Re: ARS only accepts invalid Mid Tier Administrator password (SW00448273)

2013-03-12 Thread Steve Kallestad
I just tried it in a sandbox 7.6.4 SP4 environment and it worked without a
problem.

I haven't run into this myself.

 Howdy,

Just curious if anyone else has encountered this. BMC has logged it as a
defect (SW00448273); apparently there was a similar defect in 7.6.04 (
 SW00431968).

I tried to change Mid-Tier Administrator Password in AR System Server
Information. It would not accept any string longer than 1 character (in
other words, it would only accept an invalid password). It did allow me
to save this 1-character password. I then went into the Mid-Tier
Configuration settings, to update the Admin Password under AR Server
Settings. It, too, accepted the 1-character password, and Mid Tier does
 continue to work.

This was running ARS 8.0, patch 1, which I upgraded to patch 2 as per
Support's instructions. This didn't resolve the problem, though (and
curiously, it still says patch 001, but with the date of patch 002's
release -- I was told that it's supposed to read this way).

I also found that I was able to successfully change the password via the
(deprecated) AR User 7.1 thick client, so this issue would appear to be
 related to Mid Tier.

 Current config:
 ARS/Mid Tier 8.0.00 Build 001 201211030845
 Apache Tomcat/7.0.30
 Windows Server 2008 R2
 Java 1.7.0_15
 Oracle 11.2

Tried this on another server with the same configuration and it had the
 same results.

 Thanks,

 I'm Joe Castleman

I can't recall it failing on me either. But thanks for sharing this. Gives
us another feature to cross test after resetting passwords.

I should have clarified that when I successfully changed the password via the
7.1 Aruser client, I meant that I successfully changed it to a *valid* password
(which Mid Tier will not let me do -- I can only type one character in that
field).

Faced similar issue on 8.1 but not really something like 1 character
however I'll try changing password on our server where we still have 8.0.1
installed and see whether I face similar issue.. as far as 8.1 is
concerned, simply changing password on Server information form does not
work!! And I used the config file to rectify the issue...More to come on
this!
