We then went to the Neptune Police Department to see if they could

we want her home! We don't want to falsely accuse anyone, but need to

and post more flyers around it tomorrow and Friday. We might do a
stake out -- the dog has to pee!

If anybody can help us by driving by this house at any point in the
next couple of days, we would be so grateful. Again we don't know for
sure if this is her, or if there is a dog in that house at all, as we
 haven't seen her first hand.

Mario,
No disrespect, but a picture, does not replace reality. There are red
yield signs, on Rt. 33 West, making the dominant, county road, the
yielder, instead of the inner circle, stopping, than proceeding with
caution, traffic permitting. The flow west stops, causing a back up
to Wyckoff Rd., where the traffic signal is. Imagine, approaching the
Collingswood Cirle/roundabout, or whatever the latest trend, is. On
the opposite eastbound lane, same thing! There's more traffic, going
west and east than north and south, clogging up a main artery, which
was tricky before this latest *uckup, if you pardon, the gutter
language, but to a driver, it's scary as hell! You don't want to be
rear-ended for YIELDING, nor do you want a left sided fender-bender,
for the inside lane car, having the right of way! Either way, no
matter which way you enter this roundabout mess, guaranteed to make
a professinal driver wince, going around, will either end in a whew
or an aw-shit, that was close, situation, if you manage to dodge the
proverbial bullet!

It has always been the rule, that you yield to the left. The trouble
is that most people don't understand that, nor do they really
understand what yield means...you judge the pace of the traffic and
proceed in matching that pace. Instead, people stop dead in a panic.
One favorite example is the exit 88 Parkway Northbound entrance...holy
hell that one is hairy and it's a simple merge that people can't
negotiate.

If people were competent drivers, circles would be a wonderful thing.

The reality is, most people can't drive, they just aren't competent.
Jughandles are a great invention, they don't allow people to do stupid
things as easily. They can be annoying, but they serve the lowest
common denominator very nicely.

One thing I wish is that NJ would just have a standard and apply it
uniformly. Now you have jughandles in some places, circles in others
and fully signal controlled 'normal' intersections with turn lanes and
direction signals. It's bad enough being a 'local' to these
variations, people from out of the area have no hope.

I've quit riding my motorcycle here, I've given up. The average
driver is just so incompetent that it's not worth the risk to me.

All-too-common misapplications of Merge, Yield, and Stop

Similarly at the western-most exit from Sea View Square Mall onto Asbury
Avenue. Yes, a stop sign, but for the access lane which is separated with a
solid line; not all lanes need to be clear.
If people were competent drivers, circles would be a wonderful thing. The

Worst are those driving, but preoccupied with jabbering on their cell

But I don't see it as just a Jersey thing.

Re: [AsburyPark] Re: A Shift, but for Some Drivers, a Vicious Circle - New Yo...

2007-11-25 Thread Chris
More recent fun has been to take the yield/merge lanes at
intersections that have been yields for years and stick a stop sign in
them. Intersection at Sears and Route 35 in Middletown is an example,
the right onto Kings Highway from Rt 35 South is now a stop instead of
a yield.

It's happening a lot with the jughandles too, many that were a yield
at the outflow are now a stop sign.

Trouble is, many of them are angled so severely that once you stop,
it's really difficult to actually look back to the left and see if
anyone is now coming.

39:4-90. Right of way at intersections:

The driver of a vehicle approaching an intersection shall yield the
right of way to a vehicle which has entered the intersection. When 2
vehicles enter an intersection at the same time the driver of the
vehicle on the left shall yield the right of way to the driver of the
vehicle on the right.

That's at an intersection (90 degrees). Chris is talking about
yielding entering a circle or merging with a road. I always thought
that vehicle in the circle had the right of way. That seems not to be
the case in NJ.

Circle Intersections
There are not set rules for driving into, around and out of a traffic circle
in New Jersey. Common sense and caution must prevail at
all times.
In most cases, the circle’s historically established traffic pattern
dictates which driver has the right of way. If a major highway flows
into and through the circle, traffic from that highway usually dominates the
traffic flow pattern by commanding the right of way. Traffic
control signs, such as stop or yield signs, at the entrance to the circle
also govern which driver has the right of way.

Never enter a traffic circle without first checking all signs and
determining the intentions of motorists already in the traffic circle.
If a motorist is in doubt concerning which vehicle has the right of way,
exercise extreme caution and remember the basic rule governing
uncontrolled intersections: The vehicle to the left shall yield the right of
way to a vehicle approaching from the right.

My motto - He who hesitates is lost. Floor it.

I like that better.

[AsburyPark] Snynaxis Opening Monday

2007-11-25 Thread Dr.Geena
This Monday is the grand opening of Snyaxis formerly Red Fusion.
They are a Mediterranean /Greek restaurant serving a very authentic fare.
I had the pleasure of being a part of the private opening on Saturday and I was
very pleased with the menu items that I tasted and the staff and management in
general.
Try it out and see if it is for you. They take reservation but you can also
walk-in.
I think the owner told me they will be closed on Tuesdays.
