Rahman’s ‘Jaage Hain’; Guru’s delight

A R Rahman has done it again. His superlative brilliance in the
soundtrack of ‘Guru’ is a revelation for the music lovers.
Be it ‘Barso Re’ where Aishwarya is dancing like a dream
under the canopy of blue sky, ‘Ae Hairathe Aashiqui’ or
‘Tere Bina’ Rahman gems are a collector’s delight.
But the song that leaves you speechless has to be ‘Jaage
Hain’. For it’s not merely a song but a state of mind. A
stream of sub-consciousness that flows unabated invoking the spiritual
side of your personality that stays dormant.

Chitra starts off the proceedings in a slow sedate manner as her vocals
unleash the magic with little or no accompaniment in the background. AR
joins her in the whispering mode pleading for some sleep for he has
remained awake for most part of the night anyways. And then he shifts
gears magnificently and touches the highest contours of magnificence.
There are layers of meanings in this song. It’s about human life
where happiness is a brief episode in the general drama of pain.
‘Jaage Hain’ is one song that catapults Rahman to the
level of greatest maestros or artistes who delivered much more than mere
entertainment through their art.

Rahman magic flows like an impassioned river determined to embrace the
sea of timelessness.
