Re: Senior Remedy Developer Wanted (San Diego, Ca)
It is a nice campus. I was there once after a nasty two day rain storm and flooding in Houston. High winds blew one of those heavy glass doors off it's hinges and smashed it on the concrete. Between the flooding and the wind it was a trip with lots of memories. Caught up with that storm again in Atlanta on the way home and it caught up with me the next day here in Harrisburg. I think it's the low elevation. It makes it easier for them to fly around. Same goes for the birds in TX. The Houston campus is nice. I enjoyed my time there. Except for Sashimi and Sushi.. I would agree with that.. I happen to love raw Japanese stuff to death and found just a couple of good Japanese places out there while I was there.. Ones next to the Marriott that I lived at if I didn’t care to drive as it was in the strip mall adjoining the hotel and the other was a drive away near the Galleria.. I did however find a number of places that had decent raw oysters for appetizers.. OT: Senior Remedy Developer Wanted (San Diego, Ca)
Joe, There are some really good places to get sashimi. Near BMC's Houston office there is a small Japanese grocery store that I occasionally go to called Nippon Daido that sells sashimi. I usually get that to take home rather than going to a restaurant, but we have some excellent sushi places (and a whole lot that are less than excellent.) The problem I've found in Houston, restaurant-wise is that there are so many options that it takes a while to weed through the bad stuff if you are just randomly picking places. I don't want to cause a bigger discussion about restaurants rather than Remedy, but if anyone is going to travel to Houston and wants some suggestions feel free to email me. Near BMC’s Houston office there is a small Japanese grocery store that I occasionally go to called Nippon Daido that sells sashimi. I usually get that to take home rather than going to a restaurant, but we have some excellent sushi places (and a whole lot that are less than excellent.) The problem I’ve found in Houston, restaurant-wise is that there are so many options that it takes a while to weed through the bad stuff if you are just randomly picking places. I don’t want to cause a bigger discussion about restaurants rather than Remedy, but if anyone is going to travel to Houston and wants some suggestions feel free to email me. Re: OT: Senior Remedy Developer Wanted (San Diego, Ca)
I remember once spending over an hour driving down Westheimer trying to find anything that looked decent and the only two places I found that seemed good from the ‘looks’ was RA Sushi (which I think is a chain as I recall dining in a restaurant by the same name that had the same sign in Chicago) and another called Mikso or something like that, that had 2 branches, one on Westheimer, and the other past highway 610 just off Westheimer.. I haven’t ventured near the BMC office buildings as I didn’t find anything there from a google search.. Next time when in that area, I’ll remember to email you.. I do agree though that for a place that is not quite a big city, it has tons of good places to dine at.. OT: Senior Remedy Developer Wanted (San Diego, Ca)
I know! My colleagues at work were showing me that as I am almost a die hard sushi person – sometimes I end up doing it about 4 days in a week – and I’m talking just lunch here.. I tend to stay away from sushi or rolls that have any mayo or that spicy stuff in it as I prefer just the plain fish (sashimi) and sometimes a naked roll or naked sushi with no dressing.. I think with spicy tuna (or salmon for that matter) many restaurants tend to use fish that has aged a couple of hours, so its not entirely fresh. So its not surprising.. I'd imagine the risk would be lower with fresh sashimi so long as the boards and knives were washed as required before its cut..
