As it was named a Brand New World tour, all the songs played in the concert
must be Brand New.

Absolutely true, it was a desaster not playing rangeela, rdb, humse hai
muqabla, chaiyyan caiyyan, hindustani, saathiya etc. Most of the songs
performed were from slumdog millionaire & delhi 6. All my friends felt the same
thing & even told that it wasn't worth.

Probably that's the reason why they had more melodious songs as compared to the
peppy and foot-tapping scores for the show.

I will try to reply with my perspective of the show and the "lack of
enthusiasm" from the audience ..

Being resident of Pune for past 25 years, my conclusion is Pune audience is
different than other cities, such as, they do not make much of noise during any
concert, let it be a movie / classical / light orchestra etc. They like to
listen to the songs with all seriousness and appreciate the nuances and finer
details of any music during the show and AFTER the song and the show is over,
they like to clap and show the appreciation. a somewhat disciplined
behavior.

Even for our RAHMANIA shows by The Wandering Souls, we get cheers, and claps,
but the audience does not get up from seat. It is somewhat the culture of this
soil.

And for dancing and creating noise, there are Discos

Enjoy and Jai Ho !

Hi all,

I do agree with Dinesh. What he said is completely true!
You can not say 'There was lack of Enthusiasm'
People of Pune loves to listen any concert quietly
and appalaud after finishing it.
Being Puneite I say It's in the soil. The admiration you can see on their faces.
Continuous shouting and dancing while concert is ON ; is not a culture here.
Everybody was charged in concert..Everybody was appreciating and
admiring.
When 'jai ho' started many people were standing on chairs and
singing jai ho with AR.(including me)
So there was Rahman magic in the air and people loved concert to
the core!

This was my second concert after the 2003 Unity of Light concert in Mumbai.
I remember that the banter by the compere was a distinct putoff. Like you
said, to each his own.
The Pune concert rocked. Start to finish.

I would like to clarify that whatever I mailed was my friend's thought
who is a Pune resident. She wanted me to convey the same to the group
and hence I did. No offence.

Partly agree to Dinesh's point about the relative seriousness with which we
ingest our music, and steering clear of the "we Punekars are hard to please"
clause :-):

I spoke to/read comments of a few such disappointed attendees, one of whom even
described the show as "lacklustre". Largely, this seemed because:
* they had never heard some of the Tamil songs (esp. the Sivaji ones) before
* even songs like 'jaage hai.n' were relatively obscure to them
* the screens & speakers closest to the standing sections were not the best
* There was a perceptible dip in buzz between songs: perhaps a good emcee was
needed when the stage was being set for the next piece
* Some were there to 'shack their body' (sic) :-)
* Some were there mainly to (re-)listen to their favourite tracks - not really
to observe the millions of small & interesting things happening on stage or to
discover more of ARR's repertoire
* Compared to some other concerts, there wasn't much of a stirring up of the
crowd by way of banter (though why one would want this in such a show is
debatable).

Just a case of one's poison being another's nectar, I suppose.
