Dear Listers,

We have this an installation: ARS 8.1.2 and ITSM 8.1.2, MS SQL Server 2012

When I look into the form DLD:SYS:DataWizardProductStatus I can see all the
forms that are processed by the DataWizard when e.g. renaming a Company Name.

I was wondering what specific forms are behind the entries
- Foundation forms
- CMDB forms
- Asset forms
- Change forms
- Help Desk forms
- Problem forms
- Service Request Configuration forms
- Service Request Management forms
- etc.

Does anybody knows about a documentation for these forms?

Thanks!

Data Wizard Tool / Sites

2016-02-19 Thread lars . j . pettersson
Hi, it seems that we need to rename some sites in our ITSM system, 7.6.

Have you used the Data Wizard Tool in this situation, if so, have you seen any
issues, or are all forms handled correctly?

The alternative, to do it manually is a huge task.

Hope for some feedback :)

Re: Row level access in ITSM

2015-10-23 Thread lars . j . pettersson
Yes, people belonging to a special team should be restricted from public access
to entries. Not only for Incidents, I guess also for CI's...Problems, Changes...

They need access to the different companies we have, so therefore the company
restriction does not work.

Maybe more easy to take down the sun than configure this...:)

Hi,

When we discussed this earlier I understood that the group you want to give
limited access is an external Vendor.

Field 60900 is called Vendor Assignee Group, which seems to imply that it is
intended for this.

What is also important is that 112 is not set to Public, as this would prevent
field 60900 to have any affect for those tickets.

Note that I have very limited knowledge about ITSM, and what can be configured.
I have just looked at the permissions on field id 1 and a little on the
workflow attached to field 112 and 60900. To me it seems that someone intended
the OOB functionality to work exactly as you desired, but I do not know if it
all got implemented...

Row level access in ITSM

2015-10-22 Thread lars . j . pettersson
Hi, we have an ARS system built ourselves, where we have implemented Row Level
Access by changing permission for field 1 and using dynamic groups.
This makes it possible to only allow access for users to entries that they are
allowed to see.

In our ITSM system, all Incidents for example can be accessed by all users. We
have no possibility to use company restrictions.

I wonder if anyone has been able to implement row level access in ITSM as
described? If so, how did you solve it?

Best regards, Lars, Vattenfall Sweden.

Join forms in ITSM

2015-05-22 Thread lars . j . pettersson
Hi, I have created some outer join forms in an 'add-on module' besides ITSM.

I have used AST:BusinessService and AST:AssetPeople
And AST:BusinessService and FIN:CostAssociationJoin

The meaning is to make a report for Business Services and Relations, and
Business Services with/without costs.

Seems to works fine, but would it have been more correct if I had used
BMC.CORE:BMC_BaseElement instead of AST:BusinessService?

The number of entries returned when searching is the same if I use DataSetID
BMC.ASSET in BMC.CORE:BMC_BaseElement

Hi, we have changed from http to a secure link, https (redirecting) for our

An AL opening a form in new mode, now opens it in search mode...some links of
the same type works, as they have worked for years before the change.
Some Attachments can no longer be opened or seen in a view field.
Double click on a row in a table field opens the form with empty fields...

I have flushed the MidTier cache, also the local pc cache ans restarted the
windows servers, tried with IE and FireFox
I have also changed the default web path to https in ar.cfg

I think you can use the people management console to update people records with

Create some sort of a staging form for adding new users and create workflow
there to create entries required in the CTM:People Permissions Group.

The OTB filters on that form will take care of the rest.

For something like support group, you can go to the ctm:support group form and
click Add on People tab. If you do a search that returns multiple people, I
think you can ctrl+click multiple and add that way.

Ar System Message Catalog

2013-01-08 Thread lars . j . pettersson
Hi list, The mentioned form 'Ar System Message Catalog' contains 'Message
Identifier' (Al name/Filter name) and 'Msg Num'.

Suppose that Message Identifier is 'Check Name' and Msg Num 60229

I set locale to 'de' and enter a text in German. The corresponding Filter has
message No 60229 with an english text.

Test: Works.

Then, I rename this filter In Dev Studio but keep the Message Number, will it
still work, the text will be in German?

I tried to change the name of Message Identifier in 'Ar System Message
Catalog', but when I did this, I got the text in English.

Conclusion: If serverobjects are renamed the localization will be lost for that
serverobject?

Best regards, Lars

Change a Support Group Structure, ITSM

2012-04-11 Thread lars . j . pettersson
Hi, suppose that we have this entry in form Support Group

Support Company: xxx
Support Organization: yyy
Support Group Name: zzz

There are Team Members, Templates, Problems, Incidents, Changes, Auto-routing
and more.

Now, Support Group Name zzz has to be moved to Support Organization 'aaa'.

How do you perform this action?

I have got the information that a new Group entry has to be created, all team
members manually moved, all templates handled manually, and all other forms too
where xxx/yyy/zzz exist. 'The Data Wizard are not working on Unix and shall not
be used' have I heard. To make this operation manually takes a lot of time,
there must be a better way?

Thanks,

You have to manually change the long group name in the Group form. This is
documented. What isn't documented is if you don't then your SLTs may not find

Lars,
It will change the support group name, not the ID, on many of the ITSM forms
and update functional roles for the people in that group. However, it does not
update any templates that are using that group. So, if have any change, work
order, or Incident templates where use that support group, make sure to change
the ownership first to another group or it could corrupt the templates. That
has happened to me with infrastructure change templates. Make sure to check
the group notification option on the support group after you've renamed it. It
will set it to no and that group will not get messages when a group
notification event fires.

Asset Invoicing

2012-02-29 Thread lars . j . pettersson
Hi, has anyone been able to create an invoicing module of assets in the
ITSM-system (7.6) with very few changes within the itsm-code. Something besides
itsm handling the invoicing of assets. Assets are supposed to be connected to a
paying unit, have a price which can easily modified, logic for initial cost and
after that a monthly cost, file has to be created for R3, and excelfiles has to
be created as specifications to the different customers. Each asset has to be
connected to a project number, and a lot of other economy attributes, like
order number.

We have run this for many years in our home built system, but now it has to be
done in itsm.

Any feedback will be appreciated.

SV: Asset Invoicing

2012-02-29 Thread lars . j . pettersson
We have different prices for different customers, today we have an ars form
with price-information/asset, and when an asset is created and marked yes for
invoicing, we check who the customer is, and get the right price set, this also
have to work when using the import tool, we also need to connect an asset to
different attributes, like a special user, or just connect to an organisation.
During the invoicing routine we have some forms locked for editing, so that the
files to R3 will match the specifications. We need to be able to change a
price, and that should update all assets related. Before invoicing starts we
need to be able to find errors, like mismatch between projectnumber/asset and
related customer e t c and correct that. There need to be functions to merge
two customers into one, change customer numbers and so on. And much more. All
this is working today in our home built system. I look forward to find out how
itsm can handle this.

For the purchasing piece you probably only need the COTAR as an approver.
Adding/modifying a project should fall under the Change Management process,
with the purchasing portion being a task(s) under the CR. The CR would then
have the multiple approvals if needed.

The OOB Purchasing module is not very robust. There is only one approval
allowed so chain approvals are out of the question. If you have a current
homegrown process then you need to really go through the OOB purchase process
to see where all the gaps are. I'll bet that you are going to have to customize
like crazy to get it to work the way your business partners need it.

Lars,

The Asset Management piece has a purchasing and receiving piece that might
solve the bulk of your requirements. You may also be able to setup the
projects as CIs and relate all the items purchased to the project CI. Add your
additional attributes that you need to the project CI. If there are a lot of
things outside the OOB functionality that you need you can always setup a
backend staging form to setup your invoicing, but I think with little effort
you can probably use the straight OOB functionality to handle most of what
you're looking for. You can setup the paying units as cost centers and you
have the ability to relate multiple cost centers. The only part that may
require some customization is your pricing model for initial cost versus
monthly costs, but it doesn't sound like this would be major.

When installing ars admin tool i get the messages 'String Title Captionbar was
not found in the string table'. / 'VerFindFileverion failed'
I have tried two different versions of admin.exe, 701 .p005 and 701 p10.
I have also tried on two different pc's.

I only get this message then logged in with a local admin account (I need that
to be able to install).
If i use my ordinary account this message does not appear, but the installation
fails due to insufficient permissions.

I have been able to install the program successfully using the same mediafile
earlier.

Anyone seen this, or have some suggestions what can be wrong?

Conflict with some MS security parches?

I have searched the BMC KB but have not been able to get any matches.

Platform: XP SP 2

Thanks in advance, L ars

Q: 0.5 in CR

2008-01-08 Thread lars . j . pettersson
Hi, after we upgraded server and clients to 7.0.1 p 004 (Oracle 10) we have
problems with a Crystalreport which has been working for years. Created in
earlier version of CR.

Suppose that we have 100 items each with a price 0.51

Before:

100 * 0.51 = 51

Now:

The report shows a quantity of 51, price each 1

If I change to 2 items with price 100:

2*100 = 200, right

If I change to 100 items with a price each 0.50 I get division by zero ...
So 0.50 and below are now set to 0 ...

Anyone seen something similar?

Thanks,

Q: Buildnumber

2007-10-10 Thread lars . j . pettersson
Hi, where can I see build number? I got this answer from BMC: (Related to a
problem we have seen and reported).

'There was some problem with ARGetEntry in 7.0.1 patch 4, after which it was
rectified and a new build was released. I have tested this on ARS Server Patch
4 build 200708262106 and found that it is behaving similar to 6.3, which is
correct'.

***

It means that patch 4 can exist in two different versions ...why replace a
patch and give it the same patch number confusing ...

I really thought that was going to do the trick. After deleting 472 .arf files

Maybe you have a corrupted WUT cache file. Try deleting the .arf and .arv WUT

I started receiving this error message when I deleted this field and all

Access question

Hi list, suppose permissions are set so that a user can't access a ticket when
searching directly in a form. No access to field 1.

I have a joinform, users are able to see fields from this 'forbidden entry' in
this join, unexpected, can't be as designed?

Maybe I was unclear:

1. The user must have a fixed licence.
2. They must belong to group Sub Administrator in the User Form
3. They must belong to that group which is defined on page 'Subadministrative
Permissions' in Admin Tool.

When the log in to admin tool, they will be able to see those forms, for which
they are subadmins, no other forms will be shown.

Open the form i RA and check all unique indexes, you have at least two records
in the database with the same values in the fields included in the index. An
easy way to find those entries are to export the fields to excel and sort the
columns, add a formula checking if row x is similar to row x-1, after you have
changed those entries to unique combinations, you will be able to add a new
unique index.

Re: Archive Form Invalid

2007-06-07 Thread lars . j . pettersson
The advantage of this method is that you have full control over fields in the
backup form, maybe you only need 20% of the fields compared with the source
form, you will be able to create/delete fields in the source form without any
aut change in the archiveform. We have a check that the post-is exists in the
backupform before the sourcerequest is deleted. This has been running for years
without any problems.

We've also moved away from the out-of-box archiving. Instead, what we're doing
now is we've made a copy of the form, called it form-name_BACKUP, then run an
escalation that does a push-fields to the Backup form, then a run process to do
an Application-Delete-Entry on the original form.

** I came across this many times. It means there is a field somewhere on your
original form that is not on the archive form. Or the fields have the same id
but are of a different type. One time I was able to resolve this by using ar
utilities to create .csv files of all the fields on both forms, then comparing
the two line by line till I found where they were out of sync. Sometimes the
field you create on the orginal form does not copy to the archive because the
'Views' are out of sync. If you have a .def of the form before the change, you
should import that. It would probably be the easiest solution. Or, try
reversing the change you made. Either case, the out-of-box archiving sucks.
That's why we are getting away from it.

2007-01-02 Thread lars . j . pettersson
Shawn, why not take a look at rrrLog from misi, at www.rrr.se

rrrLog: Find the performance bottle necks in your system.
What form use most system resources?
Find slow API/SQL-calls, and browse the filters that have been triggered.

You will be able to sort by processing time and identify which sql command a
used made, and who this user was.

In the bottom are the logfiles, api, sql, filter, esc, but presented is a
readable format.

We tested the product, and found slow 'like searches', both in ars code and
triggered by users.

Subject: Performance Issues caused by User Queries - Remedy 6.3/Oracle
10.0.2

Greetings List!!

We have an issue in which some users (we know not who) are running queries
which are affecting the performance of our Remedy system, causing
significant delays, issues, and even complete system lock-ups for all our Users.

We have three goals that we would like to accomplish:
1) Identify the user(s) and what they are doing
2) Prevent future performance degradation of this nature
3) Stop offending queries in progress should prevention be not possible to
bypassed in some manner, using a method other than rebooting our database
(as this brings all our users down, which is what we are trying to remedy)

We are interested in any possible solutions or paths to accomplish one or
more of these goals. We spoke with our Remedy Partner that provides our
support, but unfortunately, their best resolution was using User/API/SQL
Logging Remedy-side.

Unfortunately, for this to be successful, we would need to know before the
offending query is run, or have it always running (something our SA is
against due to system resource concerns)

Our SA provided me the following information concerning our configuration,
which may be helpful (I apologize that I don't know what it all means):

Distributed Server
Remedy 6.3.0 patch 018
Oracle 10.0.2
Monolithic

We look forward to and appreciate any assistance available.

Thanks

Hi Jase,

We have tried to use the built in archiving on numerous occasions and it let us
down badly. From the archive form not being accessible to adding of fields etc.
These can lead to the loss of data.

What we did was use a similar approach as Remedy but build our own. We took the
original form and copied it, removed all the unnecessary fields like page
fields, table fields and buttons, changed the permissions to public on all the
fields that remained. Form permissions are reserved for admins or a specific
group. We then have 2 fields that are used to control the copy of the data
(which could be done by either push or DSO, depending on what fits our needs).
These same fields are applied to the archive form. The one field is used as a
trigger which is stepped through stages. An escalation selects the records and
marks this field ready for archive. This triggers a copy to the archive form.
From the archive form an escalation checks the staging field and sets the
original form as copied and an escalation takes care of the delete from the
original form.

I forgot, we had to create another field to house the original ID (same as
Remedy).

Trust this gives you an idea.

Crystal reports

2006-10-16 Thread lars . j . pettersson
We have a very strange problem with CR, some user get 'Field name not known'
or 'error in formula'. The workaround to solve this, for a while are two
methods I've seen can fix this. Delete contents in the home folder (keep
dde.ini), or delete the user preference request. Some users have no problems
at all. And what is most strange, users having this problem can have it on
Monday, not next day, very inconsistent. I can't see the logic. We never had
this problem before 6.3. All users have ODBC YES in the pref form.

 Anyone else seen this?

Hi, is there a way to suppress the message, No matching requests (or no

in an al with macroparameters, I want to replace it with my own message if
lastcount = 0, else close the dialogform from where the macro is activated.

In open window action I know suppress empty list is available, but I can't use
this as I have to use report to application with the use of dde.ini in the

  Nyall and Raido:
I'm willing to state that the affected action has a very large
diary or attachment associated with it. If you attempt to export the
record from your database, Oracle can handle the data collection, but Remedy
cannot. Thus, you see a large increase in memory usage and then the
crash. If you care to explore, you can look at the CLOB storage for that
record and find the record is very large. Don't know how this happens as
the limit for a diary field under Oracle is 1MB of text.
If you need help, I think that I can provide a little bit of
  it.

I have a similar situation with my system:
ARS Server V6.00.01 patch 1497 Solaris
  5.9 Oracle 9.2.0.7.0
Each access to the affected ticket causes 100MB of ram to be
used by the arserverd process. When a certain amount of ram has been used
  arserverd crashes and armonitor restarts.
SQL trace logs don't show anything but api logging does show
an error. In many cases it is only the values of the Query List that are
returned. No values for any other fields are displayed. Initially this was
showing up as an RPC error/timeout.
I have a ticket open with Remedy Support for 2 weeks now but
nothing that we have tried has traced the problem. We have even exported the
production database and re-imported it into a different Oracle server and
pointed our development Remedy Server at this copied database. The problem is
apparent on both the production and development servers and it is reproducible
  100% of the time.
If anyone has any ideas I would be grateful.

HP Openview/ARS

2006-09-13 Thread lars . j . pettersson
Hello, I would like to get some comments upon this issue: Suppose the
Management make a decision because 'ARS is expensive' - replace the ars system
with HP Openview. My thougts are:

Is there an Admin tool for HP Openview which can be compared with ars, make
changes fast, safe and even in production?

How will the migration be done and what will it cost ... We can't loose all
reqeusts. A lot of data must to be transfered to the new system in a new
datastructure.

Suppose 700 active users, If every user needs 8 h time to learn a new system,
this means 5600 h, and 8 h is at a low estimate I think.

Is ars expensive? Maybe licenses, but is development expensive? Some skilled
ars devlelopers can implement a lot with only 100 hrs of work. The same with
Openview? Our system has always been changing rapidly, new conditions every
year, not a problem, just make a new release of the application with max 15 hrs
of migration. Easy to make a new release of an Openview application with new
code?

I guess that another platform maybe is less expensive in one way, but add all
costs for changing, I'm not sure it in the end will save money for the company.

And, I don't even know how to compare ars with HP Openview, I've never seen the
application.

And, add hrs to implement all processes/routines into another system.

Why Open view? Because it's used in another country with is going to be
integrated in our company. (They use an home-built ars system too for some
modules)

Maybe Integration is the best solution, we run ars and they run openview, just
build an IF between those two systems intead of replacing one?

** Buddy,
The macros are on YOUR harddrive. The only way others
could get to them would be for your computer to be shared and the network
path to that location be put in Tools / Options in the path field on the
other computers. Generally people choose a network location
for commonly used macros or they simply distribute them (via email) to
others that may use them and they store them in the path you have listed
below on their own computer. That's the default path provided during
the client install and you can change it and/or add an additional path to
it. Susan

Hi! I don't agree that studying Oracle is the right for You, I have been an ars
developer since 1997, and never noticed that I miss knowledge about Oracle, C
and VB ...well, yes good to have knowledge, but it's not releted to the title
'Remedy Administrator'.

Question: What are the expectations upon You? Are you responible for an ars
system in production? just to maintain this, have it up and running, or many
change requests related to the ars code which must be implemented in a few
months?

Do You have any DBA at your company? He/she takes care of Oracle i think.

Start to learn the usertool, how it works, that's the basic before you login to
the admin tool and make any changes.
If You don't have any knowledege about macros, how to perform a search on ASB,
it will be diffucult to analyze the code.
And, you must also have 100% knowledge about the application, how it works,
knowledge about Groups and policys for permissions in the application.

Later, continue with Oracle and C.

Hi David,

I removed all fields from the set field and added them one by one..
The one causing the problem is the field SelectionCriteria which I use
later on as external qualification for the open window. The strange
thing is that it stopps not only the open-win AL firing next, it
blocks all open-win AL's running behind that form (even though it
doesn't run there)...

I tried the following combinations for SelectionCriteria:
( $NumericCaseID$ = 'NumericCaseID') // as used in another AL and
working fine there
  $NumericCaseID$ = 'NumericCaseID'
  $NumericCaseID$ = 1
  'NumericCaseID' = 1
  1 = 1
  1 = 2

None of them worked: the AL processing stops as described without any
error message.

Please also note that if I change the qualification to something
invalid (i.e. $NumericCaseID$ = 'XXNumericCaseID' or
$XXNumericCaseID$ = 'NumericCaseID' ARS correctly shows me a There
was a problem expanding the EXTERNAL qualification error message).

If no requests match is set to default message.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated..

Many thanks,

George

Is the set fields action before the window open building a qualification for
the report? What are your settings in the open window to report action in
the No Requests Match area? If your qualification returns no matching

'Suppress empty list', then the report window will just not open.

Try setting the No Match options to 'Show Default Message' and see if that
 gives any clues.

No, not yet - but I'm going to do that..

What I tried to do is to separate the actions from one large AL into 3
smaller ones. The funny thing is, that I ended up with an
open-window-AL (let's call it ReportInternal), for which I have a
handy def file and it works fine. However, I need a set fields action
running in front of it. I had two ideas:

 1) I tried to add it to the ReportInternal-AL = open window fails
 2) I tried to create a separate AL (called GetReportData) running with
a lower order = open window fails

Importing GetReportData-AL messes up all open window actions even in
other AL behind that form, although they are running on totally
different conditions. As soon as I delete the AL GetReportData, the
open window actions are working again..

Next, I exported both AL's as XML and copy pasted the missing set
field action in an editor and import the new XML.. Same result = open
 window fails :(

I guess that there is a relationship between the set-field and the
open window action... However, I've ran out of ideas..

I'm not sure you can prevent opening (i.e. displaying) the same Request ID
more than once without some ugly stuff - setting a flag field, which trips
the change flag, requiring the user to save a request that he/she was only
viewing, coupled with an error on display if the flag field is set.

An alternative might be to use events to close the window of an
already-displayed request.

You could build an AL with Execute On = Display, no Run If (or 'Request ID'
!= $NULL$?), If Action = Run Process PERFORM-ACTION-SEND-EVENT (ARS 6.0,
DAB, p. 710). target would probably be * (i.e. all windows managed by
the client) and event_type could be a concatenation of $SCHEMA$ and
$Request ID$ (unique to form and record).

A second AL with an earlier Execution Order, Execute On = Event, Run If =
$EVENTTYPE$ = $SCHEMA$ + 'Request ID', If Action = Close Window (possibly
preceded by a message to let the user know what's going on).

This isn't great, either. You really don't know what you're closing. The
user could have searched for multiple records and happens to be positioned
on one that was later searched for/displayed in another window. The second
display would cause the first to close. Could be irritating.

Lars,

which patch are you using? My initial guess was that it's client
related, but after testing the application on several workstations
(same behaviour on all of them) it seems like a server issue.

I unfortunately don't have access to the support website at the moment
and therefore can't verify if something is mentioned in the release
notes of the patches 13 (we're on server P13 here)..

Hi Nyall,

I didn't define the report server - my understanding was that it uses
the server I'm currently logged in if nothing is defined (I'm only
logged in into dev). I added the servername as you suggest, cleaned
the cache and restarted the client - still the same behaviour.. But a
good point, thanks for suggesting!

The report exists on the dev server too. As said, it even runs fine
partly - until it suddenly stopps for some unknown reason..

Submitter field in e-mail notifications**

I'm running 5.1.2 on Windows 2000, MS-SQL 2000
and I'm seeing inconsistent results from a notification e-mail that is sent
by a filter. The filter fires on Submit and one of the fields in the body of
the e-mail is set to Submitter. Most of the time it populates the correct
user name but I've now seen a couple e-mails go out with Demo as the
username.
When I check that ticket I see the correct
username in the status history and work log so I'm puzzled as to why it
would substitute Demo at all. The frustrating part is that I have two
e-mails sent within ten minutes of each other and one shows the correct user
name and the other shows Demo for the Submitter field.
Any clues as to why this might happen?

I also tried '$TR.Work diary$', but it doesn´t work.

Any other idea to save just the last entry (diary field)in a character

Listers,
With the user preference form, you can set the diary field to display the
most recent entry first. While this works through the forms (whether web
or client,) it doesn't work when using the odbc drivers and crystal
reports -despite using an id with the diary preference set. The first
entry is displayed rather than the last entry. Has anyone out there found
a way to retrieve only the last entry or to specify the display order of

There is, I found it, Use Subtotal, =SUBTOTAL(1;$D2:D$68)

Hi Lars,
Off the top of my head I can't think of any function that would do exactly
that,
but depending on what you are trying to achieve, you might be able to get the
results you want from a Pivot Table.
HTH
Chris.

But data from ars Is there a way, I know it is, to make a diagram based
 on the
visible rows when autofilter has been selected for some columns.
Now I have the formula Average(A2:A120), if I activate autofilter, maybe only
 22
rows are returned, so I want average to be calculated only for those 22 rows.
With my formula now the diagram is not changed as the intervall is the same,
 in what
way do I have to change the formula to only use visible rows?

I think someone has the answer.

Filter 1:

There are several ways, depending on what you are trying to accomplish.
I'm going to call the field you are interested in FieldA in my
examples.

1. If you are trying to assure that no two records have the same value
in a particular field (FieldA), create a unique index for that field. In the
Admin tool, open the form and select formform properties. On the Index
tab, move the desired field to the right column and check the "unique" box
below. Save. When the user submits a new record, it will say that entry
violates a unique ID on FieldA.

2.Add a field, FieldB,to number field to check the result
of an active link you are going to create.Create an active link that runs on
loose focus, run if - FieldA != Null.Select a set field of the field
action. Query the form name of the same form (not CURRENT SCREEN) where
$FieldA$ = 'FieldA'. Set the no match= set the field to null. Set
multiple match= Use first matching request. Set Field - FieldB=
$LASTCOUNT$. This will tell you how many already submitted records match the
current value in FieldA. You can then create an error message if FieldB not
NULL that tells the user in more detail what you want them to change.

3. Do the same thing with a filter to check on submit and block the
submit action if you like.

4. If you aren't trying to block, but rather find matches, you can do
the same as #2 except insteadof setting multiple match to Display a
List.

SELECT s.name,fieldName FROM field f , arschema s WHERE f.fieldName = 'Customerno' and s.schemaid = f.schemaid order by
s.name asc
If You
want to get all databasenames and databseid'sexisting in a form, use
this:
select fieldName, fieldId from field where
schemaId = 604 order by fieldName asc
I have built
aHelptool for this and I find it very useful when developing and searching
for errors in the application.
Much more can
be done, this is only some examples.

Sql limitation

2006-08-27 Thread lars . j . pettersson
Yes, using views are often the best, but there is a limitation of 30 char.

SELECT count (Mailbox_ID) from AR_System_Email_Mailbox_Configuration returns
ARERR [552] Failure during SQL operation to the database : ORA-00972:
identifier is too long

Is this case SELECT count (C1) from T721 works

To avoid using T721 in the code, which will be changed after a migration, get
the T nr before executing the command.

select schemaid from arschema where name = '$SCHEMA$'

Save the result, 721 in a tmp field

After that You can run select count (c1) from T$Tnr Form$ where C538170941 = 0
or whatever you want.

This will work even after a migration. (Databaseid's are not changed)

I must have misunderstood, I though you had the attachment in an att.pool and
besides a viewfield, in which you wanted to show the file instead of
doubleklick and open it, and leaving the form. We have 4 slots, and a
radiobuttonfield 1,2,3,4, if user select 3, file 3 is shown in the viewfield.
If you delete the file, how can you still show it after that?

Re: Picture in Attachment in View Field? Need a good idea...

2006-08-23 Thread lars . j . pettersson
Hmm, I thing we must be misunderstanding each other. I have a file in a folder
somewhere, I add this file to slot 1 in an attachmentspool. Save the request.
Now is the file in the db. I can now delete the file from the sourcefolder, ars
knows nothing about this. An Active link can still perform a set field action
fron the attachmentpool to the viewfield. as the data in within ars, the
sourcefolder is now irrelevant after you have saved it into the db.

You write 'I see nothing, because view field contains the text c:\pic.jpg',
?The attachmentslot contains the file, I can't see any referense from the
sourcefolder.

I tested to add an attachment, deleted the file from the sourse, and after that
it's still shown in the viewfield. As expected.

Hello,

For example I have file c:\pic.jpg. A am saving this file to attachment field.
Then I delete file from c:\pic.jpg. Attachment is still contain the picture. I
call active link, that makes set field ViewField=Attachment. I see nothing,
because view field contains the text c:\pic.jpg, but there is no file pic.jpg
on disk c:, it exist only in attachment!

After you make set field you are only copy text from attachment thing...

Capture the window id of the console in a Global field on window open2.
When one of the "go to console" buttons is clicked, senda "CloseWindow"

Macros/ASB and field 1005

2006-08-21 Thread lars . j . pettersson
Hello, anyone seen this: In regular form A is field 1005. You record a macro
and use ASB in the macro, for example enter data in some fields and on ASB you
enter 'Status' != 6.
While recording the macro seach returns entries. But, when you try to run the
macro 'No matching requests'. Delete field 1005 and everything works fine.
Databaselogging when You run the macro shows this: AND
(dbms_lob.instr(T886.C1005, '''7'' != 6'). What's that?

Macros with forms without 1005 and using ASB, no problems.

This problem is seen on out site for patches 6.3 /003, I have tries with both
p15.16 and 18, and also with ver 7. But in patch 003 it works as expected.

I have also created a brand new forms with only core fields and added 1005 -
problem with this macro - delete of 1005, works. This test was done in 6.3 p18.
I have also tried to delete field 1005, save the form and recreate it.

I have reported this to out local ars support.

Anyone else seen this?

Re: Mandatory / Required Field

2006-08-18 Thread lars . j . pettersson
You can use action Submit (= Create) and have a filter checking if the field is
null or not, this filter will not trigger when editing already created requests
(modify). You can also add a filter which don't accept the field to be set to
null if set before. Based on CTI? Filters can perform anything .. I guess You
want to make the field required if another field is XXX or check values is
another form based upon field in your mainfom, ordinary filter actions, no
problems. /L ars

Hello

I have been asked to add a new mandatory field to our ticket form.
Unfortunately I have done very little development in the past (my

I'm wondering what ramifications adding this field might have? For
example, I would like it to be mandatory for any new tickets, but if
somebody opens an existing (older) ticket, would they be forced to fill
in something to that field as well? I don't want that to happen.

Also, is there a way to make a field mandatory based on CTI?

Any help that somebody can offer me would be great. I'm relatively new

Re: Mandatory / Required Field

2006-08-18 Thread lars . j . pettersson
It's also possible to make the field required and use modify all or sql and
enter N/A for existing requests. For all new requests, create a filter on
submit for which N/A is invalid. The user have to enter a value but not N/A.
Sometimes it's better to make the field really required, depends on the
situation.

If you create a field on your form, and the Entry Mode for that field (as
defined on the Database tab of the Field Properties) is set to Required,
then any submit or modification of a record where that field value is NULL
will result in an error. The record cannot be saved until that required
field has a value.

To make a field conditionally required, create the same field, but this time
set the Entry Mode to Optional. Then you can create workflow (active links
or filters) to enforce value based on conditions that you define. For
instance, in your example, to make a field value required on a new ticket
but not an existing ticket, I'd create a filter that executes on Submit and
the Run If statement is: $YourField$ = $NULL$. Then add an If Action that
throws an Message (type Error). Your message text might say something like
A value for YourField is required in order to submit a new ticket.

Enforce based on C/T/I? Sure...same concept as above, but you modify your
Run If statement to look at particular C/T/I (and/or any other field) values
present in the ticket. But if there is any chance that you might want the
field mandatory based on numerous C/T/Is that you have, I'd do the C/T/I
checking via some type of lookup and have the filter examine the result of
that lookup in order to determine the enforcement.

HTH,

Tim Powell

hi, what could be the reason? Some users have no association to the ARTASK
icon, AR Shortcut File, command C:\Program Files\AR System\artask.exe %1
sent in email by filters. But it works for 95%, and some users have told me
that 'it works now' ...without having done anything special ..we have had the
same client this year, and the problem came at the same time as we migrated to
a new version of the application. But, it's not a generall problem ...related
to the pc rather than to ars I guess.
