If you've mentioned about Thottal Poomalarum (tamil movie: New), its only the 
lyrics thats been used.
 
Its actually recomposed & rearranged. Remix is different from recomposing.

its a trend nowadays..

u cant say that as copy
example: in Naan avan illai u can listen Palaniyappa Nyana palaniappa is used 
in the song naan avan illai...
The purpose is not copy,,
but to make the song more beautiful. in another way its a sign of appreciating 
old music/song.. ..
another example is in movie Oram Poo in song Muyelekkum Amaikum race got old 
music is played in Distortion Guitar and the song also follow the old melody... 
did by GV prakash...
in Arinthum ariyamelum in song Thee pidikka song got old song music right...
it is not intended to copy.. but its a trend...
Nowadays u can check all the music directors do that cause its a trend and u 
shoud appreciate Rahman cause he started it long time ago but other director is 
doing it now.
The idea came from him...

I will be least surprised if the so called professional and/or amateur
experts with insight, find fault, one day, with our great MD, the legend at
his forties [?], for using "sa re ga ma pa da ni" and the standard ragaas. I
wish we stop detective work coupled with sadistic pleasure, and learn to
enjoy what is served, which is a glorious serving for the music lovers.
