Ya Fanaa was trance in a way that trance synths were used. But it was very 
vocal heavy, so not 'text book' trance. But i dont think we need to worry about 
genres. He invents new ones and that even better.

I think ARR has not done any pure Psychedelic Rock.

He has done some Psychedelic stuff like 'Ishq Ada hai',  'Satrangi Re'.
I want something of the lines of 'California Dreaming' , 'Comfortably Numb'.

I would like to say... generally artists follow a specific genre of music
when comes to an individual album. Only in Films composers are provided
scope to follow certain genres suitable for the sceen/picturization... so
it's not Rahman who decides the genre to compose

However Rahman has certain specific mood to his creation which produces a
different genre called "Rahman genre" so if he is composing
Rock/Pop/classical/latin/Western Classical/Reggae/RnB etc... all are
ultimately falling in "Rahman genre".

I'm sure...there are listeners who doesn't listen to all Rahman creations
like us but if you start a Rahman song which he didn't listen to
before...he can assume that to be a Rahman song. that is the signature
genre..

Actually we can not say that AR has not composed something genuine in particular
genre.As film music depends on so many things, it's not MD's liberty at all.
We can say AR did not get chance to compose in some genres like ghazals
and some ethnic kinda stuff.

Music is such a vast ocean.New things and melodies are composed daily.
I am very much sure that AR will explore more genres because he best
is still yet to come.

Pure carnatic krithi style (not carnatic based film song). Something which 
strictly adheres to the carnatic concepts.

And ofcourse, the full fledged fusion of indian classical + western classical 
(where the core identities remain intact and yet the confluence gives birth to 
a new experiment).

First of all, good to hear from you again!
Here is my wish list
1.I may have missed something, but I haven't heard an ARR song witht he
Irish flute. I love that instrument.
Even if he may have already used it , it'll be good to hear him use it again
:)
2. I also think a couple of western country music tracks will be a good
change
3. It has been a while since a nice fast paced qawwali from him ( the last I
think was noor un allah - Meenaxi)
4. Rock - We haven't heard much rock from him. Some Mettalica style music
would be awesome!!
