Re: [EXTERNAL] Re: Old Remedy 6.3 data

2019-08-15 Thread Ian.Trimnell
Hi Claire,

Same here. We had our Remedy system (7.5) on a Windows 2003 server which had
to go. The last supported part of AR System – a custom IT Ordering System –
was moved to a SCSM-based setup earlier this year so I was forced to shut it
all down. (We had been running since 1998 on Windows, moving to new servers as
required, and had stopped paying for maintenance renewal for about 5 years or
more so we couldn’t move to a newer version of AR System.) The SQL Server was
also 2003 so was removed as well. I still receive requests for records of the
old systems, all custom built in house, and I have migrated a number of
sections onto a MySQL server I control. The worst bit comes in building a
suitable interface – nothing seems to beat the AR System way of doing things!

There was nothing I could find which would fit the job, apart from converting
the database (had both ARX files and an SQL dump) and building any necessary
front-ends. The only one I’ve had to do fully was a user management system –
keeping track of any email addresses and user-ids allocated to staff.
Everything else is handled by database queries (phpMyAdmin helps as a GUI to
MySQL but sometimes using the mysql command line is eminently suitable!

Sorry, not a lot of help, but good luck in finding something which suits your
particular situation.

Yes, we moved to another solution. I enjoy learning the new stuff, but I miss
the comfort of what I knew like the back of my hand.

We have people come back for change records etc for legal things periodically
and have to keep it.

Thank you!
Claire

Carina,
If I'm not mistaken, they aren't using Remedy anymore (moved to another
solution)so Remedy for them is just in mothballs wanting/needing as little
time/effort as possible.

If it’s a custom app, why not import the defs with Designer Studio then DDM the
records off the old ARSystem with migrator? Just be sure your database/system
can handle that volume of data.

I did that for our legacy custom help desk app (built on 4.3 and upgraded thru
8.1) and it’s all living happily alongside my ITSM/ServiceDesk/Smartit/DWP apps
on my 19.02 box. I just did a basic “main menu” with “open form” active link
buttons to select the old app forms. I also created a filter restricting
record modifies/submits.

If it’s an old ITSM records, could you maybe still migrate/DDM the data and put
them into archive? I don’t know If they’d be viewable with whatever level of
ITSM you’re currently running.

Your option I think is to simply stop using Remedy at that point and just
access the data at the DB levelif you want to use the Remedy Application,
you need the Remedy application though.

Hey Old Friends!

We have an old Remedy server that is strictly an archive. We have people ask
for ticket info a few times a year or so. We have been told that we have to
upgrade the server. Since the old server is 32bit and the new one is 64bit,
they are telling me I have to reinstall the apps that are on the server.

Does anyone have a front end for an old Remedy system that does not entail
reinstalling the apps?

Re: EXTERNAL: Re: Off Topic - Before the List is Gone! NOTE: Not Gone, MOVED

2016-09-27 Thread Ian.Trimnell
Well, I think it is a case of “So long, and thanks for all the fish”. I just
attempted to join the group in Communities and got the following message:

The area of BMC Communities is visible to registered logged in users. If you
are logged in when you receive this message then you might not have sufficient
access privileges to view requested page.

I don’t know whether this is linked to the fact that we are no longer customers
of BMC – we moved to MS System Centre Service Manager a couple of years ago,
but still use AR System in a non-maintained mode for some mission critical
functions (don’t ask!). Perhaps my BMC account is in a confused state. I am
lurking here as I am still responsible for the current implementation (having
built it from scratch over the past 17 years) and you never know when problems
might arise.

Despite having moved to SCSM there are number of people who still pine for our
Remedy solution, but I think that management have burnt their bridges and have
taken the MS dollar. The main complaints of SCSM are that it is slow, not
really a ticketing solution like Remedy can be and it can’t handle child forms
(the main reason why the system I maintain hasn’t migrated).

So, if I can’t get into the Communities group for ARSlist then I will say
goodbye, and thanks for all the help I have received for all of you over the
past years. I have always enjoyed working with AR System, mainly because you
can get to do anything you want (within reason!).

Cheers!

Hi Axton,

Long time since I saw you. Both online and face2face. Are you still doing
Remedy stuff?

But hopefully the list will continue to live on BMC communitites!

That was “more or less” my understanding too – thank goodness a new account
need not be created every time you are working on a different or a newer
support contract..

Communities auto associates your communities account with the SSO that is used
at the rest of BMC, which includes your BMC Support account (if you have
one)...if you don't have one, then it just creates an accountthere is no
need to have it tied to anything support related. If you decide to have it
associated with your support account (through your work email), then, when you
change jobs, it's necessary to have the communities account associated with a
new 'customer' account...but, if your communities profile is associated with a
personal address instead of work address, there is no need for all of that
effort.

To the best of my knowledge a developer account is not tied to a support
contract so it remains active even as you switch customers so from one contract
to another – correct?

Dan,

I just want to add my thanks.

I’ve been developing Remedy AR System schemas and workflow since 1994 and the
ARSList has always been my security blanket.

There was

Remedy on Demand

2012-01-30 Thread Ian.Trimnell
Dear Listers,

After almost 15 years of service our custom built AR System applications are
bing replaced by Remedy on Demand. Up until recently I have not been allowed
to be involved as they were hoping it would all run out of the box. However,
they now need some work doing to get the RoD system to talk to our other
systems (Sophos anti-virus emails from PCs and interaction with our third-party
maintainers, to name but two).

Now; for the last week we having been talking to BMC to work out how I should
get Developer Studio access to our development RoD system. I have been given
VPN access to what I believe is the relevant BMC network. I have even been told
to obtain a copy of the Cisco VPN client (which I think is now no longer easily
downloadable from Cisco) from the University of Ghent in Belgium (which didn't
really sound right - doesn't BMC have proper routes for distributing software).
I also been told the server address and port number, which I presume is so that
Dev Studio can access the server. The trouble is that with all this in place I
can't get Dev Studio to talk to our RoD server.

What I'm wondering is whether any one on this list has attempted this sort of
thing before. If so how did you gain access? BMC RoD support doesn't seem to
be able to come up with an answer - at least not yet.

Thanks in advance,

Ian
