Re: Has anyone used ClearCase SCM tool with Remedy

2009-04-14 Thread Carey Matthew Black
Adrian,

I used (or rather tried to use) it with ARS v5.x.

I went as far as getting a conference call with a Clear Case second
level engineer and a second level Remedy (at the time) engineer to try
to figure out what was going on. At the end of the calls (it took
three, one hour meetings, if memory serves) it was determined that the
way Clear Case implemented the Microsoft Source Control API was very,
very lacking in functionality. (and maybe even compliant with the spec
too! ) We also determined that the way Remedy's Admin Tool was
exporting files was not helping matters any at all. (Mostly due to
name space collisions between types of objects and where/how the files
were named after export.)

Long story short... it was such a pain that it was a very negative
experience with both products.

FWIW:
I hear some very good things about features that are now available
in ARS v7.5. (And more to come in future versions too.)

If v7.5 is to far off in the the future for you, then I would suggest
you look at using the ARS API to get the job done. (A custom
integration should be very possible.)

I have, and it wasn't pretty..I don't remember all of the details because
the human brain tends to block traumatic events, thankfully. The parts I do
remember are that it slowed our development to a crawl because of all of the
check in, check out. It quite often didn't have the proper 'who checked
this out' listed, merging of branch data in CC was horrific, the constant
need to sync my local view with the server to ensure I knew about proper
checkouts and checkins was a ROYAL pain...and that's just the stuff I can
remember. We ended up writing our own integration that doesn't involve the
admin tool.

Re: Anyone integrating ClearCase with AR 7.0.1?

2007-09-19 Thread Joe D'Souza
Brian,

I am not sure I noticed any performance hit after the integration. The
integration compares the definition files when exported and imported to
ClearCase so I'm not sure there should be any impact on performance. I
didn't notice any significant impact at least..

Cannot get the def of the Object named If I cancel
this error to go on to next object then it gives same error again.

I am trying to integrate ClearCase with remedy. Followed the
instructions done whatever was mentioned in the setup pages from the Adv
guide. The issue is that the Source Control menu options are still
disabled. I can see an extra column in the admin which says "Not in SC"
but I cannot import it in ClearCase as that option is still disabled and
other SC options. I have done all the changes in server information too.
checked the ar.conf file and all the changes are there.

Any suggestions...?

If it is installed on Windows you could use the 8.x DOS file format... That

Re: ClearCase

2007-01-09 Thread Nicoll, Alan
Let me second that opinion; we have had Remedy and ClearCase integrated for
7 years now with few problems. Clearcase checks with Remedy on every bug
checkin to ensure that the AR has been authorized for that release.
Clearcase code creates verification records for each release hooked to the
AR and then I have an 'AR System - Test Status' join form that shows the
results of each AR verification for each release.
