I took the question to mean how much did Asbury Park City make from
the event. As I said, just beach badge sales.

All you mention went to the State in taxes and to the businesses.
Unless you are saying the City imposes a tax ?

How about UEZ sales tax collected.

That counts.

The reduced sales tax due to being a UEZ community does not go to the
City, it goes to Trenton just like regular sales tax. The funds are
then redistributed to the UEZ programs. The City does not get the money.

None of the responses, so far, to the wonder mentioned above seems totally
satisfactory in the context of what I remember from RoadTrip's inception
several years ago.

RoadTrip was meant to introduce (or reintroduce) and generate interest in
Asbury Park as a diverse GL friendly community not only to visit but also to
consider for home ownership or renting here -- especially after a spate of
newspaper articles which first appeared in the early 00's and continue today.

I do not speak for the organizers, so maybe one of them can correct what I
remember of Dane and others' intentions going back several years.

strong counter to a triCity News letter written a few weeks ago by Gabrielle

fascism-lite reference in that letter was out of line and distracted from
any
credibility it might have had.)

Each year, more and more of my outer Monmouth friends buy into the promise
this city holds for many of us here. The drinkers in the my crowd weren't
able to spend as they would have liked at MM's Beach Bar because of the novice
servers; but that was their only complaint.

Cheers!

Getting technical on me.

The CITY and and Citizens and visitors are the direct beneficary of
the UEZ.

Skip the technicalities. If no one showed up to spend in a UEZ zone,
it would be that much harder for the city to get funds back - to fund
new business owners, marketing, police cars, patrols, special programs
etc.

All those things would have to be funded by either the proeprty owner,
business or the city's regular taxes to the general public - like
property owners.

The CITY and property owners are a DIRECT beneficiary of the UEZ.

Whether or not the overall intent of the UEZ has worked 100% is
another issue.

Look when you see a police car drive (or trot) by. Funded by the UEZ

Wouldn't you rather see that

That's why Cookman needs an Apple store. Generate tons of revenue -
any high volume store. Small sales = small returns to the UEZ = small
returns TO THE CITY.

Enjoy the day.

I'm always 'technical', would you prefer nebulous.

The question was 'how much REVENUE did the CITY receive?'

Lets talk about direct measurable $$$, not secondary, tertiary and
indirect economic benefits of which there are many.

Direct Revenue to the CITY? - I have beach Badge fees.

What have you got?

You could see what was going on sitting right on the beach. I didn;t
realize that the Beach Bar bathrooms were off limits that day to non
Road Trippers. I just hobbled up there on my two canes and used the
facilities with the rest of the boys. I was tempted to take a goodie
bag on my way out. No one asked any questions and I didn't ask any.

Directly:

- Since there was no charge for parking, nothing there.
- Beach Badge sales were certainly in the City's favor.

No Hotel Tax that I'm aware of, so nothing there.

Nothing else I can think of - Anyone ??

Here is what I can share:

-Sales tax at The Empress was $19.53 per night.
-Occupancy tax at The Empress was $13.95 per night.
The Empress sold all 101 rooms.

The promoters say that 3000 tickets were sold for Sand Blast on
Saturday. Even if 1/2 of those people bought Beach Badges at $5 per,
that would be $7,500

- No tax was charged for admission to Sand Blast, $10 of each ticket
was donated to the Human Rights Campaign.

- A $10 recommended donation was collected to those who chose to give
it at the Kick off Party on Friday night, I believe that the
donations went to the Asbury Park Marketing Committee.

The businesses on Cookman Ave. seemed busy, I am sure money was made
there. I wonder how many ices were sold? How many drinks were
purchased (LOTS).

The Host Hotel was The Berkeley, I assume there were similar taxes
collected there.

I may have missed this, but was there ever a reason given for lopping
off the Carteret? It's sonically akin to chopping off the Chateau from

I'd guess an image upgrade. Over the years, the name fell on hard times and
mismanagement. Maybe some point in the future, it will come back.

Like Asbury (less the park) many people refer to the Berk as The Berkeley
