ITSM + DSO. Distributed environment architecture
Dear Listers, I would like to ask if anybody have an experience with DSO+ITSM for big companies. Lets say its major company and its subsidiaries in more than 3 locations(sites). Site network links are not so good to implement centralized database. You need to use DSO. Primary goal is to do transfers of incidents/task from site to site. Secondary goal is to have centralized reporting. No realtime reports(no dashboards) needed, weekly reporting will be ok. Every subsidiary would like to have common foundation data and also to have the ability to add something specific to them only. BMC have released Distributed Service Option (DSO) Implementation with BMC Remedy ITSM 7.5.0x document, but there are no real-life scenarios or guidelines there how to act with DSO option, depending on different factors. So i would like to hear for any suggestions on how-to-DSO-ITSM. Any suggestions or experience sharing are welcome! Re: View forms use the plug-in server in 7.5 ??
Guillaume, check your armonitor.cfg. It seems like patch1 deletes somes lines from this file and this 2 missing lines make troubles. Patch installer makes backup of your armonitor.cfg file. Check your current config file and backup. You'll see difference. In my case after applying patch001 to 7.5 I couldn't create new people record as well as I couldn't create new asset. Of course you'll need to restart your server. 2 lines from armonitor.cfg: 1. Unfortunately you cannot change SQL Database collation on the fly. You can change SQL Server collation, but it will only has effect when you will create new databases. I guess you have options: 1. Create new DB with collation you do need. Redo your ARS installation. 2. Transfer a database from one collation to another collation. Re: HTML emails and the subject line
Rick, you cannot set subject in html format. All you can do is to experiment with encodings in all different ways. You can refer to RFC's http://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc822 http://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc2822 I think you can try to play with encoding in Outlook profile if you are using MAPI as outgoing email. Also you should check with you exchange admin settings for sending emails inside and outside your exchange organization. You can try to switch to different sending profiles MAPI to SMTP or vice versa in mailbox config form. Email engine behaves differently depending on this. Also there are 3 files in AREmail dir that have effect on mail encoding EmailDaemon.properties MimeToJavaMapping.properties JavaToMimeMapping.properties take a look at them It took me some time to set up properly my environment. We have two languages and 3 possible encodings for one of them. Rick Cook-3 wrote: We've been converting our emails to go out in multi-part (HTML/text), and are using outgoing HTML templates to allow the contents of the body of an email to be sent in HTML. The email manual and online KB provided no help or reference to this at all. I tried applying subject text to the subject line manually, but it isn't translated into HTML by either the email server or Outlook. We are using Exchange as our mail server, Outlook 2007 as the client. Has anyone been able to send the Subject line of a notification in HTML format? If so, could you share with me how you did that? Re: Question: ITSM 7.0 - Incident - Email Inbound (UNCLASSIFIED)
Hi, Have you tried to do so in version 7? And a little question: You've said - this email address should be one to one with the type of ticket you are submmitting Do you mean that a separate(dedicated) mailbox is required? It doesnt matter what it's name(lets say the name is MyIncomingMBoxForIncident) but it matters when you create filter, because you have to specify condition(Mailbox Name = MyIncomingMBoxForIncident) and this filter should submit to a certain form? Regards, Max FRANK, GORDON CTR DISA JSSC wrote: Classification: UNCLASSIFIED Caveats: NONE You can also do this through a Filter. Follow the following rough steps 1. Create an Inbound email address in the AR System Email Mailbox Configuration form - this email address should be one to one with the type of ticket you are submmitting - Make as many as there are incidents you want to capture - Make sure you select PARSE on the Email Action (on the Advanced Configuration tab) 2. Create a Filter which fires on Submit on the AR System Email Messages form - The Run if will be Mailbox Name = (email address in step 1) - Action will be Push Fields, Create a New Request (1=1) to the HPD:HelpDesk form (this is Incident) - Include all unique fields that you want to be pushed to Incident - Subject should equal Summary - Body should equal Notes or Description (depending upon your version) - Customer should be the From: email address (you can use the system to look up person info off eamil address if you wish) - Default everything else (get all of the Required fields) - If you have automatic assignment setup, then it will assign the ticket based upon the Summary, CTI combination. (CTI is now called Operational Categorization and the fields are Tier 1+, Tier 2 and Tier 3). - The Filter will submit the ticket similar to how the Requester Console submits a ticket. 3. The original email message will only be there on the submit, but the Filter will take the data and create a rough incident. You may need to have constant monitoring because many fields will be defaulted. Most of the time a rough incident is all you need.
