Hide fields from some users

2011-05-31 Thread Michael Burton

Hi,

I've been given a spread sheet of Software CI's to import in to our system and
one of the columns contains licence keys. We do not want everybody to be able
to see these, so, if for example I only want a purchasing and internal support
group to have access to this field, how could I restrict that? I'm thinking
that I'll have to do it using Assignee Group and maybe create a new group
called Licence Management (or something similiar)

Am I barking up the wrong tree?

Thoughts?

Thanks

No. You’re bang on. That’s how you would need to proceed.

Re: Hide fields from some users

2011-05-31 Thread Mueller, Doug
Mike,

Actually, it is easier than you are describing.

You don't need to worry about the Assignee Group at all. That group is related
to row level security where
you want to restrict access to ROWS.

All you need to do is create a group for the permission you want. Maybe that
group is called something
like License Management.

Then, you change the permissions on the field(s) of interested to NOT allow
Public access, but allow only
this one group access.

This would mean that this COLUMN is available only to users who are members of
that group.

NOTE: There is an Allow Any User to Submit option within permissions. If you
want to allow other users
to see the field so they can SUBMIT new entries with this data but then not be
able to see the contents after
submit, you can select this box. If you don't want users to even know of the
existance of the field, make
sure that this option is NOT turned on and they will not see the field at all.

I hope this helps,

Doug Mueller
