Shame on me, huh, Jack? Yep... 10 years (9 according to the neighbor) that lot
next to The Empress was a mess. I have no clue whether it was my own following
up which gt it cleaned out or whether it was an amazing coincidence, I am not
sure that either you nor Brian even have a coincidence. Have either of you
TRIED to make change in Asbury Park? I hear a hint here and a hint there...
Seeing as I do not live there, I quite possibly am not privy to these attempts
of change.

Yep, it will probably be a parking lot as historically, it always has been.

Jack, if you think that I come to AP and don't think that I see the same things
that you see, you are wrong. Yes, I do not live there. I was an annoying
advocate of change with that Empress lot and none of us will ever know if I had
anything to to with the cleanup, but it's clean.

I do know one thing, logging into this group and bitching and complaining to
cyberspace accomplishes absolutely nothing. You can point your finger at me
and berate me for calling someone out, but I DID SOMETHING, I ACTED.

I'm probably on the City's list of assholes, but please inform me of my list
mates, who else has acted?

Honestly, I am losing interest in AP, sad that.

Glenn,
It's great that the Empress lot got cleaned up, but are you aware of what they
did with it? They just moved it a few blocks away and made it somebody else's
eyesore. Sure, it's a solution, but it seemed hasty and not so well thought out.
We all have our causes here. Years ago, mine was exactly the same thing, clean
up that lot and the many others, and I went to many a council meeting.
Earlier this year, I helped lead a group to try and shut down an attempt to
remove live music from Cookman and the surrounding area, and we succeeded in
preserving that, and we lent support to bringing the Upstage back.
Coincidentally, at one of those meetings, Loffredo made the absurd suggestion
to move the Empress lot across the street. Audible laughter rang out across the
room.
And what about the bigger picture?
It's now another empty lot, but has there been any mention of a plan on what to
do with it?
My gut feeling is they'll take the easy way out and make a parking lot. Can
something better be done? Absolutely, but where's the plan?

I'm not going to sit her and give you a list of my accomplishments in
fighting the city for change. Have I acted? Damn Straight..Is there more
I can do? Probably, actually definitely, but i have learned, from both
personal experience, and from the experience of others, that i need to pick
and choose my battles very very carefully.

Have YOU personally ever dealt with getting building permits for your home
in AP? Or had the inspectors come into your home in AP? (no you havent)
These are just two small reasons why i pick and choose very carefully what i
want to voice my opinions about at the Council Meetings (in which i attend
regularly)

Though most of what i've done to help with change does NOT involve the
redevelopment of the Waterfront, i did take my happy ass out ON FOOT to the
Southwest Section of the city, (as well as the Northwest side) with a
clipboard and a petition to help STOP CHANGE, and that change was the
removal of our trees downtown, it was a lost cause but i still put in the
time to walk around some unsafe streets (sans my dog), to obtain a few
hundred signatures. While doing this, i opened MANY residents eyes to
events/situations taking place within the city government that they were
previously unaware of.

I've also helped two HS Students from making the horrible decision of
slinging dope on the corners for one of the local sects. Now i'm not taking
100% of the credit for this, but i did help with their school work, take
them places, write letters to colleges for them etc etc. One is currently
attending Montclair State and the other is hopefully heading to Wagner this
year, so i changed (or helped change) the direction of our cities youth,
albeit 1 at a time.

This past summer i also brought Elements skateboard company into the city to
film one of their videos. Granted only 12 minutes of footage made it into
the final video, but there is still that Asbury Park, NJ at the bottom of
the video, so add some free promotion for the city as well

I've bought property in the city, i pay my taxes, and i'm currently working
on bringing a MUCH needed business into the city this Janaury (again this is
where the permits and inspectors also become an an issue) so i'd appreciate
in the future, before you step on your soapbox again accusing me of doing
nothing, ASK FIRST

oh and thanks for having that shit removed from behind the Empress, but now
my Aunt sees it everyday from her apartment, could you possibly get it
removed from there and actually have it put to use? Or is moving an eyesore
from one lot to another ok because you dont frequent that end of Kingsley?

Now before i got back to work, in regards to the city council, the city (and
Maureen please correct me here because i may be off a bit) is run under
Municipality Manager Law, i think this was instilled as a law in the late
1800's in NJ. Anyhow, under this law, the council has very little power,
typically they have ZERO Executive responsibility, they generally sit over
council meetings and thats it. They make NO EXECUTIVE decisions when it
comes to the town or city, this is why there is a City Manager in these
types of municipalities.

Cordially

he deserves to be branded whatever he earned.

Since jack and I nearing aarp membership, we can probably recalling being
REQUIRED to sign up for a possible draft around 1979. I reluctantly went with
my buds - and said something stupid - like if you go, I'm with you...

Well good thing we never HAD to go (or make the decision to go if selected). I
had my father's french tapes out and was trying to learn french. Would I freeze
in canada or find some nice warm island and open up my hamburger there instead
of AP???

Today, I tell my son and have told him what my dad told me - you have to read,
be smart - you DON'T want to be on the front line.

To you want to be some number on the news (maybe if they even bother)??

I've watched a few kids who have hung around my daughter and now son - get
recruited. One kid joined the navy to become a helicopter mechanic - he
succeeded. he thought the navy -on a boat being the same nut he was here.
Well, he got all his training in the desert - where he still is.

I would never knock anyone that served. Better yet, kiss their ass.

While I'm going on, I met a very nice group of people in AP over the past 2
weeks. The Tabernacle Church 1325 Asbury Ave. Little place, with a ton of
spirit.

I'm tryiong to figure out how to help them. While they are looking to move into
larger quarters - they will need additional $. They offer a kitchen, food
pantry and other services to help those less fortunate. They want to help
people get jobs, training and more.

So sure you going to say. Hoe many of these are needed in AP?

I don't know. But I do know is that as I sat amongst boxes of food talking and
thinking what's wrong in the world??

As I opened the door, I looked at what I was driving. Then realied my kids are
off on a vacation. The sign on the door stated something like you must show
the need... you cannot sell what you receive...

The next day - I swung by my house for lunch which I rarely do and to get my
pc...whihc I forgot. Then I decided I'd go get a slice of pizza..then I turned
back around and went back to my house and figured why waste money...while I was
getting my lunch ready, I heard water running - real fast. I realized - the
sprinklers never got shut off. Sure enough, my basement was filling up with
water.

So I guess If I hadn't thought about helping that church on asbury ave, my
house would of floated away. Now I have to act.

Don't forget. these people aren't oprah or buffet grandstanding. To me, they
have all the heart and will to help.

Asbury Park is far far perfect - if such a place exists.

Real scary place. But those living there, love it (or so they say).

Dear Friends and Family,

I cannot believe how fast time is flying, or how cold is actually is today.
Asbury Park is going through a big transformation. We have had a large number
of businesses close up. On the surface it is rather disheartening, that
business could not hold on through the holidays. On the up side, the 500 block
is going through major renovation, the streets and sidewalks have been re-done.
Hopefully we will get street lighting and signage to better help the
navigation of downtown.

There is a big music initiative in town that should bring many new potential
customers to town. I am looking forward to the continued developments. Be sure
to check out the cities website for more information. www.cityofasburypark.com.

During this difficult economic time is up to us to support the local businesses
as much as we can, pass on the information to our friends who have not had the
Asbury Park experience. We have a new chamber of commerce board and hopefully
they will be able to bring some fresh ideas to help promote what is an amazing
city.

As for Plan B We are going to be open CHRISTMAS EVE and CHRISTMAS DAY.
(Christmas day we will open at 3pmand I will be doing the cooking)

New Year's Eve is around the corner and we will be having a 5 course dinner,
Live Music, Champagne Toast for 75.00. Reservations from 6:30-10:30pm. NO
SEATINGS COME WHEN YOU WANT.

As always our PRIX FIXE Tuesday-Thursday 25.00 for a 4 course dinner.
Thursday's Dinner and a Movie with The Showroom. And don't forget BRUNCH
SUNDAYS. Our menu offers great VEGAN and GLUTEN FREE options.
