Good job Jahanzeb.. it's always refreshing to see people sharing their opinions
on ARR's albums. In your case, you did say that in your opinion, Dilhi6 was
ARR's best work since Taal. I respect your opinion, nevertheless, like Ashok, I
feel that there were other albums that were in par with Taal and Dilhi6. The
following are my humble opinions on some of ARR's tunes (post Taal):
1) Lagaan- Frankly speaking, I was never a fan of periodic movies. But I
changed my opinion after watching Lagaan. And I have no one to thank except ARR
for this change of mind. The moment I heard Oh Paalanhare, my heart skipped a
beat. And how could I forget the foot tapping Radha Kaise, the vibrant Ghanan
Ghanan and the energizing Mitwa and Chale Chalo? The songs were practically
telling me to watch the film, which I did and boy, what an experience! By the
end of the film, I was practically flooded with happy tears, totally mesmerized
by the brilliant film and the amazing songs!
2) Saathiya- I don't really pay much attention to remakes, particularly after
having heard... and loved the original versions. Likewise, Saathiya didn't
really move me as much as Alaipayuthey did. Nevertheless, just about recently,
I heard Shreyasi, the young contestant of Saregamapa Lil' Champs rendering
Chupke Se, and what a mind blowing performance! The following day, I purchased
the cd and Saathiya, particularly Chupke Se have been playing in my car stereo
ever since! I still don't think Saathiya to be in par with Taal, yet I couldn't
think of any other MDs who might have been successful in bringing out the
feeling of being in love as wonderfully as ARR did here.
3) Rang De Basanthi- I usually purchase ARR's audio cd way before the movie is
being released. It's a habit that I religiously follow til today. But when
RDB's soundtrack was released, I was busy with the examinations in University
and the preparations prevented my from purchasing the album. Soon after my
exams, the movie was released and I decided to watch it. The outcome...I was
left speechless...I simply couldn't decide where Rakeysh's directions end and
ARR's music begin. The only thing I could say was that they were complementing
each other all the way. I loved all the songs and the way they were picturised
but needless to say, Luka Chuppi was my all-time favourite! The mood of the
song and scenes that followed suit would break the heart of even the most
toughest person on earth.
4) Jodha Akbar- The second periodic film I watched after Lagaan...and who
wouldn't watch the film when the names of ARR and Ashuthosh are on the credits?
Did they live up to the expectations? They surpassed the expectations, I must
say. Jashn-e Bahara and In Lamhon Ke Daaman are a treat to the ears, and
Manmohana Kwaja Mere Kwaja just took my breath away.
I'm sure that ARR's albums would have touched many of your lives the way it did
mine. And Jahanzeb, thanks again for giving me the opportunity to reminisce the
greatness of ARR's music!

Wow, this is good. But I would have loved to see Rang De
Basanti and Jodha Akbar at least with par to Delhi 6. JA was a classic man and
RDB was no less.
