Re: Import ARERROR 405 ARS 5.1.2 on Display Only forms... (part 2)

2006-12-15 Thread Rick Phillips
Jason,

I have a .def file from a known good 5.1.2/HD 5.5 server (heavily
customized), and I need to Migrate that file to a new destination
server. The two servers should be mirror images (from the OS up) with
the exception of form data.

The migration was successful with the exception of the forms listed
earlier (plus a few DO forms; Remedy Requester-New Request, etc.), some
menus (no suprise here since forms failed), and a handful of filters.

My attempt to import those forms individually via the admin tool also
failed, hence the posting here (parts 1 and 2) with the attendant
errors. Clean up is not an option, and new views were not added (as
suggested by Jennifer-thanks).

I'm working on getting a second computer so I can see both systems
concurrently (the production system is not available to me). I know
that I can install multiple AR servers, but can't do at this point in
the project.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Re: Import ARERROR 405 ARS 5.1.2 on Display Only forms... (part 2)

2006-12-14 Thread Rick Phillips
Jennifer,

Thanks.

First, I'm importing an entire HD 5.5 app that I inherited, so I have
little to no history on changes that were made.

Second, it's heavily customized, so anything could have happened on the
way to its current state.

Third, most of the app was imported successfully; most of the errors
were with forms/menus.

I could restore the 'Status' fields on the original server, perform the
import, then change the 'Status' fields back on the destination server
so that they work with workflow, but I'm not sure how to make a
'generic' copy.

In any event, I'm trying to avoid recreating:
CHG:Change
CHG:Task
HPD:Solutions
SHR:ApplicationGroups
SHR:Association
SHR:Bulletin
SHR:Categorization
SHR:ConsolidatedList
SHR:Contact
SHR:Location
SHR:People
SHR:PersonalPreferences
SHR:Survey
SHR:Template
SHRCFG:ConfigTmpIndex
SLA:Measurement
SLA:Rule Event Occurrence

(I'm sitting here contemplating just how painful that would be!!)

Anyway,

Thanks again.

Import ARERROR 405 ARS 5.1.2 on Display Only forms... (part 2)

2006-12-14 Thread Rick Phillips
I am attempting to import over a dozen heavily modified HD 5.5 forms
from a .def file onto another 5.1.2/HD 5.5 server, overwriting a clean
HD 5.5 install.

Rec'ing the same ARERROR 405:

A core definition from the definition file is incorrect: (1) : :
(ARERR 405)
A core definition from the definition file is incorrect: (7) : :
(ARERR 405)
A core definition from the definition file is incorrect: (7) : :
(ARERR 405)

on over a dozen core HD forms (SHR:Categorization,
SHR:ConsolidatedList, etc.)

Any ideas why the errors? Why an error twice on 'status' (7)?

Any help appreciated,

Rick

Import ARERROR 405 ARS 5.1.2 on Display Only forms...

2006-12-13 Thread Rick Phillips
Hello all,

I'm importing a heavily customized version of the Remedy Management
form (HD 5.5) from a def file to a ARS 5.1.2 server, and rec'ing
ARERROR 405.

A quick search of the ARSList archives shows a posting entitled Import
Problems that discusses core fields being successfully added to DO
forms in a 5.x environ, but then failing an import (or Migration).

I've checked the field Id's in the def file, and found no field Id's
less than 24005 (so I assume no core fields).

The three errors rec'd are:
A core definition from the definition file is incorrect: (1) : :
(ARERR 405)
A core definition from the definition file is incorrect: (7) : :
(ARERR 405)
A core definition from the definition file is incorrect: (7) : :
(ARERR 405)

Are the numbers in ()'s field Id's?

Any help greatly appreciated,

Thanks,

Rick

Re: BMCWorld happenings

2006-09-11 Thread Rick Phillips
Rick and All,

David Easter, a BMC product manager, hosted a luncheon on Thursday of
BUW. The goal was to generate feedback about the enhancement process
(he is endeavoring to fix alot of broken processes, and made no excuses
for past problems). However, another hot topic was how to enhance the
current toolset (Admin tool, RDP, etc. Well, ok, so I brought this up
in conversation with him later!)

I mentioned to him how well Mastersuite works, how poorly RDP *works?*,
and mentioned a few other tools that are really handy (Panacea Workflow
studio, AR Utilities, etc). He was very receptive and encouraged
everyone to submit enhancement requests for RDP.

I would encourage any interested parties to submit enhancement requests
for tasks that you would like future tools to accomplish. Maybe things
like finding a string in enabled active links only, and replacing said
string with another string ($GROUPS$ LIKE "abc" becomes $GROUPS$ LIKE
"123"). Or adding and removing columns to the Admin tool. Or
including something like ARCHGID in a common client tool (Admin tool,
RDP, etc). The list is endless.

David is very easy going, and listens well, so I'd strike while the
irons hot.

hth,

Rick

Michelle,

Thanks, and yes there are other criteria. I was just trying to confirm
my understanding of Status-History fields. You know everything is
moving along well; then smack, something you thought should have
worked, didn't. I thought the status-history.*.TIME values would be
stored as seconds just like $TIMESTAMP$, and would thus be available
for calculation. But if that value is in a different table (H?),
then...
