As far as floating goes. I've seen estimates of 3 users to 1 license and 5:1.

Fixed is a different matter. With fixed, you need to determine who will need
to be able to log in whenever neccesary. People such as Helpdesk personnel or
VIP's or High use customers.

Hope that helps.

Mike,

There really isn't a magic formula. There are a number of dependences that
interrelate. Where are the folks located? That is are they in a different
time zone from most of your users? Will they be working different shifts than
most of your users? What is the job function (occasional use vs help desk)?

An example is if your main users are in the US and the staff being added is in
China you can use floating. Even if they are helpdesk staff. If you have
existing floating licenses you may not even need to add licenses as floating
may be available.

Misi has some nice tools to help with license allocation based on historic
usage.

If you haven't turned on Server Statistics, you should. The data will help you
understand license utilization through out the day.

I think it’s a good idea - afterall a target date as well as the SLA/OLA date
is one and the same thing - the anticipated customer expectation of resolution
or response..

You would however have to customize workflow to set it if you want to by
picking it up from the SLM data. I do not think there is an OTB function that
could do that for you..

We are on 7.6 of ITSM with a 7.5 backend application server. Out of the box
there is no way to do this at the support group level (that I am aware of). A
third party app like alarm point may help you with your particular need. There
are configurations you can make at the company/multi-tenancy (sp?) level. For
each company you can set whether support groups within each application are
round robin, load balanced, or capacity. Not sure if that has changed in later
versions ...

Mike,

The part of "http:///arsys" is determined by your DNS
entries and controlled locally. (NOTE: I wouldn't use "remedy" as the DNS
name, as it is too generic and may already be in commercial use. Come up with
something a little more specific to your organization and add that to your DNS
table to point to your mid-tier server.)

The "/arsys" part is redirected by ISAPI Redirector in the arsys.xml file,
which is located in your Tomcat installation folder, \conf\Catalina\localhost.

I think that's what you're looking for...?

Brian, thanks a lot for the info...so it sounds like the rule of estimating 150
concurrent connections per mid-tier is way off base...we are running a quad
core xeon proc with 24GB of RAM w/ Windows 2008 64BIT ... sounds like we are in
good shape our environment? We do have Mid-Tier and the AR System all on the

I would say that 500 concurrent users isn't to much for some servers to handle.
It all depends on your hardware and your code. If you are using out of the
box, what are those 500 users going to be doing? If it is custom code, how
cleanly is it written. Performance testing and improvement is a job all on
it's own. But I have had systems that have dealt with that level of load

Mike, per the latest BMC Reference Architecture document, the Midtier can
handle up to 150 peak concurrent users per CPU and 300 peak concurrent users
per 2 CPU virtual machine (VM). The performance ceiling is typically with the
instance of the webserver supporting the Midtier and the available memory of
the JVM instance it runs on. Previous recommendations specified not exceeding
approx. 400-500 concurrent users (if memory serves correctly) per web server
instance but I haven't seen the equivalent recommendation documented on the
latest ARS version. I've never personally attempted to run multiple webserver
instances on a single machine to overcome this ceiling and expand the capacity,
not sure how successful it would be.

Regardless, those recommendations assume a Miditer server separate from AR
Server so you'll need to take that into consideration when sizing.

For example, when I select “Manufacturer” – I see all the manufacturers now.
Is there something that I am supposed to do to get the data to display in the

For example, when I select:
Tier 1 = Network
Tier 2 = Router
Tier 3 = Access Router

Then I go to select the “Product Name” and no value displays.

a means to export the data into a report so Business Managers can make better
business decisions on how the operations of their organization should operate
or what appropriate directions they should take against specific
requests/actions submitted.

Business Analytics for BSM is a reporting tool that customers have that help to
enhance the capability of generating these types of reports. Business Analytics
allows a user to pull data from the ITSM, SRM and CMDB forms as well as any
other applications (with customization to the ITSM Universe). This session will

An organization's Configuration Items (CIs) are generally stored in various
systems and are to be incorporated into the CMDB. These CIs can be discovered
by discovery software, exported into comma separated value files, hard-copied
files, word documents and other avenues. It is up to the CMDB Manager and AR
System Developers to figure out what is the best means to import the data from

associated with utilizing RE is the activities if Identify and Merge. You must
identify the data that matches up the multiple data source records and then
merge the information into a single record based on a weight factor.

This session will cover the step by step requirements needed to set up the
different activities involved or made available within the RE processes.
