Jai Ho-famed Oscar winner A R Rahman's team will be in Meghalaya to record the
beats of the 100-drums Wangala Festival, a part of which will be included in
the composition being prepared for the opening ceremony of next year's
Commonwealth Games.

The 100-drums Wangala Festival, the biggest celebration of the Garos in
Meghalaya, will commence from tomorrow at Asanang in West Garo Hills district.

West Garo Hills deputy commissioner Sanjay Goyal said that music maestro Rahman
has decided to include the Wangala drum beats in his composition as the only
representation from Northeast India.

He said that troupes from neighbouring Bangladesh, where there is a good chunk
of Garo populace, are also expected to participate in the festival.

The two-day harvest festival will witness Wangala troupes drawn from different
parts of Garo Hills.
