6. Baazi laga:

a pretty normal number. good peppy one!!
