Re: DSTC Bug ARS 6.0.3 Patch 20 and Application-Bus-Time-Diff Built-In Function

2007-02-24 Thread Derek Berube
This specific environment is running Oracle 9i Release 2 and Solaris
8. Everything else seems to check out from a testing purpose. It's
only the AR System Business Time calculations that are giving us pause.

We upgraded, via the installers from ARS 6.0.1 patch 1414 and the
only problems we had were the User/Group forms were stripped of
permissions - on all six servers that were upgraded. Aside from
that, we didn't encounter any of the form corruption that has been
reported on the list.

Hi, Derek:

This is very good information. But, since a few posts have been
flying around about the application-bus-time-diff run process, I
was curious about your environment information. As you know, there
are many variables that play into this DST thing.

You already said that your environment was patched, but what is
your environment?

Operating System? Database?

ADM:ARSlist Sponsorship: BMC Partners, are you interested?

2007-02-24 Thread Daniel Bloom
Part of the move to guarantee independence and non-interference was my
establishing

Servers dedicated to the ARSlist, and the associated costs. I didn't enjoy
companies

moving the system from State to State without notice, or allowing law suits
to force

the removal of posts from the system. I also got tired of explaining to my
bosses/Hosts that

no they could not have the ARSlist membership list for an advertising
campaign.

This of course costs not just my time, but real dollars as well. Before you
start,

Canadian dollars aren't that much smaller than US these days, they are real
dollars :-)

So, I thought why not have a Platinum-Gold-Silver set of levels and

go out to several of the Partner firms to test the waters and the concept.

The reception has been mixed but is moving forward. My favorite BMC Partner
was the

first to commit, but those announcements come on March 1st . You know who
they are,

they sponsored several of the past ARSlist Award Sessions.

I am looking for a few more companies willing to pay to have themselves
advertised

in several ways as being Key Supporters of the BMC Remedy [Atrium CMDB etc]

Community, Friends of the ARSlist. This will be in the form of a Marketing
Agreement.

Please contact me directly for details if you are interested, serious
inquiries only please,

and I will send out the details.

p.s. I had tried to get the Company whose web site claimed that they host

the arslist to pay some cash towards it, but to no avail (lawsuit still
pending).

Fortunately they have changed their web site at least. I don't want to
publicly

state the Company, because the individuals involved are really good people,

good at what they do and friends of mine. The problem wasn't caused by them

and they shouldn't get smeared here for it. The problem was higher up in the
Company.

p.p.s. and there are no plans for pop ups or redirects to other sites .

Re: Cleint Bug (Minor) in 7.0.01-patch01 with Modify All and Hour Glass

2007-02-24 Thread Robert Molenda
Well is one visual, another is the "Save Button" changing the yellow
color back to a grey, but when you have a bunch of windows open (like I
am sure we all do) it is nice just to run the rodent (mouse) into a
portion of the window to see if it is still ticking (hour-glass) or
pointing (pointer)...

Another "Usability" nuisance I just tripped over... (oh boy a new ticket
:) )

In V6 when you are using advanced search, my previous "mouse + keyboard"
action was:

Click advanced button
Click Field Label
>> the input focus for the keyboard was placed into the advanced search
area automatically <<
Press the 'end' key to get to the end of the advanced search string
Type parms and stuff...
F5

Now the input focus for the keyboard is not changed...

This is kind-of like them changing the major keystroke sequences (F2,
F3, F5, CNTL-T, CNTL-E(uro), ...) in every release right? Talk about
usability...

I know these are just "hey that is different" and for someone who has
not used the WUT before they will not tell. But the good/bad news is
that on Monday we are starting our internal ITSM7 UAT, and these are all
guys that "know what they are doing" and are very used to the client.
Hey wait, since we are only rolling the WEB to these guys I can blame it
on that :)

I found today and opened a ticket, that the 7.0.01-Patch 01 user tool,
when doing the modify all for a large amount of records, sets the cursor
to the hour-glass in the beginning, but quickly returns it to the
pointer, giving the illusion that the operation has completed, but is
still actually grinding away...

Just an annoyance factor, but something that was "not that way in the
past but is like that today"...

Makes me wonder how much code gets re-re-rewritten between these
releases...

I love new features :-)

Re: How to parse contents of char field with multiple rows

2007-02-24 Thread Carey Matthew Black

Cindy,

There are other threads that talk about this "feature" of ARS.

But here is a short response.

ARS (because some databases require it) store all (that is a
carriage return) in the DB as a "whitespace" combination. So in
workflow you have to take that in to consideration. Specifically when
you embed the in the STRSTR function ARS will expand tha to the
"whitespace" combination before that function is stored in the DB.
You can counter that behaviour with the LTRIM function around the part
of the STRSTR function that has the "whitespace" combination.

So you want to do something like:

STRSTR($source_Field$,LTRIM(" "))

That should return where the first CR is in the field $source_Field$.
You can the check that value and make sure it is >=0 and then use the
SUBSTR() function to "split" out part of that string into the target
fields for the parts of the field that you find.

HTH.

Hi All -

Is there any way to parse the contents of a char field that is set to
multiple rows, and has data that looks like this:

John Doe
123 Main Street
Anywhere, Anystate

Where there is a carriage return delimeter? I notice in the dbase, spaces
and carriage returns are "saved" as spaces - but when it's pulled up in the
GUI, the text displays as if carriage returns are present. Anyone know
what does this?

I need to be able to grab a particular LINE of data (i.e. - "123 Main
Street" in the above example).

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks,
Cindy
