Looking for a job in Los Angeles, CA

2008-11-01 Thread Alan Nicoll
I'm taking the VRIF package offered by my current job but I'm too young to quit
working just yet. I'm looking for a job doing Remedy consulting, install,
setup and training. I owned my own business and worked extensively in sales
before I joined a large corporation where I worked in all phases of software
development ending up in the tools group. Along with systems programming and
other tools duties, I've administered a Remedy system since 1995. We use
Remedy to manage the software development for a large (13M LoC, 700+
developers, testers and managers) mechatronic realtime application. Besides
Remedy administration and development I currently code in SQL, Perl and Ruby
and am familiar with java and javascript. I'm also familiar with agile methods
and Design for Lean Six Sigma. I've developed many Remedy applications over
the years automating business processes by working closely with management and
users to make tools that are not only easy to use but provide the information
that is necessary to control the process.

I'm looking for something to start next year as my planned last day at my
present job is mid-December.

Re: Intranet-shop using Remedy

2008-11-01 Thread Mahesh Chandra
I have already implemented a similar thing in ITSP 3 Request Management and
ITSM 7 SRM 2.2

*Option 1: SRM 2.2 OOB Solution *

Create a Service Request Process

 1. Service Catalog: Computer Requests --- Laptop Order a New Laptop

 2. Work Order with 2 Tasks:

Task 1: Get Approval from Manager

  Task 2: Order Laptop

Task 3: Deliver Laptop to the user

All the above tasks are in sequence and each task is dependent on its
predecessor.

*Option 2: SRM 2.2 Custom Workflow*

You can automate the Approval Process if you are creating the above Service
Request Process using the Advanced Form (Needs additional Workflow).

1.Create a Service Request Process with an Advanced Interface Form.

2.On the Advanced Interface Form, provide the list of the available
laptops from your product catalog.

3.Before the Request is submitted, get the Manager info from CTM:People
and validate the information.

4.After the Request is submitted (you will need to add workflow that
will set a flag on the Advanced Form after the Request is submitted), send
an email (HTML formatted) to the manager . On this template, provide a
hyperlink "I Approve" and "I Reject". Clicking on this hyperlink will send
an email to Remedy. Parse the Request Number from the subject line, if
approved, close the Task # 1, if Rejected cancel the Request.

Let me know if I can be further assistance.

Thanks

Mahesh

Re: stripping HTML from email

If you are looking for a more manual way ...

View the email with a view field (which renders the HTML like a
browser) and then copy and paste what you need out of the HTML.

Re: ARERR [8762] GetServerInfo Failed to get initialization values.

2008-11-01 Thread Leonard Neely - FOJ
Hi Abdul,

We encountered similar issues when installing on a 64 bit Windows
environment however, our install was at patch level 004.

This sounds like a server name resolution issue. Is the Server Name
parameter in the ar.cfg file FQDN? If so, try using just the server name
instead.

Just Installed ARS 7.1 P5 on 64 bit OS (Windows 2003 Std Edition) and now
Trying to access AR System Administration Console application via Remedy
User (7.1 p5) tool to see the configuration and add server license. Received
the following Plug-in error:

ARERR [8762] GetServerInfo Failed to get initialization values.
ARERR[623] Authentication Failed

I found BMC KB KM-00025855 which says 2 workarround -

1. adding parameter Server-Plugin-Alias in ar.cfg
2. updating host file with Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN).

I encountered different error when applied workarround, which is :-

ARERR[8203]The Server's RPC version is not supported: RPC programme is
unavailable.

I have tried downgrading to ARS 7.1 patch 4 but no use.

Other observation.
--
1. I can use User Tool to open any form. There is no issue in opening forms
and updating or creating entries.
2. When tried logging via mid-tier getting error ARERR[623] Authentication
Failed.

So can some body provide some hint/clue toward the resolution of this issue?

Intranet-shop using Remedy

2008-11-01 Thread Toby White
Hi Remedy people,

One company asked me if it is possible to create an intranet shop using
Remedy.

How it should work -

1) An employee needs a new laptop. He goes to his intranet page linked to
mid-tier.
2) On the midtier he finds a catalog of laptops and chooses one of them.
3) Remedy sends an email to the employee's manager asking to accept or
reject employee's request.
4) Using a digital signature (maybe not, if too complicated) manager accepts
employee's request.
5) An email goes to procurement department asking to supply a laptop to the
employee.

I know that it is possible to develop such a system, but my question is - is
it possible to configure ITSM 7 to provide this functionality.
My main concern is "catalog of laptops" - decision tree functionality is not
enough for this purpose i think.

Thanks.

Regards,
Toby

Re: How to change the server language?

2008-11-01 Thread BMax
Unfortunately you cannot change SQL Database collation "on the fly". You
can change SQL Server collation, but it will only has effect when you will
create new databases.

I guess you have options:
1. Create new DB with collation you do need. Redo your ARS installation.
2. Transfer a database from one collation to another collation. Pls see MS
KB article about this:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/325335

BTW what version of SQL?

On UNIX one can change the character coding in the startup script. How
to change that on Windows?
