Hi,

I would like to know the answer for Abydos Analyser as well as it would appear
that only Abydos Designer has been taken on board and promoted by BMC.

As for a similar tool, you could look at:

My bad :)did BMC not buy the entire company? Is BMC not offering up the
entire 'suite' of tools that Abydos offered?

I'm being told by BMC development resources that Resources.zip
is loaded with the ITSM applications and not part of the AR System
server itself. So if you load only AR System, you will not have this
file.

From the white paper:

The Resource library files contain resource files for localized
labels that you use for new labels to add to a report. The BIRT library
files contain the BIRT library (for example, stylesheets) and
out-of-the-box templates that you can use as you modify out-of-the-box
reports or when you create new BIRT reports.

Those "localized labels" are the labels used in the ITSM OOTB
reports. Both Resources.zip and BIRT_Library.zip are optional and not
mandatory to create a new Web report. These are required if a user
wants to edit the OOTB ITSM report since they refer to these resources.

Problems accessing an Audit Form in the Admin Tool

2011-04-20 Thread MCCAVITT Nyall
Hi,

Whilst waiting for Support to get back to me I was wondering if anyone had come
across a situation like this before.

Running ARS V7.1 on Solaris to remote Oracle 10 database, I get the following
error message when trying to access an Audit Form via the Admin Tool:

RPC call failed : RPC: Can't decode result (ARERR 91).

If I access the same form via the User Tool, then there is no issue. I can see
all the data. If I access the data via an SQL tool such as Toad then again, I
can see the data and the definitions with no problem. It is only via the Admin
Tool that I cannot access the form.

If I try to disable the Audit Form from the associated form the I get the
following error message and I am unable to save the change:

The Archive or Audit form is invalid. Archive or Audit form should be of proper
type, proper permissions as the source form.
Please check the manual for requirements for a valid Archive or Audit form.
(ARERR 8999).

Sounds to me as if a definition has been corrupted somewhere. As the form is
accessible via the User Tool and the data seems to be intact I am hoping that
this problem can be easily rectified.

I have exported the data so I suppose one option would be to delete the Audit
form, recreate it and then import the data?

Thanks.

Re: Integration between Remedy and IBM Rational Doors

2010-11-11 Thread MCCAVITT Nyall
Hi Phil,

As we are just at the finding out stage then I’m not sure of all of the
requirements for synchronisation yet but I would guess that they would not
involve export/import on a scheduled basis. As we are also not using ITSM but
custom applications then I am not yet clear as to whether we can legally use
AIE.

My hunch is that we will have to go down the API route.

Thanks for the input.

Nyall:

I’ve never heard of a direct integration, but if Doors stores its data in a SQL
schema, then you could build a bi-directional sync using AIE. AIE also works
with XML and CSV files, so if Doors can export/import either of these on a
scheduled basis, then you could build an integration that way, too.

There are also other Remedy-based solutions such as View forms plus
filter/escalation processing that could possibly be built.

And then AR System supports C & Java APIs also, so you could just write an API
program to support the integration. Hopefully Doors’ API is one of those two.
Come to think of it, there’s Perl and Python compatible APIs, too.

Any pointers would be helpful.

The alias is encoded in the field_dispprop record entry for the view – in
either the propShort or propLong column depending on the size if the display
properties data. Unfortunately it’s not stored in its own field. Find the
schemaid (X) and vuiid (Y) for the view you’re interested in and then

SQL> select propshort, proplong from field_dispprop where schemaid=X and
vuiid=Y and fielded=0

And you should see something like this;

12\20\4\18\Default Admin
View\264\6\0\60019\4\21\ViewWebAlias536870912\201\2\127012\202\2\36600\206\4\17\THIS

I think it is kept in C:\Documents and Settings\\application data\ar system\home - where the application data

correct - if you upgraded to a newer version of Microsoft Office, you
need to make sure that path exists as listed in the dde.ini file.

Nyall,

I think it is kept in C:\Documents and Settings\\application data\ar system\home - where the application data
directory may be hidden. You also need to make sure that the paths are
correct - if you upgraded to a newer version of Microsoft Office, you
need to make sure that path exists as listed in the dde.ini file.

Don't you have to create the file? The file will not be there by default after
installing the tool. And its been a while since I used DDE but if I recall
right, if you place it in the AR installation directory, the tool will
recognize it. If you want to keep it anywhere else, then you need to configure
that path in the ar.ini file.

Location of DDE.INI file

2009-12-09 Thread MCCAVITT Nyall
Hi,

Is DDE still usable on XP? Could someone please indicate how to locate
the correct location to place a dde.ini file for AR User Tool V7.5?
Whatever location I place the file in it always returns the same error
message in that the format of the dde.ini file must be either CSV or
TAB. No matter what value I put in the dde.ini file I always get the
same error message. I know that DDE should not be used as it is old
technology but it was always relatively quick and easy.

Thanks.

Question on Flashboard Variable Customisations

2009-09-10 Thread MCCAVITT Nyall
Hi,

I am using Flashboards on ARS V7.5 and I have a requirement to customise
the display of the flashboard.

I have a Flashboard Variable that selects all the currently open Help
Desk tickets for groups that have the text CS in their group name. A
count operation is done and the results is Grouped By the following
criteria:

Primary = "Assigned to Group+"
Secondary  = "Status"

This is then set to display in a Stacked Bar format so that for each
group the number of tickets in each status is stacked one on top of the
other and each status is a different colour. Each colour is
automatically assigned by the system.

This works fine except that the requirement is that each status colour
should be a specified colour.

Checking the documentation there would appear to be two flashboard
display parameters that may be used to customise the display. These are
gbcolors and vargbcolors. However, I cannot seem to get the effect that
my client wants.

Does anyone have an idea/example of how to achieve this level of
customisation?

Thanks.

Re: Need to make an error message more friendly.

2009-05-27 Thread MCCAVITT Nyall
Hi Doug,

Thanks for your suggestions.

Option 1, although quick, would not help as it is possible that other
values will be removed from the menu. As the data in the menu is
controlled by other parties then it is not really sensible or feasible
to go down this route.

Option 2 is what I am currently working on and may be the way for me to
go.

Option 3 definitely sounds the best way to go ut as you say but may take
longer and will require a change from Active Link to a filter. I was
looking into using an error-handling filter on submission to the second
form but as the push field action is form an Active Link on the first
form then this didn't work. I will look into using the Service action
and error handling filter as a more long term solution to this issue.

Thanks again for your helpful comments.

Nyall.

ps I would like to thank you for your ITSM 7.5 presentation earlier this
year in Paris. It was very informative.

Nyall,

The key here is that you are trying to trap a specific instance where
this generic error message can come
up and provide a message that you control to give better indication
about this specific situation.

The various suggestions about changing menu styles and such help control
what can be entered, but do
not allow you to specifically address the issue.

Also, there seems to be a constraint about adding anything or doing any
checking on the remote form.
So, all the options here are adding things to the source form only.

The only way to accomplish what you want with a special error message
for the specific case you have is
to do your own validation or trapping of the problem and displaying your
own message.

You do not have to change the Menu type.. just the field property of the
field that the menu is attached to.

You will find this option in the first default tab of the field property
in the mid upper right corner of the field property dialog..

see an easy way of making the message more friendly. Any suggestions

The simplified situation is this:
One one form, called A1, for this example, I have a field called 'Menu'
which has a menu attached to it. The values in this menu are 2008A,
2008B, 2008C and 2008D. There is a button on this field which when

value 2008A is missing from the menu on the form A2.
When an entry is being created on form A1 with a value of 2008A in the
'Menu' field and then the button is clicked on the user receives the
following error message:
ARERR [306] Value does not fall within the limits specified for
the field : (Pattern - $MENU$) : 536870913
The error message itself is clear enough as to why the error has
occurred but the problem is that is uses the Database ID to identify the
field where the problem is. This is OK for an Administrator but the user
would like to have the name of the field i.e. the database label value.
Personally I would like to have the database label value, the form name
and the data value that has caused this error.
Thanks in advance.

This is a multi-part message in MIME format.
Hi Brian,

Yes I have to have pattern matching on the second form as the second form can
have entries created independently of the first form. For the same reason the
pattern matching has to be on as this is a business requirement.

In the real situation the same menu is used for both forms but this menu is
based on a search of another form. The specific value of 2008A has been marked
as inactive but some entries in the first form still have the 2008A value and
only now are the entries in the second form being are being created from the
first form. Ideally the value of 2008A should be made active again but
currently this is not an option.

Thanks for your comments on doing some more error checking before creation in
the second form.

Subject: Re: Need to make an error message more friendly.

Hi Nyall,

Assuming you are pushing the value of the field Menu on form A1 to the field
Menu on form A2.

First of all ask yourself is it necessary to have a pattern match of $MENU$
on the menu field on form A2.

If it is, then ask yourself why the values for Menu in form A1 don't match
those in form A2. If there is a valid reason that 2008A can appear in form
A1 but not in A2, then what do you want to happen? Logically you don't want
an entry to be created in form A2.

So, if you don't want an entry created in form A2 when the Menu value in
form A1 is 2008A, you need to create some workflow that checks if the value
in form A1 is also valid for form A2. If the check confirms it is valid, do
the push, if it isn't don't do the push. If you get the workflow correct the
user will not be aware that this decision action is happening and they will
never get this obscure message again.

If however you do want the entry to be created then you need to either
replace, or remove, the menu value in form A1 prior to the push to form A2.
The same workflow as above to check if it is valid but rather than not doing
the push, do it with the 2008A replaced with a valid value or remove it.
This will be decided by whether the field menu in form A2 is a required
field or not.
