Re: [AsburyPark] Re: Tommy D. strikes again
>From the fine folks at Wilkipedia Carpetbagger - It was originally a derogatory term, suggesting an exploiter who does not plan to stay. Although the term is still an insult in common usage, in histories and reference works it is now used without derogatory intent. Since 1900 the term has also been used to describe outsiders attempting to gain political office or economic advantage, especially in areas (thematically or geographically) to which they previously had no connection. - Original Message - From: Gary Wien Date: Friday, May 25, 2007 8:40 pm Subject: Re: [AsburyPark] Re: Tommy D. strikes again To: AsburyPark@yahoogroups.com > That's the biggest problem in Asbury. [AsburyPark] Pallone's letters in The Coaster
Any thumps up or down for the two Pallone letters on behalf of Local Union 400 I.B.E.W. The union published both letters as full page ads in this week's Coaster. The first letter concerns the issue of prevailing wages at Long Branch and Asbury Park redevelopment projects; the second alludes to reports that undocumented immigrants are employed at some of those sites and requests an inquiry from Immigration and Customs Enforcement. ** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.

That's the biggest problem in Asbury. Practically every building that could have been restored was sold to the one company that could care less about restoration. Re: [AsburyPark] Re: Boardwalk area improvements
"Actually, no...but i'll wait and see what happens next. Seems like there's lot's of work going on." Haha, all right. That's true, once things calm down the overall picture will be more clear. I see their doing some more road paving too. I wonder if thats the final coat? It looks like it might be, going by the height to the sidewalk ramps. It seems kind of lumpy tho, not sure. I thought somewhere along the line there was going to be paver cross walks in the road? Maybe that was just in the picture, but never ment to be a reality? - Yahoo! oneSearch: Finally, mobile search that gives answers, not web links.

Not sure if agree with that. If the inside is as trashed as the outside, then it's a lost cause. But does anybody really know the condition of the interior? [AsburyPark] Tommy D. strikes again
Did anybody see the Tommy D. story in the TCN about destroying the Charms building? He's back to calling preservationists "Nostalgia Nazis" again, and i'm not quite sure if he even made a clear point as to why he wants that building gone. I'll agree that the Charms building has been a vacant eyesore for a very long time now. Personally, i'd love to see that building restored. It's look compliments Cookman. I wish there was a way people could see what's inside there to get an idea of the potential of the building. Yahoo! [AsburyPark] Boardwalk area improvements
The new islands near Ocean Ave. are looking pretty good now that the lights are installed and some landscaping has been added. The new entrance to The Paramount is looking great too, and I think it's a big improvement over the original. It was also really nice to see HoJo's back in business last night. This may not be the Asbury many of us know and love, but at least progress is finally being made. Yahoo!
