Re: BMC Developer Studio Annoyance

Shawn:

Granted, I used to work at BMC and therefore had a lot of exposure with the
Developer Studio, I've gained a few tricks here and there.

On your Working List window there are three icons on the top right corner of
the window, depends on where you put your window, and to the left of the
local minimize and maximize buttons. The three buttons are: Single List, View
By Type, and View By Form. Obviously, you want View by Type. The Working
lists window should separate all workflow based on type.

Even as a developer at BMC it took me a long time to figure out this feature.
You would have thought they would have given us a tutorial instead of letting
us figure things out on our own. Nonetheless, I do agree, DevStudio is
definitely a better improvement over the old Admin tool, even though at times I
do miss the Admin tool

Hope this helps.

Shawn,
Hope you don't mind if I add a couple of my own. The Show Relationships
feature is a handy feature but the list of related workflow displayed doesn't
list execution order. The relationships list is also missing a column to
indicated if the workflow is enabled/disabled. To be able to sort the
relationships list by execution order would be very helpful.

I've been using developer studio for a year or so now and believe it was a
great improvement over the old administrator tool.

annoyance for me that I haven't found a good way around yet.

I like to use Working Lists. I think it's great and they give me an
opportunity to set aside logical groups of things that work together without
building it as an Application in Remedy. However, the results list within a
Working List is almost useless to a developer.

While I'm working on something and testing out different Active Links or
Filters, I would like a way to see what is Enabled and what is Disabled. For
example, if I were to go to All Objects and select Active Links, I would
see these columns in the results list: Name, Enabled, Primary Form, Order,
Execute On, Shared, Modified.

If I open a Working List I only see these columns in the results list: Name,
Object Type, Modified.

How can I get the results list to look the same on Working Lists as it does for
the All Objects results list? I haven't found any specific Working List
options in the preferences where I can change this. Even if it's not something
I can configure through the tool, does anyone know of any configuration file
settings I could modify to get this?

Thanks,

Shawn Pierson
Hi Shawn,
I too like the idea of working lists, especially when I am building a new
custom application or modifying an existing one. There is hope for you! The
standard way that working lists are presented is to view items by Form. This
gives you the columns you are referring to. If, however, you change to view by
type (see little icons on the top right of the working group window) then all
the columns are displayed.
Hope this helps,
Ian

2010-08-19 Thread Rod Harris
Hi Russ,

I'd like to second that request. I love the show relationships
feature and use it all the time for quckly locating the code I need to
modify or copy. It's great to be able to sort by the type of
relationship but it would often be a lot better to sort by execution
order. Its a pain to have to open each workflow item just to check its
execution order. The disabled/enabled flag would also be very handy.

I hope this feature is on the list for 7.6.
