Re: what is the purpose of RUN Macro option

2009-10-12 Thread Joe DeSouza
It used to be sort of extensively used in the earlier days for things like
passing values from one form to another before actions like open window with
modes like display, search were not available.

With a lot more available actions, the scope of Run Macro has become a little
more limted in post ARS 5 versions. It still is however useful in some
situations for replicating sequential keystrokes as a single action.

Like Sandeep pointed out however, this action is not available on the web so if
defined in your worklfow, your workflow 'will work' without throwing an error
or an exception, but you will notice that the web client failed to perfom it.
It will just attempt to perfom the next action in queue by skipping the macro
action. If your next action is dependent on the results of your macro action,
your workflow will fail..

Hi Kiran,

You can use the Run Macro action to specify a macro to run whenever the active
link is executed in BMC Remedy User. (The Run Macro active link action is not
available for the web client.) The macro can perform any operation or series of
operations. If the macro contains parameters, you can specify values for those
parameters, including a value from a field in the current request.

We do this in our environment to automate some reporting for our
users. We have a bat file that calls runmacro.exe and the desired arq
file. Then we call an excel macro to format the data.

Run Macro

2006-09-14 Thread Addis Solomon

Hi everybody,I am opening an active link and there is a Run Macro action in it. I am not familiar with Run Macro action and all I see is the name of the macro and Parameter Name which is "%" and Value which is $SERVER$. I want to see what is in the macro so I can make modifications. How can I see what is in the macro? Also is it possible for me to see macros created by other developers or admins? I greatly will appreciate your help!!

Addis

With the al open. Click on save to disk.

Then open with any text editor.

If you want to manually edit the macro.

Go up to the developers section on remedy
and get the macro editor.

It is pretty useful

Re: Run Macro

2006-09-14 Thread Mike White
You can use Save To Disk to save a copy to your hard drive, then use an
editor to open it (e.g. Notepad). If you update it, you'll need to
re-attach it to your Active Link (select using Macro Name pull-down;
Modify Action, etc.).

You can see macros created by others, but you need to know where they are.
If they're executed via Active Link Run Macro actions, like the one you
described, the above method works fine. Users can create their own macros,
though, and store them in any directory they have permission and access to.
(.arq files).

Macros aren't easily translated. Search criteria is pretty
straightforward, but more complex macros can be difficult to follow. They
really weren't made for editing, more for re-recording (although you need
to understand what it did in the first place).

Before you spend too much effort, you may want to consider moving the
function(s) to Active Link or Filter actions. Much easier to manage. You
didn't specify what ARS release you're running, but if it's ARS 6.0 or
later, there isn't much you need macros for.
